I am running CM5b4 and have noticed that the backup option even though enabled does not backup any of my settings or apps after a wipe. Is this feature disabled in custom roms? Is there something I'm missing that does not allow a proper sync? Picasa, gmail, calender, etc...all sync properly. Thanks in advance XDA!

It doesn't actually back up your apps...just the record of what apps you had. It does backup your bookmarks and settings to the cloud, however. Upon booting after a wipe, it should automatically sync your settings, bookmarks, and download your apps from the Market if you have a data connection.
Thanks. The market list did show up with both free/paid apps but after a few minutes only the paid apps remained and non downloaded automatically. As to settings and bookmarks they never reappeared. I had a 3g connection the whole time. Would flashing the stock rom before cm5b4 or possibly formatting the SD card be a possible fix for my issue or would it not matter since its only supposed to sync with Google's servers? Any suggestions are welcome.
You're gonna have to wait for someone else to answer that... I'm unrooted.
I'm on cyanogenMod 5.0 b4. I can check. I don't know where that "backup my settings" thing is, though. Where can I find that?
It's located under Settings>Privacy>Bacup Up My Settings...I found that when I flashed back to the shipping rom (stock) ER79 the feature worked fine, but when flashing to cm5b4 it stopped working again.
perhaps you can check:
settings --> Privacy
took me long enough time to figure that out

Yes. You flashed back to stock, and I assume you didn't load any apps, so Google's last record of your system was one without any apps, hence they're off the list.
I really hope someone can tell me how to get that option back, it's not in the MidNIGHT ROM. (I'm on an Epic)
I know its an old thread but I didn't want to open a new one.
Is there a website I can visit to see what's backed up for which devices under my accounts. I have 4 android devices, I'm curious whats up all in there, as seemingly this process does work, but sometimes not 100%

www.google.com/dashboard
that is the most extensive look at your data that I know of. the only thing it shows with regard to Android is your IMEI number for your devices. maybe poke around and see if you can find more stuff.
Installed the Dexter upgrade 1.2. Update went flawlessly. Followed all the steps outlined in earlier posts. Now have Calendar!!!! and market icon. When I try to add my gmail account I get the following message -
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server."
I can sign into my gmail account through the browser...but can't seem to connect via the "add a google account" or through the gmail icon (which was not a problem before the upgrade.)
Also tried to set up a new gmail account. Get the same message.
Any ideas?
Make sure your date and time is set correctly
Time and date are set properly. But I switched to automatic just in case...
Still get the same message. Worth a try though. Thanks.
Market issues
I am having the same issue with the google / gmail account setup. It does not appear to be connecting through the wireless when connecting to google. I have let the inital connection fail then it sets up the wireless and that gives the message about not being able to connect to data services (cell network). I can browse with the browser fine and is otherwise normal but will not set up google accounts. Did the factory wipe and the install went great without any other issues.
Cannot get to market HELP!
Ok this is a major problem, market won't allow you to sign in with your google account. Ever since the update to 1.2 is like they put a lock on the market! I wiped both the user settings as well as the cache before updating to 1.2 and I am still locked out. Can anyone clarify what I am doing wrong?!
still not working
OK...came to my office and tried a different wireless network..not that I thought that was the problem, but anything is a shot. I have wiped the cache, etc. et.c
Still a no go.
All the workarounds that I have found use You Tube...but A7 doesn't have You Tube and no other sites that I can access offer it.
Since this thread isn't on the "developer" part of XDA not sure if anyone who can help is seeing it.
Here's the upside...I didn't have market before..so I haven't lost anything except a lot of time.
Has anyone gone back to the previous mod version to see if it doing the same thing? Could it be an issue with Google and not the mod?
I have not done that...but will try it tonight. I had othe problems with 1.1...FC on both sound and brightnes and the calendar, so I went right to 1.2 after that rather than load anything back onto the device.
This has been happening since yesterday. the g tablet section is having the same issue, as are many other I'm sure. Google seem to be screwing with the market.

Hey guys...
I finally stopped being lazy and got myself a replacement DVP...
So now my question is since I've gotten everything in order on my old phone...how do I transfer all my contacts and apps to the new phone? Does Zune do it for me or do I have to go download every app again?

APPS: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/marketplace and log in. It will give you an option to resend the apps to your phone (settings will be lost).
Contacts: If they were stored on Facebook, twitter, and hotmail/live then all you need to do is add those accounts back and then relink them if you have duplicates.
Alright looks like thats all finished up, but do i have to go through and reinstall each individual app?

Yeah the online market is pretty awesome now. note that the list of previously installed apps doesn't keep track of uninstalled ones though so don't go clicking crazy
I have tried rooting my NST using TouchNooter 1.11.20 following instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343143
But, I do not see YouTube app or anyhing like that. There is Gmail, but no YouTube, where I should sign in.
What am I missing?
Nevermind, I found the YouTube app, but I still cannot get Market working -I am getting "A server error has occured" message. YT and Gmail work.
Any ideas what might be wrong?

