So I liked it when the home screen didn't auto-rotate, now with the recent update it auto-rotates. Is there any way to revert back to where only the Home screen did not auto-rotate?
I’m not talking about the locking the rotate function as this locks it for everything not just the home screen, I want to restore the original function that only locked the home screen in portrait mode and auto-rotated to landscape when using any other apps such as the browser and what not.
Thanks!

An option would be to install a launcher like apex, which is nearly the same as stock but with a few tweaks. Then force portrait orientation in its settings. This is what I have done
Holo launcher or trebuchet are more similar to stock launcher and have the possibility to disable auto-rotation
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Thanks guys. So I take it there is no way to revert the default launcher back to the way it was? What a bummer.
Nova launcher seems to be the only one that works on JB but its based on the ICS launcher and not JB. Not really a solution.

All of these launchers are optimized to run with JB, you can feel comfortable, if you want to return to the original home just go to settings-applications then open the launcher that you decided to use and press the button "delete default"

Can homescreen autorotation only be done in a full custom rom?
Or would an upgrade (e.g. cyan's making bacon) be able to enable this function?
Cyanogens Makin' bacon doesn't support landscape right now. The only I see to enable it would be to download a homescreen replacement such as Home++ that's what I'm using right now and it works fine.
What happens to your icon/widget layout when you switch to landscape view?
Does Android 2.1 not support auto-rotate by default?
It supports auto-rotate for everything but the home screens, which kinda sucks cause when I get Handcent pop ups if I wanna use the landscape keyboard I have to go into the handcent app. Can only do portrait for pop up quick reply if it comes up while youre on home or lock screen.
I tried open home, it wouldn't let me put widgets on the screens so I got rid of it.
but to my question:
Does native landscape mode for the home screen require a COMPLETELY new rom?
Or just a addition to the stock?
Hi all
Anyone know of a way to lock or select an orientation for the "lock screen" in portrait mode thats compatible with ADW ?
i just read this at modaco:
http://android.modaco.com/content/d.../lock-screen-in-portrait-mode-solution-found/

Thanks for this, I had the same question...lol
Lock portrait with only ADW solved
You can lock it into portrait mode using only ADW, no external apps/widgets required.
I came across how somewhere here on XDA and reposted it here:
http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=7317
to do it in adw...
hold phone in portrait mode
menu --> adwsettings --> system preferences --> check system persistent
that does it for me.
only thing is when you reboot... need to go back in uncheck it, then hold in portrait rotation and go back and re-check it.
Im refering to the lock screen not the home scteen, i want the lock screen set to portrait.
ADW can kinda lock the home screen but not successfully between reboots
anyone figure this out on the stock official froyo? its really annoying that i can now have a fully portrait phone, with the exception of the lock screen.
Widget Locker. It's a paid app but it does the trick.
I found that the most recent version had some bugs with the Streak but if you email the developer he will organise to send you version 1.2.5 which works well with the Streak.
i got the widget launcher apk installed and configured. i guess it will do for now but it doesnt feel very native. every now and then the default android locker will flash for a second. i was hoping a setting in build.prop would have it.

Have you asked the developer to send you version 1.2.5? Like I said, the version on the market is buggy with the Streak but I had no problems at all with 1.2.5.
Kris
so widget locker latest version will rotate lockscreen and lock screen slider, please confirm, on official froyo? thanks..
yeah i had 1.2.5, it crashed on me several times so i just uninstalled it. widget locker doesnt really rotate it into portrait, it more replaces the lock screen with another program, that happens to be portrait only, that you can customize to look pretty close to stock. i think i might wait for a better solution.

You sure you haven't been using 1.2.8? 1.2.5 works perfectly for me to give me a lock screen in portrait.
What exactly do you want anyway? Do you just want the lock screen in portrait or the home screen? Or do you want a lock screen that actively rotate when you rotate the phone?
I installed screen suite locker to replace normal lockscreen but old lock screen kept coming up too, so I downloaded no lock to disable default lockscreen completly.
Works just how I wanted it portrait lock screen no default lockscreen

Ahh... I see! You want the stock lock screen in portrait. No, this cannot be done at this time.

Isn't there a setting in build.prop that will switch to portrait? i really want my Lock screen in portrait.
any news??
This great idea
Just download ultimate rotation control , enable pre app , set lockscreen orientation ( potrait ).
U also can use forced auto orientation for lockscreen, u can use your lockscreen in all orientation.:good::fingers-crossed:

or flash the portraitmode zipfile from the Manii, it should be there somewhere in the development section.
Hi,
If i enable auto-rotation from the home screen, the home screen also rotates automatically creating a lot of lag. Is ut possible that the home is never rotated (always in portrait) whereas applications can rotate the screen?
Please let me know. It would be of great help.
regards,
Nandi
ok, so more info would have been helpul, you know. however, of course it is possible, this is android isn't it . You must have installed a different launcher since your home screen rotates. Look in the launcher settings, there should be a setting somewhere that will turn it off.
tl;dr launcher settings!
This is Froyo rooted on my G3. And the option is in the notification bar drawer. So it isnt becasue of the launcher.
did you even look!?!
Its the home screen! How can it not be launcher related!!
you are really frustrating, but I still explain it to you:
The same way that some other apps dont rotate, some launchers dont rotate, namely stock launcher. If you are using stock launcher the home screen wont rotate regardless of that option being checked or not!! Third party launchers provide the ability to rotate your homescreen! Most, if not all, will allow you to turn it off!!
Sooo go! Check your launcher settings!!
I'm using zeam and its under general. However, you are obviously not using zeam if you are complaining that it is slow.
Soooo go!! Check your launcher settings already!!
P.S. Depending on your launcher turning off rotation for the homescreen might include turning off rotation for the app drawer. I dont know if there are launchers that separate the two.

Make sure you have lagfix v2 installed on your phone. For more info, see general help in this forum!
Something weird just happened to me. Before I was on Gingerblur and when I press the home button, the screen would go back o default screen. If I started off from the default screen and then pressed the home button. then the Dub screens would appear. Now that option is gone. The only why I can bring up my sub screens is if I press the app drawer icon in motoblur. If I press the home screen, nothing happens. Is this a bug or can this be easily corrected in the settings. Please advise. Thanls
Once you install gingerblur you get the stock gingerbread launcher which does no support that function. Try installing ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro from the Market.

I reverted back to stock so now all I have done to the phone is aRoot. It worked in the beginning, but now it doesn't.
Hey so the Android Pie recents is total utter crap. Is there an easy way to get an alternate recents? Maybe a build.prop edit? I'm rooted Btw so can try many a thing. Thanks!
P.S. Gonna probably go back to buttons too because the gesture for recents drives me nuts.
I would like to know also, but I'm not rooted. The scrolling in it is terrible. If i swipe too fast, it goes through several windows at once. If i scroll too slowly, it bounces the same window back in. I can't use navigation bar because i use long-press of home button to turn off screen.
If you guys are rooted, install a second launcher and Freeze the Oneplus Launcher. You will be back to the old recent. Enable the buttons as well.

It's a pie feature that is built in in the default launcher
On the odd occasion a launcher can go whack, if you have another it will automatically go to it or bring you a toast to go to it.It's a rare occurrence but for this reason it's good to always have two functioning launchers, you don't need to set the spare up, it's just there for an emergency till you can get home or whatever and figure out why your launcher is hung. I've diabled the stock launcher myself and use Action but picked up a spare on the play store just in case.
