Price drop because with limited data lte isn't of much use.

Definitely LTE, I was ready to jump ship to AT&T but now I don't even know if I'll get this... waiting to see if any good LTE options become available in the next few weeks.
LTE is a dogs breakfast, especially in the US, when {again} it has decided to use different frequencies to most of the rest of the world...

Oh, definitely the price drop. I mean, I'm not using my phone for anything that requires 42 mbps or any super high speeds anyway. As long as my YouTube videos are loading properly, which is the main thing I would need for speed, I'm okay.
Between LTE being overly battery hungry and the lack of unlimited data, I say no freaking way I want LTE! I've had LTE before and it's eye opening fast, but I think HSPA+ is the golden ticket right now. It's very battery friendly and plenty fast enough for a mobile handset.
I've had 2 Gnex's (maguro and toro) and I can say that the battery on the Maguro Gnex is easily 50% better. As power hungry as these mobile platforms are these days, until they make improvements on LTE power consumption, I will not have another LTE phone as I've had 3 of them and they're all power hungry!
i think the question is better asked, price drop or cdma compatible? because this phone is useless to me having Sprint about to switch to Verizon network...

A cdma nexus just doesn't seem like a real nexus:

I definitely like the current price, I will be selling my att sgs3 for the nexus4 without a doubt in my mind. I don't really even get LTE in these parts of CT so lte is not a deciding factor at all.

My grandparents live in a rural area and its where I spend about 1/4 of the year. Tmobile and Att are GPRS, but Sprint and Verizon have 3g. Its the only internet there and I need reliable internet for work. I can't get the new Nexus.
I know I'm in a small boat of people but I'm still going to post my sob story. I just love the Nexus program.

while i agree the updates take longer... i also prefer to use Sprint/Verizon over GSM options...
I understand its coming to T-Mobile, but will the Nexus 4 work on AT&T's HSPA+ network?
I will take $350 price point over LTE.

I agree with you there, I'm not too big on LTE myself, mainly for the fact that the faster my data is being processed, the more money I have to spend on data overages. But that's just me.
I would pay $500+ for 32GB and LTE if only Google would give me the option and take my money.
Instead I'm stuck between choosing between a capable phone and one that will get updates.

Sounds like Fanboy talk to me. Brings me back to the Iphone 4s launch.
My GS3 gets great battery life and radios are getting better everyday.
No LTE is a dealbreaker. You can't honestly tell me that having this outdated technology is adequate. Not when most people keep heir phones for 2 yrs. T-mobile might not even be around in 2 yrs.
One of Androids biggest selling points is that they are always pushing the boundaries of technology. This is a huge step back.
One of the reasons, Apple products are so solidly built is they wait till the tech is old before they incorporate them into their products. I could get a cutting edge sailboat built but who uses sailboats. The Nexus 4 for is a cutting edge sailboat.
A 1.5ghz Quadcore Krait that's about a hair better than the International GS3. They could have at least gone Quad core Cortex A15.
All this so that I can have "Vanilla Android", if that's the price no thank you I'll stick with Cyanogenmod & AOKP.
Wouldn't mind a lte option but screw all the us carrier nonsense
Id rather have a dumb phone then have a CDMA device or anything at all to do with Verizon or sprint.

My guess would be that the Samsung Hummingbird chipset only supports 7.2 Mbps. Same as with the GSM Galaxy S series handsets.

To me, it doesn't matter. I live in a HSPA+ area and have never even come close to getting 7.2Mbps on a G2. Let alone HSPA+ speeds.
How many networks actually support those speeds anyways ?? I mean in reality not on paper. Besides, 7Mbps is enough for all mobile needs, a youtube 720p HD video averages around 2Mbps which is the highest bandwidth consuming task I can think of. Unless you are planning to tether it to a laptop and download huge files, which IMO is not a requirement for many users, since mobile data is pretty expensive.

