For new users and anyone who may benefit from knowing a bit more about their SIII:
Samsung released a User Digest onto the Playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDIxMiwia3IuY28uc2Ftc3VuZy5nYWxheHlzMyJd
Free and a bit useful...

I've just installed this now, I'm having a play to see what it's about!
UPDATE: It's alright, nothing really new in there for me except the in-call EQ. Uninstalled again.

Been having this for two months. It comes handy and useful over times.

This has been posted here before; it's nothing new.

... quite unuseful ...

well don't know why I install this long time ago
open it, nothing
even connected with wifi and open also nothing
take forever loading

market is slow

is it just me or is the market running very slow in froyo?
This message was deleted by its author
any ideas why?
Check your logs, it's the usual socket timeout issues, like when you switch for a new Android phone... it should disappear very soon (I had it for an hour earlier)
it was working for me, but now things are downloading and not installing... they just sit there at 100%...
I can't say I notice Market being slow but this is really pissing me off... I bought bTunes and a couple other apps and Market has them marked as Buy as if I don't own them.
WTF.
I'm getting that too, bTunes says Buy, but a lot of other protected apps just don't show up! Is this happening for everyone?

Good call... MLB At Bat is MIA. Hopefully this is a quick fix for the Market crew. I think I should shoot them an email to make them aware.
Protected apps like m bank´s are disent from this version of the Marquet...
That´s my only problem with this awesome 2.2 update.
At a guess most of them are probably to do with the new apps2SD, no doubt when devs start updating them with the new move to SD tags we still start seeing them again
Going to give it a few days before I complain about not having some paid apps (bTunes) though, hopefully thats an easy fix!
really slow
I also see the market is really really slow, I wonder if 2.2 is going somewhere else for data and that source was not ready for everyone to jump on the unconventional means of getting 2.2 up; also, some apps I had are not available and do not come up in searching the market.
Edit: Almost uncanny, but after pressing submit post, both problems disappeared and the market is now the fastest I have ever experienced. Installing and browsing at super speed. No reboot, or anything and my market is normal. Hope it works itself for others so fast
same here some apps arnt there anymore. it happened when the desire came out, protected apps wouldnt show. am sure they had to do an update on the phone to get it working.
i had same problem when start it for the 1st time after flashing yesterday, problem went away after a couple of reboot, now everything is incredibly fast.
Slow!? Lol you must be kidding me.... i have been using Cyanogenmod 5.0.6 for quite awhile and i had to wait, hang on... 5 minutes everytime downloading 1 app.
Here on Froyo, its just instant!
Froyo FTW.
I'ts a common issue it will fix himself (don't ask me how). I had this problem to and one day it fixed itself. This was also with 2.1.
This problems starts when you make a fresh start. There was a silent update for the market and if you have this update market is working fast enough else you have to be patient and wait till you get the update (again).
If you didn't make a fresh start and updated you won't be seeing this slowness of the market.

[Q] Market

Has anyone else been having trouble with market today? I went to bed last night and the market was working perfectly. When I woke up today though, and its still going on, I will try to download a program and it will start the download for a second and then it just stops like I never even told it to try. I have tried on both the Verizon network and using Wifi.
Am I the only one with this problem? And if not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this problem?
Thanks in advance!
my market won't even start. it has a server error it says
Mine does everything normal except downloading. Rom manager wont download clockwork recovery either. All internet works fine tho...
I've been having the download problem too, but then again, I've always had serious problems downloading from the Market. It used to be that downloads would just hang on "Starting" without ever actually downloading. This start-and-disappear thing, however, is new to me.
The end result is the same though -- it's probably about 50/50 for me whether something will actually download and install or just hang or disappear. Honestly, the Market's dysfunctionality (yeah, I made up a word) is the single most annoying thing about Android to me, and the one thing that's legitimately made me consider switching to another OS and phone. It's unbelievably frustrating when you just can't download apps sometimes, no matter how many times you try. And no, I've never found a fix.
Well, I unrooted my phone and now everything works fine. I used Super One Click Root to do it and maybe that just doesnt work for this phone....
Edit, I used a different root method and now I have root and my market is working perfectly. Feel free to try this method if you want and see if it helps you out.
http://support.newagepcs.com/showthread.php?2813-How-to-Root-(1-Click-Root)-Samsung-Fascinate&p=2814
I had this issue also. I fixed it by using root explorer to set permissions. You can do this by opening root explorer-system-app-tap 'Mount R/W' at the top until it says 'Mount R/O' and find and long press vending.apk-permissions-check every box for User, and only check read for Group and Others. Then tap ok and reboot. Hope this works for you

My journey to the unconscious brick of the Flipout.

