[Q] Do 8 GB nexus 7 users feel cheated? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With announcement of 16GB Nexus 7 and 32GB Nexus 7, do 8GB Nexus users feel cheated? I own a 8GB version and have found it to be inadequate for keeping all games together, forget about songs and videos. Though I made a wrong choice, today's discontinuation of 8GB model makes me feel cheated.
Do you too?

Yea. I mean that's the kind of risk you take being an early adopter, but I really feel I should of either just gotten a 16GB model, or waited. But then again my 8GB model is working just fine. I really wish Google would have some trade-in system to let me upgrade to a 16GB model at least, even if for a little price.
I wonder how long it will take to start seeing cool stuff for only 16/32GB models now...

Of course, it hasn't been long since they where out and this happened. And its not like added anything new other than the memory.
A upgrade like what happened with the kindle fire is ok. They changed a few things
But i exchanged mine for a 16gb today lol so im cool now
It did have some screen lift and even though it was passed the exchange time frame office Depot hooked me up. You just got to know how to talk to people

Depends on what you use your tablet for. Granted I bought a 16gb version on release, Sam's didn't have the 8gb option, but I still have 11 gigs of space available on mine. I use mine to browse the Web and do some random things for work, I have a 10" Acer Iconia for my Multimedia needs around the house. When I travel I tend to use Netflix to stream content, and or I can throw about 3 hours worth of shows on it to watch on a plane or whatever and still stay well under the 8 gig mark. If you wanted something for multimedia purposes then you should have purchased something with more memory, but if you use the tablet in the way it was built for 8gb should be plenty of space.

Hell, everyone should feel cheated because they don't have microSD slots... I have a 2 yo gtab with 32gb and could have 64gb if I wanted

we all are in the same boat. yours got discontinued. ours got price dropped.

hey look at the bright side, at lease we dont get completely cut off from the face of the earth like the ipad gen 3 hahs

Wouldn't mind them throwing some extra Drive space our way though. Seems like a simple gesture, considering as y'all said, memory is the only difference.

I really feel disappointed at all =.=....
I will give Google $80~$100 more for a change my 16GB for 32GB + 3G with my all pleasure =.='

no
No. I chose the "8", I got the "8", and I paid for the "8". My choice all through. I could have waited and grabbed the "16" for the same price as it now turns out, but then I would have missed the pleasure I have had from it in the meantime. I would have felt far more cheated to have bought the "16" only to find only thirteen gigs useable.

Yes, I feel cheated, especially because I had my 8GB Nexus for only a month now. Sure, there's always such a risk but after such a short time?
Still, I made the right decision at the time.. 50 € for an additional 8 gigs is just plain ridiculous. And for the most part, the storage is sufficient for my needs which is browsing the web and gaming (except Bard's Tale with its whopping 3,35 GB - great game btw!). For everything else there's USB OTG with either a 32GB flash drive or a Transcend Storejet.
I would probably go for the 32GB Nexus now, though. The markup is still not justified, but more bearable for sure. I'd be willing to pay for it for not having to lug around external drives in the foreseeable future and be able to connect a battery pack while on the go.

I'd expect them to provide same attitude Apple made when they dropped the iPhone 2G with 4GB....
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_(original)
I should remind you early adaptors got store credit. and if Google continue offering 25$ I'd expect them to give credit to those who got their device price cut.

for the same price, former 8GB owners lost 8GB storage space while former 16GB owners lost 16GB storage space..
i would say 16GB owners got "cheated" more..
anyway its those kind of risks we took when buying an electronics product, just that this time it happened a bit too fast..

Got my nexus 7, 25$ play store credit and 10$ wallet credit. I'm perfectly fine
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

So stupid for people to feel cheated when technology has an extremely short life cycle now-a-days.

Im from eu. And i dont have 25$ credit. Simply i get the tablet after that promotion anyway i wouldnt put my credit card number to a private vpn to set it up. So ye i feel cheated since n7 16gb costs here 230eur..its 300$ ..now i could get 32 for that prize and even first month didnt pass after it started selling in my country.
You dont get if you think its about technology..adding a cheap flash memory is a technological progress? Kidding right?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

The fact that you can run games with otg cable makes me not so much feeling cheated. However I am happy with my 8gb nexus 7
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app

Otg is fine..but..you bought tablet cuz of his mobility..now you got a tablet with a cabel with usb flash /i dont qq about my memory/
i wouldnt say anything but clearly its marketing thingy and google screwed it up.