But I understand entirely you're complaining about it, they're expected to make progress not regression(but that's technology, constructers choose what we will get...).
It's true "4G" isn't prominent right now. I'm guessing the disappointment comes when you try to see Nexus S as a phone into 2011, and beyond. Dropping $529 dollars for a phone that won't be taking advantage of "4G" speeds which all carriers are moving toward and pushing for, and which handsets are already featuring, doesn't seem future-proof, and maybe even a step back. It doesn't live up to the Nexus branding.
Agreed. I've decided to stay with my Samsung Epic (which has a bad ESN that I bought for $300 and I am using as an Android touch), and wait it out. When phones that come out that are compare to the Galaxy S as how the Nexus One overshadowed the Hero, I'll probably upgrade. Not then ... it's not worth selling my current phone.
I just about talked myself into ordering a GSM/HSPA GNote. Knowing that AT&T's 4G LTE was coming, but was probably months if not a year or 2 away from my area (USA, NY/NJ).
But just very recently I'm reading that AT&T unofficially "flipped the switch on" for LTE in some areas of New York City. Unfortunately the GNote's 4G won't be able to utilize LTE.
Yeah, I know 4G/HSPA+ is still decently fast...But a big part of the reason for me going GNote in the first place is for getting the latest and greatest. And with a radio that ain't going to be compatible with something that's already starting to come out, man that's just killing me!
So now I either wait for a Verizon version to hit the US shores (I'd rather NOT go with them!) or look at "skimping" back down to a smaller screen with the GNexus.
The LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus only works on Verizon. Honestly, I'd stick with the Galaxy Note until actually using LTE doesn't murder your battery or put you over a data cap.

There has been no information released to today that specifically indicates the Note will have LTE when/if it does comes to ATT. It has been seen at the FCC with the normal assortment of bands, but the only thing different was NOT the inclusion of LTE, rather a change in the model number (they added B) this could indicate as well that they took the physical button away as they did with the SG2.
No one but Sammy and ATT can say for sure that if/when the Note comes to the US that it will sport ATT's LTE network.

Have you been able to use it yet? Anyway that you can get a pic of just the front screen, or something showing ATT logo?
in for pics, this is great news for me, buuuut....i really wish the front face was blank. the samsung logo is annoying enough
If AT&T gets an LTE Note it will be Qualcomm, if people thought it felt slow in the Skyrocket... a screen with the Note's resolution will not be fun. I say hold off on LTE until gen 2 chipsets are out.

I don't find the Skyrocket slow at all, much quicker than my brother's ATT GS2. Some of you just look for things to complain about.
Seeking. Did you ever find a time to get some pictures of that Samsung Note for AT&T? I am really looking forward to it coming to AT&T. My upgrade is due up shortly.
I believe that guy was lying, or got scared. He has removed both posts that he made in reference to the ATT version.
Since he disappeared and never showed a pic, here is another story confirming the Note is headed for AT&T with LTE and the Snapdragon processor, along with a picture of it with four soft buttons. However there's something taped to it, presumably covering up the AT&T logo.

The Note LTE won't be the latest and greatest, it may actually be worse than the IshitPhone 4S.
The snapdragon processor is the ONLY SoC that works in LTE phones.
The snapdragon is laggy, inconsistant, and just not a good chipset.
Plus AT&T throttles you if you use too much data too fast, so no thank you. Good luck getting dev support too. The butchered snapdragon LTE **** Note will not be able to use our ROMs or Kernels.
The Galaxy Note LT**** is a no go for me.

BTW have you tried LTE? I have, on a Skyrocket and it is incredible. I may trade my Note in to get the AT&T one with LTE. side by side tests put the SKY TEN TIMES faster than the Note, and for some weird reason 2x as fast in non LTE and even wifi. I suspect they have made other changes to the radio that make it faster than what we have in the Note (but I cant prove this).
The only reason I wouldnt is the 4 capacitive buttons. Not that I dont like those (stops dirt getting caught there) but on this device, one handed, its far easier to hit the central button than the power button.

