OTG storage question - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK mine is working..have a 32gb flash drive. I'm running low on space on my Nexus so was wondering how to move some of the high MB games. TDKR, Bards Tale, etc. They are not moveable with app2sd. I find them with root explorer but there are several files in different locations. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks.

You can move them with OTG but then you wouldn't be able to play them... If you aren't planning on playing them, why not delete them and reinstall when you want to play?
I am not aware of an easier to do what you're asking.

OK. I was hoping I could still play them. I only have about 4 GB left and I don't like being so low on space. I'm still playing so I'll just leave as is for now. Thanks.

Did you try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1910051

Awesome. Thank you very much, exactly what I was looking for. I'll try this when I have a little free time. 12+ hour workdays are killing me right nowm

memory problem???? 10gig in use?

i just bought a galaxy tab 10.1v
i have some small apps installed and one game (stupid zombies) and google body and when i check my installed apps it says i have 10gb in use and only 4 gb free? is this of the entire 16gb?
is this normal or something my fault?
Go to the "Storage" tab in settings. it will tell what is using all of the space.
It says 9.9 gb in use of programs?

Try using Settings->Applications->Storage Use. That will show you which applications are using how much storage. It looks like the preloaded Dungeon Defenders uses a whopping 631MB. My next biggest app is Fruit Ninja THD (which totally surprised me) at 27.5MB.
Ok i will try but dungeon defenders isnt pre installed on mine?

I checked it and the program with the most memory in use is galery with 30mb but thats it. Still 9.9 gb in use??? Someone help?

I would try a factory reset, and check again. Something is definitely not right.
I already tried it yesterday and the same day it saying 9.9gb in use

There is not a "Total In Use" field in the Storage view of the Settings app.
The fields are "Total Space", "Available" and one field for each application.
What are these fields in your case?
9.9 in Use and 4.2 free

You are not looking to the Storage view in the Settings app. Where are you getting these values from?
Please, go to the Storage view in the Settings app for real and report what you see there.
I find my values with
Menu
Settings
Apps
Memory use
Do i have to look somewhere else?

Yes, go to Settings->Storage
Ok found it
Total 14,12gb
Media 23,12 mb
Applications 10,02 gb
Available 4,08gb
And i have no games installed

OK, now that we know that some apps are consuming the 10GB, go where you went before (Settings->Applications->Storage Use), select All applications and, one by one, check the Total Storage field for each application in the list.

My mistake, I thought it was pre-installed, but I don't really remember - my initial startup was a blur because I botched the initial link to my google account and then when I went back to connect to Google it didn't feel compelled to download any of my account's apps and so I spent an hour or so manually installing a bunch of stuff that I don't remember.
the biggest is the original gallery app and it is 30MB
Try to uninstall Google Body, I read somewhere that caused this issue.
i uninstalled it yesterday but the issue is still the same?
Start from here:

I don't know, probably this is the same issue.

Can you remove a game but keep the save?

I need more storage.

Not that I'm aware of. Maybe something like Titanium Backup could find the data file and back it up. I'm not sure how many people have tried to backup OUYA game data.

With such small storage space you need to be able to save your fills if you. delete a game. More storage is what we need.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Isn't there already a solution (app) that can move data files off to a HDD?
I haven't tried Titanium Backup on Ouya but with root access, it should work. Google has support for cloud saves but without the framework I don't think this is an option.
DataSync+ requires root and backs up data to the cloud. It also will auto search your network for other DataSync devices and allow syncing (so you can keep multiple devices in sync).
If you have a large drop box or box.net storage this is probably your best option.

I need to know if there a place to find just the save data.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
this is more game dependent. I know you can with GTA3 and GTAVC. The files are in the android/data directory and are composed of the three files. The large extra files are stored in the android/ogg directory. You just need to start a game after reinstalling, than can replace with your old game saves.
Other games, you'll have research or experiment.
Some games have where you can save to the cloud and sync, such ad Dead Trigger. This allows to play across multiple devices easily.
Gta3 is side loaded that doesn't help with things like sonic or a bards tale. I just thought they would have a update for this and to make more storage. You can even go to a list of the games you own so you know what you have.

Does gta3 and vice city work side loaded?

I got mine from the Google play store can they be side loaded.

