[Q] Best Rom ? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok soo first off all im new here, my first tablet ;D but i just unlocked my bootloader and rooted, and all that with nexus 7 toolkit
but i was wondering what are the best rom atm ? thanks

There is no best ROM. Click on one... read the OP, read the features list and see which one you like the most. Flash it. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Uber is right, there is no single best rom, it is all down to preference. Then there is the matter of a kernel as well.
For starters why not try Paranoid Android, it is a well supported rom that many people seem to like. But there are lots of good roms for the Nexus 7. I like Slimbean. Try a few and see what you like, it's all a learning process and that is half the fun imo.
Then there are different kernels too, to allow overclocking etc.

There is no "best" ROM for a individual user. I suggest you read the threads in the dev section and make your own informed decision. These threads often go bad due to individuals getting a little over passionate. One mans muck, is another's money

Which is the best custom ROM/Kernel with Froyo so far?

Hello!
Currently I am using JM9+ Raspdeep OC/UV kernel with Voodoo b4 support and I believe this is the max option for Eclair.
Would you be kind to suggest me the best possible option for step ahead to Froyo? Which ROM, Custom Rom and Kernel are best in work together?
Which LagFix, and Kernel are best for Froyo?
JPO+SO_zImage_opt_ext_root_JPM-JP6_V3_6??maybe
pointless
IMHO, useless thread ... every Rom as its advantages and disadvantages. It's really up to personal taste to choose the best one.
Sorry the comment, I know its a open forum and people have the right to express them selfs yada yada yada... but can't help stop noticing the amount of garbage hanging around this forum, making it difficult to find useful stuff .
And - off record, but on topic anyway - people, learn how to search pleeaaasseee... It's really annoying read threads with 1001 questions about the same subject, which results on 2002 posts if someone cares to help. You are only making it more hard to find yourself the answers!!
I agree with lunasea... Pure personal taste... Some ROMs have the GPS issues partially fixed, others are more stable, others have stuff which we don't use or need. Depends from person to person...
As far as lag fixes are concerned, that too depends on user. Almost all lag-fixes are amazing and the xda-devs have done a brilliant job in all of them, so it is really unfair to say even one of them is bad... they are all good. It depends on perception and the feel of the phone in your hands. Enjoy ur phone!!!
your mum is the best custom rom i mean have a go at DOC'S ROM.
Just IMHO,
If you want barebones + modular get Doc's v7.5 ROM.

True.. But only for some months. I have to say, came from winmo htc forum and although there were many duplicated posts, I find this forum much worse. Using doc's rom and find myself many times trying to catch up the thread reading countless times the same thing over and over again...

Not trying to be rude, as I stated theres no such thing as best rom. As overwhelming it might seem, there's no other option than try it yourself.
Nevertheless I can give you this hint: most active threads usually means more users, meaning more testing and more stable and support from rom cooker [EDIT... lmao].
So start trying roms that are on 1st and 2nd page of the forum.
happy flash

ROM Comparison thread request

Hey I was wondering if anyone out there was bored/interested enough in making a thread with comparisons of all the ROMs in them I just ordered mine today and I'm noticing that few of the ROMs actually have a "features included" section, so I would love for someone to make one for those of us looking to compare them while waiting for our phone or without having to try them all I know people will say "just try them all" but even just a general impressions thread would be very helpful to a lot of people

why is that???
because you can basically read what each rom is about, you can flash and try, Only you can decide if a rom is good or not.
I've tried a lot of high rated roms and i've hated it. Same goes with kernels. Don't make about thread asking which is the best. Best for what? Performance or battery life? How much will you use the phone etc.
It's really a flash and try. There is no good or bad.

Bcuz Devs and xda in general hate the *compare or best rom thread*...... everyone is gonna tell you to go try roms your self and see what's good for you.....

we r not asking for the best, we just wanna know the differences,, thats it.....differences in features and look...thnx
I understand the whole flash and try thing, and if I could I probably would at least try a few But yeah this isn't a "which rom is best" but rather a "what makes this ROM unique"
It's just a simple request if anyone has the time/interest in doing so, I don't want to go onto the ROM pages asking people there what it's all about
I'd like one too! Back when I had my one s I'd always went straight for cyanogen just for pure android..now that it already comes with the phone I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything if I'm not rooting and installing a new rom..
Most ROM threads have a features section or a changelog section detailing what is different or modified. Also, there is a thread that compiles a link to all the available ROMs by category (whether they are CM based or AOSP based, etc).
I recommend going to that thread and then navigating to your ROM of interest to read its description. I highly doubt anyone is willingly to compiles a comparison thread for you because ROMs are constantly changing. If you look at some of the threads, they have no updates and releases every day. By the time someone posts the comparison thread, it will probably be already outdated.
In short, your best option is to read to narrow your choices, then actually try out the options you have on hand.

