two different form factors, two different usage.
Note 2 has s-pen, larger screen, larger battery, faster cpu and a bit pricier. It's totally up to you.

I love my s3. I do kinda wish I waited for a note2. Although I don't think it is 4g ATM. Also I would be concern it would get cracked in my pocket do to its size.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda premium

Go for the Note 2, it's superior from every aspect really.

i9305 is alot better than i9300 dont get the lag i used to get on that guess i might stick with the lte

Its the same CPU its Only Overclocked 200mhz more. Mine Is Overclocked to 1.7Ghz So really my CPU is running faster then the Note 2
And how is it Superior is every aspect? To me I think the I9305 is more superior. The size does it all for me. I don't want a Phablet I want a Phone, And with a few tweaks our hardware will be Overclocked the same way. Its the same GPU again only overclocked slightly. Which we can do on our phones.
The standard note 2 doesnt even have LTE. Only major difference is the battery and screen, But due to the screen size the battery probably lasts the same amount of time.
By the way why are you asking us what we would prefer? Aren't you the one buying the phone? loll
I think if any of us would of preferred the Note 2 we would of got the Note 2 . So I think ALL of us in here with the I9305 do prefer the I9305. To me its the same hardware but the I9305 has the perfect screen size. So very easy choice for me -=I9305=- The Note 2 is too big for a phone.

Lol the reason i asked was cos u only really know once u buy the phones. I know alot of people regretted buying the original s3.
The only difference that interesta me is the multi view feature.
Im asking peopls jus to see their opinion on the i9305 as they own it duh
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2

Yes as you said they would only know when they buy the phone. So how are we going to know what a note 2 is like comparing to ours as we havent bought the note 2 duh
So in reality we couldnt compare it. And you asked if we would prefer it, we can only say we prefer the i9305 as this is the one we bought.
Unless someone has both. But there too many of these threads in the other forums. This vs that ... that vs this. Which wont ever help you as one would prob prefer bigger screen or one would prefer smaller screen. Each to there own taste.
Anyways This will prob get closed as it not really i9305 development related
But specwise and look wise.
-=i9305=- all the way for me. And when the sources come out for the alpha s3 will be able to port multiview alot easier i would say

I love my s3

S3

Note 2 display is next gen SAMOLED and looks better, another benefit not mentioned.
So technically Note 2 > i9305 > I9300.
But then there is a lack of development with them. Personally I would only touch them if that situation changed. ie. There would have to be ongoing kernel development.. Stock ROM is fine can DIY, but the kernel

Galaxy Note X Galaxy SIII

Now I think it's a very hard decision for Note users to change to new SIII! I may consider the huge & continuing market share assigned for Note will badly affect sales of the new SIII device! Just a comment ;-)
I do like SIII, but I love my Note!

Definitely not giving up the Note for the S3. Why lose half an inch of display for a couple extra cores that won't be fully utilised yet?
Yea... I believe the Note is still picking up momentum. Im definitely going to hold on to it for a whole longer. Having more fun with the international version than I ever did with the ATT model.

Saw s3 this morning at three shop (had to ask as they cant display) the s3 is Amazing but the note is better
The display on the s3 is amazing and there isnt much different between the note and the s3 but the note has a pen thats the seller for me
The back on the s3 also is very flimsy
My advice if u have the note dont bother
If u havent got the note get the s3

I will consider S3 only when XDA Dves give up on ICS bug, which it wont happened, so..
I love my Galaxy Note, I love it to bits
I ordered an S3 and looked at the forum in xda.
The thing that was swaying me was the sound....the better dac...the wonderful Blu ray that works better for sound....
But I agonised daily about giving up my lovely note.
In the end I cancelled the S3 because the Note is better in some ways and it won't be that long till the Note 2, (probably a better version of the S3), comes along.
In many ways the Note is a better version of the S2 now.So presumably the note 2 will better the S3.
Funny thing about the S3 is that you can buy a pen for it LOL
And a big chunky pen it is too
I kinda thought if the s3 had allready been released and the Note was just being released, I think I would have wanted the note
So for me I stick with the Note for now.
Guess IM lucky got an s3 coming for work so can play around but for me the note wins as my personal choice

About me i don't like s3 at all infact it's not even fair to compare between them. Galaxy s3 is new version from galaxy nexus they increase the rubbish battery which is in nexus with one bigger.. and putting micro sd which isn't available in G nexus that's all. Stucking with note until new note...

