Do you think that Google will let us return our 1st gen nexus 7 ( both 8GB & 16GB) and get new one ( with a little money more)?
I hope it will happen....
Doubtful, it's business.

No, get over it.
Beamed from my Grouper.
Why would they want to do that? It's not defective only because there's a new version.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I don't think so. But it would be pretty awesome if they did.
If your purchase was within a few days I'm sure it can be negotiated with the retailers, within their return/exchange policy, but that affects only a few people who didn't know about the new releases. I've got a 16gb, but drooling over a 32gb/3G... If I want one, I'll have to fork out another $250... C'est la vie.
They are all "first gen" nexus 7's. Larger storage and 3G don't require an apology from Google, you knew the device you bought didn't have those things.
No. You gave them money in return for a product which they gave you, you knew what you were buying at the time and it's YOUR fault if you're unhappy with it. People need to stop whining about this, seriously

I'm hoping to buy a Nexus 7 8GB from Google play. I think they have stock now. But I heard things about Nexus manufacturing defects. And I'm in outside of the Nexus selling countries. Hope to get it via a friend in US. So is it good choice to buy it now or should I wait for next batch? Does Google's current selling batch has defects?

I got mine in the UK and I have very slight screen yellow at the right hand screen, and I mean VERY slight. Apart from that everything is spot on!

The defects are the same with any device that you would get,and very few people have defects, its just that the people who have perfect nexus's are quieter

The headlines said few people experienced it. It's normal for defects to exist with a few amongst a million in every manufacturing process. If you get one, return it, even if you are paying for postage.

Depending on the defect, if possible, I would suggest waiting a little bit longer before sending the device in (if you ordered from Google). Judging by:

Yes, take the chance and get it when you can.
I was very fortunate to get one of the last three 16gb models in stock at Staples in Boston. It's flawless, and now that it's rooted, running EOS ROM, Motley Kernel and TWRP recovery, I couldn't be happier. Very sweet!

I would say buy it. For the price its very well worth it, if you get a bad device just send it back !
Think about it this way. People don't usually go on the internet to express how good a product is. But they usually go on the internet to express how bad there product experience is. So if everyone who owned a nexus 7 I am sure it would be a small percentage of people with defects. Just cross your fingers.

So I bought a nexus 7 from office depot. It is unopened because after reading all the threads on here Im a little worried about the problems it will have. Im wondering if anyone has had any experience returning the device through office depot? Im also on the fence after hearing all the problems with the device it sounds like a huge headache. Looking to get some other users inputs on the nexus 7 device and if anyone's dealt with returning theirs at office depot. Also If you think I should purchase it from another store.
I've had no issues with the two I purchased from Staples. I wouldn't buy a pencil at Office Depot, the stores/people here SUCK!
I bought mine at Futureshop (here in Canada) and I was pretty hesitant as well in opening it after seeing all these threads about the issues people were having with theirs. But to my relief it was a good model. No visible defects with it.
Staples has a 14 day return policy on electronics. Keep that in mind when buying in store.
This is what all these negative threads are doing. Just open and start using, it's a great device.

I bought it at ABT in Glenview, IL. I had a problem with mine and ABT did not have any issue to exchange it for me.
I have not shopped at office depot for a while but when I did, i never had any problem return/exchange.

Office Depot has the same policy but once it's open only store credit. What's Google plays return policy?

You can return for a full refund at Staples if there is a problem with the device, even though it's been opened.

more like i dont want to get burned again I had a Samsung droid charge worst smartphone I have ever used. I just want to make sure that all these complaints are not as widespread as they are made out to be.
You're not gonna see everyone praising it on forums, they are here to resolve issues and report problems. My 7 is flawless.

