So after just over 2 years, I think my HD2 has offered me all it can, and now I want to get a new phone. Only problem is, I dont know what to get! Ideally I would like to stick with WP7, but the manufacturer of the phone isn't too important. Camera, screensize(large) and battery life are the main features I am after. Really, I think the only contender is the HTC Titan, but I haven't really seen many others available. is there anything out now, or coming out soon that would be a good replacement? I was hoping the Nokia Ace might be coming soon, but i cant find any firm info
I've had my hd2 also for 2 years and just bought the Galaxy Nexus and haven't looked back. Awesome phone!!

Saw a Samsung galaxy note today..
I think this could be the successor for me..
Time will tell..
I like the 5.3'' screen a lot..
I fancy the ss note too,, but I'm waiting till summer and buy one outright once the price drops and the devs fully open it up. In the meantime I bought another hd2, (since I've been living with a cracked screen and no gps for 18 months since a drunken phone fumble, *cringe* )
samsung galaxy note i have also been looking at, along with the galaxy s 2. im liking the idea of wp7 on the galaxy note....
maybe
a Htc Sensation xl; 4,7 inch display and Sense..
Just go with WP7, 5 on the HD2!
It'll probably never be ported to the Samsung Galaxy Note, and or any other phone from the galaXy series

I currently have the galaxy note and it is the bomb, a few issues here and there but nothing out of the ordinary. Just looking for more development, but will take time. I remember when the hd2 was the same all there was was wm6.5 then a very shoddy sd Android build and now it's a living breathing machine capable of so much more.... The hd2 will ever be in my debt and I will never get rid of it. On that note I would like to give out massive respect and thanks to all developers and users in the hd2 forums that have helped over the last few years.
Gone but not forgotten.

Wish I hadn't sold mine when I got my release SGS2. Just for playing about with it was far and away the best phone ever. Technically it is clearly well behind now, but we are three years on so that is hardly a surprise
I see the rumoured htc edge is truly the only phone that comes close to being the true successor of the HD2

Same, I'm finished with my 2 year HD2 contract next month and I'm itching to get a new phone, been eyeing up the Nexus for a while. But I'm scared of buying it and getting buyers remorse the instant the HTC edge or the Galaxy s3 are released.
But I really dont want to have to wait another 3 or so months to upgrade
hd2 lagacy
i should recommend u something android related
the galaxy family is the perfect one, so Galaxy S II or Galaxy Note will be ok, including there ICS update
♦♦ Galaxy Note ♦♦
Galaxy NOTE seems to be the only device right now which i think is pulling me towards itself and away from my hd2 !
the device (hd2) has served me very loyally over the past months...
but still i would keep my hd2 as a second phone and galaxy note as first ! !
As my friend did
I also think bout buying it))

why dont u get a gs 2? its fast, screen is big~~ anything u want its on it~~
galaxy series...
I think im going to take the plunge and get the titan! looking at getting an android tablet so I will have the best of both worlds (PC world have an Advent tablet for £130!!)
first i was looking at the nexus, but no sd-card slot? no way! so i'm landed with the galaxy note, now since 3 moths. i still love my hd2 on miui rom, using it with my prepaid sim card, but the note... wow... also good rom devs around and a lot of possibilities in flashing...
Most of people quit HD2 for HTC Desire HD or HTC Sensation.
For Android Phone, Galaxy Nexus is annoucing a new SmartPhone Class. Like HTC One series =D
HTC One X should be quad-cored with a 720p - 4.7" Screen =D
After 2 years of being loyal to the HD2 I finally ugraded to the SGSII and haven't looked back, yes I still have the HD2 running MIUI ICS the Galaxy S 2 is a great replacement, sure the dev support is not as deep, but give it time, it will be.
So i just switched back to at&t and could not decide on a phone. I got my wife a note and its cool almost too big . I bought them at costco and have 89 days to return for another phone and didn't know what i wanted so i got a LG thrill, not a great phone for a flash aholic like me, just grabbed it cause it was free till i decided. Should i just go get a note or is the one x going to be worth waiting out or maybe the skyrocket hd ..... this is the first time i haven't had a cutting edge phone in years and I'm not sure to pull the trigger on the note or wait out something better.
In my biased personal opinion the Note is absolutely positively THE best phone currently on the market and the best phone that will be out until the Note 2. Yes it is a big phone but that's part of the reason I LOVE it. It's just superb. Yes Samsung is a bit laggy on updates seeing how we are on Gingerbread still but the developer community is outstanding on these phones. I've had the Captivate before this and the community was outstanding. Give this some more time and it will be the same way because this is such a different phone it will be better than the Captivate which the devs made an outstanding phone in my opinion given what they were dealt from the factory.
Go Note and don't look back!
Thanks for the reply dev support is a huge deal to me so i think i might just do that, i don't know how long i can run without ics after having a rezound and a gnex both on ics and i know i can already do it on the note. Maybe i will just play with the note i got for my wife for a couple more days and swap out this thrill for a note if i can get used to the size.

