[Humour][Future] Why my SGS3 doesn't make my coffee? - Galaxy S III General

Why my SGS3 doesn't make my coffee? It sounds like a ridiculous question, right? But hear me out. When Bluetooth came out in 1994 it was said it will change our lives. It was said we would be able to control all appliances in the house by bluetooth. But here we are 18 years later and I have yet to see a single Bluetooth coffee machine. Or is it just me who doesn't look at the right place. What are the coolest gadgets you can control from your SGS3? I know I can control my PC (with Splashtop) but what else? Or what would you like to be able to control with your SGS3?(don't say your wife he he he)
Note: I'm not sure if it should be in the accessories or general section. So...

Is this really necessary?? Why would you want to control things with your phone anyways? Stop being lazy and do it yourself....and p.s you can control your Xbox providing you have one....still a pointless thread though

That is one nice thread!
You are absolutely right about the promises made about bluetooth. However, even although it's 18yo now, how far ago has it become really useable?
Bluetooth 1.0 was a waste of time: limited range and extremely slow transfer rates. Even although we're starting to see BT 4.0 devices, BT 2.1 is the actual widespread standard. That is the standard my car has.
In the car, I can interact with my phone to make phone calls, and all the neat stuff S-Voice allows for.
In my SE W810 there is a built-in app that allows me to use the phone's bluetooth (2.1) to remotely control a PC without the need for any extra software in the PC. That is: the phone works as a bluetooth HID.
That is it, and I only prove your point: BT has failed to keep its promise.
HOWEVER...
... now that Arduino (and other AVRs and MCUs) are becoming so popular and accessible, we are seeing more and more amateur and domestic automation solutions using bluetooth to control anything using a phone. I am one of these Arduino enthusiasts that has lots of ideas (but very little time to implement them) on home automation using Bluetooth or ethernet. Since I am also an android developer, several of my ideas involve marrying the 2 of them through BT: arduino + android controlling home appliances.

My wife promised to buy me a S3 if I gave her a back rub everyday for a week. So see, S3s can already be used by a human to control another human.

After a little more research I found an expresso machine that is android. http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/06/10/android-based-coffee-brewery/
But the coffee machine was just a example. I'm really wondering if there is some other house appliance (lamp, microwave etc..)available yet.

Well Smart home exist since a long time but they are not Android/bluetooth. You need to buy the whole package and build your house with the wires. Bluetooth is different. You can just buy different appliance from different companies and control them with your Android phone.(Well, in theory) Anyway, I guess we are not there yet. I just hope we won't have to wait another 20 years.

I've thought about this too, with things like the ardruino and the raspberry pi out there, you can pretty much do anything you want. It would obviously take some research if you don't have the knowledge yourself. I really want to be able to control my AV amp from my phone, constantly misplacing the remote but I never missplace my phone.
I'd certainly be interested in the lamp project too, will you be posting a tutorial when you complete the project?

G2 overclock competition

As of late I haven't really heard any more news of significant clock speed gains from other higher end phones such as the Droid X/2 or the SGS phones.
From what ive read the X/2 overclocks were overinflated fibs and the OC method used in the SGS phones overstated their true clock speeds. Anything that I have missed?
I watched a competition like this once...
It was done at a dyno shop amongst members from a Nissan car club.
It was all fun and games until someone exploded their 1000hp Skyline engine.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA....

Ahhh, the beauty of trying to sound witty on a forum.
One would never assume the OP graduated with an associate degree in automotive technology in early 09'. Now that I've stepped out of my realm of expertise into this forum and asked a simple question (at least it's not in the dev forum) I would like some serious input if that's alright. Just proud of my phone that's all.
BTW, the correct terminology is detonated, not exploded and it can be caused by any number of issues...my money is on either a boost spike or lifted head.
Seriously not trying to be an ass here, the g2 has gotten some press over this issue lately and its legit unlike the other phones.
Thanks dude.

not that i am against overclocking(this is the first phone i overclocked and i set it to 1 gig) but other than "because i can" why do we need it faster than 1.9? sometimes i like to put my phone to my face to talk on it and i would like to keep from needing skin grafts. do any of our apps really NEED anything more than maybe 1.2?
psx4droid runs great at the higher speeds as long as you keep an eye on the cpu and battery temps. I have the 1800mhz Zimage on my phone right now but I keep it restricted to 1000mhz via setcpu.
Really I see it as about pushing the boundaries for the sake of knowledge, if I could compile my own personal kernel I would but being on the verge of going to pharmacy school and work both keep me too busy to learn how.
This thread isn't really about why one would do it, it was just simply asking how the g2 is fairing against other higher end phones.
I'd love to see something like this as well. Sooner or later, we're going have to start installing heatsinks on to our phones.

man, i like your style!
this is a great idea.. but: plates must be very close to eachother, and it's unuseful if the plates are close to other parts themeselves; don't exceed with the paste: it must be a small quantity that, pressed, it expands itself close the the edges of the component
if it doesn't work, you can clean the paste with some alcool, using a cotton-fioc ( you know, these little cotton-sticks you can use to clean your ears )

no. nanotech can allow both things to happen. It has 3 different "panels". they can close off the panel with the coffee maker so nothing gets in it, and then the shaver can be on top of the keyboard panel, with a small tank like holder so hair doesn't go down to the keyboard.

