I have a Micro SD to usb adaptor. I notice I can't find any "circuitry" inside. its Micro SD direct USB pin out compatible?
IE if I took a micro usb plug like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281010532057
and a micro sd socket like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140783452372
could I solder them together and have a working OTG micro SD slot?
or is there more to it than that?
See if this helps. The guide is for a tablet but it's all the same. Just make sure the micro usb plug is in host mode just short pin 4 & 5 to do so.

thanks you very much for the link !! I searched a long time never found that thread
No. USB And SD card is not the same. You need a card reader chipset to go inbetween.
There is some full-size SD card that can snap in half and plug into an USB port, these have this card reader chipset built in.

Id very much like to find two empty note ii shells. Cut them in half virticly and thickly. Glue together. Use project box for the hole and dremel it so the ends curve with the case. Put in a male usb micro sd and fill it with memory.
Taller note ii
With 256gb added at least right.
Anyone know where I can find the case parts cheep. Or a simmilar thickness and width project box. Color dosent matter as long as its opaque.

the price of this tools is very chip so you can try without any damage :good:
Spare parts for phones, especially stuff like plastic shells can often be found on online auction sites like ebay for cheap. In some cases, they might be fakes or factory rejects with minor flaws, but if you're just going to cut the thing up to stuff memory cards in it, that probably isn't a huge deal.

It wouldent be a huge deal but im having trouble finding some. Everywhere I saw wants like 15 for the shell and 15 for the batt cover or more. And I need two sets.
Flaws dont matter to me. Nfc dosent matter. N still so pricy. And I cant belive it. Im eused to finding shells for 5 dollars or less. So I think im going to go radioshack style project box rout instead.
If you happen to run across some flawed cases [mainly defects in the top half] pm me a link.
As always thanks for the advice.

If you have one of those thumbnail, barely bigger than the usb plug microsd readers, the circuitry is INSIDE the usb plug, on the underside of the usb pins/board. Super tiny, biggest thing might be the crystal tin.
Standard SD (all sizes) cards are essentially raw flash nand, with some wear leveling hardware.

I'm thinking of buying a streak direct from dell to use with my 3uk sim
Looking on their website exactly what's included with the basic model as usb cable and chArger show as separate purchases
I never attach my desire to my pc so my question is does it come with a normal charger surely it does ?
Also notice that 2.1 isn't for direct purchases only o2 customers any idea when it will be released presume its delayed cos the 2.1 has screwed up most o2 customers phones - I'm hoping dell are delaying for 2.2 release
Just another question has anyone found a holder which u can clip to ur belt to carry the phone ? And has anyone bought the car kit does it rattle or is it sturdy ?

Anyone ? Someone must have bought direct from dell

It comes in a neat little box; including earphones, USB cable, and a charger!
To update to 2.1 just have a look at the appropriate thread in the forums...
Success!
i bought it directly from DELL UK. IN the box were
Dell Streak
Wall Adapter with USB on 1 end.
USB Cable to Connect the Streak to PC or Wall Charger
Headset
Sleeve to hold the streak in. Nylon i believe
As for the Case question PDAIr has got some cases that you can use or you can search ebay for easycase or something. Look in the accessories forum there are links for it.
^^ everything above but don't forget either a 16GB Micro SD card or pay extra for a 32GB Micro SD card.
I would recommend easecase off ebay where you can get a custom made leather case for £25 (though you'll have to wait about a month for it) but you can choose the orientation, have exposed or hidden magnets or buttons to secure the lap, whether it has a belt clip, pocket or a belt loop, the colour and type of leather on the outside and the colour and fabric on the inside, have your name or whatever embosed on to the front of the case and if need be, to increase the size of the case for a looser fit.
There are plenty of universal phone holders that will hold the phone one way or another (I'm currently using a clingo sticky pad holder thing) but I've read that the official car holder wobbles a lot due to the flexible arm and the weight of the phone. Tho it's worth noting that for a 12v to USB adaptor, the adaptor needs to output 1000mA and have the 2 middle pins shorted in order for the adaptor to charge the Dell. Some will already have the 2 pins shorted but a lot of them don't.
Excellent thanks just how stable is 1.6 cos I know on my hero it was horrible Bluetooth would never work properly ....

