I'm looking for a Sense themed keyboard .apk to sideload into my Nook. I really don't like the stock keyboard anymore with the Nook and I had a custom keyboard on my old HTC Hero a while back. Anyone know of one or anyone use another keyboard that they can recommend to me? I looked around but didn't see anything on the forums. Thanks in advance.
I am using thumb keyboard on my nook. It splits the keys so you can use your thumbs to type, like you are on a phone. I find it a lot more comfortable and easier to use than the regular boards, plus to can resize it just about how ever you would like.

Thanks. I'll look into it.
SwiftKey 3 Tablet Keyboard is also another really nice keyboard (albeit costing a few $). Of course I don't endorse or personally suggest pirating the app by downloading the APK from a file hosting site but hey, anything's possible on the Internet Anyways, that is one I suggest. Also, if you develop a like for Swype, there are plenty of files floating around for that too.

Flex T9 keyboard free on Amazon. Combines swype and the gingerbread keyboard. I like it, what do you guys think.
Now if we can get someone to make a dark theme for it we will be set.

Thanks for the heads up, giving it a try now, this is the first thing I will have typed with it. Definitely less typos than with Swype thus far. haha, it even has gratifi. Nice.

I'm a big Swype guy, but I'm surprisingly happy with this.
I used it for awhile. It is nicer than swype, but I'm to use to swype

Ha, been using this keyboard all day. I like! Don't know why I like it cause I hate swype. Been a Smart keyboard Pro user for months.
I like it. It seems to work well. I just wish it did a auto space after punctuation.

I did find that it will automatically put a . if you double space. But that doesn't help with questions.
Definitly like better than swype. I just could not get used to sliding and need to lift my thumbs. This is a great keyboard.

whats with the warning that 'this app collects all input including passwords and credit card numbers"
i've never installed an optional keyboard before..is this a normal warning or should i be worried all my keypresses are being offloaded like CIQ

It just stores all combinations on key presses. It doesn't store out anywhere except your phone.

I actually really like this keyboard. It's way more accurate than swype for me. I'm gonna keep it I think.

lol i could spend all day explaining the joke of a keyboard this is.
spend some time with it for awhile and u will see what i mean.
i rotate between swiftkey and a swype-like awesome keyboard with a prediction list that shows up while u slide ur finger around, its no longer on the market but its called shape writer. its available for download around the internet.
I like it a lot better than swype, which I use for portrait. It seems to be more accurate, and the word choice options are easier to use and less obtrusive.
For landscape, I normally use swiftkey, and I think swiftkey is much better for me. Swiftkey does a better job with correction, capitalization, and punctuation, has the option for space key to accept the main word choice, adds spaces correctly, and shows more of your typing at the top to allow for easier editing.
So, I think I'll program keyboard manager to use this for portrait and swiftkey for landscape.
Why are you guys comparing these virtual keyboards when we have a physical keyboard that's now working 100% with no key skips thanks to mkasick? Am I missing something? For quick texts, I sometimes use Swype myself but I use the physical keyboard for just about everything else and since the fix, it's been terrific.
Hi guys, great forum with some great tips.
Just got my xperia play and love it to bits.
Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but I find the keyboard very inaccurate and slow to respond.
When I compare it to my previous Iphone and HTC desire it seems poor.
Any suggestions for tweeking or any options for downloading another keyboard.
Thanks in advance
Chris
Swype
Takes a bit of getting used to swyping but you can also just use it normally to type and its much more accurate than the stock keyboard
im having the same issues , i tried gingerbread keyboard lite which was much more accurate but i was a constant running process in the backgroung using around 30mb , i wish there was a way to edit the stock xperia play keyboard i.e button size height and load a custom user dictionary, yes there are other keyboards like smart, better or swype but really sony should update / fix the stock one.
anyone know if once youve installed a 3rd party keyboard can you safely remove the stock one if rooted and not encounter any problems ?.......
SwiftKey is better to use then the stock keyboard. It just takes a bit of time to get use to.

How's the consensus on HTC_IME keyboard?
I remember it was all the rage when the X10 was released but I haven't been annoyed with the stock keyboard (yet) to give it a try.

