Hi! I Love ( D ) my TD2... to bad my touch screen broke already (2 months after purchase) without dropping it or whatever.. Screen and phone works normal.
Im just curious if there are other people having this problem jet?
Do you guys think im f*ck'd? or does htc replace touchscreens within warranty?
if not; Does anybody know what the costs may be for replacing a touchscreen? And is it possible to replace only the touchscreen or must the whole screen be replaced?
A lot of questions , i know.. hope someone can give me answers.
Thank you!
new screen
see here, a similar discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537654
if the screen broke and it was not your fault, warranty should cover that ... it seems that buying a new screen and putting it is easy ...
thnx for reply georgeono! guess i'll try warranty first.
same here...touch screen cannot sense any form of touch
Hm.. to bad man. when i put my phone under a bright lamp or in the sun i can see some kind of liquid under the screen(so i know its definitely broke..), same at yours? did you contact warranty jet?
i guess the screen is just not that strong, cause i have treated this phone much much better then my old htc touch and that touchscreen is still working..
my batt went flat...
I go home and charge it..
before full charge, I sms and it is not working anymore..
Soft reset or hard reset no use..
Next day, I see the "liquid" screen under sunlight...
I also take care of it well as this is my first pda and most expensive hp i ever bought...
Going to sent in on this coming thursday...
How about ur warranty, void or consider under warranty??
havent found time jet to send it in but i'll send it tomorrow so i'll let you know. .
I have had the same problem. I sent it back last Friday and have had notification on Monday that it arrived at HTC, but the tracking details they gave me don't seem to do anything. They say it'll be 5 to 10 working days before I get it back.
The engineer on the phone pretty much straight away described the problem as 'LCD Leak' and that was also stated on the postage label they sent through to me.
I found a short term fix for the problem before i sent it off: When you see the touch screen has the patch of liquid inside, use a piece of sellotape or other sticky tape and gently pull the touchscreen outwards away from the phone and it becomes usable again as long as no fluid is touching the screen any longer.
Hope this makes sense.
edit: I got my phone back and the same problem was still occurring - it looked like they had simply take taken the screen off and put it back on again. It has gone back again, but hopefully this time they will actually look at it.
hm i tried your fix but it didnt work for me ..thnx for the tip anyway!
Same like here I think:

I had to sent it back for a repair. Right now my repaired phone starts to get the problem again

i had the same problem and i can tell you this is caused by too much pressure on the screen. it seems the screen does fall into the phonecase and therefore free itself from the glass. take care with that phone in the pocket!! also the manual says, take out the phone of the pocket when you sit down!! i was shocked when i read that... i mean.. wtf.. what is the idea of a mobile phone which you cant have in your pocket???
haha , and they used to call it a pocket pc! too bad i havent read the manual BEFORE i bought this fragile peace of sh..

