8GB Nexus 7 Question - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought the N7 the day it came out back in July. I got the 8 gb model. For some reason now there are lines that pass through the screen when I'm watching a video or anything like that. If I send it in, would they send me a 16 gb back or another 8 gb?

Deciding to get the 16GB Nexus 7... some final q's

i decided i cannot wait any longer. I am going to go out and buy the Nexus 7 16GB at staples in Canada. I was thinking of waiting for the 32gb but it may not come to Canada for a long time. I will ask them about pre ordering the 32GB (if possible) if they can, i will just return it in 2 weeks and get a refund. I was just wondering if it could fit all these games with room to spare. The games are: Bards Tale, dead trigger, siegecraft, shadgun, gof 2 and finally ARMA shooting range. Will all of these fit on the amount of storage space on the Nexus 7? how much space exactly will i have when i buy it?. Also, for USB OTG i heard that there is a way to charge while connected to usb. I read it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934722&highlight=otg.
Will this cause any damage to the tablet? i was planning on making a custom case or just duct tape a usb to the back of the Nexus 7. WIll charging while connected with a y-cable wreck my device. I cannot wait any longer.
Thanks.
I would (highly) suggest waiting until the 32GB N7 becomes available unless you really don't mind having something constantly sticking out of the MicroUSB port. When you buy you N7 you will most likely only have about 12.5 GB available to you, I bought the 8GB and only have about 5.5 GB if I have no apps installed which kind of annoys me since I can't have that many games installed at once, forget movies and music. I'm going to sell my 8 GB once the 32 GB becomes available because I would hate having something sticking out of the device constantly.

Thank you for the advice. i have a question. how long would i have to wait for it to be available in Canada? i only heard it will be a christmas gift guide from a store in the U.K. How long would i have to wait for it to come to canada? i wish i knew.
Isn't the 8GB supposed to drop to $99.00 USD as well?
Maybe this tablet is not for me. I don't know which one to get that does not have the storage issue that is very similar. Does anyone have any ideas?
Honestly I like the 16gb, I have plenty of tegra games and non Terra.. plus lots of apps and have about 2 GB free..
I'm using a otg connector for HD mmovies from a 32gb flash drive
There is always something bigger/better just around the corner. Maybe soon after the 32gb version rumors of a 64 gb will start up, or a model with a micro slot.
It just depends on how long you want to wait, and what you actually need.

It depends
The thing is that the 32GB is rumored to be very close in price to the 16 GB, so I would wait if I were you. The other thing is though, is that there will always be something that's better as new things or improvements come all the time, so part of me is saying that you should go ahead and buy it. Just to throw that out there.
There may always be better things right around the corner but tablet development is slooow. We rarely see new and exciting devices in the tablet market and even more rarely do we see strong developer community support for those devices.
The only thing keeping me from buying a Nexus 7 right now is that the 8gb version is supposed to drop to $99 at some point... no idea when though.

Which Nexus 4 did you buy? 8 GB or 16 GB?

Just wanted to know how many people ordered each version. Also, how many people settled for the other version if their choice was unavailable?
16gb
I got the 16gb version. I would assume that the 16gb version is more in demand compared to 8gb.
8gb.... 16 dissapeared so fast...
I ordered the 8gb version. I'll be utilizing the cloud services mostly, so no need for the extra memory. It was a hard decision though since the 16gb was only one click away from the order submission...
16 GB.
I got the 16gb version as well. You should make the question a poll so you can have the number easy to see.
Neither... :crying:
16gb if u can get one...
OK sorry for the delay! Poll is up guys!

I got the 8GB. I use USB OTG. If it's anything like the Galaxy Nexus and that MTP connection thing, transfer speeds are going to suck.
Settled for 8gb even though the 16gb was in my cart aapbout 5 times. Damn you Google! I'll be ok with only 8gb anyway.

8gb, I live in the cloud baby! (Thanks to unlimited 4g data )
I went in hoping to get the 16GB just to future proof myself since I plan on having the phone for a while, but also tried ordering the 8GB when I couldn't get the 16GB to stay in my cart. Kept switching back an forth until one of them stuck and ended up with the 16GB.
got mine 9:11 PST. 8 GB. How does all of your orders look like? Mine says "Estimated shipping November 15th"
I settled for the 8 GB but after thinking it over for a while, I think I'll be glad i saved the $60. I'm currently trying the 'living on the cloud' thing and it's going pretty well since I have a lot of data (i have 6 GB).
16GB because I wanted it I ordered it together with a Nexus 10 16GB and got single shipping charge only.

16 or 32GB

Which do you have? I have a 16GB Nexus 4 which I am struggling with recently but most of that is due to accumulation of whatsapp pictures and stuff. Which do you have and how are you filling it up?

