On so my first post and I have watched noob video and it scared the crap outta me for my first post but my apologizes first. So sorry if this is the wrong section and I did research the topic first but it hasn't helped in me finding a solution so here goes ...
Question please, if you can help me. I followed your intruction as per the Wugfresh rooting tool 1.5.4, now when I got to the step to click the root button I also checked the box with the custom recovery and then hit root. My table then gets stuck in the screen with the android guy lying down with his compartment open on his stomach, (like I said I'm a noob) lock state is unlocked. A message appears on my PC screen that states "Waiting for your device to finish booting back up ..."
I tried unplugging the tablet and tried pluggin back in and hitting root again without the recovery and nothing seems to happen even the screen remains the same after I unplug the device.
I have since tried and researched on the forum and seen others with the problem and a new version that Wugfresh has put out a 1.5.1 referencing this issue but unfortunately I cannot find the download for this software anywhere. I followed the link that seemed most viable to download the software but seems that is just takes me back to the original post with the 1.5.4 download ....
Help please and again sorry for wasting anyones time if this is a wrong thread spot or if this has been covered.
Android 4.1.2 and build number is JZ054K

You are better off posting in the toolkit section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
Wugfresh is online. I'm sure he can help you learn to use his tool better.

I got my I5800 today, and knew about 2.2 and wanted to upgrade. I followed the guide, downloaded odin, ops files, all that. The process seemed to go well, it rebooted and then stayed at the "Samsung" screen and I waited over 20 minutes and nothing..
Now my phone doesn't work.. Doesn't go past the SAMSUNG screen...
Someone please help, I'm at noob with androids :/
Edit: Reverted back to the firmware version I wrote down that it had, and tried again and it worked
You don't need to start a new thread to report this...
Read This at first:
RTFM
Later you RTFM, you just can use the "Search" tool to find solutions...
If you don't do this, you are not able to flash/restore or do anything in advance. You just need to be a simple user...
Its like to buying a new TV or Microwave oven, at first you RTFM to power on later...
Please, just read!
I decided to go ahead with the TW firmware upgrade. Everything seemed to be going fine until I tried to install it and it told me there was an error and I needed to hook it up to Kies first. I had already been using Kies with it on my Macbook for a couple weeks now so I went ahead and plugged it in. Kies recognized it as usual and all the information came up.
So I went on and tried to install again and it said it needed to reboot.
It reboots and comes to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 screen like normal (right before it starts the galaxy animation). Next thing I know it comes to a screen that looks like the attached images! I immediately unplugged it from Kies and shut it down. Every time I start it back up it does the same thing. I honestly have NO idea what to do. I can't even return it as it's past the 14 day period and I (stupidly) didn't buy Staples' bogus $160 insurance.
I was not rooted before. This was a stock tab that I bought at staples. It had the firmware 4.24 when I bought it, I think.
Please, any help is appreciated. I tried doing firmware recovery in Kies but the pop up comes up in Korean and I have no idea what it says...
Edit: More info. I'm not the only one with this problem. Two other people have posted on AndroidPolice about this. http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/08/04/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-wifi-touchwiz-ux-update-is-now-live/
The software is definitely running underneath all that mess but it's literally impossible to see what is going or to touch anything.
I guess this thread is about the same issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203610
Thanks, I'm checking the thread out now. I probably should have searched more than just Google before posting but I freaked out when it happened.
No need to freak out . we have xda and dev to solve all our problems
i have exactly the same problem as you... what should i do now?
I get the same screen but after rebooting! pfft it's making me really sad :\
I'm sorry but I tried reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089 and couldnt understanding what should I do!

I just want my normal screen back!
Please tell me what to do in simple english :\

So I need to follow all the steps for rooting except the last one which is the actual rooting? Great thanx! Do I need to use Kies? My current computer is Mac but I guess I need to download those things to a Windows machine to make it work, right?
Thank you very much
I had the same problem. I upgraded the update on my non-rooted tablet and got the funked up video mess. Per instructions from Samsung support, I hard booted to the recovery menu (power+vol down, then power up, down on download screen) and did the factory wipe. After that I ended up with the black screen. I could tell things were working in the back but couldnt see a thing. I figured I would throw it on the Kies and it saw that there was a factory upgrade so I let the Kies run through it and it works fine now.
Dont know if this will help w/other but it worked for me.
so i had jwr66v rooted with superSU twrp cmw 6.035 or whast ever.
now i have updated to ******y and i tried to flash a ROM in in CWM but it did nothing. at all. i rebooted into recovery only to get a droid on his back with a red ! coming out his belly. um problem here. i opened super Su and it said i need to reroot because i have installed 4.3
how can i reroot if i can't access recovery.
tried using toolkit to reroot (un root to stock first) but it froze now having this problem: post #455