Your just a very unlucky man...
I really love my TD2 and it's working as it should be.
I do not use a case and have it just "naked" in my pocket (without keys and other stuff in my pocket) and its no problem, no scratch...
And i don't call it fragile, ok... it can break easier than a rock in your pockey but still..... I don't know how your TD2 is but mine cant bend a 1/2 mm, it's pretty though.
Phone fixed.... For now
I have received my phone back after a second trip back to HTC and it appears that they have replaced the whole frontage of the phone as a tiny scuff on the metal bit and a miniscule scratch on the screen have gone. The internals of the phone are the same as it has the same serial number and IMEI number.
Its all working so far, I've had no evidence of the fluid in the screen as yet and hope not to again!
Send it back and it will be mended eventually!
Had a similar problem, after 20 days the display broke (not on the surface but under it) because of...who knows, maybe direct sunlight since it was on the seat of my car.
Now, after reading the post, I see it's not a singular problem but also other lucky customers are dealing with it.
The real problem is HTC service. I contacted HTC Italy and they told me to take the PDA to a collection point along with a letter describing what happened since I asked for the warranty cover. After 20 days they told me I have to pay 126€ to repair my D2 because the service decided that it was due to my manomission (aka : you have lied to us). After some enraged mails I sent to them, they replied me I should contact HTC in UK to have the warranty. I decided to pay to have my phone back quickly but until yesterday no answer.
Today I sent another email and HTC replied telling me that the service center is closed for holidays until 24th...
I let you imagine how disappointed I am with HTC and they call it HTC Service Excellence.
Ok, it was my fault...I knew I had to buy the spare part on my own and change the LCD but I trusted the HTC name...big big big mistake!
Just consider those experiences in case you think to send your phone back to HTC service...I will never do this again!
Thank you guys, now I know for sure it was not my fault.
I have my TD2 now 3 month and I recognize the problem others mention. Although this problem is a fault, the system is not broken.
When the phone blocks, look for the "liquid" below the screen. It can be very small to fingertip size. The screen is not broken but the touch screen sticks to the display screen. It occurs by applying some force while using the touch screen. Of course this should not happen but it locks the phone or results in unpredictable touch inputs. IT IS NOT BROKEN.
It can be easily solved. Just wipe, with some pressure, with your thumb over the touch screen starting from well below till above the affected area. The touch screen detaches from the display screen and everything works again.
The solution would be a mod by HTC to prevent the two screen from sticking together.
I hope this helps by preventing people to send their phone back and foreward unnescessary.
Just send in my TD2 today for the same reason. Hope they wont simply "lift the surface up" and send it back to me.
repaired!
i had to wait a long time, but i got a message today that the phone is repaired within the warranty by an external repair service. Hopefully the problem is solved now, but im very glad to hear its not gonna cost me 200 euro's or so!
for the dutch : ondanks alle slechte verhalen over dynafix (volgens mij de gebruikelijke repair service voor een htc telefoon in nederland) is het toestel gewoon gerepareerd zonder onzin over drukschade etc. !
update
got my phone back yesterday , in fact they replaced my old phone with a brand new one! Totally free of costs. So i'm a total htc fan again!

Are you sure it's new? I thought they replaced mine as well (after a LOT of phone calls and hassle), but the serial number is still the same.
The counters had been reset, so at first I thought it was a brand new one...
My HD2 has been awesome so far, but it recently got a little bit chilly outside, and I live in Ottawa in Canada, so this is a pretty pressing concern. When the phone is being used outside, it seems like the cold weather causes the screen to go a little bit wonky.
When i'm texting, sometimes it won't register my fingers pressing the screen, or it will think that im HOLDING down the button. This wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't live in Canada and winter is coming, but it is and I do. Any help or knowledge in the matter would really be appreciated.
I bought the phone off of Ebay so i'm not sure if it has any sort of warranty on it, Is there any way of telling what revision of screen the phone has? Can i buy a new LCD/Digitizer/whatever on Ebay to fix the problem?
P.S. I searched for cold and screen and LCD but i couldn't find anything relevant to my question. If I missed something, sorry!
Heres a couple things you can try- If you have a screen protector on the phone, remove it and replace it with a new one. I have found that even with a good fitting screen protector, dirt and such can still get under it and cause mispresses. Not relevant to the cold I know, but still something to try. Now, does the device work well under room tempreature conditions? Third, to see what revision you have, check these out: Is your device T-Mobile branded? Under your battery cover, what color is your reset button-yellow or red?
It is tmous with a yellow reset button. It works great inside at room temps. Something to mention is that it does this in Android, not sure if it does in winmo cause I only thought to compare today, but its pretty warm today. HTC said that its still.covered by warranty but is one rather not send it in as is have to pay shipping etc.