I find connecting to audio devices is fine (mine auto connects to my car stereo whenever I get in and start the car) but I have had a couple of issues transfering items via bluetooth to other devices. Android doesn't seem to allow file transfer by default but you can download bluetooth file transfer off the market for free and it works most of the time, but sometimes it just doesn't want to play. Also, transfering items eats up battery big time!
My HD2 USB socket is buggered, it won't charge unless I get the cable in at a certain angle. It's definitely not the cable which is dodgy, I've used three different ones and they all have the same result. This means I can't sync Android with my laptop.
Any way I can disassemble my phone to repair or replace the USB socket? Any guides out there? Thanks.
I googled repair HTC HD2 charge port
And got pages of stuff
Same to me. What's happened is the port has come away from the main board. Just needs soldering.
I don't use usb to sync so I bought a mains battery adaptor for charge.

Just needs soldering! I'm afraid for the average joe trying to solder the micro usb connector pins back onto the pcb is no easy task. My reccomendation would to leave solder out of it, you'll likely short something or get solder spashes all over the place.
Get the finest soldering iron tip you can, a magnifying glass and just press the pins back onto the pcb pads.
TO be honest this is very poor design by htc, that socket should have been reinforced, using solder to hold sockets down is just terrible cheap design.

Agreed, absolutely POS design. I had my HD2 less than a month and my usb broke.
I didn't have the guts to try and re-solder it, so I got me an external charger, spare battery, and started using things like dropbox, email attachments, and micro-sd to standard size sd-adapter more.
I never had any problems with the mini-usb's, but it seems the micro's are alot more delicate

Technicaly the mini has a much lower mtbf. the micro issue is that folks try to put in in the wrong way up as its harder to see, so spend effort pushing the socket off not connecting to it
I have dropped a red blob of paint onto mine and now the problem has gone.
The Mini was a far better connector. Easier connection, stronger, more pins & already in huge use. introducing & standardising to the micro was madness !
Yeah, I use an external charger and unplug my battery to charge it, but it's really not very practical. I was using an app called 'Sleep as an droid' which is a great alarm clock app but I can't use it any more because my phone just runs out overnight
I might give it a go, but I really don't want to damage my phone any more

There is a store in south Wales that will soldier it back for about £20 thy google
I got a spare battery and an external charger. I just swap out the battery once it is empty for the spare which is fully charged in about 1-1.5 hrs.
I also use a card reader for large file transfers and samba for smaller ones.
Fortunately, when the port died, I had a 420MB partition. So I can still flash most android Roms.
If any of you know anyone who fixes the HD2 in India, please let me know.

I have two batteries and an external charger.
I do not understand your last point: how do you flash without USB ?

Transfer ROM to sd card, flash using cwm.

Does anyone sell a long MicroUSB adapter kit for DIY docking stations?
Something that can be assembled onto a fiberglass or wood dock.
As in, a connector that doesn't have the molded end with cable already attached.
But wht exacty u need? Micro/mini usb cable? Usb male/female pin/plug? Give some mor details.
HD2 HYPERDROID EXTREME EDITION V6.0.1 @ FIKERT KERNAL.
Most micro USB connectors come apart pretty easily.
There are usually 3 tack solder contacts on one side and 2 on the other.
Get yourself a few $3 cables and a razor blade to try out.
You can strip the shells off, route a hole in your stand and insert it.
I think by "long" microUSB he mean really those longer ones, with ~16 additional pins, like one we can find in Nook Tablet.

I disagree, he wants to make his own dock, and needs something a bit longer that will be easier to mount. I have thought about the same thing myself
I think one of these below should do the trick, as they can be taken apart, but obviously, you'll have to do your own soldering. It's a bit tricky, even with a 0.5mm pencil tip iron.