I ordered a 32. Would have gone for 64. I keep all of my music in FLAC and currently have it on a mSD card in my Note 10.1. I'm using an 8 GB Moto G at the moment, and I have almost nothing loaded on it. My goal is to be able to keep whatever I want on one device.
Same here. I retired my ZuneHD and have started keeping all of my music on my phone, so I absolutely needed 32gb. Spend the extra money and buy the bigger size, trust me it's worth it if you're asking this question.
I recently went back to my nexus 4 to sell my other devices. The 16gb storage is rough. It's really not enough anymore.
I went with 32gb. For $50 to not regret not having enough storage is a no brainer.
32gb more than enough for me
I have a 32 gb 2013 Moto X and it is just barely enough. I would buy a 64 gb 2014 X in a heart beat.
i have the 16gb, it's fine for me, still have 4gb of space. i don't game on my phone and not many apps.
my htc one was 32gb, never used more than 14gb, and that was a year's worth of stuff
The 32gb version only have 24.39gb of free space, I image the 16gb only have a little more than 10gb.
Went with 16 since I was impatient so went with a carrier version and they only had 16. I'm coming from a 32g HTC one m7, which replaced a 32g nexus 5 with a cracked screen. Haven't had this little storage since the nexus 4. I'm planning on deleting pictures and video every week and just having them on the cloud, which will be a change. I don't game. And now that I have a locked boot loader phone, with little development anyway, I won't need to keep various ROMs, themes, radios, backups, etc on my phone. Only thing left for me is Google music which I'm planning on cherry picking albums every now and then to keep my streaming usage down. Overall I think I can deal with 16gigs. But I'd prefer more, just to have more music space.

I just bought the 32GB because although I don't store much on my phone and I dont game or anything things do accumulate over time so decided to play it safe.

if i can find my OTG cable, i'll just use a flash drive for my music in my car so i don't have to stream.
It just depends on what you need... For me 16gb is more than sufficient. This is going to sound weird, but i had the nexus 5 16gb since release and have never been full.
My music library is close to 16GB so I went with the 32. I try to buy the best version of everything (real life car trims, phones, etc) so I'm not kicking myself in the ass later for being cheap.
I went with 32gb. I'm on T-Mobile and use Google play all access, so storage space for music is a non-issue as I can stream as much as I want. BUT... When I had my nexus 5, I only had 16gb and pics and videos filled the damn thing up too much. My G3 had 32gb (I didn't have a memory card) and I didn't have to worry about space, so I went with 32gb on the moto X.
Even with just 24 Gig of free space of the 32 Gig model, doesn't the filesystem start to slow down when it's close to 80% being full? Causing phone lag?
Went with the 32gb and barely have 10gb used thanks to movies. I had a note 3 prior with 32 GB plus a 64gb SD card... Never needed the SD card unless doing file transfers between my phone and the wife's.

I went to a lot of extra trouble to get the 32GB version (only the 16GB version is available here in Holland) . Your phone will just be faster with more storage (that's how emmc works) but 16 GB's does fill up rather fast if you want to go on holiday and put some maps there or if you want to record some videos or just shoot a lot of pictures
16gb for me. My photos and videos gets backed up to cloud automatically and music is streamed.

So far, as far as I know, yes. All the in-shop phones I am aware of are 16 GB.

32GB or 64GB?

The color wars are fun to read, but what about size?
even if I did have the 64GB model, it still wouldn't house a quarter of my music library. also, the 32GB was easily available- I just walked into a T-Mobile store on the 19th, asked for the phone, and left 10 minutes later with my Midnight Blue in hand.
I was one of the few lucky ones who managed to get a 64GB from T-Mo on launch day. With that said; I opted for the 64GB because I knew I would be using this thing as a tablet. I've loaded some 1080p movies (I can't find 2K movies...) to show off this display and plenty of music to take advantage of the stereo(!) speakers.
64gb because there is no SD slot so more storage wont hurt.

I went with the 32GB for a few reasons. My LG G2 was 32GB, and the only reason I came even remotely close to filling it up, was because I had two full nandroid backups and a titanium backup on the phone with the game "Yesterday" included which is about a 1GB game. I have a fairly simple setup, outside of the stock apps I keep maybe 20 other apps/games on my phone. I keep 4GB of music on my phone just in case I get to an area without service and I want music.
I also figured the 32GB version would be easier to obtain.
How backordered is the 64 GB model from T-Mobile?

Ah thanks. I didn't go back far enough.
$50 extra for double the storage? It's a no brainer really, 64GB all the way!
64 duh
Its driving me crazy not knowing if ATT will ever get get the 64gb version.
I could have waited and gone with the 64, but when I sat down and thought it over, the 32 would be just fine. I came from a G3 and the only thing that took up space was a set of titanium backups and two nandroids; a stock based (CloudyG3) ROM and various flavors of the CM 12 test release. My music is up in the cloud, I back up my pictures to google and I don't really hold on to video files. All things considered, the only concrete reason that I had for a 64 was 'because moar'
So functionally speaking, that extra 32G of storage would pretty much just be a reason for me to just keep crap around that I would have otherwise deleted.
64gb for me but 32 wouldn't hurt since i have an 64 gb sandisk usb dual drive otg.
I would of gone with the 64Gb one if the Stores had it but they didn't so I got an 32Gb Blue one on Saturday. I had to pay $67 for the taxes and JUMP! from my S4 to my first Nexus device for the Stock Android and I love it! the front speakers are AMAZING!! Now I pay $24 monthly for this phone which is totally worth it in my eyes.