So true! I don't understand how people feel cheated...they made a decision based on the information at hand and found the 8 GB to be a good product and bought it. In the light of the recent HW upgrade and price drop, it would seem it was a bad decision....suck it up...I understand it feels unfair, but who said life is fair? Myself, I decided that 8 GB was not enough, and the 16 GB lacked 3G so I didn't want either of the options available....I investigated, and found the rumor about a 32 GB and a 3G version, and decided to wait. I'd rather wait for a while and get a product I'm 100% happy with, than settle for the next best thing, just because I wanna be "first"....

you're missing the point. Storage, while useful, is not that important, as long as the otg cables work. The HSPA+ though, is the most annoying omission. I would have paid $50 more for that if it had only been available. Somebody else said around here and I agree: I'd rather use up the tablet battery for 3G, and not my phone.
Also, didn't get $25 credit because I'm from the EU.

Problem for some of us was that waiting was not an option. I bought my 16GB during a trip to the US, because to get it here would have cost me $400. I could have waited for the next better version, but by that logic I'd never have a phone - there's always something better out next year. Turned out ok though, because this way I don't get to swim with the sharks in Jersey. (would post URL, not allowed).

[Q] Nexus 7 really for me?

Hi all.
Firstly, I live in Canada, which means Google Play store content is not as "enriched" as the American version of the Google Store. There's not a lot of variety, or so I've heard.
Anyways, I am looking for a tablet, main purpose is not to game, but for music/video/office stuffs sometimes. I guess I don't need a quad-core processor, but it will definitely be useful.
I pre-ordered nexus 7, but seeing how I am restricted to 16gbs, I am planning to cancel that and get a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 instead, and put a 32gb SDHC inside. I can only spend about 250 CAD, so ASUS Transformers are out of my question.
My question is, should I stick to Nexus 7, and google play store that is not very developed or get a galaxy tab 2 7.0? I am not really planning to buy content from it anyways, just use it as a day-to-day device for video playback and music from my iTunes collection.
Also, if I do get the galaxy tab, would it be updated to jellybean possibly? Would this improve the performance over already-installed ics?
Or should I just wait for a new line of tablets, and how soon will they be released??
Thanks.

First your comment about the limited "content" of the Play Store will apply to all Android devices. Since they all share the same market. You also have the option of obtaining content via Amazon and GetJar...
Second, I am not 100% sure, but I think the market is not as robust for the world outside of North America (includes Canada), don't quote me though. I am sure other's in your region will chime in soon.
At $200 USD it's IMO the best bang for the buck. I am not sure if you have any other devices currently, but I would really take inventory of how much content you require to carry with you at all times. I assume what ever you are considering buying at that price point will be limited to wifi as the N7 is. You have quite a few cloud storage options. If you feel so inclined, there are also more options on additional storage hardware if you decide to root as well..
Hope that helps,
-CC

While I do wish you could expand the nexus 7 storage you need to ask yourself......are you really going to use over 16 gigs? I mean how often do you need to have 15 movies on your tab? You're probably going to be by your computer everyday at some point so you much crap do you realistically need on it on a day to day basis? If you are going on a flight plug in a flash drive with the OTG cable. The nexus 7 hardware is equivalent or better than the grab 2 7 and the software/dev is going to be amazing. Just my. 02

I didn't think the N7 supported OTG? Does it?
Questions go in the Q&A section
As he said, you need to take inventory of all the stuff you'll have on the tablet at one time. Music can be several gigs, depending on your collection (and that's not really something you want to copy back and forth) and whether or not you use google music.
Remember that you don't actually get 16G, only 13G.
USB OTG is (probably) also possible if you root.

Hi, I have the grab 7.7, the nexus 7 and I just bought the gtab 7.0 for my niece. If I were in your situation with a budget I would do the gtab 7.0 for 2 reasons 1- storage sounds like you need as much as you can get. 2- I think the N7 has some production, build quality issues and my experience with the transformer prime tablet, also made by ASUS was not great.
If you can't wait then get the 7.0. If you CAN wait, I am sure they will work out the kinks - overall the N7 is the better device but the 7.0 is a solid device no issues lots of accessories and does have ice cream sandwich OS

Thanks. Now I am really considering the gtab2. But in Canada would I be able to cancel my order because this is what they told me via email:
"Hello,
We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. We’ve had incredible demand for the new tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. Your tablet will ship in 1-2 weeks.
Thanks for your patience. Your Nexus 7 will be on its way soon.
The Google Play Team"
This is clearly a bs, since I paid 20 for 2-day shipping, have to wait 1-2 more weeks.
They haven't charged my credit card yet, so would I have a better chance if I call them personally? (I tried last night, gave up after 50 min on the phone waiting)

