Hi does anybody know anything about the progress of porting windows phone 8 to the hd2? I know its not out yet but I'm wondering if its going to be as easy to put wp7 on.

windows 8 hang about - Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango" hasnt officially been released yet has it?
not sure what people make of this though.. taken from appleinsider.com
In its first significant update, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform is introducing a new layer of app version complexity for developers and users that offers a glimpse of how both it and Windows 8 will differ from Apple's existing iOS and Mac App Stores.
Windows Phone "Mango" 7.5 introduces new features for Microsoft's smartphone platform, but developers won't be able to simply offer an update to their apps to take advantage what's new in the same model that Apple's iOS app developers have over the past four versions of Apple's mobile OS.
Instead, Microsoft asks developers to distribute two different versions of their apps: the existing 7.0 version for existing phones, and a second 7.5 version for new phones and devices that can install the update once it becomes available through mobile carriers. Developers are encouraged to upload a 7.5 version by the end of October.
"Knowing that on average people update their apps every three to four months," the Windows Phone Developer Blog states, "this October timeframe provides assurance that you that you can submit 7.5 apps today and still have access to your 7.0 app well before the next update is required."
Once a 7.5 version app is published in the App Hub market, developers won't be able to fix bugs or add features to their existing 7.0 version. However, existing phone users also won't be able to run the new 7.5 version, as each major build of Windows Phone is tied to a matching app version. The WP7 market will display a list of app types for the users to select between, and users upgrading to 7.5 Mango will get updates telling them to download the new version of each app as it becomes available.
In January, Canonical teased a version of the Ubuntu software for Galaxy Nexus smartphones would be released sometime in February.
The new operating system was announced just before CES, revealing Canonical's intent to bring the full range of desktop capabilities to compatible smartphones.
Canonical has primarily used the Galaxy Nexus as its test device thus far, and it wasn't that shocking to learn a developer version of Ubuntu would be handed out so soon.
However, the developer just revealed a version of Ubuntu for Nexus 4 would arrive with the Galaxy Nexus edition, which comes as a bit of a nice surprise.
Preview of promise
Set to arrive on Feb. 21, the touch developer preview of Ubuntu for both Nexus smartphones will provide images and open source code for more savvy users to mess around with while they wait for a completed version.
The idea is to give Ubuntu enthusiasts and developers a chance to see what the OS has to offer, and give an early lead on potential app creation for the smartphone software.
Canonical will also release tools to help users flash their existing devices to the developer preview, which would allow them to stay up to date with the most current version.
Attendees of Mobile World Congress can bring their Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 smartphones to the Canonical booth, where the developer will flash the devices themselves.
Additionally at MWC, Canonical will have a variety of Ubuntu devices on display (including a possible tablet), though the actual proprietary phones aren't expected to arrive until October.
"Our platform supports a wide range of screen sizes and resolutions. Developers who have experience bringing up phone environments will find it relatively easy to port Ubuntu to current handsets," said Canonical's Pat McGowan in a statement.
"We look forward to adding support for additional devices for everyday testing and experimentation."
The group has also created downloadable app design guidelines, giving potential developers the power to create for the full range of Ubuntu platforms.
Though iOS and Android have dominated the market thus far, there's plenty of room for a possible third option as Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 have yet to assert themselves in the marketplace.
Whether that OS is Ubutnu will largely depend on how quickly and easily users are able to assimilate the open source software.

