preferred network type “unknown” ? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I want to change the preferred network type from the current setting of 'unknown'. I go into the tablet using the *#....access and it lets me see all the various info sections. When i go into phone Info I can see that the network type is 'unknown', so i go to change it to access the options for the network types (wcdma, gsm, etc), see what i want (which is WCDMA Preferred) but when i click on it, it just goes back to showing 'unknown'.
Can anyone help me understand why and what i need to do so that the preferred type stays locked in?

Band Switching

Does anyone know what methods the HD2, TG01 and s200 switch band modes? I like to use GSM only mode for phone calls and background data transfers like My Phone syncing and e-mail for better battery consumption, but using the engineering menu to switch bands is a bit of a pain.
Also, I find that my IQ never switches to GSM mode (G or E) when using the Automatic band setting. Does the eXpo exhibit the same behaviour? I'm wondering if Telus did something to prevent it from trying to switch to GSM mode automatically since they only have a 3G network.
My LQ have it. I want to switch only GSM band but can not. Select phone setting, have not band switch, only select network auto or manual. I try to install any software for manager GPRS, 3G, Band switch but software does not work or work but not effective.
I am very disappointed with the LG phone. Because selecting the Band is very importance for PDA.
If you are still using a stock ROM, then you will need to install the attached CAB. It adds the option to switch between 2G, 3G and Auto. You can find the setting under \Settings\Personal\Phone.
I have just installed this software, It work perfectly. I do not understand why LG have not been install this software from the original room?
From there, my LG battery save about 20 per cent more.

agreed. Also I am running one of darks roms, (not the current one) and it does not have the band switching option. do you know if I will save some battery even though I have a 2g only carrier (usa tmobile).
It's hard to say if it will make a difference. In 2G mode it won't even try to connect in 3G which it might be doing now.
This control panel applet was extracted from the GW825V ROM. I imagine if LG was to release a newer firmware for the eXpo, it would have it as well.

For saving battery when you switched 2G Band, you should reduce Backlight, normaly using ALC in Backlight setting.
So I came across this thread and figured since I'm on T-mobile as well it would probably save me some battery power since I consistently see a notification on my phone telling me it's trying to connect to 3G. Anyways, after I installed the cab it seamed to have jumbled up a lot of the text in LG settings (I use it because it's easier to navigate than the WM settings). The functions in the settings still work the same as they should, but the text prompting you as to what they do is completely different. For example instead of the text 'settings' it says 'use as' and instead of 'date and time' it says 'password prompt if device ....' and instead of 'security' it says 'please turn on bluetooth' and so on. This only seems to happen in the LG settings and not the WM settings. Any ideas how to get this program to work without the issues I listed?
Unfortunately, LG likes to make life difficult for us.
In order for this to work, I had to include LGString.dll and LGString.dll.0409.mui from the GW825V. The MUI doesn't match up with the version of LG Settings on your phone.
If you want I can put together a version without replacing those two files. I believe it should work except you wouldn't have any text on the Band Settings tab.

That would be great actually. I don't need to be able to see the text as long as you tell me what each one is. Plus I'd only be using it the one time to turn on 2G only. Thanks.
Just to clarify, you are using a LG eXpo on the T-Mobile USA network?
The CAB I posted adds the option to manually set the bands between auto, GSM and UMTS(3G). The option is found under \Settings\Personal\Phone. Does this work on your phone? Making a new cab without the extra files will correct the issues with LG Settings but it will not make the feature work if it doesn't already.

Sorry, I thought I replied to this last week. I must have forgotten hit submit. Anyways, yes I am using the LG expo on T-Mobile USA network. Also while using the CAB you posted the features did work just that the LG settings were having issues like I was talking about. Thanks.
Actually, if you don't intend to switch back and forth, you can just go into the engineering menu and switch it to GSM mode there.
Dial : 3845#*820#
Modem setting\Band Setting\Select GSM
This way you don't need to worry about installing anything.
The control panel option is nice if you like to have the option to switch back and forth without going into the engineering menu.

S4 I9505 no 3G but only G

hello all
bought the second hand phone with this network issue.
after trying some roms, wifi fixes, network fixes, root settings, finally stopped on pyrana rom but during all those, couldnt find out what could be the reason for the mobile network.
and also realized that the imei number is not same as behind, could that be the reason? any chance to change that? or any tips to get 3G?
using tele2 in Holland, used my sim in another phone, 3G working
also used another sim from Tmobile in this phone, again only G no 3G.
thanks from now

Goto Settings, tap the Connections tab, goto More Networks, then tap on Mobile Networks. What does your Network Mode say?
Are you on GSM only or are you on either LTE/WCDMA/GSN (Auto connect) or WCDMA/GSM (Auto connect)?
If you're on WCDMA, it could possibly be an access point problem, or maybe a modem issue?
thanks for trying to help man. im on lte/wcdma/gsm auto...
just flashed to omega v28 4.4.2 but again no luck... still only G

Have you checked your APN? Is it set up correctly?
Where it says More Networks, tap on Access Point Names and check yours is set up correctly.
You should be able to find the APN details online through google
yep.. did that auto, manual, copying from another phone, didnt work. and the imei is still diffrent than the one behind the phone. still thinking that could cause the problem. :/

Looking on Google, it seems some people have had a bit of luck with this issue after doing a Manual Roam.
That involves going into Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks then tap Network Operators. Wait for it to scan and then choose another network to try and connect too. It'll fail. Then go back and do it again, but this time select your network operator and it'll connect.
It's worth a try?

