I'm a long time android user, having used an Evo for about a year (upgraded to ICS), and also playing with the G Nexus. I recently switched to an iPhone 4S just to see how I'd like using iOS, and overall, after a few weeks, I'm pretty pleased with the ease of use and smoothness of it. Siri has turned out to be a nice bonus - it's nice to set reminders, send texts, have messages read to me while driving, etc.
I have an opportunity to trade my 4S for an i9300, and I'm very tempted, as I've always wanted a GS3. Obviously, i'm very familiar with the differences between the two operating systems, but I'm wondering if anyone can give me some input on the GS3, specifically with JB, so that I can better understand this phone and what ownership and daily use would be like.
Anyone else move to the GS3 from an iPhone? Is the GS3 really as awesome as people say it is?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Don't make the switch yet, as there's only a week to go to the new nexus announcement. While the GS3 is running JB right now there is no guarantee that samsung will update it to KLP once it gets released, and Cyanogenmod is not a viable option without proper documentation from samsung(not as smooth as it should be).
I'm selling my Sgs3 come October 29th.

Samsung will if they updated the S2 to Jelly Bean.
I would swap if I was in your position.

S2 is still on ICS, as far as I'm concerned, and just because they promised to update it, doesn't mean they'll actually deliver.
I just don't see the point in buying a non-nexus device anymore unless you like being stuck with an old OS version that is not 100% guaranteed to be updated in the future.
JB is still not available on the non-branded SGS3, and that's a week before the launch of android 4.2, a version of android that our phones are not guaranteed to see until sometime next year, if we are lucky.

Get an xperia T instead as it's supports development as contrary to s3 which samsung hasnt releasesed proper source = no good AOSP/CM
Agree with Toss3. S3 lacks proper documentation support at the moment and chances of them releasing the documentation is slim. And with Nexus 4 just around the corner, I'd say you wait a few days n then decide.

Well i have been using iphone since iphone 3 (4 and 4S included) was released and made switch to sgs3 in september. To tell the truth i like s3 much more phone is describable with only one word: GREAT. And i like it much more than iphone. Especcially now with that apple maps disaster, 2nd important thing no need for dedicated software for sync with pc (i.e. itunes). Just copy paste movies and music from PC. 3rd storage. S3 comes with max 64 gb internal mem and supports 64gb microSD which is double of largest iphone... there are more points but this are main at least for me

I used to have iPhones (since the first until the 4S).
I sold it and i took a S3.
No regret so far ! I love tweaking everything and trying different ROMS !
I bought my S3 outright quite a few months before my contract was due for renewal. My renewal since arrived and I opted for the iPhone 5, I used it for less than 24 hours before sending it back.
WAY too many apps that I use on my S3 have not yet been adapted to the iPhone 5, which considering I had to pay for them was pretty shocking. Also vs my S3 using SwiftKey, typing on it was a ball ache.
I can't deny thought that it does look nice, and then you turn it on
I'll probably wait to renew and go for the next Nexus device.

I can add more as well, like customization right from get go no need to JB, true widgets on screen and not just bland rows of icons, have a nandroid backup and not have to worry about screwing up modding and losing everything since in matter of few mins you can restore your last backup, unlike backup u do on itunes and lose half of the stuff and then spend half a day trying to recover or reinstall apps and games and still lose the save progress.
Yes i'm a jumper from iPhone4 32gb and dreaded every FW upgrade but on Android platform u can just peform complete formation of system and reinstall the o/s or back up from your extSD card without even hooking to a pc.
For me it was a good jump after using iphone 4 since 2010 but now i can hardly stand my wife's 4s after jumping ship in MAY. I think if you go with the newer iteration of S3 International Specs but with LTE and 2GB then you have a winner. Dont' bother with el cheapo nexus devices as the software on S3 is amazing barring TW, smart stay, smart alerts, briefing alarm, smart call and tons of other touches which makes it so simple to use and i feel withdrawal when using my other android phone.
I have bought the s3 and i'me very satisfied. IOS is far away from Android.
I am a dual user of an old 3S and a SG3. Basically I find IOS excellent for work and normal use: telephone, music, messaging, etc. One can just use it - from kids to oldies. ..
My SG3 is great to install roms und play around with android. There are however lots of bad and underperforming apps. I would not recommend it to my mother. ..

