Hello! I created a new xda account with my new gmail account, anyways, I used to have a verizon fascinate and am no stranger to device tampering. My name is Gabriel and am a huge fun of the nexus 7! anyways, so i flashed over Clemsyn1.5extremeUndervoltedFINAL.zip using google nexus 7 tookit and twrp recovery. I received an OTA update getting me to JZO54 a while back and i think this is my issue. After the flash, it went to boot up and was stuck at the x screen the whole 8 hours i was asleep! i would very much like this kernel to work because im tired of choppy framerates! If someone has been in this situtation and has a kernel suggestion and maybe "how to" guidance. Im in the team win recovery project ready to flash kernel but i dont know how to install a zip that isnt already in my internal storage! this is where im stuck. I also would like an overclocked 1.5 cpu/gpu to 600 kernel if possible, thats what the original one i had tried to flash was. Please help me install another kernel and let me know where to get this kernel and links would be appreciated!!! i know this is a great community and hope to hear from someone today or soon
Welcome! Clemsyn's kernel currently doesn't work with Android 4.1.2, only 4.1.1 you need to flash another kernel.

thank you! yes i figured that out the hard way..... but what i need help with is flashing another kernel without being able to mount my tablet to my computer so i can move the new zip file with the kernel in it. also, i can go back to stock but i have been looking for a moderate cpu kernel like 1.5 and a gpu clock off 600, i dont know if this is only available to clemsyn's but just figured i would ask

Clemsyn's kernel was updated a few days ago to work with 4.1.2, and I can verify that it works very well. I believe he started a new thread that has a link for the new kernel.

thanks for that info! ill give a search but a link would be appreciated. Its seeming to get hard and harder to find info with the mass of topics around here. Anyways, i still do not know how to do this. can someone please help me? haha my issue is
HOW DO I FLASH A ZIP WITH TEAM WIN RECOVERY WHEN I CANNOT MOUNT MY TABLET TO MY COMPUTER THUS THE ZIP NOT BEING IN THE ROOT OF THE TABLET? IS THERE A WAY TO FLASH ANOTHER KERNEL WHILE I AM STUCK IN EITHER FASTBOOT OR ENDLESS LOOP BOOT WITH THE X IN THE SCREEN? I DONT KNOW HOW TO FLASH A ZIP IN THIS SITUATION. I KNOW HOW TO FLASH IT NORMALLY WHEN I AM IN ANDROID AND CAN PUT THE ZIP INSIDE THE ROOT AND FIND IT IN TEAM WIN AND FLASH BUT NOT WHEN I CANT MOUNT. IS THIS UNDERSTOOD?
im sorry for the caps hahaha i guess im just frustrated. It seems no one understands my main question
In recovery connected to PC type in cmd
Adb push filename.zip /sdcard/
Also apologizing for caps and typing haha doesn't make it any less annoying.

ha, now now no need to be rude here. I was stating that it was frustrating that people seemed to have over looked my main question and was simply emphasizing, my apologies if its a pet peeve of yours. I figure you must be some sort of wiz Metallice, and i appreciate your help! I have a program ive been using to root called nexus 7 toolkit. I looked around and found this ( Flashable kernel from 4.1.2 JZO54K http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12008411/ker...per-jzo54k.zip ) which is the stock kernel it states atleast, and this.. ( ClemsynELITEBatterySaverStock.zip ) which is a battery saving kernel. Im sure you know this, but I was looking to overclock my device to hopefully 1.5 ghz with a 600mhz gpu. It might be asking a bit much, but was hoping someone would be able to walk me through pushing the zip using the nexus 7 toolkit and finding a overclock kernel to flash over. This is what im having problems doing because i am quite new to the nexus 7 and the programs used! only way to be good at something is to learn, please teach me so I can stop asking dumb questions and hopefully help someone in the future!