Did you say that the IMEI number shown in Android is different than the one printed behind the battery?
If so, that says to me that the phone was once reported stolen at one point, blacklisted and someone has changed the IMEI number to get it off the blacklist and back on the network.

Well, the IMEI number behind the battery will be the phones proper IMEI number.
I think the only way you'll find out if it's been reported stolen is to contact your network and give them the IMEI on the phone (behind the battery) and ask them. Or you could pay for an online check. I'm sure theres a few companies that offer online checks. Keep in mind if the original IMEI is blacklisted, you won't be able to get it removed. Only the person who reported it stolen, and can provide proof it was theirs when it was reported can get it removed.
I'm not too sure how you'd go about changing it back to it's original IMEI, but if the original IMEI has been blacklisted, then as soon as you do change it back, you won't be able to use your phone at all. All data/voice services will stop working.

i checked the imei writing in the phone, and here is the result
imei.info/phonedatabase/2500-sony-ericsson-k530/ (copy paste pls. i cant send the link because im new here)
i actualy have a sony ericson which i didnt know
maybe the provider is seeing my phone as sony ericson, and that phone doesnt support 3G... hmmm now i have to find a way to change the imei.
if its reported, then i come back to this
That's your problem right there. Your phone has likely been reported stolen in the past and someone has changed the IMEI to allow it back on the network.
It's possible that the phone who's IMEI has been taken doesn't support 3G so network isn't providing it to your phone.

[Q] Lost LTE/4G

My very first post but a long time reader!
Somewhere along the way I lost LTE / 4G. It shows only 3G. Since I am almost always on WiFi, I just recently noticed it. I am on NI2 and 12.6 of OtimalROM. I am in a known 4G area as two other phones in my house are showing 4G - one is another S5. I have tried swapping SIM cards and it made no difference.
Under About / Status - it shows the following:
- Network: Verizon Wireless
- Mobile Network Type: eHRPD
- Service State: In Service
- Roaming: Not Roaming
- Mobile Network State: Connected
- MIN, PRL Version, ERI Version, IMEI, IMEISV, ICCID all have information in it.
When I type *#0011#, I get:
- No Service
- NETWORK: UNBLOCK
- IMEI Certi: PASS, 1
- Unknown
I have tried installing another ROM, ODIN an earlier version of the modem - without luck.
Any suggestions on how to get 4G back?
Not sure if this helps but I tried something I had not tried before. I went into ServiceMode (*#0011#) and then placed the phone in airplane mode and then turned it back on while watching what would happen. This is what I observed...
1. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xnikrs6lmnk1x0d/1.png?dl=0
2. https://www.dropbox.com/s/60c3qv7rtckqdx7/2.png?dl=0
3. https://www.dropbox.com/s/c57ibulvhl64g6l/3.png?dl=0
#1 occurs as soon as I turn off airplane mode
#2 occurs about a second before #3 appears
The other s5 in my home belongs to my spouse and is not rooted so I can't see what her ServiceMode settings are. I can see that her Mobile network type is LTE while mine says eHRPD.
Thanks again for any help.
I also have this problem, nice to see I'm not the only one. I was ready to think it was a hardware issue. I have tried all number of things. Have you at any point been on NK2? I'm on a Dev Edition S5, but stuck without LTE. Hoping someone can come up with a suggestion. My phone status reads the same as yours.
I'm hoping someone will have a fix as well. I have to think it is a setting in a config somewhere that got changed.
I'm on NI2. Have not tried NK2.
I was probing around in my build.prop file. I don't want to change anything in there because I really don't know what I am reading.
Is it possible that there is a setting in there that got changed?
I have looked to see if I can find a "stock" build.prop somewhere but no luck.
Can someone possibly provide me with their build.prop so I can compare my settings?
Thanks everyone.
how does one use that servicemode code? sorry I don't have anything to offer about your problem...
I typed that code into my dialer and nothing happened... actually dialing that number just gives me a message saying Verizon can't connect my call...
Open file /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu and modify its content from OFF to ON. Then reboot the phone.
I am on a Verizon s5 and I also lost LTE/4G. Also I cannot select any APN or mobile network. Any luck on your situation?

Sorry...I have not. I finally did a complete wipe of everything and took the phone back to stock - no safestrap, no root. I still had the problem. i don't know if there is a file on my SD card its pulling from. I have not taken the initiative to reformat my card. It's 128 GB and is half full. I don't want to even tackle that - as I really don't think that is the problem. I also don't think it is hardware though. Don't really know what else to do other than wipe the phone back to stock and replace it with another.
Well guys - I got 4G back!!!
Even though I'm still waiting for OptimalROM r13, I decided to install Extreme Syndicate OA8 in the meantime. I don't know why but it's back!!
I have imei cert pass 1 but still no service what now?

