Communication software lowering audio of metro apps - Windows 8 General

Hello XDA, I'm having a bit of a problem with my audio.
I spend a lot of my day in a Google Hangout with long time friends of mine too far away to see in person. Windows 8 lets me do this perfectly fine besides when I want to listen to music simultaneously. I know in Windows 7 it did this as well, where when Hangouts was open it would lower volume to my music apps. I could fix this by just going into the control panel and disable the volume reduction of 80% and be done with it. But this doesn't work with Metro apps. If I'm playing audio through Slacker, as soon as the app goes into the background is reduces the audio by 80%.
Anyone know how I could fix this? I assume it's just a bug where the control panel on the desktop interface doesn't interfere with metro volume control, but the apps do.
Anything is appreciated.

i already question that to the support of Microsoft.. not answered yet.. but i think in maybe an update will come the volumen control to the metro apps.

I hope they can fix this. It's also annoying that the "Metro" apps don't have the individual volume controls that were introduced in the "Mixer" feature in Vista.

Running apps, voice feedback and music levels

Anyone on here use any of the runners applications,
I have tried practically all of them and the problem I am coming up against on the Galaxy is they all use the music level to speak out the voice announcement, which is far to loud if I have my music up.
is there anyway around this or anyone know of an app that enables you to adjust the level of the announcement lower ?

[Q] Music on Android

I really want to buy an Android device ( d: ) , but I'm not sure if there is that big of variate of mods and programs to make listening to music easier on Android.
I am used to an iPod Touch (jailbroken) with music controls over the volume rocker (I've read CyanogenMod has that !) and a real fast/easy way to listen to music.
After researching on the net, I have found some really nice programs like PowerAMP, but since I don't own an Android device, i can't really tell how good everything works and what else there is.
Of course I'd read myself into how to root and so on, and I'd do anything to make my next phone a good music player !
So what do you think are really important mods/programs for making music on Android easier and better ?
In my opinion, PowerAMP is the best music player for Android. You modify everything on the equalizer. Of course you've got presets (this way is easier for my). The biggest problem with the application is its price !! you've got a free trial period, but after, you've got to pay...
the default music player on Android gets the job done it just doesnt look good. Id advise just buying a Zune HD or and iPod Touch for your music
Well I have an iPod Touch, but i HATE carrying both an iPod and a phone (a brick right now )
Would it be possible to get the volume-rocker control for music to work with PowerAMP (<-- i dont care if it costs a little. As I've said, I'd do almost anything ) ??
Music controls do work with the volume rocker, track up and down, with PowerAMP. I'm sure CyanogenMod has an impact on that feature though. I think the mod is the fact that the command for blue tooth track next is mapped to the long press volume function, same with the lockscreen controls.
So you are saying that skipping (short hold of up/down) and pausing (power button ?) songs works on PowerAMP "out-of-the-box" (without root ?) ?
And also if I'd like to put CM on my device, it's possible that the functions would interfere ?
No, like I said, not stock. I use trackball wake so I can't comment on that.
so what would i have to do to get the functions like that to work with PowerAMP ?
Root and install CM6x
I use Lithium Player and I love it. It has a unique UI and can fetch album art as well. The player allows you to make playlists and customize the color of the UI. The player also finds playlists from other music apps on the phone, so that you don't have to keep remaking playlists. If you have any problems or concerns, just email the dev and he will reply back in a timely manner. Me and the dev are actually working on something big right now, and if you want to help, please visit my site at futurinnovations.blogspot.com.
Youll have A TON of options. Different players with different feature sets etc.
Trackball/vole skip etc are all available. Dont be afraid to root. Most of the time your device will have a simple one or few step solution.
If youre on here then you are already part of a tremendous community and have a stack of info and help at your fingertips.
With PowrAmp options , the interface , the widgets , lock screen controls etc and most of all the custom EQ make it a much better music experience than an Iphone/Ipod.
DoubleTwist makes Itunes syncing easy if its a MUST.
Winamp features wireless syncing.
Again really a no brainer. Music/sound quality will vary from device to device.
If you just want the best sound neither Android/Apple offer that. Perhaps theres an Android device that does have some great sound hardware but all in all smaller portable players with better sound chips will be a better choice in audiophile terms.
Good headphones + Poweramp are the next best thing. Plus you get the best damn communication OS/devices available off a desktop so go for it.
Mortplayer
One really good FREE Solution to all the features i read about PowerAMP is
MortPlayer... (DL widgets separately).
- lockscreen widget, playing from folders, playlists, volume controls etc.

