Here's an article about Samsung addressing the issue with documentation. I know they didn't give a solution and words are just words, but hopefully they are sincere.

It would make a lot of people upset if they were to tease a solution like this and then not do anything about it.

they've done it before, lets hope they don't do it again !
Its just disappointing how Samsung let it get to their heads as to how successful they've been in recent years. Forgetting that the same people who bought their devices contributing to their success are the same people asking for documentation and source. And to even go the extra step and tease a solution without honoring their word is just inappropriate.
Its actions like this that just makes one feel like sticking to the Nexus range of devices.

Please I beg you hire the devepolers of XDA the people here are more skilled than the people y'all keep hiring off craigslist. When ever I call sprint for help I get some script reading fool that knows nothing about what's going on with there service. I can come here and get an answer within mins of asking or searching the threads. Better yet XDA get live phone support if that's possible. Its less frustration to able to talk to someone that actually has a clue of why you calling.

Send a letter to Sprint.
Good luck with that one. Carriers aren't the issue. Devs help manufacturers improve their software for free by trying to enjoy their devices at full capacity. But sure send em a letter.

all it needs is alot of bad media attention and everything is resolved
If sprint hired XDA dev it would be bad news..why?
Because then XDA devs would have to sign contracts that prevent them from doing what they are now..and also you have to remember that Sprint's goal is not the same as ours...
Sprint's goal is to load bloatware and lock as many features as possible so they can sell them to you..and with XDA dvs working for Sprint no one will be there to remove those limitations...so be careful what you wish for..

You have to remember that a lot of these "devs" just copy and paste or modify code. In order to have what you perceive to be all these great developers to be hired. The developers need to know how to code from scratch.

Exactly. I am not sure what our most talented developers do exactly, but I am pretty sure they aren't writing device drivers from scratch.
well see who the real devs are when the source code is released.

you also have to remeber the people answering the phones dont know $hit cuz they dont get paid $****. Anyone with the knowledge of the devs here is not going to go work for $10/hr answering phones for sprint. Same at any company the "tech" people at the help/service desk know basic trouble shooting if anything at all.

What do you mean with collaboration ?
I'm a new member but would like to know something about the past of this community
There was someone apparently from Samsung who showed up and claimed they wanted to get in touch with the community. Think someone called tommy? Dunno, but he just went MIA..too much effort involved? Or maybe they found a small group and connected with them?
Thank you for the information. But was there ever anyone who checked if he was really form samsung ?
Maybe it was just a bad joke of someone....
I don't think there is any collaboration. Otherwise Samsung would have solved a lot of bugs by now
No there was! I was part of the question asking team. The questions were all sent to samsung and xda is awaiting replies
Galaxy S - no point in writing rom or kernel constantly changing!
Well, the so-called collaboration failed miserably.
It was 'samsungjohn' I believe who commenced a thread/s across multiple models to allow Samsung users to post ideas etc or something like that.
The amount of abuse from users forced xda to completely stop or remove the threads.
As a result it never really got off the ground and if I were samsungjohn I wouldn't even bother again.
Kind of a waisted opportunity I believe but many posters believe it was just PR crap. I guess we will never know.

SO EXCITING. Support for almost all CM7 devices should mean our shifty is getting it!
TBH I think everyone already knows that the Cyanogenmod team is doing what they always do. So nothing new about this. Most people are just too lazy to follow the members on twitter or keep up with their tweets. It's nothing to get excited about yet. Who knows how long it is going to take them to get us a flashable update anyways. Could be this month, could be 4 months down the road, we just don't know. The point is don't get your hopes up and expect anything soon.

I kid....I kid...
This is good news. Looks like my Shift and Evo 3D will be getting some early CM9 lovin'.

You know there are those of us who feel that we have worked very hard to build a great country for those of you who would slap us in the face with that logo you fly in your avatar. So carefeul who you point the lazy finger at ! Because it's my choice not to do what you do does not make me lazy! You are like some in your generation you paint with a broad brush. Have a great day !
Without them(developers) this place would not be called *Insert You Device Forum Name Here* but something else, e.g Mobile Phone & Tablet User Support Services For Ungrateful Nerds.