It's true it really isn't as enriched as the USA store, you can still rent movies at least (haven't gotten my 7 yet to check out what's in the store). I don't see myself gaming really that much either (I have a PS3 for that) so I'll be doing pretty much the same as you.
For Music: I uploaded all my music to Google Music and I gotta say, it is well worth it if you haven't done it already. Really handy and streams really quickly.
For Movies/TV Shows: I have my own dedicated server (Dell running Ubunutu) from which I stream my content from so in my case I'm not too worried about storing stuff on the tablet (except for maybe a trip where I'll save some). If this does interest you or you are home quite a bit, you could even create a share folder on your computer or laptop and access it from your tablet.
As for cancelling, from what I understand you can refuse delivery and they will give you a refund, but I haven't personally checked on that. Honestly, I have my doubts you'll get offical JB and if you do it will be ages before you ever get it.
Which one did you order from the GP Store, 8GB or 16GB?
PS. This will be my first tablet so I'm excited

And at OP, you're gonna be using the same Play Store on the N7 and the Galaxy Tab, so I'm kinda confused about your statement. Do you mean because it's running jelly bean? If so, it's only gonna be a short time for developers to edit those apps to be fully compatible.

Ya I know but you can get it like I did (I live in Canada as well) using Tor to setup an account and then your free to access it while still in Canada. I used this guide, super simple and again you only need to setup using a US IP, you can still access using a Canadian IP
Ohh that sucks, I ordered a 8GB from GP but decided to sell to a friend and ordered through Futureshop, much cheaper (cost me $294 w/ tax for 16GB FS, $256 w/ tax GP in Ontario). Hopefully they do ship them soon though
I got mine yesterday and I think it's the best tablet experience. I have a Transformer (Tf101); and I think I almost like this more. It's smooth, fast and extremely portable. The Nexus 7, along with my Chromebook, will go to school with me. I think this will be the ideal combination.

Should I keep my nexus 7?

[UPDATE]my best buy said the 32gb Galaxy note 10.1 was deleted from system. no 32gb

So I've debating switching up to the 32gb version. When I got my note, they only had 16gb in stock. They said to check on Tues. And Thurs as that's when they get in new shipments. So I called today to see if 32gb came in yet. The girl checks her computer and she tells me the 32gb version has actually been deleted from their system. Meaning they will not carry it. I guess they will only carry 16gb version.
Has anyone actually purchased a 32gb from Bestbuy? Or has anyone heard anything like I described? Strange that it would be deleted since its so new. I'm skeptical that she is correct. If she is right, I now have to decide whether I keep the 16gb version or go get my money back. Then find another brick & mortar store that sells the 32gb. I like BB return policy though. Which states I have 30 days to exchange or get a refund if I wish. I paid in cash so I'd want a cash refund. Store credit wouldn't be any good if they never plan to carry 32gb.
What other B&M stores are carrying the 32gb note 10.1?
8/24 UPDATE:
Well I came to the conclusion that 16gb wasn't enough. So I just returned my 16gb to best buy and had them order me the 32gb version. Its deep gray. I really wish they had the white one in that size. They only had gray. The difference I had to pay for uprade in storage space was $52. It will arrive by 8/30 to that best buy location. Didn't want to take any chances having it delivered to my residence and the delivery people leave it sitting outside my door..lol
I got tired of seeing my storage space decrease fast and I haven't even really begun to install everything I want. Games take up the most room. Nova3 alone is almost 2gb. I have alot of great games THST I paid for already that I want to install. Like Broken Sword for example. So me getting 32gb will give me more than enough room to store my games and movies I download. I can easily fill up the 32gb also but at least I have more to work with initially. 16gb out the box equates to only 11gb storage left to use. Didn't want to have to resort to deleting stuff constantly to make room. Then I eventually want to root and flash device. So the backup will take some space also. I'm managing my 16gb Nexus 7 well but I don't need so much installed on it. As its my more portable device and only needs the best and essential apps.
Well my wait begins. I'm posting this from my Nexus 7. I miss the Note 10.1 already lol. I'm ready for 8/30 to hurry up and get here. It'll be here either next wed. Or before. Plenty of time to keep reading up on things and to find a good case.