I personally hate the htc keyboard..I always used alternate keyboards when I had my HTC.
I use swiftkey, while a tad too busy for my taste, it works damn well once you set it up to your liking. The arrow keys make me not miss my trackpad, and the numberpad-style number page is awesome.
I started using one of the Iphone keyboards.
Find it much better though still not as good as my Iphone.
I just paid for number pad a t9 keyboard its fantastic

yesss... swype is the best.. just installed it yesterday. very accurate and its free..
Please make sure you post why you use it and what you think about it.
I've been using swift key for two months and it is extremely accurate and fast. Two says ago i've switched to Swype and now i'm addicted to typing in this forum.
Swype is really fun to use and also very accurate.although no matter which way you look at it,I don't think tracing with one finger can be faster then typing with two thumbs unless you are not familiar with the keyboard..

if Play had better touch screen (say 10fingers,or like blackberry) SwiftKeyX would be GODMODE
i use SwiftkeyX
But with the very weak XPlays screen its not upto its full effect.
It's already God mode...or corrects you're words even if you miss the keys, so it's ultra fast when inputting something.

The HTC_Ime mod is my fave keybord. I could'nt live without it
I use swype beta, it's very nice.
Earthshine0 out-
I have been using Swype for the past few weeks and I got to say that its the best in my opinion, and once you get used to it is when you see the difference in speed + accuracy compared to touch keyboards.
The only thing it lacks for me is the support for arabic keyboard
Though my first choice was swype, but now I prefer Hacker's keyboard because it provides all the possible keys which are normally present on a generic computer keyboard in landscape mode. Prevents hassle to search through alternate keys to find special characters. And obviously it provides suggestions, corrections and many more features.

I type way faster in portrait mode over landscape even though landscape has bigger size keys.I got so uses to typing portrait already.

Smart Keyboard Pro is the best in my opinion!
Better keyboard 8.. I love the storm theme..
Yep, HTC_IME is a great keyboard.
Does anybody have any problems with sweat getting on screen and the keyboard going mental?
Swype is the best . Its fun to use and is miles faster then normal typing once you are used to it.
I'm a huge fan of Swype, but I am curious to try the others listed here.

Definitely be careful about that. I ruined my Droid's digitizer from either sweat or a random raindrop. The far left side of the screen is completely unresponsive to touch, from the soft search key all the way up.
I guess I'm the only one here using Gingerbread Keyboard. Gets the job done, accurate word predictions.
Not only one, me too uses original GB keyboard, but I would use HTC ime, but it FC once its installed, so uninstall ...
Anyone using T9 Trace? I've been trying to install it using files from other phone roms. At the moment it seems to be installed, but after selecting the keyboard in "input method", bringing up the keyboard will force close it
my choice is iphone keyboard
SlideIT is a Swype knock off..

I use that on all my android devices. Highly customizable.
I gotta say swiftkey x tablet.
Best keyboard for phones and tablets hands down. Once it adjust to your typing style you'll be cranking out messages in no time.
Touchpal for my phone. Supports both normal and swype writing. Here is a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74Cr8eXuKl4&
Using Thumb Keyboard for my tab and love it.

Using this as well. Best keyboard i've tried.
Surprisingly, the Gingerbread keyboard is pretty awesome once you tweak the key size and such. Really awesome error correction. Been using it right from the get go. Happy with it ^^
I would suggest thumb keyboard, it's a really great keyboard and will make your typing flying. But not support for chinese typing
i have tried the thumb keyboard but there is a bug with it. i use it for thumb keyboardin, but hooking a fullsized hardware kb causes wierd glitches.
the smart kb pro works well. i will look at the others.

I am actually use QWERTY more than Dvorak but I just want to practice using Dvorak.
the soft keyboard can be changed using hacker's keyboard or Swiftkey but I can't sure how I can change the hardware keyboard layout(except buying a new one).
There are so many language options given with the default Asus' keyboard and CM9 keyboard but which one should I select?
BTW, can I just remove the android keyboard and Asus' keyboard if I use the dock? I'm currently using megatron v1.1.6.
Thank you very much.

I really wouldn't remove all soft keyboards, in case of nuclear apocalypse (your dock stops working ) you'd need it. As far as changing to dvorak the key mappings will be in your /system/ folder editable with a test editor, you'd have to find one someone's done or do it yourself, or perhaps an app exists.
I will keep using the software keyboards but I have so many in my systems. I I just wonder if it is safe to remove the Asus 'one. To thanks
