Since rooting my a500, it has been generally unstable, I've had apps force closing, games locking up the tablet, and occasionally the rom will just reboot. I've done a cache and dalvik cache wipe, as well as a full data reset before flashing the new rom (currently randomblame's jellytime with the godmachine kernel v2.0) the kernel on this is more stable than when I was trying to use the stock rooted ics 1.41 update, but I've just had nothing but problems since rooting. I know that some of this could be the relative newness of the ROM itself, but the stock rom was worse...any suggestions?
Bootloader: 0.03.14 MUL Skrilax_CZ's bootloader V8
Recovery: CWM-v5.5.0 (thor2002ro/digetx rev1.7.3)
ROM: Randomblame Jellytime - the return
KERNEL: godmachine v2.0

I've been using WIP Jelly Bean from here for the past two days. I had one restart of the tablet and occasional crashes in the Gmail app. The unlock graphic sometimes disappears from the screen (apparently a memory leak, restarting the tablet once a day should work as a temporary fix), but it can still be unlocked. Otherwise it's been very stable and fast (overclocked at 1.2GHz). I am using the kernel that came with the ROM. That's my recommendation.
Flah Civato's Re-Flexx ROM ;] don't get anymore stable than that!

Or if i really like jb on ur a500 try civatos jb's rom, the SuperCharger, pretty stable, im using it right now, also one thing that somehow make my tab unstable is the SetCPU app somehow, so i got rid of that no need anyways since u can change those settings within the rom itself.

I just flashed my G2 with this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211143
I'm rooted S-Off, and I just came from bone stock factory 2.2.
I overclocked my phone using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813681
And all worked fine until I flashed the 2.3 ROM.
I adb pushed both .ko files to test them out, and I keep getting this error in my terminal emulator: "insmod: init_module '/data/local/vision_oc.ko' failed (Exec format error)" I'm running the command as su, obviously. I don't see why flashing a new ROM would effect my ability to overclock without replacing the stock kernels...
You're trying to put a kernel on there made for the 2.2 ROM.
You're running a 2.3 ROM. Right now there are no custom kernels to overclock that ROM that don't also break other things on the phone.
If you want 2.3.4+ and overclocking, look into one of the other custom ROMs made from AOSP (like CM7) that come with custom overclockable kernels from the start, or have overclockable kernels available for them.
So is CM7 stable for the G2? Meaning that everything works (WiFi, GPS, video playback, etc.)?
Because right now this bone stock 2.3 ROM I'm running is seamless, I'm not really a tinkerer, I just want things to work.

CM7 is extremely stable. Its been in a stable state for a long long long time. And has more features than stock with better performance and battery use. I flash nightlies and its more stable than some ROMs out there.
Just make a nandroid backup of your current ROM. You can always go back...
What about g-lite?

+1 for glite. Pretty much stock with an Oc daemon. I love the awesome battery life as well

yea I've been meaning to try it got the stock prerooted now, just have to get tired of it lol.
you can use setcpu and set 8X55 can use 1ghz
You can also use cm7 with the stock kernel and OC your phone to 1ghz easily.
Cm7 is very stable btw - ive found nothing which is not working.

I've been waiting to receive my replacement Iconia before doing any hardcore modding and I got it yesterday "shiny XD". I was originally going to install the rooted 3.2 update with richardtrips kernel but have decided I want to hang back on 3.1 for a while longer and enjoy it until 3.2 gets a proper root method.
Which kernel would work fine with rooted stock 3.1? I prefer Richardtrips kernel but will use thors if it's the better option I just need to know which version runs on stock 3.1
Also do I have to wipe data and cache when flashing a kernel? This will be a first as my DX has the locked bootloader so i never got to flash a kernel.
I'm using richardtrip's kernel 2.5 with stock 3.1 ROM, and it's working fine with no issues.

Thanks for the reply .
2.5 some issues.
I was using richardtrip 2.5 kernel, and had some issues but nothing to worry about. If you use HDMI it wont restore when screen goes off. But it's just a matter of unpluging and repluging again the microhdmi.
As far as i know he haven't done an update to the 3.1 kernels, so must assume he is now focus on 3.2 kernels.
thanks for the tip, I flashed the 2.5 kernel and all is well.
I'm using honeyvillan. It has a 3.2 kernel

are there any ROMs for A501 ?
the stock is horrible specially after updating to 3.2 which is an Ad oriented version.
Sent from my A501 using XDA App
The ads are probably from your wireless provider. 3.2 on the wifi version doesn't have ads.
yup tabonay for example
Sent from my A501 using Tapatalk
Honeyvillain (honeycomb 3.2), Lightspeed, is another. But with lightspeed, you have to run a patch for your internal 3g.
If you want something a little less "cooked" Harkon 1.0, with Thor 3.9R3 kernel. It's what I run.
You can get the kernel at www.tegraowners.com
Basically you want a rom based on the 501, which unfortunately is not as popular as the 500. Reason being, the 500 is cheaper, and was introduced before the 501, so there were more roms produced based on it.
I downgraded to 3.1, rooted 1.3 & flashed CWM. Then I ran CWM & wiped everything so I booted fresh but with A500 ROM, probably cause the downgrade image is for A500. So now my 3G is not recognized.
What is a good A501 ROM with workable 3G ?
Look at the above post....
If you run an A500 based rom, more than likely the build.prop is modified for WiFi-only. If you feel gutsy, you can try and modify it, but will depend on if they modified the Framework or other sys apk's.
Stay with the A501 based roms. A lot of these, are based on the A500, which you DO NOT need.
Taboonay, Honeyvillain(honeybread) (or whatever it's called now, as he seems to be fixed on Honey), Harkon, and Lightspeed (although you may need the patch to run it.
Always get the "rooted" version of any rom.
If you look at my previous post, you can run Harkon, which is a rooted HC 3.2 with a cooked kernel. And after flashing and starting, you can reboot and run Thors 3.9R3 kernel. Do a wipe on your delvik before flashing kernels.
I flashed Honeyvillain & now stuck at boot with 'acer' logo