So does this mean you are giving up on the infinity? Not trying to be a ball buster, actually value your opinion. You have been ASUS biggest supporter when they needed one and now it looks like you are going to the dark side ( or the bright side depending on how you look at it). I trully cannot decide if I should keep my infinity or not. I have definitively said I was keeping the infinity twice and everyday I wonder if I am doing the right thing, especially as I hear how JB is just a big a mess on the 300t as all the prime issues.
So, what is your call? Is the Note the way to go and does the screen resolution really make a difference?
Why pay 50 bucks more for a 32 when you can buy a 32 GB sdcard for under 50 bucks and have 48?

Because you can't store installed app data on sdcard anymore. On older android versions you could but no longer. So it's not like if I have 0 internal memory left and 32gb SD card, I'd be able to install a 1gb+ game. It won't let you install it into microsd card. So once you run out of internal memory on tablet, you can no longer install apps and games unless you delete other stuff you have on internal memory.
I know I can store my movies and such on memory card, but I cant install new apps and games on tablet once internal memory is used. It won't matter if i have 32gb sdcaRd :
They won't sell the 32GB instores for some reason, only the 16GB. You can purchase it from their website. Yeah I know, its not the same, and not ideal.
Here is a list of retail outlets that Samsung said was going to carry it the 10.1.
Electronics Expo
HH Gregg
Fry's Electronic
Give one of those a try.

Which states I have 30 days to exchange or get a refund if I wish. I paid in cash so I'd want a cash refund. Store credit wouldn't be any good if they never plan to carry 32gb.
What other B&M stores are carrying the 32gb note 10.1?

I ordered a 32GB from Best Buy online. They charged me the correct amount and it should be here tomorrow. I just checked and they are sold out of the 32GB online. Not sure if it is gone for good though.

Is the Note the way to go and does the screen resolution really make a difference?

.I'M in the testing phase of this tablet ATM. I was impressed by the pen feature plus wanted to see exynos 4 quad core performs. As it's CPU and gpu is more powerful than tegra3. Tegra3 still a great Social btw so I already know how the infinity would be. Basically a more powerful prime with 1080P screen. So I said why not test out the note first. Since I bought it from BB, I have 30 days to try it out. If I DONT like it I can always get a refund or exchange for infinity pad.
As for which I would recommend, that's depends on what matters most to you. If you bought your infinity from BB, try out the Note 10.1. If you don't like it, take it back and get another infinity. I do know jb is coming for infinity. I would pay those threads much mind on how its performing on the 300. I'm sure jb is performing much better than previous ICS version. As jb on my nexus 7 is flawless. Which also is a tegra3 tablet. I have seen the threads on different issues with infinity like the I/o. Although update improved it.it didn't completely solve it. I can only go off what I read on their forums since I don't own an infinity. Or at least, possibly, not yet
How is your device performing? If it performs fine, you just may be suffering from wanting the newest latest tech..lol. if you having issues, give the Note 10.1 a try. IVE been very impressed with its build, performance, and display. No complaints and not a single ANR since I had it. This processor is very fast and battery life is great on this. This device will get better battery life than infinity pad. Based on what I read people reporting on infinity battery life. As for will the display resolution difference be a factor, I doubt it. Although this has the same resolution as prime, this tablet display looks slot better. The color reproduction and other stuff looks so much better. So for me, it looks good enough. It's a great display and makes the games look better. I noticed the difference playing nova3. The images and everything pop out more. It is a 720P display. Which is HD. Just not full HD(1080P). I've seen alot of people here saying they exchanged their infinity pad and ipad3 for this device and hardly notice difference in resolution. They were impressed with display.
I still support Asus as my experience with them was good. Which is why I bought a Google/Asus Nexus 7. Very impressive device also. So just because I have a note 10.1, doesn't mean I switched sides. Just testing the waters. Plus I always heard Samsung being thrown around as good quality. So I wanted to see for myself how it performs. Which admittedly, performs very well. Exceeds my expectations on it so far. I forgot to add, this tablet has the best stereo speakers on any tablet. Sound is amazing on this. True stereo separation, bigger speakers, and Wolfson audio equate to very rich, loud, and impressive sound coming from this tablet.
Final verdict: try it out. If you don't like it or not impressed, just return it and get another infinity pad. Nothing wrong with testing out other devices.

