Since the update to 4.1.2 I have been on a ROM and kernel flashing binge and now seem to be getting some anomalies, especially in that I can't get bricked kernel to create zram with some ROMs. I am wondering if somehow I have got the old ramdisk installed or something?
Is there a way to check ramdisk version? A way to update the ramdisk?

1st You got to use Bricked v0.55
2nd Bricked installer use your 'current' kernel as a 'base', this means it extracts your current kernel and patch it then reinstall it. This is where the issue is, Bricked kernel wont works the same way if you had Franco kernel before then Stock Kernel. What you should do is to 1st flash the stock kernel (note : CM10 as a different stock kernel) and then install Bricked kernel and it should be alright
Thanks James.
I was trying to flash it over Franco. I have downloaded a stock kernel but it was from before 4.1.2 and I thought it might have an older ramdisk or something so might not work? Even on an aosp ROM.
For your ROM, I could select the stock kernel during install and then flash bricked afterwards and it should work then. Thanks again.

If you flash a brand new ROM to your phone does the kernel (and RAMDISK changes) go away?
I'm asking because I have another Kernel and ROM running on my phone and I'm thinking of flashing a new (completley different) kernel and ROM as well, a lot of kernel developers require you flash a stock kernel before switching to another kernel, then flash the kernel of choice.
I'm scared to brick my phone...
So what would be the steps I need to take to change kernels and update my current ROM?

Which kernel are you planning to switch to?
When you need to flash the stock kernel first in order to flash their kernel, they will tell you in the OP. You can flash the stock kernel every time you flash a new kernel if you like.
I'm swittching from Motley to franco, I'm staying on the same ROM (xylon)

Just flash Franco's kernel as is. No need to do anything else.

Hello XDA,
I am currently running the beta firmware for the oppo find 5, X909EN_13_130531_Beta
I am wanting to install faux123 kernal, meaning i need to install a new recovery as im currently running the stock one,
if i do install CWM and install the faux123 oppo find 5 kernal,
what will happen when oppo releases a new beta firmware? will i be able to get the update? how would i go about getting the update?
thanks guys.
much appreciated.
I think that while updating to a newer beta, the kernel by faux will be simply replaced by the new stock kernel inside the update

Thats true stock will overwrite. Then you should be able to flash faux123 kernel over stock again, most likely anyways unless its a major upgrade to like 4.2 then I'm sure faux will release an up to date kernel himself..

Yep, and actually ... I keep saying this but, the best part about this phone is being able to get stock firmware updates via system recovery, stock or custom. When a new update comes out just download the patch or full zip file and put it on your phone, boot into recovery and flash. As mentioned your custom KernEl will be overwritten by the stock kernEl when you update. But.. both CWM and TWRP allow you to keep your custom recovery when updating, thus allowing you to easily reflash Faux123 kernel if you wanted!

I have now Nexus 4 out of the box.
Now i want to back up the stock kernel before i flash to Franco Kernel. Is there a way to backup the stock one without rooting the device?
I guess you don't need a backup, you can easily extract it from the stock rom and the flash it back

No need to backup before flashing to Franco Kernel? If so how i extract the stock one later if I'll need it?

You download the stock rom zip from Google's site where the images are stored. Then you extract the zip and as far as I know there's the stock boot.img inside. Then you can simply flash it

Alright thanks!
I already installed Franco Kernel now

Hello XDA-Developers,
I lost my stock/original kernel from my Nexus 4 Device..
I have now, Franco Kernel 3.4.0-franco.Kernel.nightly.
But, now I wanna try Faux123, how can I get my stock Android Kernel back?
Thanks..
Nexus 4
Build-number: JWR66Y
reflash your stock rom, or flash the stock kernel. a quick search on xda or google will find them for you. btw, you didnt "lose" your stock kernel, you willingly and by your choice gave it up by replacing it with a custom kernel.

Now is my baby Nexus 4, crashed.. My wife will kill me..
I see an black screen, after auto-flash update to 191 nightly Franco Kernel..
flash the last good kernel or another kernel, or reflash your rom.
OP, this is why you make a backup before you flash. Always.
Also, You're*
So, i was in a hurry and i downloaded the wrong kernel. I wanted to download the linaro franco kernel for android 4.4, but instead i downloaded this one "franco.Kernel-nightly-r14-linaro.zip". this is an old version.
So now, my device does not boot and i cant install the correct kernel file.
What should I do?
Use a toolkit like wug and install through it the stock or any custom kernel you want.
Unleashed by my Nexus 4
But...
But, there is a way to only replace the kernel or i have to re-install the ROM?
Re-install only the kernel may affected something?
Thanks a lot.
