[Q] SBF Version - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a phone still on stock OS
Is there a way to figure out the its current SBF version? I would make a note and if things go bad I'll download the matching one and re-flash it.

New SGS2 and need advice on which ROM to flash (or better way to uninstall)

Hi all,
I just traded a SGS for an Iphone4 for an SGS2. I used to have my SGS rooted and custom ROM because it was sort of necessary for that phone. I would think that it is not neccessary for the SGS2, but... I'm in China and the phone I bought has QQ Security, QQ phonebook, and 360 Security and a bunch of other junk on here as a system program. I hate Tencent. I hate everything about Tencent. I will not trust this software on my new awesome phone.
I tried to uninstall this garbage with Titanium, and it said it uninstalled, but then it was still there. So I guess I need to flash a new clean ROM. Which is not what I want to do, but so be it.
My baseband and stats are as follows:
Android 2.3.3
Baseband I9100XXKE7
Kernel Version [email protected] #2
QUESTION 1: What ROM is close to stock, has a decent set of the new Samsung programs?
QUESTION 2: I would prefer not to use ODIN, as my USB system / drivers on my home computer is messed up and my SGS and SGS2 cannot connect. Can I do a CWM flash of a ROM (used to be able to do this with most ROMs on SGS if I was upgrading to a similar ROM)? If so, which one is compatible with what I have?
Thanks.
1. If you want to stay close to Stock... then go ahead and flash a Stock Firmware..for example KI4 (2.3.4) or KI3 (2.3.5)
2. Nope you have to use Odin to flash at least a custom Kernel to get Clockwork.. only with Clockwork you can flash other Customs Roms but not stock Roms
You probably have Chinese firmware, which means you cannot flash normal firmware on there, it won't accept it, it is somehow protected.
Dial *#1234# in the dialer and post what you see there.
There is a modified build somewhere here on xda, to which I cannot find the link now. You can probably find it, since you are not the first one with Chinese firmware who wants to get rid of it
pda:i9100zske7
phone: i9100zskf4
csc: i9100zskf4
BTW it is rooted and there is a recovery mod on it now.

[Q] How to install Argen2Stone 3

It might have been asked before but I couldn't find the solution. I am in need of a guide to install Argen2Stone 3.0 onto my milestone 2 currently running on the froyo kernel. I don't want to flash any sbf that is not downgradable because I really like the MIUI which (to my understanding) is only working for froyo kernels.
I know that the Chinese GB can be downgradable? But I'm not sure which one to get. The link on http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2 says "DE/AT/CH" under country, and not specifically Chinese, so I am wondering if this is the downgradable sbf to flash. Then if it is, multiupload isn't working... So I need a mirror if anyone have one :s.
Then after I flashed the sbf file, all I have to do is to restore the nandroid? Anything else I need to be aware of to prevent myself getting stuck with stock GB?
Thanks in advance.

As long as you don't apply the Vivo (Brazil) and Personal (Argentina) you're good to go. With 2.3.4 UK and 2.3.6 Retail Brazil (and several others) you'll be able to downgrade with the tutorial that's in the Android Development section (look at the topic and see how it works, it's on the first page), even though they don't use the Chinese Kernel.
Yeah but the link to multiupload is still not working. I also would prefer if I could just flash the CH rom and if I don't like it, flash back the froyo.
This is the download link of uk 2.3.4 stock rom from china
The md5 is not the same as the original ,so measure whether it is suit for you

Add http yourself. If you dun know chinese ,the image I uploaded may help you.
I have uploaded a image that is "about phone" after i flash this sbf
I too am looking for a solution to this. I hate the multi-touch bug present in the UK kernels and wish that ROM devs would use CH instead. AFAIK only Endless's CM7 uses CH kernel as standard.

[Q] Is baseband and kernel and android version important when flashing ?

hello,
When flashing ROM should we check previous OS baseband, kernel version and androidn version ?
I heard from my friend that you cannot flash older andriod version on previous version such as installing 2.3.3 on 4.1.2. Also, he said that baseband much match the new ROM otherwise the phone will be bricked. Is this true ?

Your mate doesn't know much. You can flash any firmware, old or new so long as it is for that phone.
You can also mix and match modems and kernels, also so long as they are for that phone model.
No phone I know of has gone from 2.3.3 to 4.1.2 unless the 4.1.2 was a custom firmware. Even so you could still flash it back to an older firmware in odin or even cwm recovery (depends).
It's quite rare that a modem will cause a problem but it has happened. For instance on the S3 the baseband was updated at one stage, so that using an older baseband on newer firmware resulted in no outgoing call sound. But that was an easy fix. Just needed to relash a newer modem.
I only know of one instance where flashing a certain kernel on a certain rom caused a complete brick. That was on the S2 with one firmware version I believe.
Finally, if you are thinking of flashing and don't have much experience, my advice is read read read until your eyes burn. This forum is a good starting point.

[Q] SBF Download Links Dead?

Looking for alternate links for TMobile USA stock SBF files, since the links referred to in the sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 appear to no longer be functioning.
Currently have 2.2.1 TMobile (34.4.9.MB525.T-Mobile.us.US) build 3.4.2-107_JDN-9. Anyone know where I can download this, or the previous (Eclair) stock TMobile SBF?
I have a current nandroid backup but in certain situations it would be nice to have an SBF to fall back on just in case I need to use RSDLite.
Thanks in advance.

Is there an easy way to flash a bone stock rom using TWRP?

I want to go back to the bone stock tracfone rom but odin just spits out an error and the phone says SW REV CHECK FAIL FUSED 3 BINARY 2 when i try to flash the stock rom, so what im hoping for is to force the stock rom back on with TWRP. Is this possible?
Could you give more information regarding your phone model, the firmware you are on now and what you want to install?
it's a straight talk branded Galaxy S5, model number is SM-S902L the only stock firmware ever released was 4.4.2, I'm currently running the cyanogenmod 13 KLTEVZW (verizon version of the rom) because it's the only rom that gives me more than 2 hours of battery life even with a brand new battery. I want to install the stock 4.4.2 rom but no matter what i try it fails with the phone saying in red text SW REV CHECK FAIL: (aboot) Fused 3 > Binary 2. Odin spits out this error http://i.imgur.com/ksSre5A.png
Okay, since I do not have a verizon version of the S5 I do not know the correct answer.
But here are my ideas:
1) I know this idea is pretty dumb, but did you make a backup of the kitkat rom before? So you could restore it. Or you could install a custom rom which is based on the stock kitkat rom, but be sure that is available for the SM-S902L(!!!)
2) Try it with odin 3.11.1 (but I do not believe that there will be a difference)
2) But if no 1 doesn't work, my honest suggestion would be to either stay on your current rom or to send it to a local mobile shop/verizon shop, because the few bucks are more worth it than a complete new phone (in case you might screw something up while flashing)
And in case that somebody else knows the solution, don't hesitate to enlighten us