I forgot to specify that the GS3 i would trade for is not compatible with LTE on ATT, and only works on edge on TMobile, or at least that's what I *think*. This bothers me a bit, even though I use straight talk and AT&T's HSPA service is fast enough for me. I would like to know that I could go to Tmobile if i wanted to, but with this phone, I cannot.
And as some mentioned, with the new Galaxy Nexus being announced soon, and the pricing bound to be reasonable on it like the current nexus, it may make sense to just hold on to my iphone 4S (as its value is still high) and wait it out. The GS3 values are bound to drop faster than the iphone's.
I would like to share my opinion here. Its you who has to choose. If you want to do a lot more with your phone then i suggest you get S3. I have used iphone and i personally din find it better than android. Customizations are only limited to your imagination in android. I daily use a new ui. I love to customize my phone, and S3 bags some serious speed and is extremely smooth compared to 4S
S3 is samsungs flagship device, i'm pretty sure that they will release KlP. I would switch if i was in your position.

It's all about what you want from your phone. You'll probably have biased awnsers if you come to this forum with this question,
That said, i can easily say, from using both i prefer the S3. Not going to discuss looks, that's the least important thing i'd want in a phone and it's totally up to your taste, which i assume it's not a decisive factor since you're considering the s3. Looks aside, the iphone is everything it ever was. The S3 isn't. It's SO much more. Touchwiz is actually very good, it's there to help you do everything in an easy way. Very customizable in just about any way, has gestures integrated to do every sort of things , ex: double tapping the top of the phone to go to get to the top of the list of your emails in the email app, turn to unlock, smart stay (this one's brilliant i love it), change of keyboards (i can't even imagine me using anything but swype), sms managers, shortcuts in notifications (wifi, bt, gps, data, rotate, driving mode, etc), power saving modes, svoice, i could be here all day.
Honestly, it's just too different and far better imo.
Your call thought, i wouldn't even think about it.

So, I have been playijg around with my new Nexus S for a few hours and have everything loaded up like before. It's an awesome phone, just not surs ifbit is a $500 upgrade from the Nexus One that I currently own. My biggest issue is the limilted memory... with 12 gigs of music, my work files and others- I think I will run out soon, I am guessing they come out with a 32 gig before long. I will hang on to this and see how my N1 performs with GB. I really don't need a front facing camera or NFC chip. But I must admit, this thing is great and really flies! Anyone else having second thought?
It's disappointing that Google is going the Steve Jobs way trying to control what we can or can't do with our phones. I prefer my Nexus one 1000 times over this mediocre-half-ass attempt of a phone. I'll wait for Google to try again next year and bring back the tracking ball, memory slot, and a metallic casing instead of the plasticky one.

Yeah, I don't really see the Google Walled Garden. You'll have to explain.
I am almost positive there will be a Nexus-M by Motorola, they really want in on the Nexus name I have heard. Might be called the Nexus-3.0 and released after Honeycomb comes out, but that's just rumors I have heard. I thought Moto was gonna get the Nexus-2 before Samsung got involved, so I am sure they are working on a Nexus phone for release in 2011.
Right now, today, the Nexus-S is the best Android phone on the market, if you want pure Android, with no carrier bloatware, and no branding crap like Sense or Touchwiz, and you just need to root this phone to make it bad ass, no real need for a custom rom like C 6.1.
I would not want the first dual core phone to market anyways, let them work out the kinks and bugs first, and I'll take the second round of dual core phones. Will give them time to really optimize Android for dual core after the 2nd gen is out.
I think the OP was asking if you have actually bought the phone are you having second thoughts.
To go from a Nexus One to a Nexus S and call it an upgrade is an oxymoron. To pay money and get a phone with less features is unwise. Gingerbread is coming to the Nexus One anyway.