I had the sii and loved t the note b but as my contract was e ending the siii came a along. I managed to see it yesterday and loved it but not more than the note. I have now b bought the note I am a so happy that I did.
Still getting used t to it but its incredible.
I preordered the S3 about a month ago and was patiently waiting for it.
Then I had a play with my friend's Note and realised the main reason I use my phone now is as a media/Internet/texting device and only occasionally as a real phone.
So the size of the display won it over for me and I've cancelled my S3 order.
No regrets and I doubt I'll be bothered at all when the S3 comes out next week.
Having been an iphone man for years now and having test drove the HTC Desire & Sensation before returning both of them, I've finally found an Android device which I can honestly say beats the pants off the iphone.

The successor the Note would be a more accurate and worthy upgrade imo, but even then I will probably wait for the 3rd generation Note as I'm pretty satisfied with my Note at the moment.
Is the Samsung Premium Suite on ICS making the Note Pen really useful/amazing? This would help me decide between Note/S3.
Ill use this thread instead of making a new one, even if it is slightly offtopic:
I have a galaxy nexus at the moment and love many things about it, but the lack of a microSD slot is a shame.
So i wanted to get a SIII next week, which i consider as a nexus with two more cores, a sd slot, a bigger battery, and, the only downside for me, touchwizz.
Today i was able to play around with a note and i instantly fell in love with the big screen. Now i have some questions to you to eliminate any surprises when switching to it from a nexus:
1. Which would you consider as the best rom at the moment? The nearer to a clean ICS rom the better.
2. Is ICS officially released for the note?
3. Is there a bugfree version of the aokp rom?
I know that my questions are allready answered in this forum, but i did a search and went through many threads without any clear answer. Thank you very much

The GS3 will have a "C-Pen", will come as an accesory at some point.
The S3 is definitely a better package than the note. I had the note back in February for about a month and I loved it! And I know that people who who got used to the note screen have a hard time going back to a smaller screen. That is the note pros and cons, the screen. Pros cause it is a beautiful big ass screen that lets you do pretty much anything, awesome to watch vids on it, S-pen is fantastic in my opinion. The con isn't that it's just too big, the con is that once you use the note for a while you can't go back to a smaller screen, for real. After I sold my note ( I kinda regret it a Lil but what the hell) I had the Galaxy nexus and when I received it I thought it was a nexus S with a 4inch screen cause I thought the screen was so tiny. It's crazy! But anyway back to the topic, I think if somebody were to buy a phone today, definitely go with the Galaxy S3. More powerful,4.8 inch isn't that bad, has a Cpen, more features ect... But for those who own the note, gotta wait for the note 2 as it will definitely be quad core plus other features that will take advantage of its massive beautiful screen.
im considering swapping over.
for all those saying the extra 2 cores wont be used... google already announced a while back that the ICS browser supports the full use of quad cores... plus, nvidia have been out in the market earlier with their tegra3 in the transformer prime, so nvidia have sponsored some devs to get them to make their games more quad core friendly. so right now, if going quad, it makes more sense to go nvidia since they have the dev support, or run chainfire3d and leech off the support nvidia is giving its devs.
and also, sure, the s3 may have the same GPU. but its heavily overclocked compared to the mali400 in our notes. i dunno about you, but im tired of games stuttering on my note. my PC plays everything at max detail at 100fps plus, so dropping down to the note where everything runs at 15-35fps is annoying as hell. you guys try playing a rhythm game where it stutters, it completely throws off your rhythm and hurts the playability of the game. heck, mass effect infiltrator is frustratingly stuttery. i seriously hope ICS will fix this for me when it becomes available OTA.
the inductive charging feature of the s3, plus the wifi tv link accessory would be quite useful for me as it would make things less messy.
but i couldnt care less about the software additions that samsung have made. they seem more like novelties that i wont really use much.
although, i'll probably end up waiting till later this year to see if tegra3+ is any good (think tegra3 but on 28nm and oc'd with LTE) and LG's quad core krait + adreno 320 should prove interesting in its LS970.

