I'm ready to spike this thing into the pavement and redeem my squaretrade warranty.
I was tinkering with the recently released 3.41 bootloader and I was getting the bootloop issues, though I could alwasy fastboot back to 3.34 and be fine.
So just now I was following the advice of another user:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32771308&postcount=133
After which I tried flashing the 3.41 bootloader and would get a FAILURE in the fastboot dialog. So I tried erasing/flashing recovery (TWPR 2.3) and bootloader (3.34) and each time got another FAILURE dialog on each erase and flash.
Now when attempting to boot, the screen is *completely* unresponsive. Even went as far as cracking it open and re-plugging in the battery. Nothing.
When plugging in a USB cable though on Windows 7, you get the familiar USB connection alert sounds. Although when plugging in USB devices, you should get the low-to-high sound (do-di), and unplugging you should get the high to low (di-do).
Well, you get the di-do sound when unplugging (keep in mind, screen is off), but when plugging IN, you get 3 low tones (do-do-do)... screen still off.
All the time the screen being completely blank. Did I actually kill this thing? Are there any steps to take to bring it back to stock, or at leats get the screen running. I am afraid at some point recovery or bootloader was erased and somehow not re-flashed... though I have done so numerous times in the past.
Any similar experiences or suggestions?
Did you adb erase bootloader? If so then you are truley bricked until the nvflash is available for this device. I believe that is what its called.

Can't boot tablet, whether it be bootloader, recovery, or android. No matter what combination of power/volume I try, the screen remains blank. The only "responsiveness" I get is when plugging/unplugging USB cables in my pc, but even then I get the odd do-do-do as though the device drivers were unable to property install.

Did you ever run that command though? I see you said you tried to delete recovery and bootloader.
Everything leading up to this point was run in the bootloader via fastboot (fastboot erase recovery / fastboot erase bootloader / fastboot flash bootloader xxx.img / fastboot flash recovery xxx.img). I followed the steps I linked in the OP. Everything was running fine prior to booting to the bootloader to tinker with 3.41.
Now that I read what I've done, I am guessing I fried the bootloader. :\

Adb erase bootloader is where you went wrong. Sorry that sucks.
Anyway to get this thing running again short of dropping and replacing?

Not at this point in time.
Oof.. Of all things to accidentally erase.. The bootloader.. I'm sorry man, that's a hard lesson to learn. The erase option for me has giant blinking neon light on it that says "STAY AWAY".. In over two years of owning Android devices I've never once actually used that command option and have absolutely no plans to ever use it.
Hahaha, hard lesson to learn, I agree. This sucks, looks like my beloved Nexus 7 may be meeting with an untimely demise.

Hey,
Did Squaretrade fix your device? I just want to know if there warranty is still valid if you unlock or brick your tablet

Hey guys, I know this is the 1000th time you've seen this thread. However, I might be a little different.
I've read all the red blinking threads before posting this one.
ROM: CM10 Stable Snapshot
Kernel: Franco r53
Okay, yesterday as I was downloading and I opened a game, my phone screen just turned off completely. I'm assuming it was due to overheating as the phone was getting pretty hot.
So I assumed it died, no big deal. I tried to boot up using power button, no luck.
Then I panicked and started searching XDA for all these red blinking LED of doom threads.
I managed to get the phone to boot up to the Google screen by having it on a wall charger + hold the power button for 10 seconds. But then it just shuts down. I managed to make it stick with bootloader, but only on the wall charger, which isn't much help. On a USB connection with my computer, I'm not able to even open boot loader as it would just open and turn off the phone within a few seconds.
Threw it on the charger over night, no luck.
This morning, nothing has changed.
So what's weird about my situation is, I can get it into fast boot, but only when it's on a wall charger, nothing else. And getting it to Google logo for a few seconds.
Edit: I can't RMA, because when it boots to Google logo, it says bootloader is unlocked (the little icon). And I also bought the phone off Swappa, so it's not attached to my account (is it even possible to claim warranty?)
Interesting this sounds like a hardware problem all right. Simply because you said it works on the mains charger which has an output of 1.2a were as the USB to PC chargers phone at rate of 400ma. I would try getting a replacement if you can. Also are you able to boot into recovery through boot loader if so you could try wiping everything or restoring from back up.
Okay, something weird. I tried a different method of getting into fastboot, and it worked (connected to PC).
Hold volume - (DOWN) by itself WHILE plugging in the USB cable. And now I'm in fastboot. Now I'm just trying to find a way to erase cache via toolkit x)
Edit: Weird, toolkit picks up the ADB device but manual adb doesn't using adb devices command.
I've read another user who fixed this by removing the back, then disconnecting and reconnecting the battery connector. Sorry I can't find the post but I'm sure it was in one of the I bricked my phone threads.
Yeah, I saw that, too. But I don't have the equipments for it, unfortunately
ADB won't recognize my nexus 4.
Toolkit will (so I know that toolkit is installed properly). I tried opening a command prompt through toolkit and I couldn't run anything.
Any suggestions?