Here's how I bricked my phone, for the ones who're interested:
I think it's a pretty funny story, so keep reading if you're searching for some entertaining story.
So I Bought a flipout because I wanted a small phone. I was pretty satisfied by the phone and it's performance, althought it's kinda an effeminate phone. Anyways, before I knew it (When I booted up the phone for the first time) I was disgusted by Orange's laggy intro: it was supposed to be an explosion followed by an implosion which created the Orange logo (sort of XBOX style). The reality was less: a very laggy 2 or 3 fps intro. Bravo Orange if you were actually aiming for this rate.
When I boot up the phone it shows the menu just like any other phone, but it came with another disgusting fact: MotoBlur. Lag, lag and lag. There it was, in all it's glory:
- It's laggy (not as much as Orange's intro...)
- Uses default services (calendar, gallery) with some unfinished 3D features (that caused needless lag)
- "Happenings" which connects your twitter, facebook and other things.
Although I have to say, I did like the lil tab that shows above and tells you on which screen you were. It looks kinda like the following (excuse me my drawing skills):
.: : . |^| . : :.
resp. -3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3
Anyways, I had to get rid of this "MotoBlur" and the first thing I had to do was to root my device. I remember the days with the G1 which were a hassle to just root your phone, so I was hesitating if I really wanted to go through all this again...
But after a lil search, I found that nowadays we have superoneclick, androot, z4root, etc... etc... So I tried one of these "new" apk's which gave me a small error, so then I tried z4root which was quite easy, fast and simple. I was in. Things were going my way, hell, I even found a brand-new-looking 4GB microSD on my work. Just out of nowhere there it was, very small, laying down on the ground waiting for me to get picked up.
What goes up, must go down...
So there I was with my first steps trying to remove MotoBlur, and although I knew there were tut's about how to remove Orange and Blur, I just couldnt wait. I made backups of my system apk's with Titanium which was quite easy, and it was that precise moment when I was like "GET!", i'm sick of this MotoBlur, let's remove these "things". They are right in front of me, just get rid of them... And while continuously hitting the "remove" button I was daydreaming of a simple usefull handy phone. Bam, bam, bam, I deleted one app after the other, even Google Talk didn't had a chance. Everything was going smooth, bye Blur.Calendar.apk, bye odex, bye Blur.gallery.apk, bye Blur.happenings.apk,... ... ... about 20 apk's later, I was quite satisfied.
But you know how it goes when you just delete stuff without greater knowledge. You BRICK your phone. But people, this was just the start. I had some force close after this one man operation, but my phone was smoother. I have to admit, things were comming unexpected. First I couldnt find my gallery (removed). Then I found out I couldnt download anymore from the Android Market because I deleted Blur.calendar.apk which is connected with Calendar.apk which syncs my G-Mail account which is needed before you can download anything from the Market. Hah! Owned.
Backups.
So there I was having these problems, but the phone still works great. I have to admit I silently thought: luckely I made a backup, and was kinda proud I wasn't one of those noobs who just goes forward without a save game, right? Right? Guys...? Anyone...? . ... ...Wrong! The reality was I couldn't even "restore" with Titanium. The backups weren't real backups, but just data-backups which were stored on my sdcard in .tar format. Aaarrgh!
No problem, no problem. There has to be a way to fix this, someone did this stupidity before me. Obviously. Ofcourse. No?
When I was searching about why I couldn't fix my Titanium backups, someone answered to someone else that's because he couldn't sideload the apps. He needs to root his phone in a way so sideloading is enabled. Great! Sideloading it will be then.
