Curious about pogo pins and wireless charging? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see they have included pogo pins on the nexus 10 as well as nexus 7, but opted out on the nexus 4 which comes with wireless charging. Now why would they move away from this, one if the good things was the charging & audio dock, which I mounted in my dash for torque, music, nav etc. from my gnex. Just curious as to why the switch now...I just wonder if BT audio will be acceptable or sound terrible.

I have been wondering the same thing. Why exclude a technology that they've been putting on all other devices? That said, I don't think many will miss this to much, since 4.2 introduces miracast, and since the phone has wireless charging.

I know it was a bit odd. Why include with the new nexus 10 and drop it with the phone. I'm just wondering now what will be the easiest/cleanest way for me to stream audio to my car since I'll simply use the charge dock for charging and mount

Video Out.

Hey everyone!
My Nexus 7 will be here Wednesday (YAY!)
And I just read that the USB port isn't MHL
Without buying the Nexus Q (All I have in the country is my 4g tether) how can I use an external monitor on my new tablet?
I noticed that there are 4 pogo pins on the nexus 7 vs the 3 on the galaxy nexus. Is there video out on these? Also my M18x has something called WI-HD that allows me to wirelessly transmit my monitor signal to a reciever connected to my tv. Is there any way my new tab can do something similar? I suppose I can just use my galaxy nexus for my Play TV shows but I was kind of looking forward to playing games on the big screen.
Thanks!
Bump. any suggestions guys?
There is no cable solution... chances are there will be a software WiFi Direct solution, but not yet.
Thanks for the info.

HTC has WiFi media steam thingy box .... although I think it works only for videos

Do pogo pins charge as AC or USB & smallest music compression

Just wondering for an in dash mount for a nexus 7 in the near future. Wondering if I should make room for the charger to plug in or if I could use the official dock and use the audio out and charging from the pogo pins, much cleaner/easier for docking.
Also what is the smallest compression for music while also being acceptable quality? I'm not an audiophile, I believe that's the term, I just want something acceptable. I found you can compress a 600mb+ CD down to 30mb and still be alright. Might solve some of music storage issues since it will be in dash radio.
Thank you everyone.

Don't go lower than 128kbps, if you have to compress I would go for 320kbps personally.

Unfortunately from what I have read, the N4 isn't compatible with MHL which really sucks because I have the stuff left over from my HTC Sensation.
The Nexus 4 utilizes Slimport which is based on the DisplayPort technology

Link to adapter on Amazon, works well with Stock and Paranoid from what I remember reading, not sure why others haven't merged it. I use it on CM10.1 despite not cloning the display properly, hopefully it will be fixed in one of the nightlies at some point.

I ordered today the slim port. Will be here tomorrow and I'll let you know how it works.

[Q] A case for nexus 7 that accept a SIM card?

I remember seeing things like this that converts a iPod to iPhone.

Is there a similar one for Nexus 7?
I bought my Nexus 7 when it just came out, and I don't want to spend more just to get the 3G version...
I have seen anything like that.
Get a 3g USB dongle and otg cable, it should work. There are couple of threads about this already, have a look around.
The only way I can imagine such a case is such dongle, just packed into mass of silicone to fit the n7, and that I have never seen, even market for that isn't big enough to be worth developing.

Or perhaps a portable hotspot? I'd love if yourkarma.com was available in my area, unfortunately it's not.
Just like the microsd but with 3g. But a hotspot should be better, easier and more battery friendly

Can we use usb gprs gsm modem
To make/recieve calls and sms ?

USB DAC support?

The auxiliary ports on all phones are crap, does the Nexus 4 support exerting music through USB? If not, is there a kernel that has the capability of enabled that function? Thanks.

Probably yes, but you would need a Y cable splitter for the USB power. In the end you'd get a really bulky setup. Not worth it IMHO.

I don't need the power I just want to send info to my car audio.

That is called USB audio out. The Nexus 7 supports OTG of of the box, but even then it cannot support USB audio out.

So the chances of it working on a Nexus 4 is slim.