How to stop Spotify pausing when receiving a notification?

Hi all,
Anyone happen to know how to stop Spotify from stopping playback for a second when a notification comes in from another app with Android 4.2?
Cheers!
That's a feature but some apps lower the volume for a second then raise it again while others pause.

Probably an obvious solution, but you can always kill notification sounds and just have it vibrate as an alert. Spotify shouldn't pause.
I have also always been annoyed by this. The apps playing the notification sound are the ones that determine if the music is paused or not right? I know that Chomp SMS has an option to NOT play notifications when playing music. So apps know when music is playing and can avoid the interruption.
I haven't seen other apps with that option, at least not the others I commonly use. So what I do is I have notifications disabled for most of my apps, but I like to know when I get a Gmail message, and Gmail will always pause my music (unless I set the phone to vibrate) which I don't like.
The main problem is when I stream music to my little Belkin audio gateway at home. If I set it on vibrate/silent, I can't hear the phone ring because the ringtone does not play through the A2DP music profile. I don't always have the phone with me because my range is limited (can't wait for a miracast affordable streaming audio solution).
I would love the music volume to be lowered while the notification plays, and then restore volume when it's over. Is there a ROM that does this? I know I used some ROMs on my EVO that did it, but don't know if there's a Nexus 4 ROM that will do the same.
I did set up a task with Automateit to set the phone to vibrate when Spotify is open. I think it will only do that when music is playing and not if the app is running in the background, but when downloading a playlist, it will do the same. Tasker probably has a better trigger so that it does this when music is playing, but I didn't want to pay the $7 for it today.
Shush! is another option if you know how long you will be listening to music, you can tell Shush to turn your ringer back on after an hour, but it's still not perfect.

I know on some ROMs, like paranoid, you can revoke specific privileges and permissions for each app. Could we remove Spotify's ability to know the phones notification state?

[Q] Handsfree music control

I am commuting every day and using Waze app for traffic. I also connect my Nexus 4 to the AUX port of my car for music. Since the Waze app is always on, I need to pull the notification bar down to reach the music controls. However, the buttons are very small and due to the distraction it is actually dangerous trying to select the next track. Is there a better way to control the music player in this situation? An app would let me say a voice command to change the song I am listening and so on? Thanks!
Overlays
I haven't found a perfect solution, but I downloaded "Overlays" from the play store.
I use Rocket Player, so I created a profile that overlays one of the Rocket Player Widgets over the Waze App while it's running. It's not ideal, but it's better than me having to drop down menu, similar to yours.
Ideally I'd like Waze to interact with my player so I can use it hands free.
Hope this helps!

BEST audio player for ANDROID head units

Greets all!
I've just joined the Android Head Unit community with the installation of the ATOTO A6 (A6Y2721PB).
So far I love it with the exception of a few minor gripes.
The audio player that comes with it has terrible sort functions. OR basically non-existent sort functions. It categorizes (very badly) the music library into a few categories (Singers, Songs, albums, folders) and all poorly and inaccurately. If there was some useful sort functions under FOLDERS; this wouldn't be so bad, but there is not. It will not even sort alphabetically. It will sort by the number of tracks that is in each folder. That is worthless!
So I'm looking for a better player. I really don't care about STREAMING services support. It comes with Spotify and Pandora already and I don't use them. I'm interested in playing my 1000+ track music archive in the FLAC format. BUT I have to have adequate sort functions. Most all of my archive was not CD rips that does the CDDB encoding. I backed up all my original collection into WAV files a decade ago and that is the source. The only think I miss is the album art. The easy way is to have the album art store in each folder entitled folder.jpg. Many players will display that many don't recognize it. Also I need the player to support widgets so I can integrate the player into the home screen.
I've tried Foobar2000 and like the functionality but it is UGLY with only B&W menus and it does not support widgets. I'm going to try VLC but not sure it will handle music files as well as it does video.
Any suggestions out there?

