[Q] CM10 Alpha 1 and game issues - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently flashed the new CM10 Alpha 1 ROM. I love it! Most of my games play fine except for one and for the life of me I can't figure out why. It ran fine on CM7.2, my phone with ICS, N7's, etc.
The game is Bubble Wars by Modular Dreams Incorporated.
Since upgrading my NC from CM7.2 to CM9 and CM10, I have not been able to get the game to play. I can load the app and it opens to the main screen where I can choose which to play (Attack or Defend). At this point all animation stops and I can't select anything. I've cleared the cache, cleared data, uninstalled, reinstalled and still it does not work.
Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas of what to try next?
Thanks in advance.

I can't really help, just letting you know I have the same problem. I like Bubble Wars on my Nook, but it would lock up my phone (CM10 based ParanoidAndroid). Now that I have CM10 on the Nook, it locks up the same. I'm thinking the game doesn't like CM10.

Good to know I'm not the only one having problems. I've emailed the developer and he is looking into it. You can email him your issues (be as descriptive as you can) and that will help him.

The issues I have are exactly identical on both my devices:
Motorola Atrix 4G running Paranoid Android 2.16
Nook Color running CM10 alpha 1 and Paranoid Android 2.xx
The first issue is an apparent freeze when starting the game. When you go to choose the game mode it appears to be frozen, but if you persist with tapping the screen it will eventually take your selection.
The second issue is probably the same as the first. When attempting to play the game it appears to be frozen, but if you persist with tapping the screen it will eventually shoot the ball. The extra twist is that the aiming aid arrow is always displayed and does respond to each and every touch, it just doesn't shoot the ball.
I can get a screenshot showing the aiming aid if you want.

CM10 Beta 3 is out now. Should work if you install this ROM.

I just received an email from the developer. An update should be out Monday.

are you comparing to 10.1 or leaked 10.2?
I'm pretty sure he means the market version. It says 10.1, but when you update it, it says 10.2.
I downloaded 10.2 on my HTC desire as well. I don't know what is wrong but it's a destruction for my phone. Fullscreen videos on YouTube is a definitely no-go since it only plays a couple of choppy seconds and then I need to remove the battery in order to make it work. Watching videos in non fullscreen was a bit better since I could watch around 40 seconds of it until everything stuck.
It is just not working for me. Far worse than the previous.
Just watched an hour-long programme on bbc iplayer on my A70H which would not have been possible with the old flash. BUT, the sound was several seconds out of sync by the end which is not exactly perfect.
So, a huge step forward but we still have a bit further to go yet.
Having said that - I'm just watching some iPlayer stuff off the website on my iMac and that's getting out of sync too, so maybe it's not anything to do with the tablet or Android!
Aaarrgg! Now I can't install even the leaked Flash 10.2!
I had no trouble uninstalling the leaked 10.2 on my A43 and then locating and installing the official Flash 10.2 from the Android Market. A piece of cake. Not so good on my A101. I uninstalled the leaked 10.2 and then went to Market. I couldn't find Flash 10.2. So I went to Market on my desktop PC and found it. It then refused to install it claiming it was not compatible with my device. So then I tried a few other things like clearing the market cache and the Google Framework data. BAD IDEA! I broke Market. So now I installed the gapps 5 final and I have market back exactly as before. When I try to install the leaked 10.2, it errors out, so I installed the 10.1 I had from before.
So how do I fix this? I'd like to have the official Flash 10.2 and what's with Market saying my A101 is not compatible with it while my A43 is? They both have the same recent firmware.
Bye.

[Q] Problem with Youtube with the new update

Google just released the new update for Youtube app in Android Market.
After I updated the app on my Nook Color, running on CM 7 RC, I found that Youtube app failed to load any clip at all.
Does anyone have this problem? I also have Nexus 1 which is updated as well but doesn't have such a problem.
Any ideas? Is it possible to downgrade Youtube by uninstalling it?
** My Nexus 1 recently has a new Market app but my NC is yet not upgraded. Is it going to be a big matter for a rooted NC?

I have the same problem, it keeps loading and never actually loads the vids. So good thing i made a back up before upgrading. I cleared app data, wiped dalvik/cache and still a no go. It seems other phones are also having problems with the update. I
All these new google apps are messed up -_-

Working OK here; CM7 nightly (151).
Hmmm. I just realized that Google AD, which plays right before the clip, is loaded and played. However, the clip I touched in is having a problem: "There was a problem while playing. Touch to Retry."
In the moment the HQ button appears, unchecked it. Videos will play in low quality fine. Waiting on a fix.

