Nexus 7 4.1.2 Update error status 7

Hello, I've been trying to install the 4.1.2 Update error to my rooted 4.1.1 nexus 7, with custom kernel, stock rom but I keep getting the error status 7. I tried to install it with twrp, cwr but it says the same thing.... Even doing the adb sideload with no luck... It doesn't install
I don't want to lose my data by flashing the 4.1.2 rom image from Google... My build number is JRO03D.....any help?

u cant flash the update with a custom kernel applied..
flash the stock 4.1.1 kernel and retry..

Any idea where to get 4.1.1 stock kernel? Thx

Download factory images and pull the boot.img

just download the google nexus toolkit and you will find the option for downloading stock kernel

I have the toolkit but the only option to download i see is option 9 but that says it flashes the whole rom
is there a way to do it without losing my data?

I've tried with stock kernel, but without success...
It gives me an error on the signature; when I try to install without signing verification, it gives me this error:
Failed: apply patch_check ("system/app/chrome.apk" - and two groups of 41 aphanumeric characters-).
Could be due to the fact I've installed all system software updates in the past (gapps and others) into rom using Titanium Backup?

After a full backup using CWM, I've flashed stock "system" using Nexus Root Toolkit. Reboot in recovery and applied the JZ054K patch.
New error now... apply patch_check (EMMC: /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/LNX: and a lot of digits...

Go all the way at the bottom of my post. There are two flashable zips. One is for the original the other is for the new kernel.
Just an FYI , you can't flash a boot.IMG like a zip file using cwm or any custom recovery. I use adb for this. You can search for the info on here. There are many posts on it. Hope I helped.

Got odex error
I had my nexus unlocked and rooted using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741395 so I should have original kernel.
I got an error when trying to update related to BrowserProviderProxy.apk that I had renamed to have android browser working.
Now I can't seem to get it to update again from system updates.
Can I retry using the previously downloaded file? Where does the downloaded file gets stored? I got CWM and can download the image again to install, but I was wondering where does it get stored. Thanks!

Nevermind found it in cache folder. I reapplied after renaming the browserprovider and I got 4.1.2 working fine!

Can't update to 4.2

Tried to update to 4.2 today used ota with rootkeeper and tried to flash zip with twrp keep getting error md5 won't check right with flash and ota update gets error and boot me to twrp recovery any help would be appreciated

Re-download the image your trying to flash.
As an MD5 is a checksum, meaning if the MD5 isn't valid something has gone wrong with the download, hense the Check Sum is incorrect.

Had the same problem myself.
The 4.2 update won't install if you changed anything in /system
An example of how you might have done that is used titanium backup to uninstall a system app or use the integrate updates of system apps into ROM option.
The solution is to restore what has changed. For example, if you removed a system app that came with your nexus such as that Korean keyboard app (which a lot of people seem to have done) you need to somehow get a hold of that apk and put it back into /system/apps or the update will not install.

Can confirm that any changes to the system in any way will stop the device updating via ota.
I moved apps and froze some installed some custom changes to system ui etc the normal stuff you do when rooted. The update downloaded fine but would not install.
Thankfully I had a cwm stock backup,hid root using voodoo ota rootkeeper then was able to update to 4.2 then restore all apps and data using titanium backup.

Thanks for the help I just used wugfresh and the tgz file for 4.2 wiped everything but no worries there. Got 4.2 running all I have to do is root

Alright, so I'm running 4.2.1, and I'm rooted. I want to update to 4.2.2, but will this brick my nexus 7? Will it just unroot? How should i go about this?

No it won't brick it but you may lose root. There are many guides to manually flashing the OTA on unlocked and rooted Nexus 7.

You might not be able to update even though you are on stock ROM because in order to root n7 we need to unlock the bootloader and hence you cant

This is the extracted factory image for 4.2.2 - in both odexed and deodexed verisons, rooted with insecure boot, init.d support & busybox - easily flashed from CWM or TWRP - data & apps are preserved.

As always, backup first off to PC or cloud storage as a matter of precaution first. From download to prep to finish, less than 20 minutes - which is the path that I took, directly from 4.1.2 rooted to 4.2.2 and rooted.

To root?

I've just got my N4 and am thinking about rooting it to allow me to install cerebus on the system partition, when a new version of android comes out would I simply be able to delete the cerebus apk and update the software? Also once the boot loader is unlocked can I re-root (in case i loose root with the update) without loosing any data?

Unlock the boot loader before you do anything because it will wipe all of your data. Then root it. As long as you don't install a custom recovery, I believe that you can still get the ota updates.
Edit..Rooting does not wipe data.

if i remember correctly, using a custom recovery stops OTA updates
but you can always fastboot flash a new google stock image when an update is available : https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
(you have to root again afterwards)

Flash OTA with TWRP

Today I received the ota for 4.4 on my Nexus 4 and when I pressed "restart and install" it went to my custom recovery (which was flickering BTW Idk why never seen it do that before) and when I restarted it I wasn't running 4.4. I found the download location for the OTA would it be OK for me to boot into twrp and simply flash it like I would any other custom rom? Just wanted to ask before I did it.

Hi, What format is it in? Unless it's in a zip format (which I doubt) then flagging it through recovery won't work I think .. I'll have a poke about and see what I can find ..

Hi can you tell me where you found the ota folder I am looking for it but can't locate it.I had the same problem as you.I think we need to be on stock recovery for it to install.

Usually a root browser go to root and it is under the cache folder.

Then I see no reason why you can't give it a go Make sure you have a backup of everything though before you go ahead .. I'm assuming you already have an unlocked bootloader ..

guys you can't flash the OTA while running custom recovery or roms. If you want to be on kitkat why not just download one of the many stock rooted roms out there? Make your life simple and for future reference like I said custom recovery will not flash OTA unless its been manipulated by someone

I tested flashing OTA using latest TWRP successfully on a 100% unmodified stock rom with no root. CWM on the other hand is not compatible for flashing OTA.
I do not recommend doing this, modifications to your /systems partition or root can cause it to fail and softbrick. I have heard people hardbricking their device too due to the bootloader getting corrupted in the process.
Make a backup before you flash.

I have installed franco kernel but I backed up the stock kernel and restored it. I have also used xposed but I uninstalled that as well as disabled and uninstalled the only module I was running which was gravity box.

Backup your data partition first, then follow either of the two guide links in my signature to flash 4.4 factory image without wiping data.

I had the same problem yesterday where the OTA made absolutely no changes (This method worked fine when I went from 4.2 to 4.3 under the same conditions; TWRP, unlocked bootloader, and stock ROM). It may be related to a new conflict with TWRP. I also had a hybrid radio installed, but I put the stock radio back in before I tried the OTA; however there were a couple changes associated with this such as build prop changes and LTE activation that I did not revert. Who knows. After searching this forum I came across a fix in the "Nexus 4 OTA Help-Desk" thread...fancy that. If you have the Android SDK installed, this is a really quick and easy fix.

Hybrid radios are fine I have been running 4.4 and .27/84 with no issues for weeks... No need to flash the 97 if you have a hybrid radio that was already working fine. sometimes just cuz its new dont make it better...

Good to know. By the way, the 27/84 hybrid radio is the only one that would work for me (quick GPS lock). I don't have LTE in my immediate area anyway (Straight Talk AT&T), so I am in no rush, and will see how the .27/97 works out for users.

Yes, and since then in other forums, and since then in eksasol's post above.

I was in the same boat as you. Flashed stock 4.4 (entire image, not just the ota) and never lost data. I did have to reroot though.