Where does Google say it's an upgrade? Link, please.
If you're just whining because the Nexus S doesn't have all the features that you want, then please stop. Go somewhere else and start your own thread, where you can complain all you want that the phone doesn't have a Jet Pack or a Rocket Launcher.

It's hardly the same thing. Sure, Google may have taken out a couple features that you find important, but they are definitely not controlling anything. These decisions ONLY affect the Nexus S. The MANY other Android phones are not affected. So if you want a trackball and expandable memory, you can very well have that. Just buy a different phone. Apple on the other hand, prevents this freedom since the iPhone is the only available iOS phone.

This is a forum for people to share their opinions. If you really like the Nexus S, you shouldn't get mad if others don't. Go buy one, enjoy it and move on. But try to understand that different people use their phones differently.
For me, the lack of SD storage is a deal breaker. Like the OP, I have easily over 12GB of music that I load on my phones. I don't want to carry an MP3 player on top of my cellphone. Nexus S's lack of SD slot leaves me with very limited space for my other data (work emails, apps, pictures and clips that I shoot, and so on). Having said that, I could see how this wouldn't be an issue for someone who doesn't fill up their phone.
Secondly, no matter how you spin it, the hardware is not a noticeable step ahead from the Nexus One, or the myTouch 4G. The S has a 1GHz processor and so do a whole slew of phones by Samsung and other manufacturers.
Thirdly, the Nexus S doesn't utilize TMO's HSPA+ network. Again, this may not be a big deal for somebody who doesn't do heavy data on their phone. But I do, and I happen to live in an area where TMO's "4G" network works extremely well. I definitely consider going from HSPA+ back to "3G" a downgrade. You may not share that view...
Basically, the only selling point for the S is Gingerbread. Based on certain information I have, the MT4G is highly likely to get a 2.3 update on the other side of the year. A minor OS update isn't enough to convince me to buy this phone.
As for your "upgrade" comment, technology is expected to get better over time. It's just the way it works. Google doesn't need to hold a press conference event to tell us whether this phone is an upgrade over a phone released nearly a year ago. That is expected to be the case.
Removed by me
I think the Nexus phones are Google's iPhone. It is untouched by Carrier bloatware, and untouched by phone brand UI's. This is the "pure" Android experience, sort of how iPhone is the "pure" Apple phone experience, but they only have one phone anyways, so sort of hard to compare, but you get my drift.
Is the Nexus-S gonna be the top dog hardware, no. But it will always be up to date with the current OS, and not really needing any custom roms, just a root. Sure in two months from now, there will be dual cores etc...but they will also have Moto blur, or TouchWiz, or Sense UI, and then have Verizon Bing search, or ATT crap ware. I like the virgin Nexus, even if she is a little slower
Every Christmas time there will be a new Nexus, running the latest OS, sort of like every summer there is a new iPhone. I hope this keeps going.

even if there is, until android is written to support it, and the apps are as well, having an extra core will be useless.
I'm going to sit on my n1 until a dual core dev phone is released. By that point, my n1 will be at the same hardware comparison with the new phone that my g1 was with the n1

Agreed, I would not want to be beta tester on the first gen of dual core phones, could be buggy, or could not offer any performance gains until the Android OS is totally ready for it . Now a dual core Nexus development phone would be nice.
Probably going to return mine
This phone is nice, but I really don't c much performance upgrade over my Nexus One. When I tried to watch some flash videos, it was just as choppy as my Nexus One...I was very disappointed. I think right before the remorse period is over I will return the phone and go back to my N1.
I visited Best Buy during lunch and got to play with a demo unit. The first impression is that the phone feels cheap. Yes, we've read about this many times in reviews, but I don't think one realizes it until one has it in their hands. It feels like a toy. And for whatever reason, it feels cheaper than the Vibrant; maybe because of expectations (Nexus branding and all)? I don't know. In some ways, the Vibrant's cheapness still feels like quality.
Granted, I was only using it for no more than 5 minutes, I was quite underwhelmed. Gingerbread sure is smooth, though.
Driving home with mine right now. 30 day return policy with no restocking fee. Ill see how gb does on my nexus one also and if I find any buyers. If gb flies on n1 and no buyers ill return. Can't wait to get home and charge it then wait till its done before I use. Fffuuuuuuu