Thanks, I would do the same thing
Arrgh, these threads... at least 2 or 3 a day
@ qpqpqp , do you know the search function
Thanks for the reply but I'm actually hoping for a more direct reply. None of those threads provide an answer. This isn't one of those "What is the best ROM thread?" I'm actually looking for the community input on widely used ROMs. Its an simple objective question that can't be solved by search.

You just repeated yourself.

That's exactly what all the other dozens of threads asking the exact same question are looking for.
That thread got a total of 15 votes among 10 options and it started in december. It doesn't say a lot.

heres a direct answer for your question.. the most popular roms for the nexus 4 are stock and aosp.
but i suggest that you try out a bunch of different roms, find what you and your device likes, and what fills YOUR needs. after you find yourself the perfect rom, youll want to repeat the process. but this time youll want to find the perfect kernel for your device, the kernel that you and your device likes the best.

how hard is it to open the forum and look at the numbers. you see right away which are frequented and which are not. thats why xda shows em, no? :highfive:
My favorite personally, would have to be Paranoid Android. I've been using it ever since I got my Nexus rooted, and plan on still using PA in the future. Although it doesn't offer as much customization as other ROM's, i don't mind it at all. One of my favorite features about this ROM is pie. It's an alternative to the Nav bar and is way better IMO. In the end, it's user preference. Some don't like PA, and would rather use other ROM's like CM10, or Xylon, but it's all on personal taste. Just try them all out until you find your favorite.

That's just what I was thinking. There are view counts and post counts for a reason.
CM or PA
stop being flipping lazy and so some searching .... smh
What ever ROM you like. Just because a particular Rom is the most "popular" doesn't mean YOU will like it. Try the ones that interest you and decide.

Yes, look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1911 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1912. No one can tell what is good for you, you have to try them out yourself. For now i would stay with stock for a while and flash some custom kernels. And after some time start experimenting with custom roms.
I really want to hear from everyone also. I need a STABLE ROM and some advice from our community here would help. Every post like this is looked down on for some explicit reason.... I want to hear everyone's opinions on all the ROMs and kernel combos.

because there is no right answer. every device will react differently, and every person has differing needs. the reason why these kinds of threads arent allowed is because they start fights. everyone is going to say that the rom and kernel that they use is the best. so, in order for you to get the right answers, you need to try them out, to find what reacts best with your device and to find what fills your needs the best.

What they said. ^^^^^^^^^
You need to find a rom you like best and read through a lot of the Development thread.
Also if there is a General discussion thread, you can ask question about the rom there.

Hello everyone, I'm new in here and I'm using Nexus 4..
I'm planning to flash custom ROM and kernel, i want better performance and most important thing is better battery life..

Besides that, I'm totally noob with flashing and rooting..
Thanks before. Your suggestions will be appreciated..

go for a rom that has just some nice features but also keeps performance..something like rastakat or cm11 or kitkang...whenever i flash those kinda roms always have great battery life and perfomance...crdroid is another good one....but please next time post in the right forum section..
this has nothing to do with themes and apps..
all the best
Thanks!
That's really useful and give me idea what to choose..
I'm new in here, so i don't know if it's wrong section..
And how about liquid smooth rom? It said that it has good performance and smooth..

No one can tell you what ROM to try, look in the development threads and try any that appeal to you. If you don't like them try another one, but each device reacts differently and each user likes different things - no one can tell you what to try. Also, best ROM threads aren't allowed, its disrespectful to the devs

I recommend carbon with JWR faux kernal. And nexuslouder mod. Best I ever had.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Just try some different ones and stick with the one you like best. For the most part, performance will be about equal between them. It is gonna boil down to taste.

1. New here or not you should already know to read and post this in Q&A section.
2. We can tell you our recomendations what to use but final decision is up to you. So try more roms and see which one suits you best and use that one.
3. Navigate to general section. There are good thread that explain everything (rooting/flashing/restoring...)
EDIT: To all others who commented in here saying wrong section... It wont help making a post about it. Report the thead for moving and case closed.
We don't allow these type of threads here for a very simple reason.
All you are going to achieve is a thread full of people's opinions equivalent to the amount of available ROMs... so what's the point?
My suggestion? Look through the Development thread and perhaps even look for ROM threads rated 5 stars (not always accurate but it's a start)
Then go through the features / bug list etc., choose 3 or 4 ROMs and try each one for a few days and make your own decision.
Thread moved and closed.