Let it run for awhile (15 minutes)
If it doesn't boot. then go into Recovery.
Do your 3 wipes, User Data partition
then Cache partition
then goto advanced, and wipe delvik
Then, make sure you selected to "install from SD" a "rom", and not the "kernel", Im betting you downloaded and just flashed the Kernel.
People do this at first with the Honey. He has 2 or 3 listed. Roms and Kernels. So you have to download the ROM and not the kernel.
Suggest you first try with the Harkon Rom.

True. I downloaded the kernel indeed. Seems a common mistake. Now I am dowloading Harkon. Very slow link but will see at the end.

Glad it's working for you
Harkon itself is not a fully cooked rom, although it comes with a cooked kernel. You can overclock the processor using the included app. cpumaster I think is the name. Just remember to run it at different speeds and compare speed vs battery life. Usually you're ok at 1.4 but things might get a little wonky when you run higher. Depends on the processor. Mine is fine at 1.5.
Hello everybody...
When i got the pjone i updated to the latest official update (28.12.11), I was having some problems so i downgraded using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728, and than i found out about oxygen rom, and wanted to flash it.
Downloaded the lates version for huawei ideos x5 (2.3.2), wiped cache and flashed it using CWM, but got stuck on the Oxygen logo. I installed 2.2.2 again and than i read here that wiping everything should solve the problem, so i tried again, but this time wiped everything before flashing but this time it didnt even get to the oxygen logo?
Does anyone knows what might be the problem?
Go to official 2.2. Then install oxygen.

Which recovery are you using? You must use genos 4.0.05 or stockwells 5.0.2.6.
5.0.2.7 from geno and 5.5.0.4 from Blefish wont work with 2.2 because they are made for 2.3
i was using blefish 5.5.0.4, noob mistake i guess. i will try with new recovery.
Use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130524 or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288223&highlight=5+0+2+6 both should work fine
Do you really offer using this oxygen rom to a miui rom user? Are there too many advantages at this rom?
Yann, it worked lile a charm, thank you very much. The rom is running smoothly.
I never used any other custom rom, but comared to the official roms this one is a lot smoother and less buggy.
Im new here, should i close the thread?

only one more question... when i go to systems it says i only have 300 something of ram, shouldnt it be 512?
I think it depends how many apps you have installed in phone memory, move some apps to SD and check if get more ram free.
I think that some RAM is reserved for system and GPU. This is why it only showes 300MB
Hello
I just wanted to say I bought this device two days ago and I am so very happy with it.
I had a Xperia Pro and a Galaxy S but decided to go "big"
And I am glad I did.
The only small downside is that it seems to be so hard to root this one. I have not found any easy way as with for example Xperia Pro.
I am very pleased with the stock rom but I really need to get those bloatware out...but I dont want to flash a rom just to get root.
Well anyway, happy for bying this and I hope it continues to be as fast and nice.
So to others thinking of buying, just do it.....
Welcome to d club!!
Enjoy!!

hey flash speedmod kernel via pc odin and you will have a root access and a yellow triangle, wich can be removed via remove yellow traingle if you are on ics.
ps I recomment kingdroid 4.3 rom and speedmod kernel.
after you got clockworkmod recovery flash abyss 4.2 reboot recovery run jbdroid script flash kingdroid 4.3 rom with cf root kernel after aht flash speedmod k3-7
if you have any question use the search!!!!!!!!!
If u r on ICS, DO NOT DO A FACTORY RESET/WIPE. Note ICS kernwl has a brick bug.
Speedmod kernels and a few other custom kernels have a work around to the bruck bug.
afaik :cyclops:
keep device on gb
ics is risky if you don't want to brick your note than keep it on gb
or follow safe method as prescribed by many dev and user and upgrade it to ics
i have purchased mine yesterday and i will keep it on gb till emmc-bug solution come out :fingers-crossed:
You can root ur Note using the guide here by Dr Ketan @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
As long as you do not perform a factory wipe/reset, ICS is quite good.
I myself have fallen victim to the eMMC brick bug. I got it repaired under warranty. Rooted as per Doc K's guide and flashed SpeedMod kernel. I am on it since about a month now. Running smooth.
Remember always... any time you want to wipe, flash a stock GB rom, perform a wipe and ttgen upgrade to ICS. That is 100% safe. DIRECT WIPE FROM ICS IS 100% DANGEROUS.
Thank you all for so good advices. I am on GB and plan to stay there until a safe version comes from Samsung or any of all excellent developers here.
Oh I am used to search no worries.
Probably I will end up with flashing rom soon. But I feel this phone is magic.
Besides the browser everything is perfect!!

Flash stunner with thor kernel. It's aokp based. No bloatware, no bull****.
Fully costumizable.
You will love it.
It also has tablet mode.
Little getting used to but with this big screen a must have.
Hardbrick issue is gone with this rom.
Good luck

Welcome! I recommend ParanoidAndroid, the hybrid phone/tablet mode is really something. If you dont care for the samsung apps go ahead and flash a custom rom, just make a backup of your original incase you ever need to return your phone