Not everyone is as smart as you when it comes to this stuff. Am i just expected to know terms and methods? i appreciate the help but am disappointed because i thought i was going to meet some nice helpful enthusiasts and have friendly conversations, but instead i just get half assed answers as if im supposed to know what im doing. This isnt ASUS's fault, its mine. But i was hoping to tamper and become a pro with atleast my device. Maybe I dont belong in the android game
Hi,
Got a new nexus 7, unlocked it and rooted it. Love it
Nexus 7: Version 4.2.1
Kernel Version: 3.1.10-g22b4fcd
Paranoid Android Version: 2.99
Build Number: Pa_grouper-userdebug 4.2.1 JOP40D
I found that when i scrolled down through web pages the browser was very glitchy, overall i found the processor to not quiet have that umph for smooth operations i expected.
So i decided to flash it with the "Elite Kernel" . System just got stuck in boot.
Not sure whether this kernel is suitable for the Rom installed!
Any advice in overclocking this device is much appreciated.
Cheers
Don't think elite works with 4.2 yet. Try the latest trinity kernel, it is working well for me.

First of all, in all caps at the top of this section of the forum it clearly states "No Q&A in development"
Secondly, kingkernel is compatible with all SENSE roms. Seeing as ubuntu isn't installed as a rom or a default OS for the android platform it's really not "compatible". For ubuntu to be running on your phone, it's run through another app after you've already booted into a rom (Skyraider, Stock 2.1, Leaked 2.2, CM6, etc...) I can't remember off the top of my head how it runs but please use the search button. I know there's already a thread with hundreds of posts with the information you're looking for.

Huh? Yes, running ubuntu requires loop-back support.....buy why would you suggest that he flash the cm6 boot.img? I'd love to hear your reasoning behind this....
FYI, I'm the guy who compiled the very first kernel for running ubuntu on 2.1 stock roms - obsolete now that Hydra Kernels, KingKlick's Kernel, and I believe the SkyRaider kernel all support loop-back. I can't imagine the benefit (or horrible side effects for that matter) that would come as a result of flashing a cm6 boot.img to a sense rom......
Also just a note to those of you who are interested in running ubuntu on your incredible: any and all apps need to be compled for the ARM processor in your phone. There is NO flash support, so no hulu, no flash sites, no aircrack-ng. Yes it will run, but it's nothing fancy. I never did end up seeing enough benefits to continue using it on my incredible.

Hi, as the topic states, does anyone know where i can download one and flash? my setup on my sig is current.
thanks
So you're trying to run the official kernel with a custom ROM? Why?
why not? and what prevents me from running an official kernel? to OC and drain my batteries? other than that, what else?
edit/
what may keep me from using an official kernel is the 15MB additional ram. however i was under the impression that if I had radio 2.22.27.08, and H-Boot 1.33.0013(d), it doesnt limit me from using any of the froyo kernels floating around. if im incorrect with my assumptions, can someone enlighten me?

Because you can't OC is probably the main reason. The only other one I can think of is the random battery drain that some kernels experience.
On the plus side I can think of stability and battery life. Knock yourself out, I'm sure someone can post it for you.
I have the zip file for the 2.2 OTA but I have no idea where to find the kernel.

IMO, the current ROm im using (TheOfficial) is working wonderfully. I care less about overclocking since I don't play games and dont find the need for the applications I use to be overclocked. Also the UI response on the ROM is incredible.
You are right, until the other ROMs iron out the random battery drain, which I have experiences in both CM7 and pershoot kernels, i wont be using them because i do not like having to restart the phone every time after i charge. ezterry's current kernel always gives me the green screen. however, ez's older kernel doesn't, but I prefer running the latest unmodified kernel.
I'm satisfied using a non-oc kernel and would rather set the mim clock freq. to ~177.
Makes sense. If you can figure out how to extract the kernel from that zip I linked you to, you should have your kernel.

Actually there might be a legal copyright issue with distributing oem kernels in custom ROMs. I don't know for sure though.
Shouldn't been since the kernel code is open source, but I'm not sure either. I did find a guide to extracting kernel's from ROM's but it requires that you are either running Linux or are running Linux in a virtual environment.