As Galaxy S owners, we are all united. As Android users we are all united. As far as Samsung is concerned we are all NOT created equal. Our device, the Vibrant (SGH-T959), is now being left to the wayside for any future updates from Samsung even though our core specs are extremely similar to the Google Nexus S, which has already received the ICS update. The CyanogenMod team has left us due to the on-going issue of 911/e911 and the lack of the proper code from Samsung to alleviate a potentially fatal result of a custom ROM. It is our intentions to serve Samsung with a petition asking for the update to ICS, which will in-turn, alleviate the 911/e911 issue as well.
We are asking all Galaxy S users to sign this petition to get Samsung to reconsider giving all top end Galaxy S devices the ICS update. Please help us with our goal and sign the petition. If you are on a Galaxy S phone, this affects you too.
Thank you for reading this and please see this link for more details and this link to sign the petition.
I concur

Well the ns4g was given ics from google and not samsung. But the problem becomes a ram issue (fascinate has only 384mb, not sure on the other variants) and the fact that samsung isn't going to give you straight up ics, it would be a fat pig that includes touch wiz and would also munch all of the ram just on boot. Even cm9 has it's ram challenges running on the fascinate. I'm not at all surprised or shocked that samsung has made this decision. But good luck with your efforts.
good day.

People report stuff cause they "find it offensive" well it is the truth what I said. It just is kinda annoying not to get a pm asking me to revise my post or anything. I would have revised it myself. But oh well, this isn't the place to ***** about the mods doing their jobs :rolls eyes:

Understand your frustration - all of those with the bad luck of having or OTA'ing to MF3 are going bonkers. . .Really don't have any clue since this appears to be one of the truly hard fixes (oops... exploits) to find.
As to friendly Android folks, well actually there are. Even here . OK, you are right that XDA is different. Some threads are rather prickly and if you jump in with a "stray" comment they jump in and flame and complain.
But other threads are more mellow; and you can see the same, same, same, same, same, same, same, same, question asked again and again and someone will politely (more or less) answer these queries or refer the questioner to the right spot. . . So, that's not unusual. (sorry, the hot/repeat question these days seems to be . . . .MF3 ETA! :crying
But all this in not unique to Android. In the Apple support pages, which I frequent every now and then for my MAC issues, I found some rather brusque replies and non-helpful at that! It's not a function of OS. . .it's people and organizational/group culture.
XDA is a real mix of intense, "bleeding-edge" developers and users, who push their software and hardware in very dynamic ways, but who also can be edgy -and not in a good way.
XDA also has "normal" folks, who drop in for help, or add something they like and (unfortunately) sometimes even want to share it with others .
Finally, XDA has people (some with surprisingly high numbers of posts!) who have hardware or software problems and need help, but are also clueless. Sometimes folks in this last group are in need of help AND they are impatient or even demanding of the reply posters. . . that's kind of not a good approach!
I guess that makes XDA sort of like real life, it all depends upon who you meet!
There is no doubt that XDA can be a bit off-putting if you don't connect in the right way for the particular thread. but is that happens, don't worry about it! The next thread will be more helpful or understandable, or maybe even friendly . . .
Good Luck

There are plenty of nice people dankify... I'm one of them. But when I saw the title of this thread, my mind instantly went "uh oh".
It's something most of us had to learn on XDA, and it's usually the first lesson. Never ask for ETAs for anything. Never ever ever. There are some that get very bent about it, and in some cases understandably so, since everything done on here is done by donation and lots of thankless free time.
I'm no coder, I'm a leech, so I just try to help out where I can. I'm waiting for the MF3 bootloader unlock too, and it'll come. We just have to watch the forums and be patient.
Also, welcome to Android. I think you're going to find that you like it here, this one bump in the road aside
I appreciate it. Ya I'm so glad to have gotten rid of my crapy apple. Am able to do so much without mods that was needed on the iPhone to even do some. Can't imagine how cool it will be to get a custom rom. Hopefully soon

Sorry man, there are a lot of friendly and helpful people here. Just some etiquette to learn as many of us have been here a long time. The best thing you can do is read, read and learn. You'll always get a helping hand if you follow that. Welcome and the best to you!