The 64gb is only 7.6% more than the 32gb. Why not? Sure, I'm completely unlucky and haven't even been able to order one yet but hey I'm patient. My rooted rooted S3 is running great so I'm fine with being patient and waiting to order a 64gb from Google/Moto.
To me, this phone is an investment and I plan on it providing me with years of great service like my S3 has. I know down the road I'll regret if I get a 32gb just because I was in a rush and couldn't wait a few more weeks. Also, if I ever want to sell the phone, I'm sure the 64gb will give me a decent little price premium.
Been using a 32gb Note 3 with a 32gb card for a year now and I think I could probably still get away with 32gb alone but I will get a 64gb model just because I'll have it for 18 months or so...
I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
Really boils down to how quickly I want a phone. I have no music and I plan to JUMP to the Nexus 2015 in a year's time anyway.

Poll: Now that you have your 32GB, do you still want 64?

I've had my 32GB Nexus 6 since 11/19 and am really liking it. I have over 25 GB still after loading all my typical music and apps. At this point, I'm not really sure I want a 64 GB--though I had initially wanted one--even didn't try to buy a 32GB the 1st week looking only at the elusive 64's.
How many of you 32'ers out there still want more memory?
I've always had either a 8GB or 16GB phone, 32GB is already a step up for me. Even with 16GB I never filled the phone up. I'll typically have some pictures and music on my phone, I don't have a need to keep a bunch of stuff on there that I'm not using. If I needed to go over 32GB's there would be a lot of stuff on my phone that I never use.
I was originally pining for the 64GB, but just to have the best of the best.
My Nexus 7 is 32, and I've never come close to filling it. I'm sure that's different for everyone, but with cloud services galore I need very little storage for shot vids and pictures. With all apps installed and 20+GB to spare, I no longer regret my decision or want a 64GB model.
The 64 would just mean 32gb worth of extra crap wasting room.
I don't store much locally other than backups, so I have plenty of room.
I had a 32gb LG G3 with a 64gb Micro SD in it before the Nexus 6. I used approximately 5gb on the card and maybe the same on the phone. More than 32gb is overkill for me since I don't put music on the phone and I don't download tons of games.
I haven't pulled the trigger on the N6 yet, awaiting to see how VZ will screw me over...
On the side though, currently using a GNex, I never filled it up either, have about 10Gb free, however that said, I haven't loaded games or a lot of apps onto it, only what I need, and if not used often I uninstall basically to not have to deal with any background processes that may run due to an app being installed.
But given the choice, and I hope I am, I'll likely settle on the 64Gb, because I typically only have one phone at a time, and keep it longer then what most of us here would consider normal, I mean, I'm hitting three years on the GNex, and figure I'll be doing the same if it is an N6, so for a few bucks more grab the extra storage, easier than wishing I had it IF I fill up a 32Gb ...
Got my 32 blue today and it is more than enough. I don't store movies or play games and i only store about 2-4 gigs of music and it gives me enough space to do a ROM backup, etc.

I have had a Nexus 5 with 32 GB for about a year, and it almost always has > 20GB free. I figured if I never used all the memory on the N5 I sure didn't need twice as much on the N6, so I went with the 32. I'm sure it will be more than enough.
Would I have loved getting a 64GB? Yes but the 32GB will do just fine for me. Coming from a Note 2 I barely used any space on the internal storage and I really only used about 15GB on my 64GB micro sd card. I mostly stream my music so I won't have to worry about that. I also don't keep numerous roms on my device storage either. Worst case scenario I'll just by an OTG flash drive if I really need the space.
Well I was going to wait for the 64 version from ATT.....then my local store received a big shipment of one last night...so I impulse bought it lol. I didn't have an issue with my N5 16GB, so I think I'll just stick with it.
I have more than 21 GB available, so I'm sure I'll be just fine with the 32 GB.
external storage, no problem
now that I found that you can use an external micro usb sitck as external storage... I connect the usb stick, when on the wireless charging pad for additional power draw of the stick, and use it just for nandroid backups and tibu dump site. then remove it, relieving the 32gb onboard just to do phone stuff. plenty of room now.:good:
I ordered a blue 32gb, expect Sensei Kernel on this beast
I just received my 32 GB from Moto. I am really liking it though I still want my 64GB from T-mo that is in back order purgatory.
On the 32gb model, how much storage is available after initial setup? Thinking of picking up a N6 once it comes back in stock and was trying to decide if 32gb would suffice.

It depends how you use your phone... personally i have no issue what so ever with 32GB... in fact i had 8 GB free on my 16GB Nexus 5 , so 25GB ( usable ) is a **** tonne for me
I use Spotify for music and plex for movies , so a lot of streaming on my end
I returned my 32gb and ordered a 64gb... But I'm getting tired of waiting and may just cancel my order and say screw it and just use my iPhone 6.. T-mobile's order process sucks.!