Thanks.very strange why they won't sell those in stores. Ill see how my memory goes during this 30 day refund period. I have alot of games previously purchased THST I'd love to install and try out on this display with stereo speakers. These more intense games now take up to 1-2gb of storage space. So it'll take no time to Max out 16gb. I remwber I was running low on space with my 32gb prime..lol. some games I can't install on this because they are tegra3 games.
Out of the box, a 16gb note 10.1 only has 11gb of free storage left. Even now I only have 7-8gb free storage left. I haven't even scratched the surface of all the apps n games I want to install on here...lmao.
Thanks again for the list.

Good to know. Thanks. Can I get the best buy store to order it from their online site for me, if online shows it in stock? Like if they don't have it in store, they can order it from their online store instead.
Edit: they still sold out online and shows not available for store pickup. Well I have 20 something days to decide if ill need more internal space(for games & apps) or not.
I got my 32 at Fry's yesterday. Only a 15 day return policy, though.
I just walked out of BB and they told me I could have the 32 in 3/5days
If I trade my 16 in on a 32 it will be the fifth different Tab I walked out of BB in three weeks.

Good to know... I'm loving my note but thinking of returning it for the 32GB version. BB website doesn't say back-ordered, it says sold out. I'm wondering if maybe they won't get it back online again??? I'd prefer getting it at BB because of the service/return policy and proximity of the store to me, but if they don't carry it Fry's will get the sale.

Wow, just checked Fry's return policy. It's changed, and not or the better:
10. Unless defective, a 15% restocking fee will be charged for all returned opened GPS/Navigation units, network-attached storage, projectors, cameras, camcorders, notebooks, netbooks, tablets and iPads, desktops, monitors, MP3 players and iPods, and Apple TVs. 11. I'm considering returning my 16gb Note for a 32gb one as well. Same concerns about the app data. I draw a lot and could see how I might run out of space if I'm not careful. Also, this Note I have seems perfect so I'm doubtful of getting another great one

Perhaps to drive more people to the Google Play store in hopes of being able to upsell the buyer on media purchases, extended warranty, and accessories that may otherwise not be available at retail stores.
To make people who want to buy it on the day buy the more expensive model.

Yeah better profit in the 32GB one, cos the cost of the extra 16GB is pence to google but $100 (£80) to us, that means there's quite a bit of profit to get from it.
Even tho google pays under ten dollars per 16gb added.

The fact that there is no expandable memory really makes me want to flying crotch punch the designers of this thing in that aspect. I mean really no SD card slot? That is a pure crappy greedy money grabbing asshole thing to do on their part. Only saving grace is you can probably just use a usb stick or external drive to put all your media on but that is kind of crappy when a tablet is suppossed to be mobile and quick. Might as well get a laptop if you're going to be toting around external drives and junk.
I bet it's the profit margin on the 16g. Wallyworld wants to make some coin when they sell that n10. Googly is I like sure we can cut you in but only on the 32GB. If the cost to produce the unit is 350 and their selling it for 399 they can't cut wallyworld in without taking a shot to the groin. Think about the box it's in and the shipping to get the unit from where ever to where ever that all costs coin. But who knows what's really going on this is just my conspiracy theory.

The price of this annoys me for the storage at 16gb. and the fact there is no 64gb option. with a super high resolution display, HD pictures and videos and optimized apps take up a lot more space. 16gb isn't enough 32 is barely enough. Such a high spec device needs a 64gb option, google really makes some silly decisions.

I agree that not having a slot is FUBAR, but you need to remember Google's emphasis on cloud services, and that the Nexus devices are designed to promote those. It's not an optimal solution, buy you can pick up an OTG cable for $2 and a 32G micro flash drive for ~$20. Keep big media files (e.g., movie rips) on the flash drive. It'll work well enough.
Well Apple doesn't offer expansion slots either on their devices and no one has an issue with it. There are external HDD that pair via WiFi (Kingston) and of course dongles you an use storage as well. No they are not great alternatives but they are alternatives none the less. I would rather have microSDHC or 64GB from Google but I would rather live with 32GB and sell my iPad more (which I just posted on eBay, 4 months old and saying see ya).
I know about the expansion cables and whatnot... i just would rather have a SD card slot and not have to worry about a dongle hanging off. And what about those of us who travel all over the place and can't get cloud services overseas when not on wifi? Thanks alot Google... asshats... Makes me want to buy an Infinity if I didn't keep hearing about the OS issues.
I'm the same way. I don't necessarily want to fully depends on cloud services. The nexus 10 should have a lot more storage space and the nexus 7 should have had a 64GB option right off the bat.
I'm also disappointed at the lack of a SD card slot. When I'm at the gym, am I supposed to bring a USB drive and dongle in with me? Might as well just bring in my desktop computer and set up shop.