Adb won't work from bootloader, you should have fastboot access though
I'm in fastboot now.
I cannot get into recovery =[ When I select recovery, it would just turn off the phone and the blinking lights begins again.
Try charging overnight with other charger, not stock

Just tried with a nonstock charger. It blinked red. Then the battery charging screen popped up (first time ever). And now it's dead blinking red again.
Hopefully I'll see results overnight.

That's a good sign! Sounds like it was in some serious deep hibernation! The fact that the battery icon popped up shows u didn't brick it or anything, its just really really dead! However when I had my problem, I had just a red light on all the time, it never blinked
Sent from my Google Nexus 4
Mine is constantly blinking. :'(
And it's probably not dead because I did manage to get it into fastboot. And I got adb to pick up using fast boot.
Every after reflashing recovery, I can't get into anything other than fastboot. When I try to select "Recovery" from the fastboot menu, it just turns off and continues to blink ;[
if you can get it into fastboot while plugged in your pc, scroll down in fastboot to the "power off" option. leave it there to charge up for a bit. you can check if its charging by using adb
Code:
adb shell cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity
hopefully it comes back to life after you charge it a bit. After it charges I would flash stock images just to be safe.

Okay, trying that now. It's been on the charger all night.
How does one ADB with the phone "powered off"?
So if the phone died because of heat, didn't it throttle properly? How is this possible?
Why don't you reflash stock images through fast boot? I don't understand why the need to be in recovery?

I thought I had to factory reset it first inorder to flash factory image? (Coming from CM and Franco) At least that's how I always done it or it'd get stuck in a boot loop on my old phone.
But it is my last resort as well, because I have some precious data on this phone x)
Oh and Google pulled factory images, do you knows know where I can get a copy of one?

I've not flashed stock before for this phone. And I'm afraid it might be different.
So question noob question.... Do I flash the booterloader and radios too? I've read that it's pretty dangerous to flash those.
I'm following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Any instructions I should do differently?
EDIT: I just flashed stock, nothing happened. Still could only get to fastboot. I am now losing hope.

IF ur going to rma it don't forget to lock the bootloader
Hi all,
First time posting on here (but I read the forums often - for guides etc).
Bought the Nexus 4 and I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device. Kept to the stock Android (JB 4.2) however I locked the bootloader again.
The boot loop occurred after a restart after I did the following things:
1. Used Battery Calibration to calibrate the battery. Left the battery to drain and then charge to 100%.
2. Used VM Heap to change the amount and restarted the phone. Boot loop ocurred.
I have tried many things after reading this forums and other forums but there seems to be no answer to this issue.
Things I've tried are:
1. Booted into recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset many times - still has boot loop
2. Used Nexus Root Toolkit and tried the various functions on there. Fastboot doesn't detect the device (even though its in fastboot mode) in order for me to unlock the bootloader again and flash it with the stock ROM. Windows (8) does detect it but can't load drivers for it. Been through all the instructions on the Nexus Root Toolkit - reinstall drivers, cleared the device from device manager, cleared it from usb list etc. Fastboot just won't detect it to allow me to unlock!!
3. Let the battery drained and tried factory resetting but doesn't work (not tried fully charging it and then resetting though)
4. Been trying various other things which I read on the forum(s) but nothing seems to work!:crying:
Literally spent the whole day trying so many different things. Seems like I discovered a whole new unique problem to causing boot loop on the Nexus 4. I don't want to have to send this back to Google for a replacement if they give me one - hopefully with the locked bootloader and the data cleared, they won't know I've rooted, not to mention its micro-sim and my backup feature phone doesn't take micro-sim :crying:
Has any one had this issue before and fixed it!? Would really appreciate the help/guidance!
My first time rooting a phone, didn't do it before on other phones because thought knowing my luck I'd brick it beyond repair! Luck would have it, that exactly what has happened.
Appreciate the replies and help on this!