I too am underwhelmed with the device so far. Oh yes it is fast and smooth but I am getting Fc's and some have to do with the GPS which does concern me. My GPS has been spotty so far and I still recall the torture with the Vibrant's GPS. Also Market has not updated to the new market. I thought GB would include that for sure(perhaps it is not actually released yet although I have it on my Vibrant. I do like the feel of the phone though. It is heavier to me than the Vibrant or the MT4G
... Like 2 dicks and no *****, Samsung and Android don't mix.

If you're getting FC's out of the box, do a full reset of the phone. If it keeps doing it even afterwards, then exchange it.
This is my first Samsung device and I disagree with the folks saying that it feels cheap or like a toy. My only complaint about it's build quality after having played with it for the last several hours is that I wish they had used some rubberized texture coating or something because the phone is pretty slick.
I'm sure I'll get used to it though and adjust my grip accordingly.

LOL I'm writing that one down.
Good day all,
I've had my Galaxy S II for about 2 months now and I love how it works.
But still, it seems that my hands are a bit too small to type good with just 1 hand..
Therefore I was thinking of getting it replaced with an iPhone 4.
Now I was wondering if you guys think I would regret it?
The thing I'm most worried about is the speed of the web browsing. Is it really that slow on the iPhone that I will have to wait much longer than on Galaxy S II?
Also, does anyone know if I can get text reflow on iPhone when I jailbreak it?
Thank you very much already for any answers.
Kind regards,
Hybbie

If you really wont to switch to iOS i'd wait till the iPh*** 5/4s comes out, rather than buying the old model...
EDIT: in terms of web-browsing, it isn't that much slower! (if you can live w/o flash...) iOS runs DAMN fast, even on bad hardware! (i compared my lovely SGS 2 to a friends iP4...)
Try Swype and you will forget about iPhones all together....
Yeah, I think you should switch.
To be honest only you can answer this. I personally would regret it. But that's because I've owned 3 android phones. I had the zte blade first, then the awful wildfire, and now this! Certainly my best phone. When i look at an iphone i think yeah it does some good stuff but is so bland.
No widgets and your rammed with apple stuff and forced to do things the apple way if your not willing to jail break the device.
Android devices are customizable out of the box and allow you to play about with how it looks straight away.
Like i said its solely down to you we are all going to favour each device in some way and the majority likely to follow the good ol S2! Anyway regarding the size surely its of a similar height/width?!?

Why would you ever switch from the Blade to the Wildfire? That's a straight downgrade.
iOS is great if you're fine with having only icons on your screen... iPhone 4 still wins display clarity IMO... but GS2 has richer colours.
browsing isn't that bad on iPhone but it is noticeably faster on GS2... antenna is better.
I agree... wait for iPhone 5\4Gs whatever they call it.
Apple products are all overpriced pieces of Sh*t. Don't bother with it.
You will lose a lot of normal functions (Bluetooth as an example. Has to go trough Itunes or something like that -.-'')
Just get a keyboard that suits you better. Swype should be included.
As a person that sells phone here's my thoughts... iPhone stunning design and well easy to use. But this is where it ends as HTC etc have android now its easy to use but look at the way it does things... syncing android is instant with Gmail, plug it into pc it turns into a external hard drive/memory card drag and drop any file you want to it from any pc of Mac.
Bluetooth isn't just for audio.
You can customize it all day and all night uses a micro USB cable everywhere has one. Memory cards not built in memory. Give you a idea in the shop where I work we sell around 55 contracts a week and since the first week of Jan we have only sold 4 iphones. That is a very low number as of android handsets we have done say 75% of all contract sold

I agree with everything above. Again, it boils down to what is important for you. I also thought about iPhone 4, but SGS II prevailed big time, due to things I do with it. You can copy music, videos, pictures any time, hassle free. Really. I never really felt comfortable working with iTunes, never knew what stuff would be deleted. Big argument for me also was the ability to copy and play divx files without needing to convert. I watch loads of movies; just copy to phone and you're good to go. It's a cheesy line really, but think what you plan to do with it.
I went with SGS II and do not regret.