Everyone created clever names for overrated and generally crappy phones. For example, your phone the "****rocket" or an iphone, the "I****".
On a phone you would never notice 30-50mb downstream speeds unless you are downloading a movie, etc.
The slight speed advantage you receive from LTE over the Note is cancelled out by the Snapdragon. It seems you ignored the main part of my post saying that the Snapdragon is a TERRIBLE SoC. On the ****rocket and the T-mo SGSII, UI lag is prevalent as well as laggy transitions, and unreliable game performance.
The quadrant scores on ANY app reveal the unsteadiness of the Snapdragon when compared to the OG At&t SGSII. Many people including myself have tried the Vivid and the ****rocket and have noticed visible lag when going thru day to day tasks. I went to my local corporate store and tried one on the release day, I asked the rep and he said the model was not defective and then I tried my buddy's ****rocket and it was just as laggy. He ended up buying my OG S2 from me.
Another thing that will stop me from buying any LTE phone besides the fact that they all have Snapdragon SoC's is the butchering done by At&t to ALL their devices but especially to LTE devices.
I owned an AT&T OG SGSII and we had a decent 10-12 well known developers with nice ROMs. Then I took a look at the Skyrocket forums a couple days ago and saw 1 well known dev and another dev asking for donations...
It will be the same with the LTE Note, except most likely worse. That is very unsettling especially since the LTE Note is most likely not shipping with ICS unless its release is in Q2 2012. Then all buyers will be stuck on Gingerbread till someone ports it.
But yup, have fun with those speeds, I doubt those internet speeds will help you much in day to day activites on your phone but okay... Have fun waiting a year for ICS!

Now adays, att and the term **** go hand and hand. Sooner or later att will replace that word in meaning. Att has been moving to an iphone only serve. Att has been dead last with the newest android and windows offerings. It seems that att only caters to iphone users and is limiting bandwith to cater to the may iphone users. Until apple releases a 4g lte version of the iphone, thier lte network is not a priority.
Can't wait. Only an LTE Nexus on AT&T could make think twice about the Note.

On my Note, when I hit 10gigs of data, I got throttled even though it was day 29 of my billing cycle.
But... On my Iphone I used like 20gigs a month and never got throttled.
As long as the "Apple Cheerleader Effect" lives on, No cell company will ever cater to Android users.

Though I'm with T-Mobile (not AT&T) I am really looking forward to T-Mobile's release of the Note 2. I'd initially thought I would be using my Note 2 as a WiFi device only to replace my 10.1" tablet but I'm now finding the Note 2 to be an excellent platform for a phone as well. As long as T-Mobile includes WiFi calling and their version is stable I'll be selling my HTC Sensation 4G and upgrading to their version of the Note 2. My boy wants to replace his iPad2 with a WiFi only Note 2. I get the T-Mobile Note 2, my boy trades me his iPad2 for my unlocked international Note2, and I sell the iPad2 and my HTC phone to absorb some of the cost. I'm really looking forward to moving everything over to the Note2 (phone', data, tablet functions ). November perhaps?

How does the throttling of LTE work? Will they throttle you down from LTE to 3G or can you turn off LTE and then you get to burn through 3gigs 3G data too for a total of 8GB or is it when they throttle you you get throttled all the way down to EDGE like speeds?

Why would it be better to get the international version if the AT&T is $649? Is it cheaper or something. I'm in the states and don't travel over seas, although I don't live in a LTE city I often visit one that does. Also I think if order from Amazon I can take advantage of the sales tax loop hole and not pay that or shipping.

I'm in the same situation as you, waiting very patiently for a T-Mobile version (I NEED Wifi Calling... most ingenious idea EVER) while I try to dredge through the days with my Sensation 4G... I really hope it comes out early November... I don't think i can wait any longer!

I'm sure they will. I seem to remember seeing the SIII and you could get it off contract. How long I have no clue. As much as I hate to wait.

Specs on Samsung website state that HSPA+/LTE phones get about 7-15% less battery than 3G/LTE Note 2's. I wonder if that is because HSPA+ and it's variants drain more battery because it is faster, or the 3G/LTE antenna needs less power since 3G and LTE are both Qualcomm's technology probably needing one less antenna.

I usually purchase off contract with att. On Amazon the prices can be a bit higher initially for off contract. I usually get it from att or best buy as best buy is usually higher but will match the price. I just find it easier to switch it out locally in the first 30 days if there is an issue. I suspect 650 on att and slightly higher on amazon initially.
You are correct on the limits. I have not been throttled on my unlimited lte plan because I use wifi often. I have not used over 2.5 GB. I believe they used to throttle you to edge but now it is to 3g until the next monthly cycle starts over.

