I found this and was curious if anyone has tried it with the N7 and gotten any noticeable gains in speed or battery life?
I have flashed it on my stock N7, I haven't seen any speed improvements, but the other features are nice

It's working good u need to try it
I stay away from `mods' like that.. If I have to set time aside to read the laundry list and not be distracted from the `marketing' associated with it then I don't want it on my device.
Just placebo and fluff. I'd stay away from it as well.

Hey All,
I'm looking for a rom and having trouble figuring out which one will best suit my needs. Typically, I would just download a bunch of roms and try them out, but I'm stuck in China with a low data ceiling on a very slow connection for the foreseeable future. I really need to be like 80% sure before I download.
I've been running CleanRom since the summer, and that has been a great experience, but CleanRom is no longer being developed, so I'm no longer up to date.
I want something with integrated tablet mode, and I would like something with a volume slider in the notification tray. Wifi toggle switch would also be ideal (I prefer not to use apps for these features). Aside from those features, I just need the most stable rom possible. Additional customization isn't necessary. In fact, pure stock outside of the features I listed would be great. And I'm obviously not looking for nightly builds. I want something to throw on here and leave on until the next Android update.
Does anyone know a rom that meets this criteria? If you have suggestions, I would love to hear them, and then I'll go read some threads.
I really appreciate the help.

Check Glazed Jellybean here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796668
I've been running this rom since 1.1.2 and have been very pleased with it. My current setup is Glazed JB 2.0 with the included Franco kernel, and Nova Launcher Prime for a launcher. I'm also using Pimp My Rom 2.0 for additional tweaks, but from the sounds of it you may not even want that.
Good luck in your search.

Ivbeen looking at that one too, but the feedback seems to indicate that it might be more buggy. Have you had this experience?

You want a solid rom? Team EOS is going to be your best bet. Very minimal isnt loaded with a bunch of crap you wont use. Has its own toggles however are kind of an eyesore IMO. You could just use an app to do the same thing i recommend "Extended Controls" Its a dollar.. but well worth it. LOL reread your OP oops.. :S
Also if you have the pull down.. and swipe in the middle to either the right or the left.. it will swap the Date and clock to a volume slider on the left and a brightness slider on the right .
The only problem I've had with this rom is the oft mentioned error about invalid glazed 2.0 init.. and it's more of a minor nuisance than anything. Functionality does not seem to have a problem, and I'm sure the message has something to do with Glazed being based on a CM nightly.. a bad integer table entry perhaps. Either way, my overall experience has been great with this setup.. buttery fast, and buttery smooth.

Thanks for getting back to me on that. I've got a list of three I'm investigating. Trying out this CM10 kang first.
I've had very good luck with cm10. I've tried a few others but keep coming back to cyanogenmod. It's stable and has the features I want. On my Tablet I have many of them turned off, but it's nice for my phone. I

What are the best advantages of CM10.1 on the Nexus 4?
I get a little better battery life and I like the split notification/toggle pull down menu. Make a backup and try it out for a day.

Thanks! One more questions PLEASE! How can I post on "Nexus 4 Original Android Development" page? I am always told I need to have atleast 10 posts but I already have 10 posts and still cannot post there? I really want to be able to post there :/
CM 10.1 gives you more customization options
This is a good question to be honest, I have yet to see a post that explains in detail what is to gain by using CM as opposed to stock on a Nexus 4. Personally I don't see the need to flash a rom, but then again I don't know exactly what does CM bring. It would be nice if someone compiled the definitive list of features CM has that jelly bean 4.2.1 stock lacks.
I have same question. Any good summary?

It's basically stock ROM, but with add-ons and tweaks, little things that Google has to fix yet.
I find two tweaks really useful, the first one, the quick settings panel, in CM the buttons are toggles, and not just shortcuts. Also, quiet hours is pretty useful IMO. Battery life is much better than stock ROM, and even that right now there are only nightlies, CM is quite stable because we have nexus
You should try it, if you don't like CM, there are a lot of ROMs that you can try.

