3 questions about buying Windows 8 in India - Windows 8 General

1.The internet speeds of India are crap, what with the Internet being disconnecting all the time. I want to know if there are plans to ship the Windows 8 dvd to India before the $69 promo offer gets over(Before the 31st of Jan).
2.Also, can i legally buy Windows 8 dvd from any other outlet such as Amazon (tell me the other alternatives also).
3. My friend is downloading Windows 8 from the web site (he has better internet i guess). Since he'll be burning the dvd anyway, can i use that dvd to install windows, and then afterwards buy only the product key?? I am not interested doing anything illegal.

You can buy the thing for 1,999 INR plus 1,099 for DVD delivery (Just bought the digital download from MS' official upgrade assistant). You can use the disk she burned as long as you use your own key, there's no harm in that.

firstly, internet connection of YOURS is crap and not India. probably change the carrier or the plan and see. Sure it ain't Google project spot as Kansas, but yet....
and as dragoon123 said, you can use the disk and get the key within the time and punch it in.
regards,
achyut.

Has this guy completely misunderstood my question? He thinks you can't buy a product key.

Seems so, you can very well buy a product key and use an existing DVD. Bought two keys myself.

Let me warn you. I am not supporting piracy here, but once I tried downloading the Consumer Preview and the net disconnected a couple of times. But the download went on.
When I tried installing, the file was corrupt.

Rs 1,999 each from Microsoft's official upgrade tool. You can pay additional Rs 1,099 for a physical DVD.

No, my question is that if you bought 2 product keys, how much did MS charge you for the keys? 2000 or more? Do you mean that you downloaded the copy 2 tines?
And what are you talkin bout buying a physical DVD for another 1k? We can't buy a DVD in India.. I checked that a hundred times... It would have been the best option for ne but well..its not possible, not at least in India.. :banghead:

2000 each, so 4000. No, I didn't have to download the copy two times, I just needed two keys. And the windows upgrade assistant gives me an option for a DVD for 1,099. Never used it though.

After downloading windows 8 after successful payment they give us option to save as iso image , as usb storage or direct install..
I had install that download in iso image and burnt it in dvd . I think no need to purchase DVD ...
This is my personal view..

You can create a fake amazon.com account using a fake us address (i googled for one) and your set as long as you don't try to get a paid for app for that you would need an american based credit card.
Thx i grabbed the app (same method listed above)
Just downloaded and tested, worked perfectly with my WiFi printer, Canon MX880.
The app does work great. I downloaded and installed the printer sharing app and can print to my office's network printers no problem. Not even sure if you need to do that, but it worked for me.

This is a great app. I liked it before but hated the price so I bought Printbot for something like 25-33% of the cost. Sad part is that I bought it just a few weeks ago! I still grabbed this one though.

Is there anyway to get Amazon to send a email for the free app of the day?
Wow, digging up an old post, lol. Why not just take the 30 seconds out of the day to manually check? lol. Make yourself a calendar reminder for every day of the year, if you really can't remember, and voila.
I didn't know I have that app. I just tried printing something from Google doc and it works! Amazing!
Edit : I use this app called my daily free Amazon app. You can set a time, and it will notify you of what free app for that day. I set it to 10pm everyday, because I'm usually home during that time so I could use wifi to download

What I don't get is that when it releases, you can purchase a digital upgrade from ANY* Windows edition starting at $40. If you have recently bought a PC, you can get the upgrade for $14.99. It's not like the OS is priced to be out of reach of most anyone.
*Any meaning WindowsXP and higher.

If everyone thought the same there would never be a new version, because the company could get in financial trouble.
This is not the case with Microsoft, but that doesn't mean it's OK to pirate their software.
But hey, I get it, you're a cheap ass fool...
I get being a cheap bastard, I am too. But when an upgrade is $40 for a generational operating system, you really have to wonder at what price people like this would buy it. $40 for a tech piece is a drop in the bucket

I would really edit that out since it constitutes fraud. It's not your fault that Microsoft doesn't check (I'm sure there are a ton of technical/legal hoops to jump through to get all of the vendors' customer info), but please don't leave that out in the open.

I think it is highly unlikely that you would get away with that. I am sure they have some mechanism to examine the information we give regarding the purchase. A money hungry company like Microsoft is unlikely to just give away the opportunity for people to rob them blind. Also, it is definitely not legal.

Free 50 Gb Google cloud storage

I discovered this by accident (& fortunately in time) that with a purchase of a new Moto G, if you access Google Drive within 30 days you can click to take advantage of an additional 50 Gb of cloud storage on your Google account for 2 years at no cost!
You snooze - you lose!
I think everyone who owns a moto g know this. no need to open a thread for this.

In my case (XT1028 Verizon) I have never activated the phone so it appears the countdown started when I first entered my Google account credentials.
The first visit to Drive on the device starts with a tutorial & on the last page presents the clickable offer.
I've bought first the 8 gb version and activated the 50Gb promo, but soon after I discovered a dead pixel on the screen and returned the phone back. Misfortune did not allow me to exchange or buy a new one, since they were all sold out and I bought 16 Gb in another country, so now I both have 50Gb in GDrive and 16 Gb on the device Sorry for a little boasting So I guess the next guy who buys the fixed device wouldn't get google's promo, right?

Why not try man? Just open Google drive and see if you get the offer(if the 30 days are not over yet).
The reason for me to skip this and several other simular past offers, is that it is temperary. With prices gDrive dropped I almost took a cheap subscription with Google. The reason I didn't is that Drive only works with Windows with all cloud files permanently synced on harddrive. I find that ridiculous. When I use cloud I want to spare the space on my hard drive. OneDrive and Box I can use in Windows without the need to have all those gigabytes of data on my hard drives at all times.

The downside of using cloud storage and not having optic fiber is that it's not really effective... We shall wait Google fiber worldwide and probably that will give us direct unlimited connection speed to Google.

6-8 weeks once its confirmed. Who knows how long it will take to confirm. I will assume it is probably 3-4 months to get the check.
Still odd why no specifics if this deal covers full price or not. The wording is vague and that is being kind.
The bb deal says trade in value may vary, so you could just get $10 for that $10 phone.
The Samsungish promotion is fishy.
sent using mobile data only. no broadband in Rural America as was promised by both Presidents Bush & Obama.
I called two local Best Buys and was told you simply get whatever the value of your trade in is. I'm trading in an HTC Evo 4G, I get $22.00 off of a Note4.
EDIT: But buying through Sprint, their website says Samsung will "match" your trade in value up to $200.00.

Well I called "two" BBs and neither knew anything about it. One guy even put me on hold for like three minutes come back and said he checked all his resources and couldn't find anything but the trade in for phone value deal. If anyone checks and gets other wise by all means let us know. Facts only though guys, be sure to check deep if you hear that so and so said..

Works for me on my PC. Earlier this afternoon a BB employee and me couldn't get the site to come up on our phones and we were standing in the middle of the store!
I had to switch to Web view to get it working on my phone.