Good luck!
you might want to check out parts sites. I did a quick search on mouser.com for micro usb and under interconnects i selected "USB connectors" you can see a picture of most of the options and even go with micro 3.0 if its better for you
Whoops, I forgot about this thread.
Thanks for all the great suggestions so far!
Yeah, I want the longer USB. Because right now, I have an OEM Samsung car dock that I use.
But when I have my phone in a TPU case, the USB isn't long enough anymore to properly insert all the way into the phone. Because the TPU case puts the phone about 1/4" further from the USB.
I like the idea of stipping a three dollar USB cable.
I think this will be a long term project that I'll work on here and there.
Looking into this myself but for a different reason. I can't find what I want but I did order two of these and I reckon they will work perfectly for you.
http://ie.farnell.com/hrs-hirose/zx80-b-5s/micro-usb-type-b-plug/dp/1719110?Ntt=171-9110
I think that's also Newark in the US. Probably the same part number there. There is at least an extra 5mm there to get you past the TPU case.
I got a good deal on a refurbished Tegra Note 7 so I quickly snagged it as I wanted a tablet for media consumption, some browsing + gaming! Now I've read all the reviews and came across the infamous ultra flimsy micro-usb port. I'm hoping that the tablet was refurbished because of a faulty port and they put in an awesome one! Anyway, do you guys have any suggestions for me so that I don't break the port like using a particular charger, any specific way to charge it(Wireless Charging without any soldering or other method that requires skills with tools?) or anything, really. Also, in case it does break, I'm guessing inevitably it will, has anyone found a convenient way except sending it to the respective manufacturers?
I just recently got a used one off eBay. The cord that came with it was a very tight fit and I could see how that would eventually break the port. Fortunately my samsung cord slips on the port very easily. And since it's white I marked the top of the cord with black magic marker so I never put it in wrong. So far it's working out great.
There's not much else to do but be extremely careful or go buy a Micro USB Type A cable. The whole problem with the port is that they used the wrong one.

I never even knew there were two types of Micro USB connectors until I got this thing. I never bothered to get the right cable (and Nvidia didn't bother including the right one... did they even know there were two types?), and thanks to a minor fall while plugged in, I have to plug my cable in slightly crooked to get it to charge right. If I plug it straight in, it will show it's charging but actually drain the battery even if the stupid thing is off!
I've got two Simple Touches with loose charging ports. I was as careful as I could be for years, but eventually the not-very-durable attachments broke and they are unusable.
I've taken one of the Nooks apart, but can't find any numbers on the port or the board, or specs on the details of the port to buy some more. So far the best I've come up with is: Micro USB port type B, female, 5-pin, 4-leg. The pics I've found on these show variability of the leg shape and the spacing, and whether the bevel on the male connector faces up or down relative to the legs.
Can anyone help me with further specs for these ports or where to get them? I've spent hours researching this (right now I have more time than money) and no luck so far. My hope is I can mess around with a friend's hot air soldering station and get at least one of these to work again. And beef up the attachment so it doesn't break again.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Sorry to hear about your nook problem.
I am not a technician but the micro Usb port is a pretty common one, So I think a common Micro USB port will work
If you can please contact a professional technician .They will do the fix quickly. If not post this in mobileread forum
(http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=231) The technical genius in here seems to absent
these days.
Check out these ebay links.
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/micro-usb-connector
You can contact the sellers with your orginal port(picture of the port) and get verified. Also check local phone
hardware sellers or even Amazon.com.
Wish you all the best.

Thanks. I couldn't keep the link I had to the different variations on the 4-leg placement (because I'm new) but I originally had a similar link included. There doesn't seem to be a way to clarify what exactly matches the Nook port except maybe as you say, with ultra close-up pictures. Ebay had a bit more detail in general than Amazon, but still unable to narrow it down sufficiently. There were probably ten different types that were close-but-no-cigar.
I did contact a local cell phone repair place that gets raves for replacing phone ports, but they won't do a Nook, and if it cost more than $20 or 30 wouldn't be worth it. I also have spent hours sifting thru stuff on the mobilereads site (it's how I felt able to take one of the Nooks apart and start messing around) which has some great details, but not this exact one.
Hay, don't be so concerned about this port.
I personally use 3 phones and my sister got 2 phones.
So we use different mini Usb cables to charge or transfer files to our devices.
But we never had problems.
So the lesson is most of the devices use same or identical mini usb ports.
Therefore just use the most common port and just experiment.I know Nook use safty steps to prevent short circuits. So don't be so worried but be careful with the soldering.
(Use the ebay sellers to get the port you want. Most of them are very helpful.)
Best Regards

There is a place in San Diego that advertises NST repairs (among others), including the micro USB port. Obviously they are in the repair business, but you might get lucky if you contact them. Maybe they can give you specs on the port. Heck, since they are in SD, they might even be able to give you a Mouser part number!
Try searching for the connectors on mouser.com or the like. You should be able to get a good description of the dimensions from the datasheets. You can order in quantities as low as one.
