Getting my Nexus 4 from CarphoneWarehouse - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just read Engadget's review of the Nexus 4 and I was wondering if their comment on the battery life is true. They said it sucks. Only 5 hours on their test. Is this a bug that can be solved by a software update?

That is odd, I think maybe we'll just have to wait and see, because the review from the Verge reported that it had outstanding battery life, the writer claimed to have 45% battery life left after 10 and 1/2 hours off the charger with normal usage.

[Q] Is the battery going to be an issue

hi
I saw this image on engadget and was shocked.
They have mentioned in their review that the battery is absolutely terrible.
Another issue is that battery case cant be removed easily.
How big of a problem is. I want the phone's battery to last atleast 24 hours.
there is another thread with few 100 posts, no need to create another one.
That image says very little. For all we know screen on could be 5hrs which would be astounding with that hardware.
Engadget didn't update the software before they did the review on Nexus 4 that was why they got only 5 hours and lacks. This have been found in one of their pictures.

Yes, that is so true.
And @OP, dont buy a review of Engadget and Cnet on any Android devices.

[Q] Battery life...?

Third day with my Nexus 4, and battery life seems to be just like the old days of my gnex ? I am really surprised. Tried different rom and kernel combinations. My battery is draining fast. Cant blame any app since i have been running the same apps on my gnex as well as my sold s3, experienced an impressive battery life on the s3. Even tho the s3 and the N4 has the same 2100 battery ? Any explanation? Ty.

Will you give a brief summary? Who wants to read through that entire thread?

Wait until new phone syndrome wears off.
You've only had your phone 3 days, and your still flashing new roms, which sucks up a lot of juice. Let it settle for a few days.
Also a 4.7" display sucks down battery. My phone last all day no problem now that I've had it for a few weeks. First week it wouldn't last 6 hours... because I used it for 6 hours screen on constantly.

Reflashing stock improves battery life?

I can't find the original thread in regards to this (I'm assuming there is one, otherwise I cannot recall where I read this). But it was advised by some fellow Nexus 4 owners that flashing stock out of the box (not reformatting, apparently, because that doesn't produce the same results) had the potential to dramatically increase battery life. I get fairly good battery life on this phone (roughly 4-4.5 hours screen-on time), but I'm noticing some people getting 5.5+ hours on stock. I have EXCELLENT HSPA+ signal all day (San Diego), and not to mention I'm on a good WiFi connection at least 75% of the day. Have any of you tried this method and had good experiences with it? Also, if you guys have the thread handy where it was discussed, I'd love to sift through it. Don't know why I can't find it anywhere.

typical xda sometimes I think its just to be heard or get their posts numbers up. I have none of the issues I see people posting about....
No tips from my side. Same settings as manufacturer
No tips and tricks from my side. Its 5:33pm now I'm up since 6:45am ( phone not on charger) 56%.
Just check maybe some of your apps(Im pretty sure you did verified ) and by the way I'm on snapdragon and not exynos.
Good luck with that.

Mate 9 - 1 month later

Fellow XDA members check out my video on my mate 9 after owning it for a month, [Mod Edit
I'm also a power user and I have to say I've gotten 8 hours SOT. When I got this phone I used the daylights out of it. Email social media, YouTube, web and couldn't kill this thing. I agree low light pics aren't good but I do like the camera otherwise. I would have liked to have seen the price around $500 seeing how great the Axon 7 is at $400.

Could you please tell me about the camera lens? I mean to ask about the tiny scratches on the camera lens after usage of a week or two, these scratches are only visible under the light when camera lens is facing the light source. please update about it.
WHY?!
Help me. I am almost sure that my battery drains so much after update to B138 and not physical battery defect. Please convince me. Am I right?

It does, more than B126, but in my experience it will settle after a while. Probably just reindexing for the first couple of days.

You can use FunkyHuawei but you will end up having to restore everything afterwards.

HI,
Im struggling to understand how one is able to attain a SOT of even more than 4 hours. Could the signal strength be a factor for SOT?
I dont have bluetooth turned on nor wifi with automatic screen brightness, i barely get passed 3 hours. Heck, i dont even have the facebook app on the phone.
Please enlighten me on how you have managed to get an SOT of 8 hours. Thanks!:cyclops:
Other than the lock screen issue, the other two are just nitpicking, in my opinion.

When I play a movie either on facebook or youtube and receive a phonecall, I can hear very loud in the headset at the same time the caller and the movie sound. It also happens with google maps. Does any of you have this issue?
was hoping this device would drop to 500. I just can't justify 600 for a huawei.

Great video, disagree entirely with battery. This is the first phone EVER, that I do not have to charge before bedtime. Real life use. Everything else including the Samsungs will need a charge early evening at least. This one, never.
I agree about the screen... I'd have liked 2k.

That is so true even in my case. I use my phone like usual and I get 3-4 hours of SOT. Last night I went to bed, it was on 16%, so I put it on charge.
I am surprised when people around me talk about 6-7 hours of SOT. Makes me wonder, if my battery is bad, or perhaps I need to reset my phone and start again.
By the way, this is within a week of buying the mobile. I never saw more than 4 hours before last night.
I must say battery life is great . I am a heavy user too n I do not disable any stuffs except GPS ( enabled it only when needed). My MINIMUM SOT is consistently 9 hours . With greater usage of wi-fi 10-11 hours. Is quite similar to my other mi mix with higher capacity battery. These are similar SOT with Mate7, Mate8.
As comparison these are other SOT on my other phones I had used : s7e 6-7, one plus 3t 5-6, V20 5-6, iPhone 7+ usage 11-12

Camera at low light could improve further, it have some software issues.
If noticed that when battery low, the phone throttles graphics and cpu performance, i hope it will be resolved.
Also typing with swiftkey doesn't feel smooth as with my s7e, it has some delays, sometimes though it works fine.