Oooh. In android. Your not alone. This happened to my first hd2 with android. I get off the train after a 3 day ride to seattle, then Bam! freaky screen. It froze and usually when the screen turns off, its back. Well, after 20 minutes i hit the reset. The screen never unfroze and i got tmobile to send me a new one. Now i get the new one. Outside? Same thing! I use bangsters with the evo kernel and it does it a LOT less vs. default kernel. If i use gps with the default bangsters kernal, its frozen. period.
Try a different kernel, different build, new radio (?), or even a new windows mobile build.
I am fairly certain, sending it in won't do any good. Your going to be without a phone for a week or more and when you do get it back, same issue. If you know your going to be outside all day and need a working phone, stay in windows mobile. I will bet my life that win mobile will work flawlessly.
I was so exited with the nand flashing that I flashed from WM 6.5 to diferend Android roms to WM7 back to android and now my touch screen is not responsive any mores.
Can this be because of nand flashing or is my phone just broken???
Hi,
This has been reported by a few people. It appears to be just a hardware issue and nothing to do with flashing Android.
Some have reported just part of (the bottom part) the screen becoming insensitive. For some it only happens sporadically, for others it is a permanent problem.
I undertsand repairs can be made to the phone, or if you are still within the warranty period... return it once you have removed evidence of your flashing etc.
Good luck
I read some where to downgrade the radio, any info on that??
I haven't read anything about that.
Here are some links of HD2 owners reporting similar problems:

Same thing happened to me, I think its just a coincident. Flashing the radio didn't help. Its on its way back to HTC now. Best posting in the thread below, keep it all in the same place for other users. If the list keeps growing there could be a problem??

from Amazon
i'll let u guys know how i did. wish me luck.
Another one for the list - upgrade to Android NAND a few weeks ago . Now the screen is completely not working . Tried several methods ie. Press hard at buttons, etc sometimes OK but now Completely unresponsive. What make it worse is that out of warranty ( bought Aug 2009 ).
How many HD2 have touchscreen problem after Android NAND upgrade ????
seems to be an android issue than anything. could the android color density have anything to do with it?

Just got off the phone with t-mobile and they're replacing my phone which has the same issues.
According to the service tech I spoke to, this is starting to happen to HD2's more frequently (including his own). I'm wondering if Android and the increasing number of people putting Android on their phones has anything to do with it. The service tech I spoke to sounded pretty young, and it wouldn't suprised me if he's tweaked his phone too.
My HD2 gets really hot when using Android....particularly when its booting. Excessive heat wreaks all sorts of havoc on electrical systems/devices, and it wouldn't suprise me if the heat is causing damage to the digitizer (ie melting contact points)
The metal backing and rubber case don't help either.
I'm under warranty so it's not too big of a deal for me, other than the inconvenience. Looks like I'll have to bust out the old iPhone 2g for a week!
I hear ya...
Both on android SD and NAND, i did feel that the phone runs a bit warmer than on winmo. I'm not an expert in android or anything, but does the 16M color on android has something to do with it? I don't know if it's a graphics driver issue or hardware, but something tells me the HD2's stock capacitive screen couldn't handle that much color cramming down it's pipeline.
Hardware issue
I am almost sure that it is a hardware issue because I took a heat gun on low to the front my hd2 (closer to the ADC or "digitzer") around the corner where the red or yellow on/off button is and it fixed the problem for about 4 days till a went to a concert and left the phone in my pocket while I danced and it stopped working again... decided to just give up and got a new one through asurion insurance