If you dont mind the boring walls of icons then youll be fine with the iPhone 4 which has better battery life and gps and the apps to boot.
You'll be missing things like the filesystem and the tweaking on the SGS2 though
Don't forget the loss of flash and better media playback.
Which one would you recon would be a better all around phone
One X + specs http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4976
Nexus 4 specs http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_nexus_4_e960-5048.php
I would go for the nexus 4 but the 16gb space seems too limiting and I love the sense UI but also hate how manufacturers take ages to release the android os updates hence always turn to custom roms and am a frequent flasher.
which one would you also recon has better battery life?
i would compare htc with samsung but not with nexus..
getting a nexus phone isn't only about the specs of the phone,
if u need pure android and fast updates with limited hardware specs then go for nexus
if u need a device for its hardware spec like storage and the ability to increase is then i suggest u go with htc.
since the sgs 1 i got i will never go for other than the nexus samsung left as with their GB and never got updates since then..although we got many custom roms but still not like stock.
at the end it is ur decision be wise and think twice before taking the next step.
GoodLuck
It's your call on the phone. They have pros and cons. The flagship phones usually get updates longer then lower end models. HTC has good hardware. Nexus is bare bones and designed to be minimalist.
Why do people keep saying the Nexus is limited this or lacks hardware that? The Nexus 4 is one of the most powerful devices on the market. In fact, it has the smoothest performance out of all the devices. Do yourself a favor and get the Nexus, If you want somewhat better pictures then get the One X.
1gb of ram is fail, especially on a sense phone where the ui uses a third of your ram from boot

and who says nexus 4 has limited hardware! its a powerful phone mc4 whit max setting(mod) runs at 50-29 FPS
I used to have a one s and a one x...and i would definitely keep the nexus over both. HTC's always get support for like a couple of months after release then just die. Also updates never happen. After the one s and x i'm most likely never going to buy another HTC again.

How many VS. threads are yet to follow to clutter up XDA Use (for instance) Google and Youtube to search for and compare phones.
doesn't matter anymore
Since Google now updates apps instead of Os, getting a Nexus device no longer matters. Jelly Bean is a mature OS. Nothing really new out there. Rumours are 4.3 will contain minimal improvements. Not as important anymore. Go with phones that has features that matter to you now. Not 2 years from now.
but when 5.0 comes out people will come back to Nexus and bashing the OEM's again for being late because its a major update and that will take awhile.
plus, Seriously considering One X series?? do yourself a favor and get HTC One(M7). else, Nexus it is! spec might not be as good as S4 or One, but definitely smoother than them. We are talking about a device which is optimized/in-sync with the OS itself here.
its a no brainer to choose Nexus 4 for me cuz of the price. and updates are important, cuz you know money doesn't easily come so i have to make it count. i'm a geek so i have to be the latest in software. haha.

Incorrect. Nexus devices so matter. Nexus has one thing that other phones do not and that is the availability of working drivers from the very start.
When Android 4.3 come out, other phones will have broken auto rotate, cellular data, bluetooth, gps or whatever it may be because of the drivers not working properly with 4.3 and when 5.0 comes out, it will be even more significant to the point that it will be a large transition kind of like Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich depending on what 5.0 includes.

Agreed with everything else in the comment, but the HTC One is just as smooth as the N4 from what I've seen.

It's not noticeable but the slight stutter is there. I played with One almost everyday. It is fast, with RARE slowdown. Sometimes in loading an app.