Sideloading is def a great way to install .apk's without the market, because I tried a factory reset (hoping that would solve everything) and I couldn't download anymore from the market. I had to sideload ASTRO which was successful with the right ADB drivers - even though I didn't knew what ADB meant I did register on MotoDev's website (so I can download the little bastard).
Easy peasy. Now I'm back on track with ASTRO and an easy install of Flan Gallery (fixed camera) replaced my gallery. We're off to set!
Despite this minor victory I was aware I'm still not were I wanted to be. Factory reset doesn't get me were I want to be and I'm still having issues. But no problem no problem. This time I'll turn my questions to the community, not google. That's eventually why there is a community? That's why we are open source? Yes. Score. Win.
So maybe some knowledgeable people will reply because they can help the ones who are trying to learn. I think I'll start with how to fix the calendar-issue and then I'll try to make a ROM-backup, so I can install a new ROM or whatever. That's probably a better idea then before. Cool, I even got a quick reply by someone who told me to go to this-and-this site, which is better for noobs. Allrighty then...
Trying my own way.
Since things weren't going were I wanted to, I thought now it's time to give it a real last try by searching about this mystery "ADB" and eventually to push some apps into system/app/ so I could fix all this misery. I found what I was searching for, however the tut about how to push apps sounded like someone was holding a gun against the writer's head. It really sounded like he wrote it against his will.
Desperate attempts.
I started today (15 april) around 5pm local time with this whole pushing-thing because I thought I had the knowledge that I needed and even surprised myself by actually successfuly pushing some apk's using a quick and nice XDA how-to, but then things went from worse to worser. I pushed Blur.calendar.apk, Blur.service.apk, Blur.email.apk, Blur, Blur, Blur... Ironically thát what I wanted to remove at the start came voluntary back in my system/app/ of my phone.
That's quite funny especially when I rebooted my phone and I kept getting force close com.motorola.blur.service.main and I couldn't get around this except by using voice-commands (double tap home button). "Find ASTRO" I said. Finding ASTRO... Opening ASTRO... Ingenious! It was quite amazing that this feature actually works without any bugs or misunderstandings. So I started root manager, rebooted the system with r/w settings so I can try a final attempt by trying to remove blur-service.apk from the system/app/ which actually didn't had any impact. Nothing really happened.
The end.
And there I was having these problems, and the phone doesn't work. A friend of me adviced me on Steam-chat to hard-reset the phone. I could care less, but we had a little discussion about what has more effect hard-reset or factory-reset? Btw... Holding down the power button and the camera button...?! The phone doesn't even has a camera button! Hilarious.
I eventually did the hard-reset with another tut and now the phone is... ehm... kinda... pretty... bricked. It just boots up and then gives 1 continously looping force close of the blur service (which I allready had), and another force close when I finish setting up the blur account wizard. At the end of the wizard it just force close and shows the wizard again,... and again... and again...
Mathematical summon:
+1 noob
+1 bricked phone
- $$$
- (a lot of) time
+ frustrations/stress
+1 story
Equals a possitive outcome?
i've not rooted my Flipout as it seems there's not much you can do with a rooted one anyway
but I've done bad flashes before...many times
and i've always been able to rescue those phones by flashing the original rom. just wondering if this might be an option for you..
See if you can flash that device using RSDLite, I can see some tuts in this board that features this, likely that debranding guide. Hold up+power when it's off and boot into flash mode, not camera+power
A brick = a dead phone, no boot, no flicker, nothing. If it acts like a brick it's a brick, otherwise it's just a messed up phone. I'm sure you'll be able to recover yours...