Reading the rating comments for the Youtube app in the market, it appears that this problem isn't limited to the NC and is occuring on several other platforms also.
I have only been able to get 1 video to play correctly. While watching my router's status lights, I can see that the videos are downloading but all I get is the spinny arrow or the "Touch to retry" error.
I just noticed when I went to the market website that Youtube is now listed as not compatible. Adobe flash as well. Funny when you consider they are both part of the stock setup. It's pretty clear Google is blocking apps not so much based on the device but whether it is rooted or not. Question is, all rooted devices or only those with CM7 on them?

Same here I saw a new YouTube update on my G2, this morning, and when I went to update it on my nook, it wouldn't allow me to update.

Another thing I noticed with the Youtube update is the restriction of certain videos from being played on mobile devices. Luckily, I had a backup of a pre-screwy Youtube and market update sd image and things are running fine again.
It really makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes at google to cause them do all of this.
Yeah I'm having the same problem. Reverted to a backup and it's working again. This is on the latest release candidate.
Sent from my Nook Color!
It's working fine for me. I even played a HQ vid with on problem. I will say that when I clicked on one of the front page videos it just sat and spun its wheels but when I searched for something it played without any delay.
What version of CM7 is everyone using?
I am running 7.0.3 and was having problems with the updated youtube.
7.1.0-RC1 here.
yeah, youtube 2.2.16 will not work on my nook, but works fine on my htc aria. not sure why
nook: cm7 n155 / aria: cm7 n162
Same here. Running cm7 rc1 off of sd card. Some videos ran fine others didn't. Revered to old version on backup.

Nightly 151 off sd card here. Everything working fine with updated youtube. Every vid I tried played ok.
Same problem here with YouTube 2.2.16 not playing High Quality (HQ) videos on the Nook Color running CM7. Those of you who say it's not playing anything, your YouTube app may default to HQ video. As soon as the video downloading spinning circle appears on the screen, tap the screen in landscape mode to see the toggle switch to turn HQ off for that video. The low quality video should load up after you turn off HQ.
Anyway, last night I remembered that in the early days of rooting the NC we had the same problem with HQ video in the YouTube app. I tried the fix for that old problem last night and it worked on 2.2.16. All I did was sign out of my YouTube account, force stopped the app, cleared cache and data, and rebooted the NC. After reboot open the YouTube app, accept the TOS, and it should work. When everyone had this problem earlier this year, it would sometimes come back and we'd do the routine again to make it go away. I don't know what eventually solved the problem last time (an update fixed it?), but maybe the same behind-the-scenes permanent fix will solve the problem with 2.2.16.

Tried this - some videos are playing now in HQ but not others. Strange. For example I selected one artist and two of her videos would play but two wouldn't. After rollback to 2.1.6 they all play.
When I have a situation like this where the updated version of an app works much worse than the prior (Skype, Okcupid notably), I roll back and then use Titanium to force-detach it from the Market.
Even if there wasn't a problem playing videos with the new update, I still would roll back to the previous version.
I find it irritating as hell that this new version of the Youtube player has incorporated the "do not play on mobile devices" block on some videos. I did not like this "feature" on the Youtube Ipodtouch app and never could figure out the reasoning behind it.

[Q] CM9 (SD Card) Google Play can't download some FREE apps anymore

I was running CM9 latest without any issues. I've downloaded a bunch of free apps...no problem.
All of a sudden, I can't download some FREE apps any more. I get the message :
"Error processing purchase"
Lots of people are having this kind of issue and I haven't found a fix for it yet. I have not tried uninstalling it and reinstalling yet.
I've tried clearing the data/cache in the app area. That did not help.
Its really odd.....some of the freebie's I can.....some I can't
Time and a couple of reboots seemed to fix that same problem (on a different ROM) for me.
I don;t think Google has all the bugs worked out of the new Play Market.. I get random errors on various apps when I try to update or download. Most work, but some can't finish the download or won't download at all.
Thanks......but very weird
Yeah, strange things happen on the new Play Market even on my stock Motorola Droid X2
So I shut the nook down for a while...started it up again and now I can download free apps again. No changes.
The problem was going on for days before I posted here.