The HD2's screen was designed to handle 16M color...the HD2 was designed under the presumption that it would be upgradable to WP7.
I think what's causing a lot of issues are the hacked drivers (including the graphics drivers) needed to run the Android ports. They don't run as efficiently as the stock drivers, consume more battery, and in turn generate more heat.
yup, I totally agree. it's certainly one of the risks of running non-native drivers.
My touch screen started to play up last week - wouldnt unlock via the slider on a flashed Android rom. Reflashed the phone thinking it would cure it, but it didn't. Reformatted the card, and then flashed a different Android rom. Worked for a few minutes, then stuck. Reflashed a WM rom, and the touch screen gave up altogether. Left it a day, and it worked, but when I switched the phone off, and back on, it wouldn't.
Phone was 2 days outside of the Tmobile warranty, but I've sent it back to them as the HTC phones in Europe are covered by a two year warranty....
I have nothing to lose anyway!
mine to, had to hard reset 4 times. then i hard reset did not touch the screen until the next morning and it seems to have fixed it
same problem, after flash android nand,2 week ago,now touch screen is broken
its been 4 months i am going through this this problem. Heating the screen is the best solution. But i founf WM rom which likely is fixing the problem. It happens because of andriod and i am pretty sure about it as i have done thousands of experiments on it. Now in background i run that WM rom and then andriod and never faced any problem.
HD2 touch screen not responding
I am using HTC HD2 since last 1 year..Its out of warranty right now & I recently flashed "ANDROI_PPC-SHIFTPDA_GingerBread_2.3.2_WP7S_V1_NAND_(07.Feb)" & it was all working fine unless yesterday when my 7 months old labrador chew the top right corner of my phone while it was in d cover..Got a slight crack in the glas/lcd..However it is still functional..I mean no color spill or abnormal behaviour in terms of display..except the touch screen has stopped working now..I've tried hard reset..soft reset several times but it doesn't seem to be working...Its driving me insane & I dont know what to do as my phone is out of warrranty...I remember I had a TyTN II 2-3 years ago & got its lcd split/broken somehows & HTC service center charged me INR 4000 / USD $88 to replace it...Though times have changed & HD2 definitely is a much complex device comparatively..So would cost me much more if i give it to them...Just went thru a video on youtube "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdihThJFyz4" in which tutorial for HTC leo's screen & digitizer replacement is mentioned. Im really not sure where the problem lies. Because it was perfectly fine till yesterday before i woke up this morning & realized that my dog has done a lil munching on my HD2..Any suggestions ???
I'm glad to hear that it's not just my phone...
I upgraded to nand aswell and it worked perfectly ever since the first android upgrades came out.. Then about a week ago my screen started messing with me.. Sometimes the lockscreen didn't respond at all, and then it would require like 3-4 reboots before it did? Suddenly one day it stopped working, I did a hard reset and it worked for half a day. Now it's totally nonresponding and I'm going to send it to the repaircenter.... I asked them if messing with the software was a problem, but he said that it didn't matter and that I shouldn't bother to reset the software.. It didn't void the warranty in any way.
Hey guys...
So, I have my Desire Z since about 4 weeks and nothing went wrong with it.
Really NOTHING bad happened, it didn't fall on the floor, didn't fall into water, etc etc.
So this afternoon I unlocked it and suddenly I got a blank grey screen.(worked perfect in the morning) The phone did react to my power up/on button, but I couldn't see what I was doing. Also the touchscreen worked, because I could unlock it (I heard the unlock noise) but I only get a blank grey screen.
I tried Bootloader and Battery pull. Also I took out my SD/SIM/Battery and just blow through the whole phone but nothing want to happen:-(
By the way, my phone is fully rooted and running on Cyanogenmod7 since 5 days. Everything worked perfect until this afternoon...
EDIT:
Looks just like this http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f368/forthcomingtangent/DSCI1196.jpg
C'mon guys:-(
So is it grey from bootup till it gets to the rom or can you see your boot splash screen and whatnot?