Reset radio band

Ok I really derped hard. I use the *#*#4636#*#* menu to change my network type between 2G,3G and LTE as needed. The one under Cellular Network Settings doesn't work all the time as it chooses the selected type as 'preferred' whereas the service menu forces it.
I don't know why I did it, I went to the 3 dot menu in the hidden service menu and chose "Select radio band" and clicked on USA band which was the first option. [DO NOT TRY THIS ,THERE'S NO WAY TO REVERT]. I'm not in the US and now I've lost signal reception on my phone and since then I've flashed the radio image numerous times from the bootloader, even flashed my bootloader, radio, boot image, cache, system all over to no use. I am not getting any signal on my phone. I had done the same once on my Nexus 5 but don't remember what I did to fix it. I'm still trying everything I can think of. A full factory reset didn't help either. The SIM card is fine,I tried it on another phone. Please help.
maybe try flashing an older image. and then see? Also check the nexus 6 forums, I believe someone did something similar and i assume found a fix.
Were you ever able to figure out how to fix this? I ran into the same issue.
If you are on Verizon, select Band 6 on that Menu & let your phone sit for 10 minutes so that it register on the network again with new settings.

signal problem

Hello,
If the problem has mentioned before, please excuse me in advance.
My wife owns a p8 lite(ALE-L21C150B595). I have this problem which i think occured just right after the last OTA system update(B595).
The phone has full signal only when the selected network type is ¨only GSM''. When i choose LTE/WCDMA/GSM or WCDMA/GSM, it losts completely the signal. The signal in my place is excellent, i own a honor 8 and is always on 4G, and also the p8 lite before the problem occured, had 4G also. I tried a factory reset(without erasing the files), but the problem persists. I also tested if the sim card had the problem. I entered my sim card in p8lite and the same signal problem occured.(I could not place p8lite sim in Honor because is takes nano-sim).
As you understand, the ''only GSM'' is not problem in calls and the general phone functions, but when i turn on the data usage, the internet is very very slow(i have not even 3G!!). Any help or suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Hi.
EDIT: Having skipped the obvious the phone is Single-SIM, right? These may have a delay of up to three minutes before connecting to a 3G or 4G network. It's not a feature, it's a bug.
Maybe you just flased a ROM with the wrong channel-set or band mode for the hardware of the phone. The ROMs have a special band mode for the LTE and 3G channels and that is shown in that number behind the C (CUST number), in your case C150.
Is the phone originally a C150? Is the ROM the same C150?
If not, flash the correct ROM for your region.
Another hack may be (not working on all ROMs):
Install "QuickShortcutMaker" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut
Root will not be needed.
STOP here and rethink. This app is a mighty thing and you can do a lot of things on your phone that are hidden otherwise. Be careful and responsible, not to mess up everything and avoid being forced to a factory reset. Anyway, if you mess up something with this app, there will nothing be broken forever, just factory reset and all will be fine again, except for SIM card, which might be garbled up and rendered useless if you choose the wrong action. Be careful. You are responsible for whatever you do.
Now if you are acknowledging this and willing to go on, start that app and set search type to "simple".
Leave the search field empty.
Scroll to "settings" (or whatever it is called in your language) with the cogwheel icon.
Open/unfold this with a tap.
Now search for a line that is subtitled (tiny small letters) with "com.android.settings/com.android.settings.BandMode" (maybe the one behind "proxy settings" in the list, but this may vary)
Tap that line. The next page comes up. Change the label name of the shortcut to be made to "Band Mode" and tap "create/add"
Now you have another icon on your app screens. With this, depending on the ROM you flashed, you may now select the band mode maually.
Even if it throws an error, this does not mean it failed. This menu has just not been fully woven into the system. Check if 4G or 3G work now, this will be the only true indicator.
EDIT: And another hack would be:
Use QuickShortcutMaker to make a shortcut to a setting subtitled as "com.android.settings.DualCardSettings". It is in the list under settings, even on single SIM phones. Use this to check if the used SIM slot is correctly defined as the 4G/3G slot and data link, and correct if necessary.
good luck

First of all thanks for your advices.
The phone is single-sim,not rooted.I have not rooted it,or flashed any custom ROM. The only updates out has, are the originals which they came ota.Its a branded phone from the biggest carrier here on Greece(cosmote). I know there is a delay to have 3g or 4g, but this one has not signal (service) at all when i change the option to LTE. i am willing to check the solution you give me, but only when i am out of the obvious and easy possibilities. As for th right band that you mentioned, i think this isn't a possibility, because it used to work properly all the previous time, and the problem occurred 3 weeks ago. I told you before that is official and i have not flash or root anything at all.I have the feeling that the problem has to do with the last ofiicial update(if it ia not a problem of the sim itself)
Στάλθηκε από το FRD-L09 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk
Well, then try to get the most recent update.
Or try the hacks with QuickShortcutMaker app.
When using this, just do not select anything that has to do with SIM, and you are on the safe side. Better than nothing.
Maybe the carrier disabled the SIM 3G and 4G features. Ask them.
It is very hard to help over a long distance. Sorry.