Skyrocket HD should be out in like a week or two I thought. Also will be a great phone. Still a big 4.65 screen but not too large like the note imo.

Padfone is coming out soon as well.
Almost too many options i wish i could have waited to leave Verizon till these were out.. at least the 90 day return policy should let a couple of them release before i am stuck although i might just go grab myself a note i think i will probably wait and see the skyrocket hd at least first if it really is so soon and if i can last on gingerbread lol

One X on at&t. It is the king. S4 soc is crushing tegra 3, camera is the best on the planet, and 4.7" screen. What else comes close?
Two negs: 1 no sd card slot(get usb2go drive), 2 no extended battery(s4 and ics should mitigate battery issues)
I will be picking mine up May 6th!

So, back in 2010, my wife and I were looking for new phones to buy. I had a Nokia E71 while hers was an outdated SE feature phone, and she desperately needed a smartphone to keep track of her emails. She was hell bent on getting a Blackberry. I tried reasoning with her, and she finally agreed not to get a blackberry, but then she started insisting on getting a Nokia instead. This was around Valentine's Day in 2010, I tried telling her that some great Android Phones are about to be launched, she should wait, or better still get an iPhone.
The sad state of affairs in India in Feb 2010 was such that Apple were releasing the previous year's iPhone model (3GS I think) a month before the new model was announced. I could not let her buy an outdated iPhone for INR 36,000 when she could get the latest Nokia N97 Mini for INR 24,000. I still implored her to wait for newer Android phones.
She decided she couldn't wait and she got an N97 Mini for Valentine's Day . I must say I was also interested in some Symbian devices at the time, but I kept telling myself that I could make the E71 last a few more months and make a call when the newer Androids were released.
Finally i9000 released in July 2010, and I heard the world going crazy over the internet. I still kept waiting, and I finally decided that I needed to make sure that this phone would be future proof like the HD2.
The clincher for me was XDA. I saw so many people boasting of updated i9000 ROMs for each android release that I finally purchased my own i9000 on 11/11/10.
Not disappointed at all. Have you seen the number of JB ports available for i9000? Tell me one phone that was released at the same time and has such brilliant community support. All I can say is, my brother's Desire HD cannot find even a single decent ICS ROM.
Thats right we are awesome. We know
I agree with the great community support. Yet, maybe we are also lucky because it is very much close with Nexus.
Yeah I switched from my N8 to an i9000 a couple months back and haven't looked back. I was bored of modding Symbian^3 it was just so locked down... almost why I couldn't live with an iPhone, they're great devices stock but Android devices are great stock but with heeeuuugeeeee potential.
Go open source as much as you can
I'm always motivated to the open source devices and software
I bought it during the release years ago and I'm still checking these forums everyday looking for something new.
It's still working like a charm and I love it! Thanks for the great community developing roms!

Was gonna get i9300 last week but when i sampled it in the store i thought the screen was huge. Seriously its like a tablet that makes phone calls.
Don't get me wrong im not saying bigger isn't better LOL!! but a phone is a phone and a tablet is a tablet. So what next the gs4 will be a 42 Inch LCD?
I got mine about 1 1/1 year ago, but was a bit bored and anoyed by all the samsung and telco stuff
so I started flashing about six month ago and I never will go back to stock. I'ts also great to be in this comunity,

What did I say ?
Had my i9000 for about a year and a half.
Don't regret it in the slightest. If my device makes it to 3 years old I'll still be using it as my main phone.
I wanted to get people's opinions about the Note II.
Do you guys like the phone?
What is the state of the roms do they have full functionality of the s-pen?
Do the roms have the ability to hot spot?
How difficult is this to root (i have rooted all my devices from the original evo to the 3d, and nexus 7, and etc) does this fall into the average difficulty or does it get odd (jubunto wire trick...)
Is the moding community active/healthy?
I know these are a lot of questions, but but my evo 3d is dying and I might have to etf my line loose my phone number in order to replace this(unless I want to rebuild my system two times once when I get my evo repaired and once when I can upgrade in April..) if I am going to do that I want to make a smart decision on a phone that can last me the full two year term on my contract.
Anyone that can and does help thanks in advance.