I have both phones and I would suggest to somebody to get the n4 over the x+ in a heartbeat. It's just an overall better phone in fact it's the best phone I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Plus if you are into modifying your your phone with roms and kernels then I do not suggest getting an x+. On the flip side the n4 has a huge development community that is extremely active

True it is quite powerful, but when I was comparing the N4 to say a used S3, couple of things stood out (And course this could be the same comparison to a One X+)
- No user-removable battery, as such no extendable battery, the N4's powerful cpu can suck down that 2100mA battery pretty easy.
- No micro-SD card , so no readability there, but can put a 64GB into an S3
- No USB-OTG support (so can't just plan on using some 32GB thumbdrive, and you only have a choice of 8GB or 16GB, no 32GB model yet)
That's basically what my take on it, an its usually non-issue to most people.
Far as a N4 vs a One, just in terms of practicality and not doing number crunching, especially since I feel like both of them are rather nice and would likely be happy with either for day to day use.
On the N4 :
1) Extremely easy to unlock the bootloader (fastboot oem unlock, no codes, etc).
2) Extremely easy to add a custom recovery (fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img)
3) Extremely easy to just add a custom rom (boot up into recovery, wipe, adb push what you want, flash)
4) Rather easy to root stock AOSP once you got recovery (TWRP will isntall SuperSu for you, just let SuperSu do the rest)
5) More likely to use the shipped AOSP rom than I would HTC Sense
6) If google says a phone is getting an update, it's getting an update, none of that HTC BS bout Desire-HD getting ICS then all the sudden Nope.
And besides, it's nearly impossible to hard brick a Nexus 4, if you're a flash-a-holic, unlike the HTC One X that my brother somehow hard-bricked (he only had it rooted, nothing more) and just shut down and is a paperweight (I spent maybe 3 weeks on seeing if I could repair it before it got tossed).

What price those going to run at anyways? I mean if it's 200-300$ more than the normal edition with Sense, I'd rather get a Nexus4 that already had the same treatment, or wait until the AOSP version been out a while, root a normal OneX+ and then put a rooted AOSP rom based on that release onto it and save a few hundred. (assuming physically both models are the same... though not likely).
Though if the price is at what NewEgg has it at right now (399$ (50% off) for an Unlocked HTC One X+ 16GB) , then it's a bit of a tougher decision compared to the 350$ you'd pay for the N4 16GB. But if it's at the 600-700$ range... I'm going for the N4.

If she likes her iphone, your screwed.
I know how you feel, my wife uses an iPhone also and she won't even touch android. I tried to give her a gs3, she wouldn't even consider it. She says its too big and not as easy to use. I can't understand this but that's the way it is when your married. I gave up, its not worth all the pain. What ever the wife wants, that's what she gets.
Edit: If you haven't synced all her contacts with Google yet, this would be a good time to do it so when she gets her phone you can sign her in to Google and at least her contacts will be there. If she likes games, buy her a few. None of this could convince my wife though. But I wish you all the luck.

yea, it will really depend on the person and how she uses her iphone day to day. Tons will blindly follow iOS for no reasonable explanation other than it works or it's beautiful. There are others who maybe willing to try it. For my wife, the main thing she would miss are the games iOS offers. She plays all of those cutesy games that are just not available on Android. Also, she's not in the habit of plugging her phone in every day. Her 3GS lasts a while.
Well as for games I have a ton of them and she still has an ipad so I hope that doesn't prove to be an issue. Also I plan to set it up to look as iphonish as possible. I have several launchers I will try and see if I can't get it be a less painful transition.

Step one:
Don't set up the N4 to her tastes as it will be yours soon.
Step two:
Have a 99 dollar 4S waiting in a drawer for her.
Step three:
Set up your new N4!
Seriously though, this is a weighted question... If she uses an app not on the play store she'll be mad. But if she's not a heavy user, sync all her contacts to Google, buy all the apps she uses on iOS on the play store and set the phone up like her iPhone so it feels familiar. Then let her explore the awesomeness of android. My wife and I had iPhones, I had them all from the original to the 4S and she had up to the 4. Her 4 died and I didn't want to spend 150 bucks on a refurb when the 5 was a few months out, so I got her a HTC Vivid. It was easier for me as her iPhone was constantly having issues, so she was willing to try something different. That vivid actually got me to see the light. I was tired of the jail breaking cat and mouse game, so I sold my 4S and got a Vivid too. Obviously on a N4 now, but the jist of this is to just give her time, she'll like it eventually.