If you check in on the TouchNooter 1.11.20 thread over in the development forum, you'll see that this seems to be a common problem. It appears based on those postings that the Market app will start working after a certain time (overnight?), assuming everything else is correct.
I've discovered that you can get into the Market without waiting by adding a SECOND account. (In Gmail, click into the settings from ButtonSavior, then click accounts, and there'll be a button to add one.)
I discovered this by accident trying to set things up for my wife. I thought there was a problem because she did not have a Youtube account set up through her Google Apps account. So I went ahead & added my account to the NST to make sure the rooting process had worked, and lo and behold there was the Market. Now I needed to figure out how to delete my account (which I still haven't figured out how to do!), but in the process of researching that, I ran across this business with a delay for the market to start working.
I then wiped out my NST and went back to the backup I made before I started all this (version 1.1) so I could try again with a different account.. and a third time too, just to make sure with a different order of accounts. It was consistent: the first account gives the "server error" message when opening Market; the second goes right in.
Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of one of the accounts that's set up. Anybody know that one? If the "Accounts & Sync" setting I'm used to in stock Android is there, it's well-hidden. (For that matter I'd like to get rid of Gmail... or at least not have it auto-sync.)
Slartiwhatever,
thanks for your comment, registering second account and syncing it fixed my problem too! I do not really mind having two accounts set up, so this works well enough for me.
I have an N7 3g. I'm using MoDaCa's JR-4. Outgoing emails continually get stuck in the outbox and don't go out. I think it has something to do with N7. I have never had this problem with other android cell phones, PC, etc.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
I have had this problems on phones before, but not yet on the N7 *knocks on wood.
First I would check your sync settings to make sure all is appropriate.
The way I was able to remedy the situation was to either uninstall gmail, and reinstall, or just uninstall the latest update. I haven't had that fail me yet. You could also try clearing data, cache, and force stop the app from settings first.
(may require reboot after)
Good luck!
i had this issue in Gmail today on the N7 running a CM 10.1 nightly. i used to see this a lot as well on Gingerbread, and uninstalling the app/clearing data in the app does work but makes you lose the draft you had written(which sucks if it was a long one!). i used to solve it by clicking reply and creating a dummy message in the same thread, saving that message as a draft, then going into my drafts folder and the message that got stuck would have an option to send... or something like that, and that worked. however, i couldn't seem to get it to work today, on Gmail 4.1.2 fortunately my stuck message today was small, so i just cleared data in the app and rewrote it, and it did send then.
You could also just highlight the whole draft and copy, then paste when done. It should be copied to your clip board and not the gmail app. I suppose it is always safer to save it somewhere before deleting, though I would think if you were going to do that, you would want to save the copy in a different app like ever note.

I'll try that here on Jelly Bean next time, but that actually wasn't possible before. When the message got stuck sending, it was in a limbo state where the text of the message wasn't accessible to be copied! I definitely tried that because i lost some pretty long drafts!

I have rolled back gmail to the earlier version several times but it keeps updating behind my back and emails become stuck in the outbox again. Also, although I'm currently using JR-4, I have CM-10, PA, and stock rooted ROMS nandroided. I could restore any of them and test, but I'm pretty certain it's ubiquitous. It's either the gmail app or android 4.21.
Also, I have a Galaxy Note 2. 2 versions of gmail are installed: 1.0 and 4.21, and emails don't get stuck. N7 only has has 4.21 installed. Why doesn't N7 also have 1.0 installed?
Also, I just cleared cache and data and the email is resynching. I'm certain that the problem will return. I love the N7, but this is really annoying.

Is there a particular version of Gmail that works better? If so, have you gone into your market settings and disabled automatic updating? I've been running the 4.1.2 version for a long time now, and it never updates to 4.2. I also disabled update notifications so it doesn't bug me at all.
But yeah, it's an annoying issue. Sometimes i turn to K9 Mail, as it works great for Gmail accounts. Plus i love the dark theme option. In the end i like the way native Gmail synchs tho.

Thanks for your help. How can I downgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2? I think that will work until Google addresses this issue. The Disable link inside "App Info" used to show this downgrade capability. However, that text was probably there when I was using a different Rom. I have MoDaCa JR-4 running now and I think I want to keep it.
I think if you flashed a ROM that came with 4.2, you won't have the option to uninstall updates. In any case, i posted 4.1.2 in the 3rd to last post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005006. You can just uninstall 4.2 and install 4.1.2 if you wish. I will warn you tho, I did have the stuck sending issue yesterday, but I think that was the first time.

Oh sorry, if it is a /system app in the ROM, then you'll need to use Titanium Backup or a file explorer app. The free version of Titanium will do the job.

Yep, you might even want to disable automatic updating first, haha. And If I remember correctly, the apk installs just by tapping install, no need to paste it into /sysyem/app, I don't think...

Bad news 4.1.2 emails are now stuck in outbox.
This happens because Google wants to take over your e-mail service; in other words you must be using your Android or smartphone's e-mail app instead of Google's GMAIL App. There are two fixes to this problem, first is to download Goggle's GMAIL App and use that for email communication; and second is to ask google to allow 'less secure' apps i.e. non-google to access your e-mails (i know!) Here are the steps for the second option:
Allowing less secure apps to access your account
Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.
Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:
Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:
Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)
If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.