Hello,
I recently came across this "LOW-COST-ULTRA-POWERFUL(LCUP)" device.
I immediately started looking for an Ubuntu Mobile OS port for this device.
Unfortunately there seems to be none, then i came across this
https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/start/ubuntu-for-devices/porting-new-device/
Would love to see somebody adopt this project and give us a Dual-Boot YU.
I am sure the Ubuntu community would be thrilled to assist you and add another device to their compatibility list.
With its 9K($140) price point and an ubuntu port, Canonical couldn't be asking for a better device to showcase their OS given that this device is still sold out within seconds of its sale window.
CANONICAL SHOULD THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY !!!
RATIONALE :
Officially adding support to this device besides the nexus, wouldn't be a bad idea for canonical, as given its never tiring run at the sales window every week(which lasts only seconds on Amazon, India.) it could soon surpass the nexus device counts.
Besides and MORE IMPORTANTLY i would be more comfortable fidgeting with a device that is $ 140 as against the nexus lineup which is upwards of $350.
THE COROLLARY :
Officially supporting it means no-bugs, no-bugs means people(MOBILE MECHANICS) in India can setup shop and earn out of Ubuntu installations(with Dual-Booting Android) which will translate to a free market to Canonical to lay base for its OS.
India cannot be ignored, given the numbers that we are, success stories get written overnight. Case in point being the maker of this device 'MICROMAX' itself.
BIGGEST OPPORTUNITY :
MICROMAX'S POORER-THAN-POOR SUPPORT COULD BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO OTHERS(Canonical & UBUNTU in this case) , INSTEAD OF LAYING TO WASTE A HARDWARE AS GOOD AS THIS.
A STABLE(OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED) 'UBUNTU MOBILE OS' SHOULD ENCOURAGE USERS TO LOOK AT UBUNTU MOBILE OS AS A REPRIEVE AS AGAINST MICROMAX'S POORER-THAN-POOR SUPPORT SYSTEM.
CONCLUSION(COROLLARY) :
MORE DEVICES means KICK STARTING THE UBUNTU MOBILE OS ecosystem.
AN ACTIVE ECOSYSTEM means MORE OEM'S SEEING VIABILITY IN THE 'UBUNTU MOBILE OS PROJECT'.
PS: Poll added for a reality check of the viability of this request.
thanks,
wrong location of the thread buddy.
and with lollipop on the horizon, the whole project would have to be rebased soon enough. so will have to wait anyway.

There are many reasons why free and open source software is great. It allows someone to take a project and evolve it into something else that they see fit. Naturally, they have to follow the proper licenses that come with those projects, but when done right we can get software projects like /e/. /e/ is a fork of LineageOS that aims to be completely free of everything Google. Not only that, but there are a number of goals the developer has in mind for /e/ that more people feel are vital to a mobile operating system. This week it has been announced that the first beta of /e/ is now available for a limited number of devices (linked down below).
The original idea of /e/ came from Gaël Duval, an open source advocate, last year when he wrote a series of articles titled “Leaving Apple & Google. . .” It was in this series of articles when he announced that a new smartphone OS was currently being planned. The new mobile operating system had three goals including:
Be free from Google (no Google services, no Google search, no Google Play store, etc.)
Be far more respectful of user’s data privacy
Be attractive enough so that Mom and Dad, children and friends would enjoy using it even if they aren’t technophiles or geeks
It’s been a year and now the first beta of /e/ is available to the public. As mentioned, /e/ is a Google-free fork of LineageOS with this first beta being based on version 14.1. The ROM comes bundled with microG by default with the Mozilla Network Location Provider backend so location functionality will work even without GPS. The mail app is forked from K9 mail, the SMS app is Signal, the default chat app is Telegram (or you can use Signal), there’s a weather app, a note-taking app, a tasks app, and a map app (that, unfortunately, isn’t open source yet.) The account manager allows you to choose a single /e/ account for all services. The search engine is a fork of Searx, but Qwant and DuckDuckGo are available alternatives in the default browser (LineageOS’ Jelly.)
Depending on the addition of more build servers and more contributors who can maintain or port to specific devices, they are hoping to see the list of supported devices grow. Speaking of, here is the official list of devices that can test out this first beta of /e/ right now.

There is micro G which worls alternative to google services. So all your apps runs without google services. This rom is google free rom.
I am not able to import contacts from the SIM option does not stop
I don't get why this is becoming a big thing, it's just LOS with microG. There are already automatic builds found at https://lineage.microg.org which are the exact same thing, but directly built from LOS roms. Maybe the difference is that there are different system apps?
Question 1
Could you check your devices and tell me how many twin apps are available for activation in the relative menu of settings?
I have only one app available (whatsapp) and nothing else.
In older times and before update(s) I can recall at least four.
Question 2
Is there any way to make available for cloning more apps?
I strongly prefer the official way (twin app) than other method but if not possible then anything is welcomed
NOTE. My P10+ is not rooted and available HOWTOs are obsolete and non functional
Thanks