Trade Note for GSIII...Should I?

A friend of mine just bought a GSIII (BNIB) because her Note's screen broke. She's been using it but doesn't get used to the screen, says that after the Note everything seems small. Since I have a Note, she offered to trade. I am seriously considering it, first and mostly because of how developer unfriendly the Note is. Suuree we have great ROMS and kernels, but that nasty EMMC bug is just nasty. Second reason is the awesome camera on the GS3. Third reason is the quad Exynos. Fourth reason, Jellybean<3 (i know we have CM10, but things would be much better with an official JB build around). But, are those things enough to sway me from the Note's gorgeous, humongous display, and the not-so-gimmicky-as-everyone-thinks S-Pen? What do you think?
If you really like your friend and she is desperate, sure why not. If you are talking purely on how it will benefit you, I wouldn't recommend it. I dunno how ROM crazy you are, but I see plenty of ROM development and you can get around the eMMC issue easily once you know how (just from what I've read). The camera on the GS3 is not "awesome" in comparison to the note. Most reviews state that the GS2/Note and the GS3 have almost identical cameras. It takes faster pictures, but that's about it. Even the BSI and bigger aperture don't improve night shots that drastically. Ditto for video. In fact, the GS2/Note has better audio capture, since it does not cut out lower frequencies. The GS3 has awful audio capture.
There's not a big difference between dual and quad core, and probably won't be for years to come. Same was true for PCs. Even now my quad-core setup isn't much better than my old Athlon x2. It takes a lot of effort to code for two cores, much less four. Once you get dual-core, which is mainly for smoothness while multitasking and going through the UI and doesn't affect individual app performance drastically since most apps are still single-core and splitting up the processes effectively is a monumental task, any extra cores have diminishing returns. Have you seen a comparison of The Gnex on a slowpoke 1.2ghz OMAP dual-core vs the GS3, both running JellyBean? There's a comparison on the pocketnow site. Jelly Bean will turn your dual-core into a quad-core, or in the case of the Tegra 3 One X running ICS, even faster than a quad-core. The speed of individual cores is more important than the number of cores if you are talking purely just speed when running apps.
If you were worried about the note not getting official JB, there's evidence that all the high end current samsung Androids are all getting JB eventually. Yeah too lazy to go link the posts on gsmarena/phonearena.
Other things to consider, is how cheap feeling the GS3 is compared to the note (if that bothers you), and of course like you said the stylus and giant screen size.

Actually that's some good advice. I used to renew my contract with my phone company years ago for the best phone they'd give me for little (usually an iCrap), sell it, and just buy another phone or continue using the phone I had (I change phones frequently lol).
I'd personally take a look at both phones. the S3 form factor and size is actually something I'd like, but then again, I'd totally miss the size of the screen and the spen. I don't know about battery life and I don't know about the feel in the hand, I don't think it's cheap though. I like Samsung devices. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Honestly, I'd probably get the S3 or the Note 2. Ask her if she can hold out on it for another few weeks because the Note 2 will be announced and you can see. I'm personally debating:
If the Note 2 comes out with more than a gig of ram and a better camera, then I'll go for the Note 2 ONLY if they don't make the size ANY BIGGER (dimension wise), it's already huge.
If the note 2 comes out with the same specs as the SGS3, with a pen and slightly higher resolution screen than the SGS3, then I'd probably get the S3. I've had the Note since December, and while I love it, I want to change devices soon! hehe.

That's wise advice: A financially sound decision which will actually earn you money. As soon as the Note2 hits the shops you will have to work hard to off-load your N1. Also, your friend is probably not a tech obsessed person so the advanced specs won't doe much for her: she just wants a Note
On another note (pun intended) If you're a tech nerd, the opportunity to try the Samsung flagship out for a couple of weeks should be a nice incentive.
I love my note, and yeah I'd only trade it for the Galaxy Note 2. But (if you're talking cheap) Samsung does feel cheap compared to HTC and (gasp) Motorola. I've owned these and difference in feel is certainly there. The OneX is so much sexier and well tougher feeling than the S3. Even the Desire HD with the plastic backing is quite sturdy.