The official kernel is meant to go with 0013 and 28.25 so yes, you should still have the additional RAM, which this phone desperately needs.

Hi all,
Planning on getting a Xoom, but trying to do my usual research isn't going particularly well. I've been searching through all the threads looking for the usual mods, but am completely confused with what works for the UK / Euro Xooms?
I have found a guide on rooting the UK version, but do the OC kernels work? Are they the same as the US versions?
Sorry if this has been covered a million times, i'm just not finding a great deal of info other than "I bricked my Xoom by flashing X,Y or Z!
Thanks In Advance,

yes. tiamat kernel 1.4.x, clockwork 3.0.2.8 are compatible with euro xoom. learn more HERE.
So the kernel has nothing to do with the 3g side of things?
Sorry for being numb, dealt with quite a few android devices, but there seems to be a lot of Xoom paperweights being made and don't want to make the same mistake.
Many thanks!
kernel should be seperate from the os. however, if not developed properly could affect 3g.
hey, good question. ask everything you need before you move forward on something your not sure of.

Hi , did you manage to flash using the tiamat kernel, I have a uk xoom 3g, I would like to use tiamat as I want to overclock . So confused how to do this. Tried flashing a ocboot.img from an overclock guide and my xoom got stuck at the dual core screen, I have recovered from this by flashing a euro boot
I'm not sure where the guys are at these days cause IV been away a while but Tiamat has been having problems maintaining 3G connections.
As for mods, there is little that will work for us at the moment because we are stuck 3.0. Once we get 3.1 we'll start to see more.

You can install Tiamat to do it but its been a bit sketchy with 3G. I have tried to get a stock kernel compiled so I can start modifying it for those of us outside the US but I don't have the kernel skills and never got it to boot.

ah right ok, does 3g not work at all then? Could you point me in the right direction on how to install tiamat if its not too much trouble please.
Does it have to be done with an sd card & does that recovery thing have to be flashed?
Sorry , searched for so long on this and no one seems to reply.

Yes. Hurrian, talked about it. All I need is motley's 3.1 kernel.
Some news. I got it to boot. Actually, I am in a bootloop without the bootanimation but with the samsung sound. My source uses some weird boot.img (boot.img.md5 Note: it is a boot.img, not a md5 checksum, i am sure). I will hopefully get a correct one tomorrow. At least it passed the Galaxy Tab 8.9 screen.

You probably don't have the kernel modules in the right place. With older motley kernel the modules were in rom somewhere, but i don't remember exactly where. Ask motley about this.
That is because this is an old motley's kenel. Most of the new ones would simply get you into a bootloop. Worknig on that, but no support for that at the moment. Again, compatibility, but I am hoping to get that soon. It has been 7 Hours since I got this booting and working

when you release a working wifi rom, will you support the 7300 as well as the 7310?
I wanted to get Elite kernel and Paranoid Android rom on my Nexus 7. Is that possible? If so, how could I do that?
First you have to ask yourself why? Do you even know what a ROM and Kernel is? Do you know how to control both? Seeing you are a really new member i would ride the stock train for a while. Maybe learn how to flash a custom recovery and root manually Then you can move on to ROM flashing. Once you get the hang of that move on to choosing a kernel you deem appropriate. Also i wouldnt just flash whatever one else flashes and says is the "best." Thats not always the right way for yourself.
If you have to ask, then you probably shouldn't be treading where there be dragons, to borrow a phrase.
The short and sweet answer to your query is that pairing a 4.1.1 kernel with a 4.1.2 rom is going to result in a boot loop-

Look in the thread of Elite kernel to see what roms it supports. If it doesn't mention your ROM, [ParanoidAndroid--which btw is a good rom, I use it] you could reply to the thread and ask if it's compatible with the latest paranoidandroid [2.5].
Also worth mentioning the stock kernel is not bad.. especially for android newbies. [I use stock PA kernel--now--but I'm not a n00b though!]