Android isn't even that hard to use, just get her use to the menu and back keys
Tell her to keep things as simple as possible when customizing stuff
Get her use to the app drawer also
The lock screen and how you answer calls
If she gets use to that she will be good, especially the back and menu button, that's what gets people confused the most
Hopes this helped

I am not sure I would consider following something that works to be blind. Lots of bugs, broken things, missing features in Android versus iOS. It is getting better fast (but think 4.2 was actually a setback).
OP... the N4 is a two handed device for a woman with smaller hands. Hell, I wear a large sized glove and it is still a two hander for many things with me, where I can reach everything pretty easy with one handed use on an iPhone.
You can sync contacts using Google (a pref in Address Book in the current system). The stock email client is missing a number of features... consider Aqua Mail.
You can sync Calendars using a cool little util named Smoothsync for iCloud, but ToDo's and Notes are a problem. I switched to Evernote and Google Tasks (but unfortunately there is no good Google Tasks client for the desktop.
If she is used to (and likes) the iTunes workflow you're in for even more resistance. There are pseudo-workarounds for Android, but none worth a damn IMHO. Many apps are better on iOS than Android (don't know if it is simply a matter of better dev tools or Android devs are lazy). Don't get me wrong, there are some great apps on Android, but many more on iOS.
If your wife ain't much of a gear head, the things that make Android stand out will be of little value to her, and the things that don't quite work as well as they should will be a constant annoyance. I kind of agree with those that remarked about you inheriting the N4 and having a 4S ready for the wife.
On the other hand, if your wife does not do a lot with her phone, she may not care.
Hope this helps!
torn between android & ios
Im still debating between the two! :silly:
Android, been through every high end device, trading and selling. Loved the nexus devices! I purchased a nexus 4 16gb first day, month later it came in the mail. Played with it for about a day traded for an iphone 5 32gb unlocked. Today I traded the iphone 5 32 for an iphone 5 16gb plus $200. I hardly use 8gb of data :good:
Placed order again for a Nexus 4 and its coming on monday! Do i return it or accept it?
Apple IOS: its very polished! the apps are very nice the ones I use. I hardly use any though. SMOOTH OS!! Would like some customization, JAILBREAK comes Sunday! So that can hold me over. Only downfall I have is being on 2g speeds! EDGE sucks! Although I am on wifi majority of the time it does make it somewhat okay. I am a business user and love the IOS!
Android: I enjoyed it, enjoyed rooting, unlocking, custom roms etc... BUT it GREW OLD to me and a WASTE of time. Half the time I spent was updating roms to fix bugs or other issues. Always trying to find the "perfect" rom! It was fun but wasted too much time. Yes I still like android, nexus 4 I used for a few hours and enjoyed it. SEXY phone and the 4.2 os has come along way. But my worry is with any android device I will want the next newest one. Plus I may go back to constantly checking for new roms and whats the best blah blah blah .... I would hope I could stick with the stock nexus 4 but the WANT to unlock bootloader and flash a custom rom is like crack!
I think that sums it up, ITS JUST A DAMN PHONE!