For the toolkit to see the device, you need to put your device to fastboot mode by pressing vol (-) and then the power button (the phone should be in powered off mode to do this).

I had a boot loop issue. It was stuck on Google logo - the white logo.
I couldn't go into recovery either.
My fix was to flash the stock recovery.IMG
I too couldn't detect the device however I kept trying.
If you face a problem getting into fast boot mode try pressing vol up + vil down + power. Didn't work for me but worked for some.
Let me know how it goes I'm glad to help out if I can
Having USB Debugging ticked WHILE IN ANDROID has absolutely no effect on whether or not your computer can see the device WHILE IN RECOVERY OR FASTBOOT.

Didn't fix it in the end...no matter what I tried. I got a replacement from Google (thankfully they didn't charge me for the new one!).
BTW the batch of Nexus 4 released in end of Jan/early Feb has a much better battery life than the one I got from the batch released in early Dec. Won't be rooting the new Nexus 4 in case sh*t happens again but no doubt will get tempted again somewhere down the line!

How I got there

Hi, cnewsgrp...
It doesn't sound good, I'm afraid...
If the BOOTLOADER is screwed, then the tablet is.
And no rootkit will be able to fix it... it's hardbricked.
-----------
But a couple of questions...
What do you see when when you put the tablet on charge?
Do you see a LARGE WHITE BATTERY icon, flashing, indicating charging.
As I understand it, the BOOTLOADER plays a role in charging when the tablet is shutdown.
If you don't see this, then it's probably not a good sign.
-----------
Have you tried these various button combination presses... posted here by bftb0...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133986
There is the possibility you could just be stuck in APX mode....
-----------
As of now, there is no known means of nvFlashing/APX flashing a replacement bootloader, should the current one get corrupted or erased.
And without a BOOTLOADER... there is no FASTBOOT... and no means of flashing Custom Recoveries, Custom Roms, Custom Kernels... or even a return to STOCK.
The Bootloader is the Achilles Heel of the Nexus 7.... and it is vulnerable every time you flash a new one.

Have you found a fix yet? I know you said it was in APX mode but have you tried this solution for devices that seemed dead and wouldn't charge?
To charge a dead Nexus 7:
1. Plug-in your dead N7 to a wall charger. (Jump immediately to step 2.)
2. Immediately after plugging it in, press Volume Down and Power at the same time.
*This should get you into the bootloader menu. You may have to try this with different chargers or test out the timing in order to get it to work.
3. Once in the bootloader menu, use Volume Down until you see “Power Off Device.”
4. Choose that option with the Power button.
5. Once your device is off, unplug the charger and then plug it back into the device.
6. You should now see the battery meter (pictured above) with your device returning to life.
I copied this from an old article but can't remember where.