You bought it already. Just open it and find out. It's completely worth it if it's got a good display. And if it's defective, you can get it exchanged.
And I'm saying this as a person that has gotten two defective Nexus 7s and am currently waiting on number 3 (from Google Play). At least with your retail store purchase, you can exchange it the same day (if they have stock) if it's defective.
I got mine from Staples a week ago tomorrow. An absolutely flawless unit as far as I can tell. It was the only Nexus they had in stock, but it has no issues.
If there are in fact problems with it, I am obviously less observant/picky than other owners. I am yet to notice anything wrong
I wish people would stop saying the same exact thing in each of these threads....
nexus 7 is a fast and great little device.
go buy it now if you get a bad one take it back until your happy

The first batch of Nexus 7s seem to be a little faulty, but that's expected with any brand new product. I just got mine from Staples on Sunday and it's perfect. They said their previous shipment was defective and had to send it back and mine was from the new batch that had just come in the previous day. If it's defective, return it and get another one. Easy enough.
Got mine from Office Depot a week ago and it is flawless. None of the problems people here are reporting.

Since it has been discontinued and I don't think Google will release any other tablets with only 8 gigs, does anybody think that it will become a rare sought-after item on eBay?

Lol they are already rare. None of the big box stores here in nova Scotia even carried them from the start.

A few weeks ago, the mediamarkt in Arnhem (NL) sold many 8GB nexus 7's for, if I remember correctly, ~€180 per piece. Since the Netherlands was not supposed to have the 8GB variant, I suppose they must have been leftovers asus could not sell in other countries. Anyway, they were not selling very well there either, so the 8GB model is not rare and nobody wants it. I very much doubt this to change in the future.
I'm just curious about it. Like how some people have sold the first iPhone for a lot more than they're worth on eBay. Who knows, maybe a few years from now? We'll see...
Fun... I brought a 8gb from steg computer for 199chf today, and the stock ils still large... Tho mediamarkt switzerland only sell 32gb now, I guess im happy to get it for less than 170€ XD btw if the buyer isnt dumb: he will not pay a premium price for a used "so called" rare device.
8gb maybe not much space, but with Mega/Box/Owncloud lits more than enough

Hi, I got a Nexus 7 last December and loved it. Please note the passed tense because a month ago, a friend sat on my Nexus 7 and the screen cracked.
I have since been planning on buying a new screen on eBay for about $100. However, recently I have been hearing about the leaked specs of the next gen Nexus 7.
What I am wondering is if I should save up more money for the new one and just trash the old tablet with my friends scrawny butt imprinted in glass, or just fix it because the next gen isn't worth it.
I'd love to hear your thoughts because I can't decide.
Not to be a ****, but doesn't your friend have insurance that could refund that $100? It's normal here to be insured for breaking other people's stuff.

I once broke the back of his iPhone so it's not fair for me to make him pay for it.

Either sell it for parts. Hint hint. and save the money for the new Gen. Or fix it and sell it. Personally, I'd sell it for parts.

Most home owners or renters insurance has a deductible that's greater than the $100...

Yeah, that could work. Probably could get 50-100 for the cracked one, more if I include things like my case (probably won't fit the new one by my guess)
Sell them separate. Will take more time. But more money. If you want a quick 100 sell it as a whole.

Looking for the quick 100, I really miss having a tablet. :'( Also it has been rumored that the base model of the next gen will only be $229 (current gen 199) so I will have most of the tablet paid for by the time it comes out. I think I've made my decision, thanks everyone
So most of you really won't give a hoot but I got the new nexus 7 the Friday that it released, really liked it but after a week or so I started feeling a little underwhelmed so I put on ad on craigslist, knowing that the 32gb was in demand I decided to try push my luck and see if I could get a good smart phone in a trade with as little cash as possible.... Well Friday morning I traded the Nexus 7 and $60 for an unopened black mist 32gb galaxy S4, it was a no brained not to do, anyways yesterday I started looking at tablets again as I was missing my N7, I was trying like crazy to get stores to match office max's 20% offer but couldn't, I was gonna just buy the one 16gb that one of the store s had but I decided against and I would wait for a 32gb in a few weeks...
Well this morning I look on Craigslist again out of interest seeing if their was any decent tablets on for reasonable money, i looked in the computer section and their was a nexus 7 just listed, all it said was nexus 7 32gb for $150.... I get there expecting the 1st gen, I was gonna offer him $120 for it, out he walks of his house....its only a 2nd gen brand new sealed never touched.... I just got a brand new 32gb N7 FHD for $150!!! I didn't even make him an offer, I just took it in excitement... I am a lucky lucky guy this weekend!