That is why girls love ios, it's simple, they can care less about updates on roms and such. My gf wanted the s3...well that lasted 1 week until she went back to 4s. Even if our androids can fly... girls would be like "it doesn't have this app I like though.... ANDROIDS SUCKS I hate this phone!"

i will be selling N4 for S4 need LTE
Won't sell my Nexus 4 until I get my Nexus 5
I had an S3, and I've not totally given up on Samsung after all the fuss over sources for developers etc, not what I like to see. Very happy still with my Nexus 4, nothing to make me consider an 'upgrade' (and I normally always demand the latest and greatest).
As for your first question, it's really entirely down to opinion. If you don't want any of the newer hardware on the GS4 (i.e. 1080p screen, octa-core processor, 13MP camera etc.) then don't bother. I personally don't see it as worth it at all. I would never be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p screens, I can't conceive of any task in the foreseeable future which the S4 Pro won't be able to handle, I don't use my camera too much and I don't need the expandable storage. Your opinion may well differ, and at the end of the day you definitely won't be able to get a definitive answer to this as it's all down to opinion.
As for the second question, there's already a thread in the Q&A about this (in which the vast majority of people answered no).
The only way id sell my n4 is to maybe get a n5. The s4 didnt really impress me an all of its new features seem gimmicky

Why, so someone that wants and will enjoy the n4 will get it, and then you can get and use what you want as well..
I'm thinking I'll eventually sell mine to get an xphone, maybe.. For the meanwhile I'm enjoying it
hopefully n5 will be better so no..who the hell likes touchwiz anyways
All these new phones could make your tea and replace your loved one in the bedroom for all i care they are all more than double the price so they can shove them where the sun doesn't shine.
*IF* the S4 is easy to develop for (probably not), then I would. The Nexus is only great in terms of development support. As a hardware platform, it's just meh....
- Horrible battery life compared to competing phones
- Screen not calibrated
- No LTE
- No SD card
- Only 16gb

personally i think that the SGS4 is a great phone BUT I don't see any reason for us (the moderate users) to take a leap for it and thats why:
the nexus 4 is amazingly fast, battery is just fine and if u need more than that get a portable charger, PURE android and fast updates so u don't get tied to the manufacturer's good will, I don't like the Super AMOLED display to my eyes the colors are too saturated but that doesnt mean they are not good.
i've bought the nexus after having 4 HTC devices and i must say pure android device is an another league, the custom UI is just slowing it down.
and so about the Exynos 5 Octa
this is NOT a real Octa core. this processor packs tow quad cores
4-cortex A7 @1.6ghz for power 'saving'
4-cortex A15 @ 1.2ghz for performance.
i dont believe in this concept but maybe it's just me.....
so i dont see reason to buy the sgs4 while u can enjoy the nexus 4.
just my opinion.....

- Go ahead and try different roms an kernels, you can double your screen on time with the right combination.
- Go ahead and try different kernels, as an example, the recomended values that comes with franco will blow your mind away.
- Well you have a point there, me personally don't need that LTE speed.
4,5 - Well, I don't really understand why people needs more than 16gb in a phone, is your phone a cinema theater or something that has tons of movies to store or what?

The CM team debunked that.
https://plus.google.com/117962666888533781522/posts/7jywLJdswki
Setting Device Expectations
Let’s start with the simplest form of this: CyanogenMod does not pre-announce support or lack of support for devices. Ever. Even for the Nexus 4, we did not announce support until a nightly build was available. Further, any announcement regarding the ‘dropping’ of device support will be communicated via this Google+ page, Twitter, Facebook, our blog, or a combination of those; it will not be something buried in a forum post.
This morning, a comment from a CM collaborator on XDA was taken to be as an ‘absolute’ in regards to support of the S4. He offered the opinion of four TeamHacksung maintainers, their frustrations and lack of interest in supporting the S4. What’s seemingly lost on those reading this is that his comments as an individual do not speak for CyanogenMod as an organization.
As for the team’s stance on the S4, there isn’t one at this time, and most definitely won’t be one before the device is sold at retail.

I should add that whether you sell your Nexus 4 to buy an S4 is completely up to you. That is an extremely personal decision, and only the OP can decide that. Anything else is just everyone else's personal opinion, and is usually going to go between people who actually use and love the Nexus 4 (or Nexus in general), and those who don't but post here anyway. Being as this is the Nexus 4 board, I would think the question is most likely going to be slanted in one direction.