There are many, many Android music players out there.... While opinions may differ based on users' experience, there's really only one that stands out for the use in a HU: PowerAMP . For me it's the player that has everything and is fully integrated in the Android system:
Great Audio ducking
Configurable widgets
Support for folders (and folder.jpg)
If not present, album art download
Has its own audio engine
Support for almost every car launcher
Beautiful album art support
and many more...
It takes some time to configure it the way you want to (don't need the visualizer for instance), but (almost) everything can be adjusted.
But to get the most out of if (that goes for every player), be sure to have your music properly tagged
I've got an old video on YouTube showing some PowerAmp footage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT0ewLZ8mOc

That's nice, but would not it be better if it have a integrated DSP chip in combination with poweramp?

Great, this is what I was looking for. I see the paid version is only about 4 bux. I'll try it and see if it does what it needs to. I'm ready to uninstall the player than came with the unit. Nothing but frustration.

Well it all depends on your speakers off course and I don't have a DSP. But I can tell you that on the Head Unit I have, the original sound was ok. After using and enabling PowerAmp's own engine and equalizer, sound was far, far better.
However, using Viper4Android (if you're HU is rooted) takes the sound to another level. I didn't even know my stock car speakers could produce such rich basses... I guess having a DSP would give you similar results.
Well gentleman,
I installed PowerAmp and paid the 4 bux for the full version.
Overall I really like it's feature and silky smooth operation. The issue I have is that the sound output level is about HALF of the other audio apps. This is a big problem since I have to turn the volume up much more to hear it's playback. I went under the audio tab and made different changes to the setting trying to get more output from it but no dice.
I'm going to email the developer on the issue. But otherwise this one is a keeper, I really like it's functionality.
BTW, The Atoto A6 does have it's own DSP chip for audio processing.

PowerAmp has a separate master volume control. Have you tried that? Also the equalizer has a master gain.

Yeah, I got on the PowerAmp site and looked through their FAQ page. It recommended turning DVC off if you have volume problems.
I'll try that after work today.
ive been using Power Amp for a while on my android head unit. It is the best of the bunch. The latest update has created issues playing music so until a new stable release was offered, I tried a few others and the rest are just okay. VLC was actually pretty good but I found that most of the players won't pass audio file text to the home screen widget and won't display my album art. So I am back to power amp. the dev has sent me a link to an alpha build that should fix my issue. I have just been too lazy to install it.
I got the widget working and was able to turn off the DVC function. The volume level is back to normal now so I'm really loving PowerAmp. It has features I really don't need or want but at least I can turn them off so they won't cause havoc unlike the other players I tried.
As far as the DVC function it seemed like a good thing but it just cut the sound output way too low. Reading on the PowerAmp site it stated that incompatibility with DVC will cause this. I'm wondering that this means. This unit (Atoto A6) has it's own DSP for audio affects like EQ etc. I'm wondering if that is the issue.
I also have a forward facing camera for the DVR and a backup camera. Plus various part to make all the USB connections accessible to the passenger compartment. I planned to install all that this weekend. Well didn't happen. The washing machine blew up and we ended up in town all day shopping for a replacement. Will get to it soon.

GMMP is the best pick if you have a large music collection. I have 40k+ tracks on a mechanical HD on my head unit. GMMP will play through them no problem with an initial delay of about 30 seconds for the scan to get going. Poweramp craps itself and hangs for long periods of time (up to 60 minutes) while it scans/updates it's library. And then takes about 20-30 seconds to skip a track.
So my votes:
Small music collection, go for Poweramp.
Large music collection, go for GMMP.
I probably tried more than 20 apps, in the end it was Neutron that gave me the best results, I play only flac and have like 240 GB of them in my car, it works really flawless but you need to take the time to adapt it to your likes since really everything can be configured
http://neutronmp.com/
I've been using this for about 5 months, it's nice.. only thing bad is, it doesn't like to start in the SD card folder after starting up after being shutoff, so I have to manually browse to the SD card fold every time I start my truck..
It seems as all the dsp features do work.. there's a million things and settings in this paid app, seems to get updated regularly.. I wish it would leave the track list on screen all the time if wanted

Wow;
Not had that issue. What ever is playing it all mutes until the phone call is done on my ATOTO.
There are a ton of setting for everything in Power amp. Look through the settings and see if you can find a mute on call feature.
Have anyone been able to get an ipod to play through any app?

just tried this app, having similar issue. I think for me at least it gets totally confused when I plug in or disconnect another UDB drive. It seems as tho my HU(IDoing) shifts the USB volumes and neutron loses it's library. Otherwise the app seems near perfect.
