I tried it a few weeks ago (running ICS unrooted at the time), and it did not work. I confirmed my setup with a working MHL connection to a Galaxy Nexus. I have yet to try with the JB leak.

All happy owners of Razr M if you trying mhl-adapter, please post which one you use (link or smth else). Maybe mhl from SGS3 will be lucky or One S or no one
Just tried the one that came with my old Samsung infuse, the TV saw it as an MHL but did not give a feed from the phone. Is there anything in the phone I have to set or change to initialize it?

i think that is going to be the issue. there isnt anything in the settings to control this and i would assume if it was going to work there would need to be a setting or 2 like at least overscan like there is on models with HDMI out.

A Samsung external HD 500GB with OTG cable and stickmount pro works fine with my Nexus 7 yet on my Galaxy S3 it recognises the phone when OTG cable is plugged in yet I cannot see any of my music or files
Sorry not strictly a Nexus query but I do know that many on here also have a Galaxy S3 too, so might be of some assistance.
Cheers

I apologize. I forgot to try last night. Perhaps brain will function tonight.
OK, I gave it a try last night and the external hd (WD 750Gb) wasn't even seen by the S3.

Damn, this ain't good, it's so time consuming and tedious having to copy music from the external HDD to the Nexus 7, then upload it to Dropbox or Box then export it to the Galaxy S3, when I had my laptop this took minutes, now it's taking hours, im determined to find a way to get this working

Hi.
Apologies in advance if this has been covered - I've searched but can't find an answer.
I bought this cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0060AU5MW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title to connect up my Sharp TV to my Nexus 10 and although I have connected it up to the appropriate HDMI port, I get nothing at all. I'm sure I'm being dim, but a) have I bought the right cable and b) is there something clever I should now do to make it work? Or, c) have I just cocked the whole thing up?
Many thanks, in advance!
Re: [Q] Watching Netflix through my TV via HDMI?
Netflix blocks HDMI mirroring. An updated version for smartphone allows it, but nothing new for the tablet version yet.

Thank you for the response. I have tried to also play other videos from the Nexus 10 through the TV, without luck. It may be just my cackhandedness, or the TV, but I am selecting the correct HDMI port and still seeing (and hearing) nothing. I would LOVE to find a solution, if anyone can help? Ta!

I hope no-one minds if I bump this, but I'm at my wit's end!
The only way I've found to make this work, is to have both devices turned off (TV and Nexus10), then connect the HDMI cable, then turn on both the N10 and TV. Once the N10 is half way through the boot sequence, the TV should display everything that's on the Tablet onto the TV.
It's a pain in the ass to have to turn off the tablet and turn it back on... but that's the only solution I've found so far. I read that if you try to connect the mini HDMI while the tablet is on... it could damage it?? I dunno if that's true or not.

This is false info. I've been using HDMI mirroring with Netflix for years! HTC evo, galaxy s 2, galaxy nexus, nexus 4 and my nexus 10. All without rooting.
To op. Perhaps the cable you have isn't very good. Mine just works. I have to wait a couple seconds for sound but that's it.
Mine is from amazon company is mediabridge.
Likewise here, got an el-cheapo cable off of eBay and it just works. Not tried tried Netflix but my own videos and stills display no problem. I know it's a noddy question but are sure you have the TV setup correctly, selected the right input etc?

I think so. I put the cable into the hole marked 'HDMI 6' and then select that on my TV, but I get nothing at all. I bought this cable, which seems to work for other people: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0060AU5MW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Does it look okay? Am I missing something?
Many thanks!
The cable looks fine, do you have another device to try it with? A camera for example.

Unfortunately from what I have read, the N4 isn't compatible with MHL which really sucks because I have the stuff left over from my HTC Sensation.
The Nexus 4 utilizes Slimport which is based on the DisplayPort technology
More info:

Link to adapter on Amazon, works well with Stock and Paranoid from what I remember reading, not sure why others haven't merged it. I use it on CM10.1 despite not cloning the display properly, hopefully it will be fixed in one of the nightlies at some point.

I ordered today the slim port. Will be here tomorrow and I'll let you know how it works.

Yup u need the one designated for the s4. I sent u that link as an example of what they are. Personally I would get it from samsung. I've bought 3 that said they work with s4 and they didnt. I have a friend who got the one from Samsung and his works fine.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
a lot of them DO work with the S4 still that are "older" mhl adapters, but you also need the 5 to 11 pin adapter for those to work like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0089...qid=1388224095&sr=8-10&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
Otherwise, just get one line what was noted a couple of posts up, as it's already utilizing the 11pins and saves you the trouble. (make sure you're getting a legit one & check the reviews!)
Alternately, you can get the allshare cast hub (by Samsung) which also mirrors via hdmi.
It is also possible without an mhl dongle or allshare cast hub to push things (pics, movies & youtube) directly if you have tv/home theater/blu ray that's dlna enabled to push to.
I've done it from the older mhl w/ 11 pin adapter, newer 11 pin, allshare hub & by dlna enabled device without issue. I mainly use the latter nowawdays, but still use the other methods on occasion because of the screen mirroring.
As a side note, both mhl adapters are OEM.
Its sad I didn't know this thing had HDMI out capabilities
I have the the samsung MHL connector i wanted to hook my s5 to the tv to watch netflix, but im unsureif root has broken it? Can anyone one els confirm that it works with/without root? Or am i been a noob haha. Any help would be great, Thanks :good:
Rooting the phone breaks screen mirroring. Not sure if it applies to MHL adapters but it does apply to miracast

What MHL adaptor are you using, is it an original S3 or S4 one or another brand one?
Also, are you running an stock or custom ROM?
I think mines the s2 Samsung one. So its probably out of date. I never tried it with my s3 and didn't own a s4. I'm rooted stock, im gonna buy an up to date mhl cable anyways n check that.

Are 3 types of adapters mhl 1.1 (-2012 galaxy s2) - 1.2 (2012- galaxy s3) - 2.0 (2013- galaxy s4)*
- 1.1 adapter will not work s4 s5 but 1.2 (additional power supply needed) and 2.0 (no additional power supply needed) should work
