Will try right now. I need to install adb first right? Thank you
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using XDA Premium HD app

just tried your method and said that it was a read only file system after chmod 06755 /system/bin/su i was able to move the su from sd card to system/bin but when it comes to that step its read only

Try updating binaries in super user before you go crazy.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2

just checked that and did not worked so started from scratch and removed su from system and sdcard now when typing su at adb shell screen it says system/sh :su not found. confused on what to do now

I can confirm that it works as well but I missed a step and now I gotta sbf :-\

Sorry I didn't provide some warnings and things to try to verify some of the steps. When I was figuring it out I knew I had one shot so I did it in another system folder first to confirm.
Glad to help others not have to spend the time restoring though

Thanks for the help. Still struggling with rsd because my stupid computer froze while installing fast boot drivers so now my computer thinks i have them installed so it doesn't try to download them again but rsd fails due to lack of the drivers. Looking for those ap fast boot drivers and its hard doing that for phone as new as ours

Perm Root not working

I followed multiple steps for installing perm root on a friends Mytouch and for some reason we could not get the s-off feature to work. I noticed too we do have SU access via adb or terminal but I still never could get s-off. After we got root we used rom manager to install clockwork and after the fact it installed 3.0.2 i believe it completely borked the recovery. I stepped it down to 3.0.0 and still had the same issue. The main reason i wanted to get s-off was to adb flash the recovery but I got a signature fail. Any ideas or suggestions to get this working correctly? Rom Manager will not let me install 2x cwm basically stating it can not install it period. I also tried the batch file root method same issue. Thanks for your help in advance.
Please look at the "True permaroot and S-OFF" thread in Development section, and execute step-by-step.
If your friend's MT4G is running Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3), you'll need to use Gingerbreak instead of Visionary+ to get root access.
Its on froyo and i followed that guide i have perm root but we can not get s off. I can use root access for any programs

If you are following the ./gfree method step by step it will root your phone.
If you are using the root.sh script and it's not working chances are you may have a bad eMMC chipset and it will not root properly.
I know HTC said they would be pushing a update to close the exploit hole that is used to root our phones but i don't think it's been pushed yet.
Im not sure but it said something about not being able to back up partition or something but either way nice HTC is becoming a motorola nice

HTC isn't "becoming a Motorola". HTC, is completely different. We do have a locked bootloader. But it's easily unlock-able whereas Moto's aren't.
Its still not accepting the soff root which i am baffled at and with a broken recovery i need to know what to do now. Recovery just shows pc-cell logo

I don't know what to tell you. There are several threads out there regarding how to root your phone. Both in a .gfree form and a root.sh form. One of those 2 work for 99.9% of EVERYONE.
You might try finding someone who put together a .zip that can be flashed through the android recovery(white screen with boot options, etc.). Otherwise you can get the RUU and return to stock. After that follow the directions step by step and DO NOT mix methods. This should result in an S-OFF root, if you did your homework correctly.

As someone already explained before, when the security is on, no matter the amount of flashing you're going to try - it won't get you anywhere, since it won't be written to the actual ROM, and will be gone on restart.
Unless you pick a guide, follow it exactly, and post here everything that doesn't look proper - I don't think the forum can help you much.
Here's one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Follow it and post anything that doesn't look good. Including your bootloader version.
The root is sticking on reboots but still no soff that's what i have been saying and i followed the guides to a t its not my first picnic rooting or roming a phone this one just has me stumped
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
What does your bootloader show when you boot into it?
For the root to stick after boot, you had to have S-OFF, otherwise the eMMC wouldn't have been written to.
Having no info from you, as I said, it's impossible to help. If all this thread is just a complaint - by all means, but in that case there's no point in helping you. If you want help - you need to provide enough details for people to help you. Obviously, nobody can figure out anything from "I can't get s-off".
I do a adb reboot bootloader and i get us fast boot up top it says s-on but if i reboot to the os i still have root access for instance in titanium backup or Rom manager of that helps any

Strange Root Issue

When I saw the port for ICS come out I got really excited and flashed it right away. Then I realized for whatever reason I didnt have SU permissions so I couldn't tether to my computer. I was disappointed but I thought, "no biggie, I'll just restore from my back up." When I flashed my back up the SU app was in my app drawer but I still couldn't tether. As a matter of fact I can't do anything that requires SU but the bootloader still reads unlocked. WTF?
I can't flash a new recovery either. I tried installing from ROM manager, I tried pushing it from my computer but I can't get to the recovery any more. ROM manager says that I have CWM 5.0.2.0 currently installed but I can't get to it at all. Again, WTF?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
^clearly the phone is working perfectly fine with the stock ROM from the back up but obviously I want my SU back.
Root your phone and read the development thread versus making blog posts.