There is only ONE thing which can go wrong with this phone; since Samsung is not releasing the soruce code for Exynos chipset, developers are having hard time for making daily suitable ROMs and if Samsung suddenly decides to cut updates off after -say- 1 year than Note 2 starts to age rapidly because of the lack of the up-to-date ROMs. But if we look at the SGS2's past it seems like that is not the case. So, nothing to worry about I guess. .
You will not regret buying this phone! When you get used to the bigger screen, it is just too awesome!
To answer one of your questions, it is super simple to root. I believe you can find the program in the dev section
Best android phone so far for me. Had a lot of high ends but note2 was and is the best. Rooting is easy, dont need big knowledge just need to learn to use google or xda search and read a bit. Note 2 community isnt so big now but later it will increase, same as was for other phones, just need more time. If you are not smartphones geek, note 2 could last you even more than 2 years, it is fast, good hardware, nice software additions. You wont regret ;D
Trollol. I would just like to answer 1 question,
It's not HTC difficult to root this phone
Note 2 best handset there is ... stay clear of htc !
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
you won't regret it. It'll take about 1 day to get use to the phone size after that every other phone will feel too small and like a toy.
I wouldn't even say, "wait for CES". This phone is so capable and powerful it'll still be better than 95% of anything coming at CES. And will easly last you 2 years.
buy it. NOW
omega rom v9. 1 kalgas mixed theme
thought i might put my opinion for you
I have had HTC's for years
TYTN, TYTNII, Touch HD, Desire then Sensation XE
I was used to Rooting HTC's and was flashing roms pretty often trying to get the best battery and performance and when i saw a mate with a Note II i wanted one but was a bit worried with the rooting etc.
Now after using the Toolkit and making Backups of EFS and Nand etc and then rooting , and now just yesterday flashing the latest XXDLL4 rom its turned out to be pretty easy.
As regards to the phone even though it has a bigger screen the battery life is amazing compared to any HTC i have had (a friend has a HTC One X and he struggles to get a day even with light usage ) but i use the note for everything even playing a fair amount of games and youtube vids etc and so far i have not run low on battery before the end of the day .
the speed is superb it just does not feel laggy at all and it's great to actually have 2gb ram as i no longer have to worry about memory management at all.
At first the big screen was weird but after a day or so i could not go back to anything smaller, you just get used to it and then realise that the biiger screen just gives you so much (although i use nova launcher to take advantage of the space)
the Spen is a good feature but not one that i have used a great deal but when i want to write notes its much easier to use the pen rather than my finger.
if i had one issue it is with the size as its difficult to use onehanded but i'm getting used to that.
In conclusion its by far the best Phone i have owned and with all of the HTC phones i have owned i have always looked at the next phones due for release but with this one i cant say that i would look to replace it for quite a while.
Best phone on the market!

Thanks guys I'm thinking I will be upgrading tomorrow, and yes it will cost me my phone number as frigging sprint ended the buy out option,. But I'm thinking from what you guys said that it would be worth the switch as seeing as how adding a line is activation charge free till the seventh and seeing as how best buy price matches and this phone is going for 199 on both amazon and Frys I need to bite the bullet and jump on this train.
Or would you guys wave me off if the price tag included a new phone number?

For the second consecutive month, the Samsung Galaxy Note II dominated in both the People's Choice Chart and Mobile Tech Expert's Chart in PhoneDog Media's Official Smartphone Rankings™. It went uncontested all month long, never straying from the #1 position. For the time being, the Samsung Galaxy Note II shows no signs of slowing down or surrendering its top spot in the charts.
For the month of December, the Samsung Galaxy Note II proved it was a force to be reckoned with. It held first place in the People's Choice Chart and Mobile Tech Expert's Chart for each week throughout the month.

Yes, you are going to love this phone.
Feel happy with the note 2, big screen, long battery time, fast cpu, 2gigs of ram(really really smooth), write instead of typing anymore, fully feeling its power using s note, floating things, its just the first smartphone that I feel it is really smart :victory:
I'm really close to buying the note 2. The only things stopping me is that the phone has been out for some months now, since September. And I'm a bit worried everyone is going to jump ship when the Sony Yuga (because of sources) and Galaxy S4 (because of hardware) come out.
Goddamnit, I can't decide.
Lol. The next big thing is always around the corner. You could be enjoying a note 2 right now and watch from the side lines comfortably for at least a year right now. I don't want to jump right in to A15 chip sets til they've matured a bit and see who utilizes it the best. I am pretty sure by September/October next year all the big phones will be out except perhaps the next nexus.