At a place like Walmart, I would think they would want to push the cheaper model, and save the expensive one for online and actual electronic stores.

Upgrade from trouble-free 16GB to 32GB?

I've had a zero-problem, trouble-free 16GB N7 with great battery life that I bought in late July and started using in earnest at the beginning of Sptember. But I've got a friend who might want to buy this one and let me upgrade to a new 32GB. So that leads me to three questions...
1) Is there a risk of getting a new "problematic" N7 and is it worth it?
2) Would you get the mobile data version?
3) How much would you sell the 16GB N7 (with a 2yr squaretrade warranty on it)?
Thanks!
I was under the impression the new 32GB Nexus 7 was a more reliable build and actually a little faster. I'd upgrade in a heart beat. You will lose money on your 16GB though. I imagine less than $170 or they might as well get it brand new for $200 and that's if they are too lazy to find a deal this holiday season.

1) There's always risk. Mine came without and problems, I'm sure the issues are fixed by now.
2) What do you care if we'd get it? Do you need it?
3) sqaretrade warranty is useless to me (I don't even know what it is), I'd buy a used one for half the price of new one.
I'd say that 16GB to 32GB w/o mobile data is just a minnor upgrade. So from my point of view, get 3G version or stay with your current trouble-free 16GB.

I agree with this one...
If you have another Nexus device it is easier and cheaper to just tether then have to buy the 3G version unless its cheap to add to your existing plan.. Then it would be a good buy. What I do is save my tether settings to the N7 and whenever my Galaxy Nexus has tethering enabled the N7 connects automatically without any issue and it takes only a few seconds to toggle.
That said if you have a trouble free model and you don't worry about space then stick with what you got.. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, a lot of us had to go through a few models before getting a trouble free one.

Well, I wasn't going to entertain it, but I looked at my space and, only 3 months into using this thing, I'm down to 4GB of space. I'm not real keen on OTG or messing with that, so, witha lump in my throat, I'm gonna take the plunge and go for the 32GB version. Since I've got tethering capabilities on my cell, I'm not gonna go for the 3g version.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Now it's just a matter of keeping my fingers crossed, I guess.
My 32gb is perfect. It was an October release. My 16gb got stolen the day before OfficeMax started selling them. Funny cause I actually bought a 16gb and got home, set it up, jumped on XDA and seen the 32gb at OfficeMax. Called my local store and had them hold one.
Picked up my 32gb and returned the 16gb.
16 is OK but I like to throw games on there. I was hitting my Max and started having to uninstall some to play others. Plus my 16gb was stolen so the answer was easy. $250 for 16gb or 32gb... toughie

Upgrade 8gb N7 to a 32gb, worth it or just get the N10?

So I've got the first batch of 8gb N7s when it was released. Seeing how they don't make them no more I was thinking of possibly buying another N7 32gb (aren't they $199 now on sale?). But was thinking maybe just adding a couple hundred more dollars and getting the N10 instead.
I just don't know if either would be worth it though since I rarely ever leave the house and even more rarely leave the computer room =/. And I'm the only one in the house who would even know what to do with a N7 so plans of giving it as a present to a family member may be kinda slim.
What should I do?
I wouldn't upgrade unless you actually need the extra space for your device. If you were to get anything just go with a N10 so you have relatively different devices for potentially different day to day uses.

The Nexus 7 16gb is $199 dollars and 32gb is $249. Unless you find them on sale somewhere online or local store.
If you did choose to buy a new Nexus 7 with more space. You could keep your old 8gb for parts if you would ever need them later.

It is really not a hard decision tree.
If you have no need for a tablet, keep what you have or sell it and get nothing else.
If your current tablet meets your needs, keep it and get nothing else.
If you need more storage, sell what you have and get either a 32GB N7 or N10, depending on which size you prefer.
There is also a 3G consideration in there which might be a factor - but I prefer tethering anyway.
I have been kind of thinking of upgrading mine to 32gb, I brought quite a few games and they are so huge, I can imagine next year my 16gb being taken up with 2-3 games.

No not reallly. Basically lets you use an external hdd for storage right?
Personally I don't want a cable hanging off my portable device, I don't even like having it plugged in while using. Which is why, whenever possible, I get my electronics in 32GB version.
As for getting a nexus 10 as replacement, if you want a larger size tablet go for it, it all comes down to what YOU want out of a tablet.