Moto phone + rsdlite + flipout sbf= fixed phone. Just find those two things and you can restore your phone back to fresh out of the box state again. Promise.

What's up with the Market?

Starting today, I'm only seeing 6 Featured Tablet Apps and the list doesn't expand. I can stil expand the Top Free Apps section, but there was a third section there yesterday (I don't remember what it was) and now that's gone. I still have the categories and things still seem to be searchable.
No root yet.
Just have been installing apps.
And literally, now it's back.
I'm having the same issue. I've done several reboots and a factory reset thinking it might be something to do with the device itself, but nothing changes. It worked fine yesterday when I bought it. Hopefully this issue clears itself up soon.

All I did to clear it up was to just start searching around for apps. I literally searched "tablet apps", took a look at a couple of the results in detail, then backed out to the home menu and then there everything was.
I wonder if it's related to Honeycomb in general.
its the samefor me .but take your browser to the market site and works well.
tthis xda site is/slow for me tonight for some reason boohooo
same for me as well. However after i root the my AA500, it back.. Go figure!!!

[Q] long time watcher and rom user. first time poster.

Hello my name is Xan Steel. I've been trying out roms on this forum for my Epic 4G. However I've run across a lot of bugs in this rom "ACS ICS V6". I would love to be able to post them in the development thread pertaining to the rom, but since I'm under the 10 post limit to post in a dev thread. I would like to ask how I go about doing this the correct way without breaking forum rules.
Thanks in advanced
Xan Steel
Tell us what your problems are here.
1st you have to have 10 post. Go to other threads and comment on stuff like the off topic forum. Then you should be able to post on dev threads. Or you can pm them and let them know.

Well as Neckberg has said to post my issues here (Thanks) I shall.
[ROM] ACS ICS V6.
Where to began.
I came from ACS SyndicateFrozen 1.1.1 I could never get 1.2 to run. And this ROM was based on GB. Really wanted to see what GB was like. SO after installing the ROM. Everything started out normal (no issues at that point). It was sluggish which made me wonder if Carrier I.Q. was still in the ROM. It wasn't listed that it was removed.
SO I started trying things out. Everything was going good until I turned on the Wireless WiFi Tether. It crashed outright. Tried again, and crashed. It would open to a black screen and then crash. So I did some digging, and apparently this is a known issue. So I got a different one from the market that worked (Open Garden WiFi Tether).
I installed Opera. I like Opera for it's desktop mode that actually works over Dolphins. I would type in a address, and hit go, and it would act like its going, and then stop and remove what I had typed. Tried again, and it would load a blank page. Tried a third time, and got the HTML header to load the page in a text format. Uninstalled and reinstalled same thing happen. So I left it alone, and about 3 hours later it had uninstalled itself/completely missing on the phone and market stated it wasn't installed. Rebooted phone, still gone. Not idea where it went. After reinstalling it again. it would do the same thing.
So I flashed and wiped X3. And reloaded the ROM. Thinking I have a bad load.
reinstalled all my apps and even though Opera is still doing it's thing I mentioned earlier, it hasn't uninstalled itself... yet.
Now after the reload of the ROM. Last night I lost cell service (couldn't make calls) but I had data. Which was odd to me. Rebooted the phone, and same thing. Had data but not cell service. After about and hour or so, I have cell and data back together. Maybe it was someone working on the tower in the area at 11pm, or maybe the ROM decided it would be funny.
Another thing I noticed. If you hit the menu button to pull menus in apps and on the home screens. They are white on black. White text and image, on a black background. Now if you go into any sub-menu from the main menu, its black on black. You can't read anything unless your lucky to have a bright white page behind it, so that it can try to bleed through some of the transparency.
The battery icon when charging in portrait goes from normal to skinny (blinking), while in landscape mode it goes from normal to fat (blinking).
Also two music apps is not really needed. One is fine. Trimming down on unneeded apps would help save on space. Also remove Carrier I.Q. if it hasn't been yet.
Adding that super brightness, is actually bad. Not thinking about it, it's actually crashed the video HW of the phone. On a plain white screen at max brightness, it starts to artifact, and if what ever your trying to do doesn't complete. The video HW crashes, and you get a pretty rainbow on the screen until you pull the battery. Basically acts like a dying or dead video card in a PC. Also it can (and has happened to me) cause screen burn in. If you want a image of it let me know and I'll post one.
Also Rom Manager does not recognize any ClockWorkMod Recovery, if you manually install the recovery yourself.
If I find anything else buggy I'll post and update here.
Thanks
Xan Steel

Note, I haven't tried this rom myself.
No, carrierIQ is not removed on this rom, nor has it been removed on any GB rom that I know of. Still, removed or not, it won't make any difference in the performance of the device.
Any apps that you fine are useless can easily be uninstalled, even if they are installed system/app folder. Rom chefs correct attitude about roms is that they build for themselves first. I personally have 3 music players installed.
We don't have official Rom Manager support so that will be an issue on pretty much all non AOSP roms for the epic.
Your lack of service issue it probably a carrier issue and not a rom issue.

It's a good possibility since it only happened the one time, but since it is a beta, and I'm using it for the first time. I felt it needed to be brought up just in case it wasn't. Heh beta tested a lot of new software, and got into the habit of reporting everything, even if it looks like something else is the issue and not the software.
Many Thanks