anyone?
Just flash recovery from cmd/terminal using fastboot.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
never used it. details would be nice.
Want details? There are stickies and tutorials for a reason. Lemme guess, you used a toolkit to root it the first time?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
sure I'll follow one of your tutorials. most of the time written as if we know every detail about android development jargon. oh and most tuts have missing details that usually means moderate technical knowledge people have to make assumptions when following those instructions. another issue I'm funding with following "stickies" is because there are so many different ways to update and so many different versions of root tools made by many different clever developers. sometimes they don't all work together. most of the time i will follow some developers half thrown together set of instructions only to have to redo the instructions 3 of 4 times because of the reasons all mentioned above.
short response to your reply. i followed a simple tutorial put up by a developer and most likely used a tool kit. now i have issues. rather then spend countless hours hunting for else who has had the same problem and actually posted it, i decided to ask the question so someone like yourself that enjoys spending hours each night balls deep in code can give me a simple link or basic set of instructions so i can have some relief.
Adb and fastboot. Those are the only tools you need to use.
If I had been in your shoes, I would have done a bit of googling on the term 'fastboot recovery'
I don't know why some people make this so hard. This is a developer site, if you don't want to learn, you shouldn't be here. Considering all this **** is literally spelled out for you with step by step documentation, it doesn't make any sense to click that 'new thread' button when this issue is so common.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
yeah googling more is what got me following half arse instructions and wading hours of my day. so which part of your detailed instructions would have led you ( if in my shoes) to Google fast boot recovery?
well I have now downloaded the latest tool kit so i can un root. then I'm going to hunt through countless posts and try find which is the best way to root and install cm10.x hopefully next time their is an update i won't have to reroot just to get all my little root access apps back.
ps this is the trouble shoot q&a section not the developers only section. hence why i posted here.
Welcome to xda-DEVELOPERS.com.
Maybe you missed that part. The domain name isn't xda-hold-lazy-asses-hand-and-make-their-device-cool.com
You are expected to read, comprehend, and take initiative to learn. Asking for a hand holding session is not the way.
If you would bother reading the stickies, you would see how easy it is to flash recovery. There is a tutorial in the damn stickies that literally walks you through the process.
Hint: every goddamn nexus gets rooted and recovery flash the same way regardless of what version of android you are on
I don't know how much more plain and simple we could be here.
Fastboot flash recovery name of recovery.IMG
I mean wtf how could you NOT find that?

READ!
heres another hint. you need a recovery made SPECIFICALLY for your device 'tilapia'
so..... thanks for the pointless rant, after re read many guides and how tos, also wasting a saturday. still cant get the bootloader to update from version 4.13 (read post 1 again) not even using fastboot. Use stock images for Android 4.2 and not 4.3 to avoid that error.
But i'm not sure why you want to flash anything else than recovery? Do you want to get it back to pure stock?
This is my first post on here, but I've used these forums before to root my S3 and at one time my current S4. My problem is with MF3... I used
this post [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577] to root my phone once, but since I couldn't install TWRP or CWM, I thought I could downgrade the software version with Odin. Well, I was wrong, and I unrooted my phone in the process... Upon trying the same technique I mentioned earlier, it now says "permission denied" upon entering the first prompt <<cd /mnt/extSdCard>>
AND, I can't use Odin to factory reset. Using posts such as this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZTTTk7vbVM] doesn't seem to work either. When putting my phone into download mode, I pull up Odin, and select the file in the link (the software file .tar I think), it says it fails shortly after starting.
Really, I need help with two things:
1. Obtaining root access
2. Resetting phone to factory settings
I might not have to do a factory reset, but I've noticed my wifi will NOT enable since I unrooted and this is a big concern for me. I know that all my troubles are because the bootloader is locked (and I'm messing with stuff I don't fully understand...), which is why I'd like help obtaining root again in the final hope that Safestrap [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448925] is the answer I'm looking for so I can use my favorite ROM, LiquidSmooth!
PLEASE help me any way you can! I've tried to provide as much information as I can think of, but I'm new to this stuff, so bear with me. I have no real experience in rooting and whatnot, but so far, I've followed directions by users of this forum, so I have faith that there's a solution to this mayhem. Thanks for any help you can provide! =)
Your first mistake was not reading about what you can and can not do while on mf3. Your second was trying to put a recovery on. And your third was trying to use Odin to down grade your firmware.
I'm surprised your not having issues booting. The only way right now to get your phone back to normal is to see if best buy will flash the mf3 firmware for you
Edit, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45359306

I guess you're trying to be helpful, but your condescending tone isn't helping. I READ everything, I just don't UNDERSTAND everything... The second paragraph actually provided some help, so thanks for that. I was just hoping for something I could do myself to re obtain root so that I can try the Safestrap method I provided in my original post. I will post a reply to the root method post and see if anyone can help me there, since that's my main issue is not being able to get root access back. I don't have any problems booting though, only when I boot into recovery mode do I get a loop in which I just have to get to the Samsung warning screen and select "cancel (reboot phone)". Thanks for reading this and providing some direction.

No, your main issue is that you don't understand what you are reading and you shouldn't be doing anything to your phone until you do. Dozens of people just like you pass through this forum everyday with similar issues because they didn't read or take the time to understand what it was that they did read. Someone takes the time to tell them to read and learn and they don't listen or think they don't have to. Then, they screw their phones up and come back here crying for help. So it's not a condescending tone, it's people getting tired of the same crap. You admitted that you didn't understand everything you read so why would you do anything to your phone before you do understand it? Can you not see the problem?
OK so massive apologies in advance because ive read about 500 posts that say this has been answered but i swear to christ i cant find it for the life of me. ive been at this for about a week trying to root this piece of **** and i finally am doing the one thing i said i wouldn't..... post a post that has apparently already been answered.
To start with here are the facts of what ive done tried and know. I started out with 6.0.1 marshmallow on my device. Following http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/help/help-hi-im-noob-trying-to-root-phone-t3421821 post #2 i downgraded to 5.1.1 because at the time it was my understanding that was what was required. i still dont know if i even needed to do that now. after i did that i watched about 100 youtube videos all telling me different **** saying that i needed to transfer super-su and emotion over to the phone which i later found out was just kernel then reboot using odin and the recovery twrp file and send the device directly into recovery mode then wipe the data and install the files transfered to the device earlier inside recovery. then i watched one saying "no dont do that instead use kingoroot from ur pc and then super sume pro to wipe the files off. that just kept shutting off my phone cuz of how unstable the temp root was then i read some posts saying use adb script which i tried and failed at horribly. so bottom line is yes im a noob and yes i need a bit of hand holding as this is my first root ever and i really dont want to turn my phone into a brick. again i apologize for my ignorance but any help what so ever of even pointing me in the right direction would be helpful.