The story of my X10

I bought the x10 as my first android.
I had very high intentions for it.
But after using it for a few days it was laggy, overheating..
So i figured i should update to the latest firmware and do a full reset.
Loading 2.1 made it only worse..
Then after a grueling 8 months, SE finally replaced the mother board.
You can clearly see by the slightly darkened tint and manufacturing process that this is gona be a good one.
By this point i figured that mabey i was insane and that the hardware was just that weak.
The i loaded CM.. and started applying tweaks i used on my old x10 to improve my phone speed.. "VM_heap = 32, max_actions_per_sec = 30.. you get the idea..
Supreme lord! i love my X10.
And for that i must thank XDA without the friendly help here and innovative idea's.
I must thank all the dev's for taking the initiative and showing SE that freedom shall prevail,
"We will not be bound by your rules, We stand tall we are FFA"
I'm no noob.. i might take a while to really catch on.
But what do you expect from a 27 year old with IQ of 179 and A.D.D.
I love the success and happy stories. I dont see many good ones. Thanks for sharing.

Right..we should thanks all devs here..without them x10 won't become superb..I bought my x10 4 months ago and feel regret at the first time because lack of MT and update..But right now after some tweak and use CM6 as my rom..I love it so much..My friends who has Iphone always admire my x10 screen which has bright, wide screen and with bitsnacker theme..I hope after we got stable custom kernel our x10 become more superb..
It's a good thing you posted your IQ...

Not what i meant. Ie. My iphone dropped calls. It didnt do what a phone was meant for. If you didnt want a phone you shoild get a tablet or an itouch.
A smart phone is a phone not a tablet or computer thats a phone. Its a phone thats a computer (tool as he puts it)as advertised not technically speaking.
A car is not a radio. Cars can have radios installed and removed. My silvia doesnt have a radio. My x10 and iphone make calls and have plans. My itouch does not.

That's fair enough, but I still only use my (phone) for maybe 10% of its use. If I had my way, it would no longer be called a phone or smartphone. Itouches or tablets are too big and don't make calls, therefore no use to me. All I'm saying is that there would be a huge list if things I use my (mobile) for before I'd get to "make phone calls"
but that's just my opinion.

@OP, I guess higher isn't always better. My IQ certainly isn't that high, but I had the lag problem resolved a week after purchasing back in November with root, JIT, and junk apps removed. I guess I was dumb enough to look to others for help. ;-)
However, I do agree that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 V05 and Z's Free X10 definitely took things to the next level. Really looking forward to trying custom Kernel ROMs shortly, and SE official 2.3.3 Gingerbread update in late June/early July.

Cool! But I’m sure Apple will sue anyone who tries to manufacture them!
Since they hold "retina display" patent already, they will certainly try to apply to everything to squeeze as much money as they can.
I like the design, but we already have a big enough problem with texting and driving deaths. The last thing we need is another distraction.

The Massive Phone Held to your Ear

I think it's odd how many people say the Note is too big, or you will look funny holding the phone up to your ear. I make at least 40 calls a day, and I do not use a headset, and not once has anyone said I look funny holding the phone to my ear. Maybe I do look funny, but nobody has ever mentioned it, or even looked at me funny. 40 calls a day? You must be fame...
I live in Colombia and I'm traveling weekly around Latinamerica and here phone operators sell it as a Tablet?? People keeps asking me why I just don't buy a regular phone instead of using the "tablet" as a phone.

If someone doesn't want to get the Note because he or she "will look funny with it" and not because it's too big or any other actual reason - there's something wrong with that person, not the phone. Enough said

My opinion is exactly the same, people are saying different things but I think just because they are jealous.
I don't run one, but I am a busy guy in a big business.

It doesn't matter when it's big enough to satisfy expectations my friend
I agree w. OP. I am a Prof on a 3 campus university. I am always walking around them and the research labs. I have no problems with putting the Note in my front pocket, talking on the phone with it my ear, using it with one hand and of course being able to do email, schedule, find a room number of a meeting - all while on the fly walking w/ or w/o the pen and usually using the dead accurate voice commands and dictation - never get a strange look.
I use the note like a computer and get things done with such less frustration than past phones ( moving between touch, pen and voice and using allot of gesture controls for speed). I am on one campus when a crisis happens on another ( I am a Grad Chair for a Interactive CS school on one campus and Dir of another small program in Cog Sci on another), checking email and voice inputting a reply or room number or person to call - saves me hours of frustration if I had let the problem grow and not made a quick fix or alleviated with a quick email.
The phone is a godsend and the 'it just looks to big for me being on my hip bus in Manhattan with my hipster friends ( hey I grew up in Manhattan) is just stupid press BS which we have to read all the time. Although 5 million of us know better.

Years back, the smallest phone was the trend and if you owns a small expensive phone, you would be the talk of the room! But nowadays, large device/screens are the growing tend. 4.3-4.6 inches screens seems to be the most popular but I think it won't be too long before the majority of people would adopt a 4.8 or 5.5 inches phone!
Thing is we all like to browse websites/check emails/watch photos and videos on the go, and to be able to do this with ease, we need more screen space. The Dell Streak 5 was great but it was built with very outdated hardware/specs. Samsung definitely has won the consumers by making the Note stands out of the market with the S Pen and some top hardware specs.