Thanks. If it's $650 on AT&T I'll just buy it there or go to BestBuy and get them to price match as I got a buddy who works there. You're right about the switching out. I have a cousin who is a AT&T manager but not on the wireless side. I wonder if she get's discounts on phones. I'd send her the money to get me one if the discount was large enough.
Same boat as you. I've never been throttled because I'm on Wifi most of the time also. So you're saying if I'm on LTE and use my 5GB, they'll throttle me to 3G? I'd never use that much on my phone but it's nice to have.
AT&T does need to speed up their LTE roll out. Verizon already has LTE here. Saw it on a coworkers iPhone5

Only on GSM networks. As much as I admire Google's desire for open access (thus no carriers involved), I still think they should have released a CDMA version with LTE...I'm stuck on Sprint on a family plan for at least another year, and i have no idea what phone I can get now -__-

I'd heard that Galaxy Nexus 2 rumor/leak was fake (it included a microSD card, and very little modification from the current GNex)...and I'm not really willing to wait 6+ months with my OGEpic

Why not? Is their something your epic can't do that these new phones can? Or are you one of the ones who needs the latest and greatest? Not that that is a bad thing, just curious as to why you're so anxious to get rid of a device that still functions perfectly even with the latest android version...

And as much as I would have liked them to make a CDMA/LTE model, Sprint and Verizon kind of were deserving of getting shafted due to how they handle things with manufacturers on their carrier. Removing their power in a not so literal way.

Nah, my epic is slowly falling apart (screen cracks, needs a new battery, among other things), and I don't have any need for a physical keyboard, meaning I don't need a phone this big.
And it's not really latest and greatest 2+ years after I got the device. Technology has moved further, and it'd be nice to have all the "comforts" of the phones of late 2012 - great, fast cameras, fast processor speeds, NFC, etc.
Again, I'm not anxious, I've had my upgrade available since July of this year, just wanting a good device worthy of an upgrade from the Epic, available on Sprint, which doesn't seem to be coming out any time soon.
I'm considering the N4. Sprint's service has been so "meh!" in my area for the last 6 years, that switching to Tmobile or a MVNO seems to be a nice idea. Here is an article that gives some insight as to why no LTE radio.

While I know that everyone has a different experience with their network, a side by side of LTE and HSPA+ shows that for the majority of users, HSPA+ will be perfectly fine (although most people considering a Nexus phone are probably power users), but the T-Mobile HSPA+ here in Denver beats the crap out of my WiMax network. My nephew has the Galaxy S 4G (not the S II) and it consistently gets speeds 25-30% faster than my average WiMax speeds. With the Nexus 4 it bears mentioning the added processing speed of the faster processor and additional RAM. I think overall Google may have made the right choice excluding LTE as it keeps the cost of an unlocked phone down. Has anyone seen what the iPhone 5 goes for? Or the SGS III? That they are producing this for 50% or less of other premium phones cost is amazing. Also, the Nexus 4 is SEXY

So a follow up on this, my friend on T-Mo with his SGS III just ran 6 speed tests for me of the HSPA+ network and his average DL in Denver was 21.73 Mbps and average UL was 2.36
Not as strong an upload as LTE, but the DL is about 5 times my average with WiMax and UL is pretty comparable.
LTE is a must feature, IMO. I like the fact that Google is sticking it to CDMA carriers, but it is a Pyrric victory. Nexus 4 sales will likely be sluggish, its specs notwithstanding. As for me, I no longer have any patience with Sprint (and its NetworkVision promises), and Epic, for all the wonderful dev effort, just isn't meant to run JB very well and now feels very dated when it comes to processing power and RAM. Going to get a VZW S3 in a few weeks.
There is now Sprint LTE in my area so I am rather anxious to upgrade. It is really too bad that the Nexus 4 is not going to be on Sprint and the Optimus G has less than stellar battery life and no removable battery/sd card, I guess even if the Nexus 4 was on Sprint it'd have the same downfalls.
If the SIII had the internals of the Note 2 (including the non-pentile screen), it'd be perfect.
N4 16GB ($350) + T-Mobile plan ($30 no contract) = FTW
Cannot resist that deal even with my Epic + SERO plan ($60)
Done with all this 4G/WiMax/LTE hype when in reality I hardly even use those speeds given the current coverage limitations.
Everyone is crying about the N4 not having LTE but honestly, who needs that? Aren't you guys connected to a wifi anyway for most of the time? HSPA or HSPA+ or whatever it's called fast enough to me.