I recently had to send my phone of for repair after my wife stood on it and smashed the screen. I was asked by a mate if I'd get an S3 like him instead of my Note if they couldn't repair it and gave me cash instead (it is insured.)
No way I'd go smaller again. Half an inch doesn't sound like much but it can make hell of a difference (or so my wife says! )
It even annoyed me when I borrowed my mate's S3 to surf the internet.
IMHO there is only one good answer: Help your friend to sell the S3 for a good price. Help your friend to buy a nice used or even new NOTE.
Then you can keep your NOTE she can get her NOTE and she won't lose that much money.
You don't want to make profit on the shoulders of your friend, do you?

Is it worth upgrading from s3 to a note 2

The Note 2 has 2 gigabytes of ram, compared to the 1gigabyte of s3, so its more future proof. The screen is also bigger and better.
Question is, is it worth it? Or is it too big for a phone?
Please don't ever say futureproof again because you can not simply 'futureproof' something
My SIII uses MAX 800mbs
The international version comes with 2GBs of RAM so maybe you could swap yours out for one of those
If you're looking for a bigger screen though then yes the Note is worth it
Sent from my GT-I9305T using xda app-developers app
lol @ futureproof
i keep the same phone for no more than 5-6 months. i just can't imagine sticking with the same for any longer than that. and here is my reasoning:
if you get a new phone and then sell it 5-6 months later (before the next iteration of the phone comes out) then you will sell it at 80% of the original price. however if you keep it for 12 months (and the new phone comes out) and you try to sell it you'll be able to get only 50% of what you paid for the phone. so I always change phones every 5-6 months. so thats how I stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest. so basically i'm 'renting' the phone for $100 for 6 months.. which is not bad at all. in fact that's actually CHEAPER if you think about it.
Umm both s3's that I've used on AT&T have 2 gigs of ram so I don't know who told you that information. If you have a s3 wait for jelly bean because it is essentially the same phone besides jelly bean features and the s-pen. Don't get my wrong, the note 2 is an amazing phone. I had the note 1 and now I'm on an international note 2. The battery life is the big selling point for me, but it is ALOT faster than the note 1 or the s3.
Honestly only you can answer that question.
The Note II has many useful features you have to decide if they are worth the price of admission. If I had an upgrade to use I wouldn't hesitate to pickup the note even if I has an S3. But as you have an S3, a relatively new device, I assume you would have to pay full AT&T price. If that's the case I'm not sure I would be willing to drop $650 for a new Note II if I already had an S3. But I'm on a very tight budget at the moment you may be in a different situation.
I have an upgrade and plan to use it to pick up a Galaxy Note II Friday.
From my perspective yes.
I changed and am very happy.
More ram, insane battery, faster, screen is better with polarized glasses.
Spen, multi view.

So I just switched from the S3 to the N2.
My reason, the styles and bigger screen (my target resolution to avoid eyestrain when using RDP is 250dpi N2 is a better resolution than the S3)
As for hardware specks I was more than happy with the S3, All I want is a good battery and the ability to use the phone all-day: GPS, note taking, Recording minutes, Camera, editing photos, playing podcasts, and web browsing. (if I get a day's use out of it I'll be happy.)
The S3 battery did restrict my ability to use it to its full potential. I'll comment on the Note2 after I have used it for a month.

i came from int S3 like yours & i'm not looking back
the battery is just awesome with all the screen estate
I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a 1GB phone. Switching through apps works like it should on the Note 2. With that said, it still manages to fill it up rather quickly. Visit enough web pages and open enough apps, it offloads the app from the memory. I think 4GB will be perfect, for today. But probably 4GB won't be enough for 2 years from now when it is available. Such is life.
But I love 2GB ram on this phone. Along with the superb battery, big screen, S Pen (just the ability to write notes down as quickly as you can do with a pen and paper), and airview, I think it is a worth upgrade and the hassle of having to sell a used Galaxy, and taking a hit on some costs.