Recently I have had a major issue with my nexus 7. About 2 weeks ago, it died (ran out of battery) while I was using it. When I attempted to turn it on after charging it, I would get the screen that says google, with unlocked lock icon. The tablet would be frozen at this screen. I left it running until it died again. I was running the latest stable release of cyanogenmod 10 with clockworkmod recovery with no problems before when this happened.
By now I had realized that the nexus may have been bricked. I did some googling and found that this is an issue other users have been having when their battery died on android 4.2.2. I attempted to restore the nexus. At this time I was able to access bootloader on the device by holding down all of the buttons at the same time. I think I selected the recovery option. However, I decided not to restore the nexus, and wait until a time where I would be able to turn all of my attention to the problem, and powered the device off, it may have been in recovery mode at that time but I do not remember.
But now, I can't access the bootloader! When I reboot the device by holding down power, I see the google screen for about 4 seconds, then I get a black screen (I can tell the device is still on because the screen is an illuminated black screen). Black screen remains there indefinitely. Any button combo (voldown+power, volup+power, all 3, volup+voldown (this one doesn't do anything), hard reset combo, etc) doesn't do anything except reboot the device and give me the same behavior.
I connected it to my pc (running windows 8) and used the nexus root toolkit by wugfresh to install some drivers. I could install the first driver the toolkit told me to but not the second because the device wouldn't reboot into bootloader. In device manager I see "Galaxy Nexus ADB Driver", hardware ids are USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001&REV_9999 and USB\Vid_18D1&PID_D001, so that tells me custom recovery. Running "adb devices" tells me the device is in recovery mode, but I just see a black screen. Doing adb reboot bootloader or fastboot reboot bootloader hangs and gives waiting for device respectively. Similarly wug's toolkit hangs when trying to reboot the device into bootloader.
I've opened up the back and done a literal battery pull many times. Battery connector is in place after this. I also accidentally broke off one of those tiny copper tabs next to the battery, but that's not relevant to this problem and I believe is minor, broke that after I got this problem. After I do battery pull and plug back in, I either:
a) get a battery lightning icon in the center of the screen, which begins to fill up after a few moments. Rebooting device gets me back into google then black screen mentioned above
b) get a screen with static/snow on it. There is also a hissing/humming noise coming from the back of it. Rebooting gets me to google screen again. This screen also can appear rarely with no discernable pattern to when it appears.
c) same google screen followed by illuminated black screen.
I've left the device charged in, unplugged it, let battery die, and tried many combos of buttons, but can't get anything except the three screens stated above.
I know the saying "Nexus devices are almost impossible to brick" but if I can't access the bootloader and just get black screen then I don't know if I can fix this.
I've posted a thread similar to this one before, so if your username is bftb0 then you've seen this problem already. I'm trying to repost with more information to see if any other ideas are there. Other thread is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39522179#post39522179.
So these are my theories to what the problem is:
-corrupted bootloader
-bug/corrupted clockworkmod recovery
-bad battery/power/overheating
-corrupted memory
So how can I solve this?
I know there is NVFlash but there isn't a version for nexus 7. Almost all of the things I've found involve using bootloader. Any suggestions for things I haven't tried yet?
I have obtained an RMA from Asus but I don't want to send the device in because the bootloader is unlocked, so they would probably not cover this under warranty.
Does anybody know of a way to erase evidence of having a bootloader? Or a way to convince Asus to fix the device even with bootloader unlock? What's the price of the repair if not covered under warranty? I'm a poorish student with not much money, so I hope it's not that much and that's why I'm reluctant to pay for repairs.
Also I haven't done anything stupid like fastboot erase bootloader, in fact I hadn't connected the device to pc in a week.
I think this might be a bug with android 4.2. I love android and nexus, but if this is google's fault then I might be done with Android.
Thanks so much.
if it's still bricked i would be interested in buying it for the screen (even screen only, and you keep everything else) cause mine broke today!

Perhaps. I'll try to see if I can RMA it under warranty, probably wouldn't be covered though. I'll consider it.
Anyone else, have ideas for how to fix?
Had that problem before:
I had fixed it by opening the nexus 7 and unplugging the battery,
then I hooked it up to the charger(its screen turned on to a black one with the hissing speaker) and used the power button hard reset it,
The nexus 7 reset and gave me a really glitchy/teary black screen.
Then I unplugged it and replugged the battery and put the whole thing back together (mines tape-fixed BTW) and turned it on

Then I unplugged it and replugged the battery and put the whole thing back together (mines tape-fixed BTW) and turned it on

Still no luck... It just gave me the black screen as before. Thanks though
Hi, can you access bootloader mode???
If you not your Nexus has its /boot partition broken or formatted. That is a "Super brick" is irreversible.
Good luck!

/boot is kernel. It has nothing to do with his problem. He can't access bootloader.
Flowed from my HTC branded muffin...
No chance to get a free repair out of Asus right? Know of any way to get them/trick them to repair it for free?
If no, what's the price they'll charge?
Hi stereo8.
/boot is not just the kernel, is the boot loader too, and if he can't boot on boot loader mode we have the problem.
Regards.

Excuse me, but stereo8 is right. You should probably read a bit more about the internal structure / partitions of the Nexus7.

Update:
I think my device may just be stuck in recovery. I think I may have accidentally hit the recover button when I was able to access the bootloader. I was running clockworkmod recovery 10. Perhaps it has been corrupted.
How do I get out of the recovery using adb?
Why do you have 2 threads open for this ?

