[Q] SyNthetic_aospX: Wanted disable "Data usage warning" - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
I'm on SyNthetic_aospX mytouch 4G for 2 weeks. Everything is fantastics, then I started to get "Data usage warning" couple of days ago, for every one hour. Google it, and apparently there is an orange and/or red horizontal line that I can configure. I cannot find such horizontal line. No data setting on menu/setting either. Couldn't find "Set mobile data limit". Turning off "Data statistis" don't help either.
Appreciate any help and/or pointers.

Thanks for your response. In my data usage, I cannot set any limit. I also cannot change range of "Data usage cycle". Is there something extra I should install?? Enclose is my screenshot. My choices of settings/menu are below, same with both "Data statistics" on or off. Attach screen shot too...
1. Data Roaming
2. Restrict Background
3. Show Wi-Fi usage

Try a clean reinstall. Its supposed to look like this...

[Q] SwitchPro Widget causes data connection loss

so I have a rooted vibrant and ever since I started using SwitchPro, I've had connectivity issues with my data.
At first, I didn't even use the data toggle on the widget and I was still getting 3G dropped. I tried to add the button to my widget to control it that way and it worked fine. 15 minutes later though, the icon is no longer highlighted as shown in the pic below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
so what I have to do now just to get data to work is to toggle it on and off just to get it to reappear.
in the SwitchPro options there's a box to check for "Data connection" It says "Use APN toggle - if the data connection toggle doesn't work, you can try this"
^ I've tried checking this box but my data connection still doesn't work
- I've tried uninstalling it and everything goes back to normal.
- I'd like to get this working though since the app is pretty useful.
just curious to see if any other vibrant users are having this issue and have found a fix for it. I've read on the forum that some SwitchPro users have experienced this as well
see?! data connection on.. no data on top bar
SwitchPro displayed my connection properly but would not function when I tried to use it to toggle my data connection. If I used the widget to turn off the data connection, I could not get it back again unless I rebooted. I also tried the APN setting, and it didn't help me either.
Maybe e-mail the dev?
I have been using Switch Pro for 2 weeks and this has not happened to me. Maybe it's because I do not and have not used the "Data Switch".
yeah Keslynn, i'll probably try emailing them about it.
jrwin, I've tried uninstalling and using my phone w/o switchpro for a while but as soon as I reinstall the widget I have issues again.
I would definitely like to use the app w/o having the data connection icon there but we'll see what happens

Prevent 4g from sleeping?

Yea. Did some googling and found a way to edit wimax through that ##3284# code. But the 4g seems to sleep faster than before? Can anyone tell me how to do this effectively? I use my epic for my home network and its a pain. Just want it to stay on like the wifi sleep policy. Btw i tried setting it to 300 100 and 60. Anyone know what that number means in terms of time?
Thnxnadvnc!

What rom/modem are you using?
4g seems to sleep more after I flashed DK05 or DK28, didn't seem to do it much in DI18

Those are idle times, in seconds, I believe. Meaning... when the device is not actively using 4g, it will time out (sleep) after so many seconds. I think 10 seconds is the default before the 4g sleeps.. Increasing that number should prevent your device from sleeping for a longer period of time.
I did some googling, according to this page, the number is in minutes.
http://www.groovypost.com/howto/mobile/prevent-phone-4g-wireless-connection-sleeping/
I have not tried this myself to see if it helps, need to get back home first where I have 4G coverage.
Anyone else have any luck with this setting?
--------------------
Edit: It looks like the parameter is in seconds according to this post on the EVO forum, which makes more sense
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8266721&postcount=79
Yea its actually working for me. If theres nothing using bandwidth 4g will shut off. But if I have pda running 4g will stay on even when the phone sleeps. before it would shut off after a few minutes into sleep mode. Works like a charm. if you dont mind the sprint rep questioning as to why you want that number lol.
How did you access the Wimax settings? This is what I see:

You'll access the data programming area on your phone by entering ##3282# on your phone number pad. The OP mistakenly typed in ##3284#.
You'll need your MSL to explore or change the settings. If you google, you can find ways to get that MSL number without calling Sprint.. You'll just enter some commands in a terminal app.... I'm not sure where I found it.. but it's out there.

Did you send a large amount of messages?
This happens when you send too many text within a short amount of time. Just restart the phone and you can continue sending your messages again without interference. If it starts popping up again you can just restart again.
This is what happens when you booty-text half the girls in your address book.

Eh, the limit was actually reduced to 30 messages every 30 minutes in Jellybean from 100 / 30 in ICS. Kind of low IMO, especially when using desktop SMS services - very easy to send multiple messages.
Also, just a poor implementation of the feature overall - should have options to dismiss the warning forever, per app, or at least for an X hour period.
This wasn't an opinion question. I just want to know if there's a mod for this

Everything on the internet is an opinion question. Try this:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32263-fix-jelly-bean-sms-warning-dialog/
CM10 allows this setting to be changed but stock Android has it locked at 30 texts per 30 minutes, which is absurdly low for someone who texts frequently or has a girlfriend who doesn't ever stop texting you :laugh:
I'd like to see the ability to edit this setting in a future stock release but in the mean time if it is really bothering you, check out a custom rom that features the ability to manually adjust this setting.

[Q] T-Mobile My Account

This could go for any phone, but since I have the Nexus 4 I thought I should post it in here.
I just received an update for T-Mobile My Account, the one on the Play store that gives you the information in your notification window, and after the update it was showing me the "Tutorial" Screen and I noticed that it was showing "XX/Unlimited" for minutes and texts.
(See here

}
-- from T-Mobile's website)
On my phone however it only shows up "Unlimited" ... I'm curious if I can get the actual count to show up on mine, and how? I am on a monthly pre-paid plan, so I'm not sure if that is why. Since I am unlimited, it's not life or death, just something I'd like to be able to get the stats on.
If anyone has a Nexus 4 and was able to do this and can tell me that would be awesome, or if anyone knows of a setting within the app itself?
Thanks in advance everyone.

there should be a data tracking in the settings menu that let you know how much data you have used
From my experience the app will not show stats for anything that is unlimited as there is no point in keeping track of it. Mine shows minutes used, as I only have 100, unlimited texts with no number given, and how much data I've used as the cap it at 5 GB. Verizons app does the same thing, as I have true unlimited data it never shows how much I have used but as my minutes and texts are limited I get a count on them.
OK that's cool ... I had seen the pictures and was wondering, no biggie!
Thanks all!

Is there a fool-proof way to ensure data is not turned on?

My data charges depend on the usage and it's very expensive. Sometimes, somehow my data is accidentally turned on. Is there a fool-proof way to ensure that that never happens? Is there an app that ask me to confirm if I am sure that I want to turn on data?
Go on settings
Press "more"
Go on "mobile networks"
And if data enabled is unmarked that means its off

I don't want to always go through those steps to see if it's off.
And, it doesn't really ensures that it never gets turned on.
Is there another way?

Of course it does, why won't it?
Also if u don't want to go through all those steps u can use widgets

I can just press data enabled and it toggles on/off
Also next time post in the q&a section

But if you really really want to make sure pop out your sim and that should work trololol but seriously those widgets work! I used them before :thumbup:

Airplane mode... haha that will be sure you wont have data charges!!! lol
I'm guessing you could make a null APN and simply select it, that way your device shouldn't be able to use data until you choose the right APN.
^^ This will definately work.

Quick settings by dragging the top nav bar down.
And just press the mobile data icon if it is on to turn it off.

What about using Tasker or Llama to set up an event to disable mobile data if it is on?
