Hello,
I have a rooted stock nexus 7.
I have the following situation:
I turn the screen off and leave it for 30 minutes. Using better battery stats and cpu spy I verify that 28 minutes were deep sleep and the rest around 200-340mhz.
When I check batter monitor widget (set at refresh once every minute) i see that I have around 343-156 mah drain in all those 30 minutes.
I even forced my cpu frequency when screen is off to 51mhz and by using cpu spy verify it is indeed true. When checking with battery monitor widget I still get values around 343-156 mah. Also tried to force at 100, 240mhz - still the same values.
Wifi, gps, bluetoth, nfc is off.
Partial wakelocks are (sumed all of them) 3-4 minutes total.
Anyone has any ideas regarding the source of the problem ?
Thank you !

Hi guys,
i've my Nexus from about a week. My battery life is about 24hr but I use phone with Push mail (activesync with TouchDown). I don't know if I can boost battery life with a custom kernel UV.
I want to know if in sleep mode, the Snapdragon is fixed at 1Ghz? Or only with a custom kernel it goes down to 245mhz? Can this give me more battery life?
Thanks!
the phone idles at 245 mhz in all roms, not just modified ones. otherwise the phone would only live for 2 hours, tops, before the battery runs out.
in sleep as in "pc like standby" the cpu turns itself nearly off. from time to time it will wake up (timer based, interrupt) to do something, without turning the screen on. depending on load it will set the cpu clock accordingly. (generally it should be on less then 1% of the time)
you can actualy see this quite nice when you open an ssh session to the phone and switch it "off". every input in the session now takes ages to complete, because the phone aggressivly tries to sleep.
Your biggest power drain is going to be the screen. Try turning your brightness down, or if you haven't already, enable the auto brightness. I found this saved me a lot of power.
My x10 overheat now 48 degree celcius is normal temp n battery drain very fast. I also see that my cpu run all the time at 998 mhz this is not happen before 2.3.3 i dont use gps , wifi ,bluetooh 3g i have 2g network.plz help me friends!!!!!
i think it can make damage to your phone, update it again or flash it.
What are the programs consuming the battery in battery stats ? Do you have a huge photo and music library ?
CPU state

Yeah, i have the same issue, i do have a huge library
From CPUSPY I saw my phone will either in deep sleep or directly hit up to 998...using WB TW GM rom BTW...
same here , cpu using only 998, 245 and deep sleep
same here. using pre-rooted stock. cpu spy shows that it mostly uses 998 and then deep sleep. 245 only a little, nothing else.
it makes phone heat up a little when using it and charging takes longer because of this. Even on wall charger.
I installed Wolf's ROM and took out all Timescape / Facebook / Twitter stuff ...
CpuSpy shows:
63% deep sleep.
29% 245
6% 998
No sync with Google, no Gmail built in App. I use K9 for 2 accounts refreshing every 15 minutes, my Image monitor widgets for every 30 minutes and Snowstorm for weather. WiFi was on all day (I've set no sleep policy). But was Sunday so not that much "work" (testing some app, etc).
Tomorrow I'll see.
hi there,i've got the same probleme, any solution ?
Hello,
I am asking this question as to confirm if my tablet needs to be sent to warranty or this is a normal behavior to you other people reading this post.
I have stock 4.2.1 rooted on a nexus 7 16gb version
When I lock the screen the device enters deep sleep => I can verify this by using CPU Spy, it says that in 30min of screen off, 28 minutes were spent in deep sleep
Using Battery monitor widget with refresh rate at 1min I can look at the log and see that the tablet had a constant drain of 50 to 94 mah during those 30 minutes. Only after 2-3 hours the device starts to have a drain of 2-3 mah (if the screen is off)
Wireless, Bluetooth, Gps are turned off.
If you think I may have omitted some things in my test procedure please share some info, otherwise please tell me if you also encounter this problem
A good day !
background apps could cause drain, not even apps you opened. like the facebook app is notorious for it.

Hmm, normally when I had the HTC HD2 when it was in deep sleep it had a drain of 2-3mah - battery monitor widget was checking every 1min
Now with the Nexus 7 the drain is 50-94 in deep sleep, do you think this would be a normal behavior ?
I can relate
I get the same type of behavior on my Nexus 7 16GB wifi only model. Mine does not seem to be due to an app either, as the main battery use is Google related (Play store, or Google services, etc.). Take today for example. I charged my Nexus 7 overnight, verified that it was reporting fully charged when I got up, then I put it to sleep and set it aside to take to work and didn't use it again. When I got to work 2.5 hours later I turned it on and it was at about 83% battery. I lost almost 20% battery in 2.5 hours without even using the tablet. I attached a screenshot - today's culprit was Android OS (I took the screenshot a couple of hours later at work). This behavior started after upgrading to 4.2 - it never did this on 4.1.
Oddly enough, I don't get this type of drain if there's no wifi connection, even if wifi is left on and there's a wifi signal that it's just not connected to. When I get someplace with wifi, the battery drain starts again.
There's definitely something wrong with my phone right now. Android OS is taking up over 50% of the battery. My phone has been on for 16 hours, with only 1 hour screen time, and I only have 34% battery left.
I have decided to install CPU spy to find out what's going on. According to CPU spy, my phone is very rarely going into deep sleep. For the 1 hour that I have had it installed so far, my phone has gone into deep sleep for a total of 6 minutes, and in the 384 Mhz state for 50 minutes. The whole time the screen has been off. Something is definitely not right.
That leads me to the topic of this thread. How do I pinpoint what app is causing this issue? Do I have to just do trial and error with every app, or is there a quicker way of finding the bad app?
Install Better Battery Stats. There's a paid market version and a free XDA version. It'll pinpoint what's keeping your device from deep sleeping