Hehe yea I know. It's just that the note 2 has been out for almost 4 months, and it's not like the price has dropped that much, here in denmark. And it seems that the exynos sources aren't coming out, which could add to the lifespan of the phone.
On the other hand, the note has a pen and a huge battery. Decisions, decisions.

Best phone ever
Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting a Nexus 4 to replace my HTC Sensation. The Sensation has many problems such as huge battery drain and it gets extremely hot during usage. So I thought the Nexus 4 would be a great idea. Pure Android (huge fan of that, was using CM for a long time on my Senny) and Google Support sound good and the price seems to be okay to (I could buy a 16GB variant for about 310€).
Is this phone great? Is it still worth buying considering it's already nearly a year old? Does it have some know problems such as huge battery drain or display problems?
I need this phone for browsing, using the calendar, writing emails/sms and sometimes taking photos. I don't play any games on it except 4 pictures 1 word.
Thanks in advance!
I too came from a Sensation, and it's a fine upgrade, for all the reasons you mention. Perhaps not as durable as HTC's build quality, so be sure to include a decent cover (I use the Diztronic TPU and it looks factory) to protect that beautiful glass. It's a joy to use..you can't go wrong. Cheers!

Honestly, if that is all you use your phone for, you should get the Lumia 1020. But if you want to stay with Android and can wait 4 more months, the 5th Nexus will be out then and should the price be as low as the Nexus4, then it would be better to get that.

The Lumia 1020 would be out of the price range. I'd never pay 400€+ for a phone I only use for work. I probably can't wait till the next release because the Senny really bugs me. I can't use a phone which burns in my hand because it's getting extremely hot while chewing through battery like nothing. My Sensation barely gets through the day with moderate use.

I can't sincerely tell someone to purchase a 7 month old device when knowing a faster device will come for the same price in due time.
Well you can go on buying Nexus 4, everything is a beauty when you compare prices and then it is a google phone so it always have it perks.
If you think you should wait for nexus 5 then its not very much pretty soon bcz this time google launched s4 and htc one as google variant which means next nexus will take time.
Your tasks which u need to perform as you have mentioned would all be performed very well.
Tip I can give even for better battery.
Unlock the bootloader, use custom recovery such as CWM and flash CM 10.1 stable releases which ever is latest.
Find franco kernel and flash that and for better colours use its colour profile.
You will have an outstanding experiance with great display and great battery time.
Best of luck.
NOTE. All decision is urs what ever suits you best.

People will and should buy the device that suits their needs and the price they are willing to pay.
If you want a unlocked / contract free phone the device is a good choice
The entire motion that a new device will be out in a couple months is pointless. He wants a phone now. A couple months is just that. A couple months living with a phone he doesn't want. Then when the next nexus device comes out there will be the next best thing on the horizon.
He a is a basic user that doesn't participate in the stupid I need the lastest and greatest hw spec race.
Sitting around waiting for 4 plus months for a device is just stupid.
Why buy a HTC one now? The plus version is coming? Why by a s4 now? The advanced or whatever version with the 800 is coming in a couple of months.

To each their own, I cannot speak for the needs of TC nor their personal interests. Whether he's comfortable with waiting X months is currently unknown and has not been divulged in this topic, so we can agree to disagree.
He said he probably can't wait for the next release because his phone bugs him.
Even a device like the HTC first would suit him fine hardware and software wise. Not unlocked and cheap of course ( don't even think it launched outside the US or unlocked) but just talking the device itself
There are plenty of users who are not concerned with the I can read the spec sheet pissing matches. Wait for the latest and greatest chip so they can have a higher score in benchmarks etc.
Its definitely still worth buying full price. Its a great device especially if you're a fan of stock android like you said.
Happy phoning.
I really don't need high specs. Benchmarks never intersted me because at the end you probably won't feel any difference between for example the snapdragon 600 and the snapdragon 800 in everyday use. I just want the phone to work well without stuttering and without any hick ups.

If you need a phone now, just go for it. If you are not in a hurry, you can wait and see what comes up. IMO I usually don't want the first batch of the phone anyway since they are usually the ones with problems.
just buy it
I highly recommend nexus 4.. Believe me it's as smooth as HTC one out even better..
Root and flash cyanogenmod and Franco kernel... That made me a delighted user from a happy user...
Besides it'll have developer support for hell lot of a time to come... Even after people forget about HTC one and s4..
