Anyone tried doing it? Do you get quite a bit of lag? I am connecting over my local Wifi and it is laggy.
(Turning off the screen increases lag a lot, but I guess that is because the CPU is slowed down, so that is OK.)
Well, I'm struggling to connect to mine
I know it's not my network because I can connect to my Iconia (on ICS), and my Iphone via wifi.
What rom are you using and how are you starting the ssh server on your Nexus?
As soon as I get it going I'll let you know about lag.
(My Iconia (on wifi) is very usuable - with only minor lag during login, but nowhere near as fast as my wired logins))

OK, I guess it is normal then, for me, it is usable, but slower than over ethernet. Pings are around 90ms, so that's just the way it is then.
I tried the DropBear SSH Server, SSHDroid just hung at initialisation. I also used a chrooted Ubuntu install with its own server, both were comparable in speed. Also I am using stock ROM.

Is anybody else getting very poor tethering support from their galaxy S?
I'm on rogers using the bell GT-i9000m and it's just terrible. If i don't use a third party program like pdanet my SC2 games will time out after 20 minutes and the internet will be very slow, yet internet on my phone will be very fast (3/3.5g).
Before anybody asks why I am gaming on a tethered phone instead of having a land line it's because my barracks are old and aren't wired for cable/dsl.
So...is there any alternative like "Wired tether for root useres" for a galaxy S? It didn't work the last time i tried to launch it.
PS. I'm using the "PC Internet" button when you plug in usb, as Kies doesn't want to launch for me without internet.
You tried pdanet or easytether? both allow usb tethering and don't need root access.
update: guess I did not read your post properly. I had read that the wifi tether isn't as fast as the cell connection.
What is wrong with sticking with pdanet anyway?
Using the original tethering function present in the International Galaxy S phone and it works perfectily.
Don't you have that in the US models ?

Hi
I've always had this WiFi problem that after about 5 minutes of usage the internet connection disappears on my phone but the WiFi logo stays.
This forces me to disable and reenable WiFi on my phone.
Later I discovered that this only happens with WPA secured access points.
WEP and non secured access points work fine.
I tested my phone with 3 routers. Same results for all. On my first 2 routers it wasn't a problem because I just set up WEP security.
With my new router I cannot do this because it has wireless N which doesn't support WEP...
Also this happens will all ROMs, even the stock ROM.
After Google'ing this issue I found out that I am not the only one having this issue...
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this?
No one knows what the issue is?
Wifi works fine here using WPA2 and AES, my router is an ASUS RT-N16 running Tomato USB firmware.
Alright, so I decided to run logcat to capture the moment when the connection drops.
Here's the image of the log window:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
How I tested this:
1) Ran adb logcat in Windows.
2) Enabled WiFi connection.
3) Opened up YouTube, selected a 10 minute long video.
4) After about 4 minutes, the video froze, because it ran out of buffer.

use wifi fix from the market.almost had same problem in every custom rom.noproblem on stock.
Maybe you should try the WiFi libs from the FreeXperiaProject? Or a different ROM.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
Hey everybody, today i did something that seriously proved how powerfull the Galaxy S2 is.
I installed Ubuntu Touch, java for ARM.... And made a minecraft server run!
Here's a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvxaIU_4kQA
The server is running ON the device, not with some sort of VNC connection, it is running ON the device.
Suprisingly enough, the server runs almost lag-free!
I also got quite a few plugins running, here's a screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The server takes a long time to start, more than a minute, but after it started it is rock solid. I haven't managed to get it crash.
world rendering doesn't go quite as fast as it does on PC, and will make the server lag. Just don't go and fly out of the generated area and there is no problem, after a few seconds the world does generate but causes lag for 10 to 20 seconds.
I haven't tried yet with anybody else joining because the port forward is ****ed up in my router and i can't get anybody else to join
Isn't this quite awesome?
EDIT: I fixed the port forward, other people can now join the server
How? Any tutorial? I want to run this on my Lg G3 with 3GB ram and 2.5 ghz processor. I want to run a server just for max 5 people
Did this ever happen?
How?

I too, have an LG G3 and would love to run Minecraft Server on it for a friend and I. But I don't know how. Did you ever figure it out? or is this guy still active to show us how?
Can anyone with an Asus router, such as the RT-N56U, tell me if the 6P will usb tether to the router?
I do this with my Note II. Gives my whole house internet using the Asus router instead of the phone hotspot, and also get the benefit of ethernet connections and a better wifi signal than the phone can provide. And only having one wifi network to deal with makes things so much better. My Note 4 just sits in a drawer because of this, since it can't be rooted. Which is a shame because it has a better radio and can get sometimes 80mbps+, when the Note 2 only gets around 50mbps.
Well in case anyone else has this question, I went ahead and bought the 6P. Can confirm it worked straight out of the box, didn't have to even change any settings on my Asus router. Just plugged it into the router USB port, and selected USB tether on the 6P.
And the speed is incredible at my house:

Just to be clear, when I said I didn't need to change any settings on my router, meant because I had already set it up with a previous phone. If you've never set up the router to use a USB modem, you'll need to configure it. Very simple, at least on vzw, but not just plug and play.