I've already posted that I've tried that. The device just powers off and doesn't power on again. Turning it on with any combination of buttons puts me back in the google screen then black screen.

Ok, while the device is registered as "recovery" open a cmd and cd to your adb set up.
Try using the commands
Adb shell
#wipe data
This should wipe all user data from the tablet, maybe even the sdcard/internal memory as well. I am looking to see if you can use and to flash a bootloader for you, but it would carry heavy risks.

Good evening XDA,
I've got a Nexus 6p (obviously), and can't get it to boot. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact history as to how it's in this state.
I've tried everything I can think of and read every guide/steps/forums I can find that relates to my situation.
I can get to the bootloader and issue Fastboot commands. I've got adb/fastoot/drivers installed via the sdk/platform tools, and drivers are up to date as far as I can tell.
-I'm using the OEM cable attached to my computer (Surface Pro3, Windows 10)
-I can unlock/re-lock the bootloader as I wish.
-I've tried WugFresh toolkit, flash factory + unroot. All completes, but phones continues to loop even after leaving it for an hour+.
-I've tried Heisenbergs guide for manually flashing stock google images via fastboot to no avail. Tried several different google images. Everything completes, but it still just loops.
-I can get all fastboot commands to complete with no errors, but the phone just simply bootloops at the google logo, or if I leave bootloader unlocked it loops with the orange triangle & google logo. I have left it looping for at least an hour+, but it doesn't finish:crying:
-Stock recovery or a fastboot flashed trwp recovery simply won't boot, it just goes to the google logo and loops, I don't get the dead android w/triangle. "Recovery" in the bootloader selections is RED, if that means anything. Tried fastboot commands to boot recovery, but just sends it to the google logo and loops.
-Adb commands don't work, only fastboot commands.
-During flashing a google stock image with fastboot, the only thing that stands out is "max download of ####### reached", or something similar, but it still completes.....?
Seems to me that I've got a true brick (first ), and just need to send it in for repair.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
Well, personally I believe it is a brick. Because I had something similar and it was fixed by a simple complete wipe of the phone - did you try that, and follow the order for fastboot flashing?
As for replacement. I have a dent in the frame that effected the volume button until I pushed it back in. I contacted google support and they told me since it was physical damage. That I would have to contact Huawei for repairs, and they promptly gave me their number. As for your case it could be a board failure and could go under warranty through google. Good luck! Off to help more people.
PS: Use a twp version higher than 2.x.x, that was what my issue was.

Thanks for the reply. I thought (hoped) it might be a button issue too, but there is no damage to the phone, and buttons work as they should in the bootloader. Gave them a slight tap, but same results.
As for the "complete wipe", I can only erase/format via fastboot (or WugFresh ToolKit) since I can't get to recovery, and that hasn't given me any different results.

Does all the data in the bootloader look fine? The storage size etc?

As far as I can tell, everything looks normal. Is there anything you know of that would raise suspicion? I'll post exactly what it says when I get back to it.

Usually with board failure - that I saw in other threads - there are missing fields. My phone had a little glitchyness after I accidentally flashed the userdata.img - which caused my 128gb to become 32gb, which I found amusing - Other than that, I don't know. I'm sure others would reply.
I powered the phone off via the bootloader menu. Came back to the phone and powered it on, and it started the bootloop. I only held down the volume down button (during loop), and it booted to the bootloader. Is this normal? I realize I'm probably grasping at anything, but I've got some time to kill and just curious if it loops and only the volume down button is held should it go to the bootloader?

TWRP 3.0.2-1 may have been used on this device and a restore may have been attempted, causing the EFS partition to be damaged. There a thread in this qna section by the tittle of Lets get this......I don't remember the rest, but it has a post concerning what to do to fix the bootloop.

Thanks for the link, and I've been reading the "Let's figure out this brick together" thread. The link you posted requires ADB commands to work to fix the EFS partition, but I can only run fastboot commands. ADB nor Recovery work on my device. Still reading...
Woohoo! Huawei replaced the phone, no questions asked. I think the saving grace was being able to flash stock images, and relock the bootloader. May be helpful to anyone else in this situation that can only run fastboot commands, and no recovery.