Nahhhhhh , Google is playing with their Play implementation , getting ready for their big movie and cloud grand opening. I would expect random issues for a few weeks.
Something to look forward to!
PLAY is been a real mess.
It is not only in CM9, and it seems to affect only certain apps. I have the same problem with one game that I had installed on other SD several times before but have trouble today. While other apps installed fine.
Any possibility of reverting back to an earlier Market app if this continues? I don't have this problem (yet) but always anticipate the worst from Google. Running racks' triple boot now, everything hunky-dory.
I think the problems are on Google's server side not the app. I have seen reports from people that reverted back to old market and still had the problems.

Google Play Magazines

Hi guys,
I have been a Nexus 10 user since its release, my other android devices currently are a Nexus 4 and a i9305t, previously a Gnex and a Nexus S.
All my android devices are rooted and on a custom rom.
Primarily, the Nexus 10 has been difficult due to battery life and charging mostly. I have been using PA 3.0x for the past few months, and I decided to update to PA 3.6 with the latest Gapps yesterday, since then I have not been able to resolve my "Google Play Magazine has stopped" error.
I have at this point done a full factory reset, formatted the internal SD card, and now tried a different rom (Revolt 4.4) all of which have been unsuccessful at fixing the Google Play Magazine app..
I have googled for a solution with very little success. I am hoping that someone here can help me out.
cheers
Marcel
have you tried reinstalling (maybe redownloading) gapps. or uninstall play magazines and reinstall from the market?
good luck

Hi Sdmark,
I have attempted to uninstall GP Magazines app using titanium backup, and reinstalling via the playstore. I have also tried a factory reset with a different/older set of gapps with no success.
This issue has been resolved as of 45 mins ago. I have been talking to Google Play store support from Utah (I am from Melbourne, Australia)
after submitting my error logs, the issue seems to have resolved itself automatically.
I had done nothing on the tablet since talking to the support (about 3 hours ago) till 45 mins ago where I just decided to give it a go while sitting on the porcelain throne and no FC this time. So as far as I can tell, the fix was something on their end of things, at least thats what i suspect... the FC happens just as GP Magazines signs in.
*im an idiot, problem is still there in landscape.. didnt even think about the different viewing modes.. so the problem is only happening while landscape.
Thanks the assistance though, very much appreciated.
edit: Please dont close the thread, I have realized that Google Play Magazines does not have the problem when in portrait mode... the moment i go to landscape it crashes... is this a rom issue?
bump! still a problem, 99% instant FC when in landscape mode... (1% is when the magazine is opened from portrait, it sometimes doesnt FC when tilted to landscape.. the moment you leave the magazine and get back to the magazine selection menu in Landscape, it will FC)
pretty much the only reason i pick up this tablet over any other device lying around is for magazine reading
I have no idea. I actually use the magazines app too, and have had no problems with it. I'm using cleanrom.
I've had the same problem, does seem to work for a minute or 2 if I clear all data and reinstall the app ...but after collecting my account data it FC's again - this has been going on for months and Google Play support haven't been able to reproduce or fix the issue for me....really frustrating

Touchscreen doesn't work on some games?

Hey all,
I am on the CM build posted in the T-Mobile dev section for my d801 On some games, my touchscreen will not work at all. CSR Racing, Megatroid, and --- are an example of 3 that do not work. I can play some games like Dots and Field Runners that work just fine. I noticed this first when trying to play CSR between ROMs. I have tried the posted PA, AOKP, and CM ROMs and they all exhibit the same behavior in those games.
I tried some searches but I haven't seen anyone with a problem like this in any phone. I went as far as to enable the touchscreen layout visualization in developer options and there aren't even any touch boxes defined, according to that tool.
I'm trying a fresh installation to see if it does the same thing. I'm thinking maybe another program is somehow interfering with this? I tried disabling lux, llama, and screen off and lock because I thought those programs may affect this condition but nothing has changed.
Any thoughts on what to try next?
Just tried a fresh install of Slimbean, activated my Google account, downloaded CSR Racing and the touch screen didn't work for the game. I could still hit the hardware buttons but couldn't do anything in the game. Frustrating!
We need the developers to figure this one out. Someone posted some logs over at the CM thread which hopefully would be useful to them.