Actually in my school campus there is highspeed wifi. The only time I need data is while I am driving or somewhere else. Also many times, devices switch off wifi to save battery. This can cause live updates to stop coming. That doesn't happen on mobile data.
Why should a brand new flagship phone NOT support the latest mobile standards?! If there were no need for LTE it wouldn't be available because nobody would use it.

As a T-Mo user, not me. But in a phone that is supposed to be the cream of the crop with all the latest technologies, I can kinda see why some people are slightly butthurt it's not included. With that being said, I definitely do not think it should be a deal breaker like some are claiming.
Don't get me wrong, but I love the speeds that 4g Lte offers, but paying for it its kind of expensive.

Keep in mind, there's always got to be a huge leap forward every year. For the past 3-4 years this has been the amount of cores and ram (specific chipsets aside). What the hell can they do next year, octo-core phone?
Another fanboi trying to justify no LTE... I swear these forums are worse than Apples sometimes.
I personally don't want LTE because there is no unlimited plan, it's too expensive and coverage sucks here in the UK. However am I going to start trying to tell people who are on LTE and enjoy it that they're wrong? Not releasing a new top end Smart Phone with an LTE model is a mistake.. just like it is a mistake to not have a Micro SD slot or a 32GB model.
This phone ha a small niche, it's for people who want to buy a mobile outright, however if you're on contract and getting an upgrade or signing for a new contract you might as well go for another mobile.

I thought LTE wasn't standard, but some Verizon-specific thing? If this is the case... I can see why the Nexus 4 doesn't have it... But do correct me if I'm wrong I've only heard of LTE with Verizon, but haven't actually looked into it at all (I just know it's something I'll probably not use).

All 4G helps with is downloading things. Browsing experience won't change much above 5mbps, after that it's all down to hardware/software

The lg optimus g has lte, its also twice the price. Is lte worth an extra $300 to you?
Personally it would be nice to have LTE because I live in a big city in Canada where there are 3 big carriers that offer LTE using the same bands. I always like to have the latest tech but other than that the nexus 4 seems to fit most of my needs with the DC-HSPA which my carrier also offers. I understand the cost issue but that aside if e phone has LTE than everyone will be happy because places without LTE people can still enjoy HSPA.

Just curious, has Google ever officially described what the Nexus program is? Where can I find out more information about it rather than just taking the words from third party people?
Never needed LTE and probably won't need it until it's shoved down my throat in the future. My current carrier only has 3 mbps (real performance) data connections and I only use it for Facebook, email, checking websites, so I don't really think I need LTE. Though, I'd be happy if they would at least give us true HSPA+ speeds at 21 mbps though...

I fully blame Verizon for botching the Galaxy Nexus release for this. It's just too much of a burden for Google to support. It takes Verizon and Sprint forever to roll OS updates, whereas other carriers just push the updates when Google releases them.
I will only get Nexus phones, and am on Verzion, so it's disappointing, but I know why,

But hey, the technology isn't wise spread yet either, so the benefit would only be to the US and some European countries. So I believe thay Google/LG decided not to hurry with putting that tech in their new phone for now. Nexus 5 is 100% gonna have it, or maybe LG is gonna release a 4G model later

The speeds of LTE are awesome. Everything else that goes with it is horrible.
The dual radios, lead to battery drain. My phone likes to get caught between 3G and 4G and I'm left with a hot phone in my pocket without signal.
The price of LTE, Verizon is just so expensive.
The fact that you can't make one phone fit all, all LTE implementations are different.