Thanks. I just got the app. Do I look at the Partial Wakelocks section to determine which apps are the problem?
Yes, Partial wakelocks lists app services
So if my deep sleep says 39:51:46 - 59%, is that good or bad?
it depends what you done with your phone that deep sleep sounds ok but I don't know your other stats, cpu spy is only for cpu frequency
I put better bat stats on my signature, look for the partial wakelocks since boot or unplug.
Hey there, I really have on problem with my N4 since I own it:
From time to time my battery drain just goes huge. For me it feels like that is everytime I go out and have my phone in my jeans pocket. So at some point I thought I would press the button to active the display all the time.. but thats not happening (according to GSAM Battery Monitor).
I had all 4.2.x stock ROMS + stock Kernel and also with Franco Kernel. I always had this problem from time to time.
Signal is there, there is no significant battery drain from any app. The % of each app is normal and I also dont use any app more than usually. I don't have new apps.. everything is like always. Still my battery goes from 100% to 0% withint ~ 6 hours (30 mins SOT).
Any ideas? My battery is at 47-50 Celsius, the cores go offline as they are supposed to. I tried reboots in between e.g. in case an app is bugging. But actually all apps are as usual :/
Thanks
@edit: it also happens when the phone is on my table.. i just had it with 17% left on my table, didnt touch it.. after 30 mins it was off because the battery was empty. wtf ?
The biggest battery suckers are radios and the screen. I turn off wifi, GPS and BT whenever I'm not using them. Keep a short timeout for the screen.
Unfortunately, six hours doesn't sound too far off from normal if you've got things running. I'd go through an entire battery cycle watching a 2-hour 1080p movie. Overnight, my battery dropped about 15% while only bluetooth and GSM were on. The N4 isn't really known for good battery life :\
BT is off. In general my battery holds up one day without any problems. But sometimes it goes down within a few hours and I dont know why.
Possibly a scheduled background service? Maybe Google Sync is pushing a whole bunch of data periodically?

Hmm no not really. Also, it would happen every day or in some interval. Not just on random days?
besides that I dont use any syncing and also it would be shown in the GSAM Battery Monitor or general battery usage ?
I dare not say I'm a professional in battery saving, but I did break the 8 hour SOT on N4(minimum brightness of course).
Let's see, I only use 2G, because I only need internet for Whatsapp, and I greenify every single other apps.
You might undervolted too much according to your signature. -200mv might reduce heat but consume 1.2-1.5x more battery than normal voltage, its hard to explain, but its the truth, try -150 then -100.
Since you're on Franco, reduce the vibration a little, as for scheduler, I personally prefer Deadline on 2048. Governor definitely interactive, and freqs at 1.2Ghz. Because personally I dare-say at 1.2 Ghz you can run most apps almost instantly.
Like the second post said, Off wifi, GPS and bluetooth. Under settings > location settings> one is GPS and another is google location, off both. And you might still even have NFC on? No idea in this.
Download an app called build.prop editor or kernel tuner.
Modify build.prop a little. Add in pm.sleep_mode=1 and change the value of wifi.supplicant_scan_interval to 600 or 900.
Disable auto brightness and fix to something you like but below 50% .
I am not on -200 anymore.. -100 all the time
i also use greenify for nearly all my apps.
GPS, BT is turned off, Wifi normally too (tasker is doing that, depening on GSM antenna reachable or not).
The other tips are really nice but should affect the battery drain THAT much ?
Thanks !
As a little update:
It seems like this only happens at certain locations ?!
E.g. at work.. everything disabled (wifi, BT, gps, etc) .. even Tasker is disabled incase it was bugging -> about 10% for 30 minutes.
I have full connection bar to my carrier.. what the hell is that ? Battery temps are normal, same apps running as I had running when I was at home. I don't even use the phone but as soon as I get to work and my phone gets a carrier signal, the battery graph shows a rapid drop.
19:34 - 61%
20:03 - 54%
20:20 - 48%
20:54 - 38%
21:20 - 31%
Battery sitting at 37 Celsius... why.. why why ? :S
Alright now I know when my battery is crashing:
as soon as I turn off and I connect to my carrier. but why? Normally it should be exactly the other way. When WiFi is on and connect, the battery drain should become higher.
But as soon as I leave a WiFi, my phone gets hot and looses A LOT of battery very quickly.
Any ideas ? I have full signal.. but in any case.. I have the same signal as I also when while connected to Wifi.
e.g. at home with wifi - good battery life. but as soon as I turn the wifi off -> battery loss !