Another thing to mention is that you receive security updates more often (when received from a trusted source) und most important IMO you can get rid of that bloatware delivered with most phones. This is especially important with "Non Nexus phones". Also many extra features, as shown above, are included and you donĀ“t need a special app.
Yup CM10.1 is the only custom ROM i'd use on the N4.. all others just seem to play catchup.
Hello, I'm wondering which is best for features, battery life, general use, performance etc...? I've searched and don't see much. Just wondering what u guys prefer, thanks!

rasbeanjelly + franco.Kernel
That's what I prefer anyway
This is incredibly subjective. Just make a backup and give them all a try until you find one you like. When it comes to ROMs, its a case of to each his own.
For what it's worth, I'm using AOKP with Franco's latest kernel. I've tried all the others, but I find myself going back to it.
Yea I know I just figured one might be better or worse for battery or be a little further along on features than some others.
One thing that irritates me is stock keyboard. Does any room also come with better keyboard?

Try the latest AOKP pub, you won't be disappointed

As others have stated, AOKP is great. And yes, it gives you, in my opinion, a more useful keyboard (for example, the top row of letters allows for long-press for numbers). Battery life seems pretty even compared to stock. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

You can easily download a zillion better keyboards from the play store. Don't need a custom rom for that. My favorite is thumb keyboard.
As for roms there are many good ones. I am trying out liquid smooth right now and its good. I also like aokp. Using the ktmanta kernel.

Scott just posted CleanRom 1.0. Runs great.
Paranoid is a great rom with Franco R4.
I'd also like some speed to the ROM. What do you guys use for good battery life? I'm currently using Vanir 4.2.2
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I'm stock, rooted on 4.3. Everything works just dandy. Battery life is just fine. Best ROM is stock. Unless you're running a stock ROM with bad hudu and bad juju, i don't see where you'll have any problems with stock ROM.
Ofcourse there's usually the myriad of options in the development thread you can test out yourself or read through. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply, but I like ROMs like Vanir with sh1t tons of customization options i.e. being able to change what angles your tablet rotates to, OC'ing options, etc. All in the settings app.

Got to recommend carbon. Even overclocked kernel and still lasts forever, plus has aokp-like ROM options.

There is no "best ROM". A big part, especially for battery, is dependent on what apps you use. Your only solution is to try them.
That, and given the open swearing, i am just closing this here. Lets not repeat this...
Last time I ever flashed a ROM or participated in this was about 3 years ago. I'm pretty fresh to how this works and all but i still remember the gist of it. I just got my nexus 4 and am hoping to make it better

ROM will be pretty much irrelevant. The vast majority are AOSP based, with the differences being visual tweaks and added features, which add little, if any, drain on the battery. Some features, like pocket mode, might drain a bit more, but it's up to you to use them. All will run smooth as butter, stock. It's things like live wallpapers, excessive widgets, and apps running in the background that'll cause lag and stutters.
Custom kernels can help with battery life, but it's a small percentage, and it depends more on how you use the phone. A wakelock detector app plus Greenify can keep your phone from constantly waking and syncing, and that helps battery life a lot. And of course, screen brightness is the biggest battery killer of all.

Well if you want a really smooth and battery friendly rom, I'd recommend the L preview.. If you want a Kk rom I'd recommend liquidsmooth as it's feature packed and optimized really well. I personally have used both and right now use LS with Unleashed kernel.. It's a great combo. But in the end you gotta try out doff things to see what you like

So let's say I install L and matrix kernal. When the official update comes out, will I lose root when I update?

Well I doubt you would be able to even install an ota update of the official L.. You'd have to probably flash a new rom based on it or flash the factory image once it's out.. I'm sure rooted base roms of L would come out within a week of the release so you could flash that.. But if you want the ota, then you can go back to factory image 4.4.4 after release of L and get the ota after.. But no root.