Thanks for not answering my questions. The bootloader is unlocked but I don't have root and I don't have access to recovery mode even tho ROM Manager says I have Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.0 currently installed. I cannot access the recovery mode AT ALL. I cannot flash or push a new recovery but it fully boots into Gingerbread w/o any issues. What is wrong with my phone and how do I fix it.

Try from rom manager to reinstall a previous recovery version.

That doesn't work either. It goes through the prompts but it doesn't actually reboot do the installation.
I just tried unrooting and then re - rooting but that didn't work and I think that actually wiped my phone completely. I don't even know where an SD card would get into this thing.

Is that the right name of the recovery img? Try renaming it to just recovery and see if that works.
Edit: make sure your phone is in debugging mode. And uninstall then reinstall the drivers on your computer

manually go into recovery with volume down and power flash the su.zip and u should be good to go that wat I did

No suggestions have worked so far. It does not matter what the recovery image name is, whenever I try the flash it Terminal says that it cannot load "***.img" or if I try an install command it says that it cannot find "***.zip" I'm on a snow leopard iMac so I don't need drivers n such.
Let me pose the question like this, what would I do to completely restore the phone to factory condition and try to root it again? Like I said before, the bootloader says that it is unlocked but I do not have any root privileges, could not access the recovery I had before nor install a new recovery after having locked the unlocked the phone's bootloader again.

go to the link above and follow the directions for returning to stock.
find yourself a one-click root method on XDA that includes superuser, busybox, and CWM.
EDIT: Also, double check the md5 sum for the CWM .zip. use
Code:
md5 recovery-aaaaaa.img
in the terminal and make sure the output matches whatever is given on the CWM site. if they dont have one up, ask for it
NS4g one-click root app:

this will:
unlock the bootloader
install cwm 5.0.2.0
root
No commands, no messing with pushing files manually, etc. This thing has already saved me from major headaches while restoring my phone once and I've only had it for 3 weeks lol

SingleClickRoot Error Droid X

I am attempting to root my droid x using MOTOROLA GINGERBREAD 2.3.4 ONE-CLICK ROOT, using psouza4 ran the tool normally and got,
ERROR: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method
Try again from the start, but if the problem continues, check your version
of Gingerbread -- hopefully you don't have a version where this exploit
was fixed.
So them I tried the Droid X Notes and got
rm failed for /system/bin/su, read only file system so I changed the properties removing read only rebooted my machine and I still get the same errors for both. Any ideas? Does this root no longer work? Anyone have one that does?
Unfortunately, that method does not work with 2.3.4 (Droid X System Version .621.).
Use this instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823112.

Okay, so after it uploaded CG66 it said waiting for device and my phone is in bootloader. I dont know what to do now, can you please help me my phone wont even boot up.
on some phones the reboot command does not work
disconnect usb cable, pull battery, wait 10 secs, replace battery, reboot phone, wait for it to completely reboot, reconnect usb cable, wait for program to continue, if it does not continue, restart program
if phone will not boot normally, verify you are using correct file and options
(not d2 4.5.621), may have to use sbf option
if it boots ok, first time, without usb connected, but reboots to bootloader 2nd time, repeat first steps

Used magic md5 root. Booted image from USB Flash Drive stick. Worked 1st time. Very appreciative for the hard work put into this.
I just purchased a new Droid X several days ago and did not think it would be this difficult to find a way to root the phone. I really like this phone and even more now that it's rooted. Bye-bye bloatware!

Phone reboots into TWRP

well I have been having problems on how to do unlock my phone using a Mac, but I was finally able to unlock it and flash TWRP recovery by using mattlgroff's utility 1.20 now the I have installed TWRP recovery, every time I connect my phone to the Mac it asks me superuser permission for AdB shell I grant permission and it says "Adb shell has been granted permission" and it reboots into TWRP recovery. I even denied superuser permission but it still does the same thing. I have USB debugging on.
is this normal? because I need to transfer some files to my phone so I can Flash a Rom through TWRP. I would really appreciate your help. thanks.
here's a picture attached showing what it says as soon as I connect the phone to computer.
after that it just reboots into TWRP.
