What am I doing wrong in email settings?? - Galaxy Note II General

I get all notifications in the pull down bar for gmail, text etc. And it plays the sound I chose. BUT for my work email, I use the email app... and nothing. I get new emails, but no notification sound or in the pull down bar. This is my 3rd Samsung Galaxy. I'm familiar with the settings, and have double checked that I have checked off to be notified in the pull down bar. But nothing. No sound. No notification. I just know I have an email because the number changes on the icon. j
Any suggestions please??

have you check the sound setting on the email app it self

Goto Settings->Blocking Mode and disable it.
This should solve your problem.

Blocking mode is disabled.. not only don't I get any Sound, but absolutely nothing in the notification pulldown bar. the only thing I get, is a number over the email icon.

Anyone else having this issue? I dont know if this is hardware or software?

I'm using exchange server and all is fine. My settings are found in or together with my exchage account.
Sorry for the Dutch.

My settings are slightly different. But for the most part, look the same. I have the FRANCE version ALIH .. I wonder if if is a software glitch?

I think the pull down bar does not work for the email client. It does not work for me too.

No, the pulldown definitely works for email client. I checked on 2 different Samsung devices and it always has for me. What software version are you running?

I guess I will have to wait for an update.

Hey this has happened to me a couple of times and I got it working by turning off sync in Settings/Applications manager and then turning on again and then do this turn on then off in the stock email settings for syncing.

I turned it off in the actual app. But couldn't see it anywhere else in settings.

Message Notification screenshots [Why are these appearing?]

So I've uninstalled Handcent, uninstalled ChompSMS, just using the default messaging application. I receive a new sms message, I get double notifications, one smiley face one and a normal sms looking envelope one. I check my messages, review my newly received sms but the envelope icon stays in my tray, sometimes it even says you have 0 new message(s). Anyone have a clue what's going on here? Screenshots!
Using latest CM5 beta5 w/ google apps.

very easy.
from the icon i see that you use Handcent SMS
at the same time however, you didn't disable the notification of the in-build Messenger app - so the phone gives you double notification 1. from Handcent, 2. from the in-build app
if the inbuild messenger app gives you a notification, but Handcent SMS doesn't it means that in Handcent you have probably blacklisted a sender, so Handcent doesn't give you a notification, but the in-build app doesn't have a black list, so it still gives you a notification (= disable the in-build app's notification and no problems thereafter).
p.s. for some reason Handcent's recent release regularly moves people "automagically" into the blacklist (it doesn't seem to like my wife very much.....), therefore I currently have the option "Show Blacklist" enabled... a bit annoying
I don't have handcent installed anymore, it's uninstalled. Thanks for your fast reply. I'm having this problem while only using the default messaging app. No case of double notifications here, when I tap the envelope notifications it doesn't really clear, unless I manually clear all notifications.
Hmm, Have you tried to reinstall handcent and then turn off notifications within handcent, then uninstall? Looks like the options are carrying over.
Do you have beautiful widgets pack 2? the sms in that will automatically notify you even if you never set it up. Made me incredibly mad trying to figure out where the second notification was coming from. finally hooked it up and logcatted it while I sent myself a message. Figured out what it was from that.

It pops up whenever I get an SMS, but I have notifications disabled in Messages. Where can it be coming from? I use Handcent primarily, so I keep getting two notifications. I'm on Fresh 2.0d, by the way.
Edit: They also seem to only appear after I wake the phone up from sleep. So I will receive an SMS notification from Handcent, then when I go to check it I get this one.
Disable notifications either for the stock messaging app or for Handcent, I would advise disabling them for the stock messaging app if you use Handcent to send them. Go into stock messaging app>Press Menu Button>Settings>uncheck Notifications.

It just goes to my Handcent messages, but it doesn't go away.
Edit: It isn't from the default messaging app. I enabled notifications from it, and now I have a different notification in addition to the mystery notification as you can see here:
Do you have PopSMS installed? Try disabling and enabling notifications in Handsent? What does it say the notification is for, identical to the other one for the text you just got or something completely different?

I do not have PopSMS. I am trying disabling Handcent notifications now. The notification only says "A new message has been received" while Handcent and the default app say "Person's Name - Message."

Remove User Account Picture

Hi all,
Under the Quick Settings pull down menu, the first button is the User Account. It shows the user's name and profile picture(if there is one). I've associated a picture with the user profile; but a while later, even after I removed/deleted the picture, the picture still shows up under the Quick Settings pull-down. My question is, is it possible to have the icon revert back to the default android user icon(below)?

Yes I have. In the contacts app, my profile doesn't have a picture anymore. However, the picture still shows up under the Quick Setting menu.
so the picture doesn't show up under Quick Setting menu if you delete yours from the profile?

Not sure then. Mine is from Google + profile pic so if I delete it then it removes the picture in the quick toggles.
You may just need to wipe and start clean.

Help with 'Do Not Disturb' Mode

Okay. Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe my phone's just not honoring my settings. But my DND mode isn't working. I have it set on a schedule to kick in everyday around 10pm and disable at 7am. I have custom exceptions for favorite contacts, alarms on, repeat callers on, but events/reminders off. I don't have any apps set for priority notifications. But I still get sound notifications for just about everything. On top of that, I still get reminders from the apps I set it on for (messaging apps, mainly SMS). Am I doing something wrong?
Mine force closes every time I attempt to go into the settings. The only way I can get it to work is by manually turning it on and off via the quick settings bar. It does work because I received e-mails, texts etc. while it was turned on and it never made a peep. I googled it, and other people are having the issue also.

Maybe it's your font settings? No problems with mine and no problems having it block stuff when activated. I use it daily when sleeping because I work nights.

Nope went back to default theme and font still does it even after a reboot
I had the same problem and it miraculously started working again
I had the same problem. Started playing around with notification settings for individual apps tonight. I believe I have the settings right to avoid getting notifications when I don't want them. Here's a screen shot of one of the apps. You have to go into each app you DON'T want notifications for and set them as they are in the screen shot. Hope this helps.

UPDATE from previous post - it would appear that my advise above is garbage. I continued to get notifications even after I made changes to individual application notification settings. I'm stumped at this point. Samsung needs to address this.

And while they are at it, add the damn LED to the do not disturb mode!!! I don't want to have a bright green LED shining in my face overnight, much less a blinking one.

Gmail POP-UP preview and Floatify

I use Gmail as my default mail client, and I have noticed that I cannot get the preview pop-up for incoming new messages like I do for SMS. Apparently the only app that does it for me is Floatify, but I was wondering if there is something better available in the market?
Am I the only one who really missed that feature on Gmail?

Yup, that's what I was talking about. Only way to get them is through a 3rd party app like Floatify. I'm wondering if it's because of Nougat?
Go to optimise battery usage & turn off the gmail app there & check.
Turn of edge lighting. You will get the popup then.
Its the new edge lighting pop-ups that replace the regular heads-up notification
Guys i tried both things but Gmail unfortunately doesn't show any popup when a new message arrives. Try!
Found it. SOLVED!!!!
System settings > Notifications > Advenced (top right corner) > find Gmail > press on Mail > importance: choose urgent. DO THE SAME FOR MISCELLANEOUS AND ATTACHMENTS. BOOM DONE. FINALLY!