No one's going to help you with pirates APKs. Root your Ouya and install Google Play.

If you have them on your nexus, you can use es filemanager to backup the apks to the internal storage, then copy them to your pc.
You can also use a program called RealAPK Leecher, and log in with your google account. It will let you download the apks for apps you own on the google play store.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563894
Also, just fyi, before i got the play store working on the ouya, i found out that if you just try to launch the apks, you will get an error. it checks the google store for purchase authorization, and if it doesnt find the store on your ouya, it wont download the data files. If the data files are already in place, it works fine. If you have the games already installed on your nexus, you can copy the data files from there onto the ouya. I copied them from my nook, and it worked fine.
do as the above post says, including copying the ogg data files over. After you start a game on the Ouya, you can copy your save games from the data directory to the Ouya.
The games run fine. But you may want to use a PS3 or something because the Ouya controller doesn't have a start button so you can't access the menu system. It's just a quirk.
Thanks I will give it a try.

[Q] out of space?

My wife just got an M as a replacement for her old Rezound. She has had it for about three weeks and the phone is already telling her she is out of internal storage. However, when I look at her storage it appears that only her "Backup ASSISTANCE Plus" is full. It's unfortunately causing her phone to be worthless. Does anyone know how to fix this? Her phone is completely stock. Thanks in advance.

couple of tips:
1.) don't use backup assistance - use google to store your contacts
2.) make sure that your camera settings are set to save pics/vids to the mnt/external1 folder (no sdcard in internal storage)

Might also want to disable Backup Assistant in the Application Settings.
Also, clear the cache and make sure that no leftover OTA updates are stored.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to disable it but it wouldn't let me. I'll take another look tonight. I don't want to do a hard reset unless I have to but if I can't disable it, I'll have no other choice.

Conclusion. This phone sucks if you can't put apps on the SD. 8gb internal hard drive is really only 4 gigs.

If you root, you can easily store apps on external. Also, internal is partitioned into 4gb halves. One for the the ROM and the other for media/etc. Personally, I don't understand how people fill that up so quickly. I use very few apps and all my media gets stored to my external SD. I'm still sitting at about 3.5GB available on my storage side.

I understand it's portioned but I've never seen a phone require half of its internal storage. As for media, it's all going to her card. I guess if you use few apps your ok, but that's not the case with a 5 year. You shouldn't have to root for a phone to be functional with a relatively low amount of apps in use.

Do you know if the phone was previously rooted? I know that nandroid backups get saved to internal storage if you don't specify and they will eat up the storage space quickly.

It came straight from Verizon as a replacement phone so all I know is that it's a refurbished phone. I cleaned up the backup assistance so hopefully that will help. I have a theory that triggered the warning and loss of functionality. We'll see. If it pops back up, it's going back to Verizon.

Makes sense since this phone is loaded with it. This is our first Motorola smartphone. Is that a Motorola issue with excess bloat? I know all phones have it but this seems like a lot considering the limited amount of internal memory.

bloat is an issue with all Verizon android phones (the bloat helps bring down the costs on the device).
one of the drawbacks to this device is the lack of internal memory. however, the bigger drawback is in the OS that prevents folks from moving apps to their SD Card.
but once I rooted, and installed a "clean ROM", I got a lot more space.
with your wife's phone, I suspect she has the latest OTA baseband (check the phone settings, if the baseband is prior to May 2013, then you are in luck - DO NOT ACCEPT the UPDATE). if the baseband reads May 2013, then your only option is to gain root access and freeze/delete the bloatware.
if space is an issue, I highly recommend to go this route. otherwise, start trimming some of the apps she never uses.

[Q] Bad storage reading

Hi all,
I've got a nexus 4 here, running paranoid android 3.9, and my storage is just not right, When I calculate the taken up space by stuff like music, apps, others I should have a bit over 3gb of free space. And my phone says I've got 1gb. Any idea of what might be the problem?
I'll post a snapshot tomorrow when I get to the computer, for some reason it doesn't wanna post it from a phone.
Thanks!

Use the app Disk Usage: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage
When you use it, make sure you click /data not just sdcard because /data directory is more accurate for checking storage
Thanks,
CWM backups take a bit more space then the ones on my old phone, where they would be around 500mb and on my nexus is around 2gb