Rumblings from Samsung indicate the S4 will be released by March 2013. That's a short 10 months after the S3 release... I don't have the link right now, can find it if needed...
In my opinion the Note's screen is too big for a functional phone. I'm not a fan of the "inbetweener" sizes... Two small for a tablet, too big for a phone. However, it's all about preference and usage.

I come from the Galaxy S3 and was a little afraid for the big Note2.But now afther a few days i not like the S3 anymore and i'am very happy with the new note.
Coming from the s3, I am VERY happy with the choice of the upgrade. The screen is nicer to look at, colors are more vibrant. I personally like the screen size, just about perfect for me. I will most likely skip the S4, no way I want to go smaller now. I will hold my next upgrade for the Note 3...love it!
The Note 2 isn't THAT big. I thought it would be a lot larger. So little bezel and the width of the phone makes it very practical.

S4 users will say the S4, Note 2 users will say the Note 2 - there's a massive debate going on about it in the Note 2 forum..
I had a note 2, and had to change it because I was sold it as a 4G phone but it wasn't, and they agreed after a lot of argument to swap it, and the only available phone which was similar in specs was the S4.
I haven't looked back, however I did like the big screen for watching movies!
Aside from that, I can't flaw the S4!! Really love it
The Note 2 camera is a little faster at taking images (action shots of my little boy running would be literally blur free) whereas the S4 is still a bit blurry if he's moving (but amazing if he's still!!), however I'm sure that will be corrected as the software is updated!
It's really your choice, size and S Pen - go for a note 2, if they're not that important, S4 all the way
Depends on your needs really. The note will have a significantly bigger battery and bigger screen, the s4 will give a smaller but better screen and more than enough battery to get you through the day.
I've come from a note 2 to the s4 as I found the note 2 a bit too big at times, but I love the s4.
I'd say go check both out in a store so you can decide what's best for you:thumbup:

How is the battery life on the s4, how much better is the screen?

Same with me really, note was a good phone and the battery life was epic in days of huge screens etc....but with a case on that offered the protection I needed, it was just too big.
The s3 was a little too small so the s4 was the middle ground with the 5" screen. I was tempted by the Xperia Z but their skin over android I don't like.

S4 for sure now, I'm not anti Note though because if you'd said Note3 I'd have voted Note.
i was torn with this decision,
i chose the S4 because the .5" inch+ form factor is a bit hard to use with one hand but i tested the S4 (though not as best for 1 hand as others) but still it works out pretty decent for 1 hand operations, also faster processor.
Okay. everything depends on what you use it for. To put things in perspective - I own a Note II, won't switch for anything smaller as I'd miss out on the screen real estate + the amazing battery life like none other. S Pen is an added bonus for me, although I love it - it isn't really a dealbreaker as the former two for me. So what's "better" is highly subjective.
As for screen, I've played with an S4, and the only difference "I" (emphasis on the I, since it's my view) see with the screen is marginally sharper screen while browsing. I find N2 better for watching movies etc. since it has more screen real estate.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252896 read the thread to know the perspective of N2 users and make your mind up, won't go wrong either way
S4 for sure.. it has much much much more powerful processor, gpu and ddr3 ram and stunning full hd display. 13MP camera and it has gorilla glass 3. If you need a stylus badly then go with Note 2 otherwise S4 is a beast in every way. You should check out the full hd display first before you decide.
Or you just use something else for a stylus, like... The eraser end of a pencil. Or whatever is handy. Since it has the same high sensitivity that the 920 has.

I have them both and since buying the s4 the note 2 is lonely. However I still take it with me when I travel. I miss the big screen and the battery.

S4!
have Note 2 and have tested S4. will sell Note 2 tomorrow and get S4
The s4 ist not full hd. It has only 2 subpixel and therefore the resolution is only 2/3 of full hd. The advantage is the size and GPU

I'm also debating with myself if I should change my current Note 2 to a S4.
Pros for changing :
Better screen resolution
Better processor theoretically but it certainly seems similar to that of a Note 2 practically. In fact, Note 2 doesn't suffer from all the stuttering.
Easier one hand operation
Cons for changing:
Bigger screen
Bigger battery
S-pen (I really only use the S-pen screen capture function mostly though)
All of the above at a cost / top up price of $300 to move from a Note 2 to a S4.
This doesn't seem like a logical decision......
Coming from another phone: S4
Coming from Note 2: depends on your money
I've just ditched my SGN2 for the S4 and won't look back. I've got big hands but the size of it was getting on my nerves and I just didn't have that feeling that wanted to get it out all the time. Loving the S4 :cyclops:
Kevin: spen really isn't an issue as described above.
Stuttering is also basically gone since last update plus setting animations to 0.5 for me.