Yes, when I boot it up it's grey, I notice that it's still working because I get the bootup noise. So I can see nothing. But what I noticed is that the grey screen gets a kinda bluegrey screen while the cyanogenmod7 boot animation(the loop)
Sounds like a hardware issue to me, I'd send it in for warranty if I could. Plus, with your screen being the issue I doubt they would check for something like S-off or anything like that
sounds to me like the ribbon cable for the screen has either broken or not placed in its socket properly, does it make a difference when the keyboard is open? try opening it and closing it a few times... watch the screen. otherwise it could be a fault with the screen board or the screen itself
i would try and claim off warrenty or insurance
No it does no difference when the keybaord is open:-(
Problem at the whole thing is, that I have no warranty because I bought it at amazon.com
you either have to see how much htc will charge to repair it, or take it apart yourself and just check the cables... if any are loose then refit them... or buy a new screen, vga board and ribbon cable and fit it
How much would the last option cost?
And how much do you guys think HTC will chare to repair it?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OEM-SLIDE-FLE...944?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a10708cb8
something like that if its the ribbon cable.... but that gives you the whole kit
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Touch-Screen-...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2a0fd454a5
thats the digitizer but i dont think youll need that but just in case
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-H...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2eb3f529d0
thats the screen
but in fairness your better off taking it to a repair shop and getting a price... if you havnt got a warrenty then you dont have to worry about loosing one
Wow thanks, you're really helping me.
So I found a warranty document, since I bought it over amazon.com from another seller(mobilejoker) and it says that they'll repair me my device if it is defect and not my fault. But they also charge 40$ if it's an obvious damage made by myself. Well, I don't know, it wasn't my fault right? I mean it's not like it dropped in water or fell on the floor.
looks to me like its the ribbon cable or the vga board for the screen, as long as you havnt dropped it in liquid, on the ground or opened it up then it cant be your fault... id go with the warrenty first before you open it up
Hit the thanks button please matey
Done
And thanks again for your help.
alrite glad i could help, if you get stuck or if the warrenty doesnt work come back
hey guys I'm having a very similar issue on my phone, I bought a screen on ebay from a USA seller, as well as a flex cable cus both were damaged in my phone. I've got both of those installed and the phone boots up, gives off noises and vibrates like his did, but no video. Backlight lights up, but just black. I've been googling a lot and apparently the grey screen is just a precursor to what I have. Where exactly is the VGA board? is it on the main logic board? does it need a reflow like some laptop chipsets?
Hey guys I just thought I give you a quick update.
So I got my device back, it's working perfect and I didn't have to pay anything for it.
I'm just a bit confused, because my phone now is totally unrooted, and I always thought that root hurts your warranty.
Anyways, thanks for your help!!

Either they gave you a new phone or...
They replaced the screen (or samaged parts) and wiped or perhaps upgraded to newest stock.
Do you still have all your info and apps that were previously on it?
What version of android does it show in about, and which hboot do you have now?

Well it's just like it was when I bought it, 2.2.1, only google apps, had to configure sim again no sms, etc.. But my phone is definitely now new because there are my scratches on the back of the phone.

I didn't quite understand your reply, lol sry, but I did see one big clue....2.2.1. Which means you should have no problems rooting again.

I don't have any problems with rooting again, I was just saying that I was confused that I got my device repaired for free, although they unrooted my phone.
I´m so freaked out with my T9193, she stopped working... It has made me so sad, I really love my little jewel...
First I suffered the infamous unresponsive screen issue, but I had it repaired, actually it has a new OEM digitizer and LCD, but there is no output at all: the screen keeps blank (black). You can tell the phone is on because of the bright of the screen, the starting vibration an charging orange light...
I know it works because I Task29 it and flashed original shipped ROM (Telstra´s), and everything went ok as I could see in my laptop.
The main idea was to sell it as parts or very cheap in order to buy an Inspire 4G, but.... well you know what: it is a HD2! and even more, it is a T9193! Bought directly in Australia and shipped to my country... I feel like part of an elite jaja...
So, my question is, what do you think: an Inspire 4G or another T9193?....
Thnx
have you tried entering the bootloader? Maybe you should get it repaired. I suspect something is wrong with the motherboard. Alternatively, it could also be the case that the LCD is not working. I had the exact same problem with my Touch HD last time around. I sent it for repair(it was on warranty) and HTC changed the motherboard. Im sure repairing it is cheaper than getting a new HD2(unless you are going for a used one). Besides, you might wanna consider getting the evo 3d/galaxy s ii instead of the inspire 4g?(its your personal preference...but im just saying...) Hope your phone comes back alive in full glory! I know how it feels when your treasured device is in a coma. I experienced it with my Touch HD and i also experienced it with my HD2 recently, when it spun for 10 mins in the washing machine. But everything is ok and its breathing fire now!
Thanks for your comments kawshigan.
Actually I was able to flash it entering to bootloader (pressing volume down while turning on), but I couldn´t see it on the phone screen, so it seems to be just the LCD....I think...

well,if you were able to flash it,there is a high chance that the motherboard and the flash is working. So,it could be either the LCD or the BUS. But for the latter, if you send it to HTC for repair, they will still replace the whole motherboard regardless of a broken BUS or chipset...its just a way of making money...but if that can revive your HD2, you should go for it