At this point? The GS4 is the way to go, why?
-Newer CPU/GPU, A15 Cortex
-HD1080P 440PPI display, its STUNNING!!
-Newer and more Sensors
-Better one handed use
-4.2.2 out-the-box
-IR Blaster
-Newer and far better Camera
The Note2 is a great device, don't get me wrong but if you're getting a new phone now let it be a new gen based phone, it will be great for the next 2years.

Note 2 or S4

Hello, I'm upgrading soon and would like to know if anyone has experiences with both the Note 2 and S4. I know the spec differences and I'm leaning towards the Note. I would just like opinions of people the have used both. Thanks
Edit: sorry, needs to be moved to q&a section.

get the S4, so much better than the Note 2, it's faster, better camera, more pocketable, more pixels, better screen, higher ppi, better software, longer battery life and so on.
The only thing Note 2 has is the stylus.
S4 is definitely a better option while doing a direct comparison. Since the price is almost same for both the phones its a pretty valid question.
The are 2 departments in which note 2 excels:
1. Considerably Huge battery
2. Spen with handwriting recognition and a bunch of other features.
So decide accordingly. If u can live without these 2 features go for S4 without hesitating.

Note 2.... Hands down...
10 Months back i was in the same situation as u... but i opted Note 2 and very much satisfied that i made a right choice.
It's been 10 months now but i still don't feel need to upgrade to Note 3 either. This beast really rocks.
Now I've updated it to 4.3 as well, through OTA
S4 is a phone like all other phones, But Note 2 is "Note 2"
Note 2 FOREVER !It's very good

Used to be a S4 owner but i sold it to buy Note 2 and i don't regret.
S4 over Note 2
- better display quality but not a huge difference , our eyes cannot make such a big difference between their ppi's.
- better camera , here you can see the differences.
- newer software ( but honestly i still prefer android 4.3 instead of 4.4 )
Note 2 over S4
- way much better battery , around 6+ hours of screen on with 1h games + 1h talk + 80% of the day wi-fi on
- better gaming , since the display it's bigger
- nicer design
This is my opinion,i hope it will be helpful for you.
Thanks for the input everyone! I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Note II. I went with my gut on the Infuse and that was a great phone, now I'm going with my gut again on the Note.

Note 2 = improved usability, you have to spen practically a digital agenda
S4 = A modern smartphone
Now if you can buy, buy a note 3, the newest version of note 2 and much better than the S4
A Samsung Note Series is like a black dude.

Go with Galaxy S4
Seriously? Please add some context. Both phones are good but they're meant for different people. Well, sort of.
S4 is a more "mainstream" phone. A phone nobody will have problem using. A phone that is "compact" and has all the features necessary and more. It is meant to act as a phone suitable for everybody.
Note 2,different story. Bigger screen, stylus and note taking apps etc. Do the math. Note is basically a phone originally meant to replace paper and pencil. Of course it's much more than that. In fact most of us buy it because it has bigger screen. Also it's kind of less "mainstream" if you ask me. Want to differ from the crowd? Lol just joking.
I got Note not because I have particularly large hands but I still enjoy a big screen and like taking notes etc and act all cool by using the stylus. Joking again, I find the stylus rather useful.
So there you go, pick your side. Note(pun not intented) that S4 Is one generation ahead(year older), but the under-the-hood differences aren't too notable if you ask me. Personally I love big screens. Makes power usage easy and fun. Sure the big screen can be a disadvantage sometimes, can't argue with that.

I would just wait another month and get S5 (almost as big as note 2, much better performance, but no stylus.... )
Almost as big as note 2?
Note 2 is 5.5"
