A May release would also be prefect.
EDIT: Note that I said "a successor for MY G2." As in, it will be the next device I own. I'm not saying that it is T-Mo or HTC's successor to the G2.

I no c da keyboardz!
Screen is too big.
No keyboard.
How can that possibly be worthy? It isn't even a worthy successor to HTC DREAM.
That's so mean to the G2. The G2 is like still in its adolescent stages in life, and you are already talking about replacing the G2. Poor G2. I'll let my G2 live to a ripe old age before replacing it!
No hardware keyboard = no replacement.
4.3" is pretty big. I had the HD2 with Android and while the real estate was nice, it was a bit wonky.
I'll keep my eye on it though.

My thoughts exactly. One of the primary reasons I bought the Desire Z was because of the decent hardware keyboard. A device without it is definatly not an actual successor for me. The HTC Pyramid looks more like a Desire HD replacement.

I gladly welcome the larger screen at the higher resolution, and I didn't mind the size of the EVO. Also, they hardware keyboard is but a minor bonus in my book. The Pyramid crushes the G2 in every single way to me.

To sorta echo others here, I came to the G2 for the subdued, industrial design, and stayed for the hardware keyboard. This new phone sounds pretty amazing on paper, but HTC is kind of hit or miss with how their phones look. Give me lots of brushed steel and a surprise physical keyboard, then we'll talk.
Beyond that, I don't see how this phone crushes the G2. It's like saying "phones two years from now crush the G2." Well, sure, probably. But not yet.
Come on HDMI out =)
sounds sweet indeed, but I wouldn't even compare it to the G2.
this just sounds like another flashy, "look at my phone it is cooler than yours" device. that's all well and good and I'm sure it's going to be blisteringly fast and have some amazing features that I'll be envious of, but I went to the G1 and then the G2 for reasons that this device won't address.
for me, form follows function... and I can already tell this is going to be catered to the form crowd.

From a purely technical standpoint, it is better than the G2 in every way (not counting the hardware keyboard since that's hit or miss). I'm ASSUMING HTC won't do anything like Samsung did with the Nexus S and just leave out basic features present in existing handsets.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
I also went to the G2 for the keyboard but I'm not too afraid of losing it. It's seems like all the super phones coming out are ditching the keyboard so I might as well get used to it. Who knows, maybe I will like the once piece design better than a slider or flip. But I'm not going to have to find that out for another 2 years or so.

I don't know how you guys do it! I know it isn't financially viable for everyone to always upgrade to the latest and greatest, but I just have to get a new phone after about 6-8 months. The technology just moves so fast, and I honestly get a little bored!
if you didn't get the G2 for the keyboard, than excuse me but why did you get the G2? it's my favorite phone of all time, yes, but the whole point of getting it is the keyboard. otherwise there's like 100 equally or more powerful android devices you could have gotten.
The G2 was nice but for those of us who don't care for a keyboard, it was an easy pass. And the Nexus S made barely any improvements to specs.
Enter the G2x: finally, a stock Android slate phone with beefier specs.

Tegra 2 Dual-core processor

It launches with 2.2, but who knows how hackable it will be? Will this get CM7? That would be amazing.
Thoughts?
2.2 is kinda disappointing
The other than that its fine

Agree...maybe it's just the picture angle illusion?
I really want this device especially running stock my main issues are these.
1. Upgrading to 2.3 and so on. Especially now thay T-Mobile might change to att they might not care about tmobile branded devices. (This does not apply to rooters)
2.battery power. I hate charging every phone I had after 8 hr. This is my main issue i heard that it was suppose use only both cores when needed so battery should be better but yet nobody has confirm it.

Being LG I'd be very hesitant. Like how the OS is left mainly untouched though.
Aesthetically isn't the prettiest, but damn did that look responsive and quick.
Can't wait for a dual core Nexus from HTC! (Guy can dream can't he)
I may get it with my upgrade in July, but I'd like to see how hackable it is first.
Personally I wouldn't buy another T-Mobile phone. The merger with ATT is likely to be approved and the news on the street is that ATT is going to get rid of the T-Mobile 1700 3G frequency which means that this phone would be made obsolete relatively soon.

I never bought an LG before because they looked cheap BUT with the Optimus 2X and 3D it's obvious that LG put all their know-how,efforts and will to compete with their Korean enemy aka samsung!
ALL the reviews are very positive and the few people who had the chance to buy it were impressed by the quality, speed and camera!
PaulObrien,Formel,Cyanogen and other big names of XDA are planning to dev on optimus 2X so if you want the same amount of quality custom roms then the LG Opti 2X is the flagship
Not even close to being a replacement for my N1!

As above, it doesn't have Nexus in the name, so it's not a replacement for it.
It might well have vanoilla Android, but that doesn't mean much for updates... look at the G2 with it's awesome vanilla Gingerbr... oh, wait
Why didn't they just go with a full gig of RAM? I want the one with more gbs!

Ooh, really? Link? I would love to read what these guys said about it, especially Cyanogen of course.
Let me first say that we all know that the Desire Z is an amazing phone and still is. It's got a great camera, speed, screen, features, keyboard, sound, unlocked bootloader, etc. However at the current moment there isn't really a great successor to it in my opinion. And by successor I don't mean a true successor of course. Let's take a look at some QWERTY phones on the market:
MyTouch 4G Slide
http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_mytouch_4g_slide-4018.php
It's basically a G2 with slightly better specs and a better camera. Not much of an upgrade.
Droid 3
http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_droid_3-4036.php
Last time I heard it had a locked bootloader so it has very limited software support. Definitely not friendly in that department. Specs are better than the 4G Slide.
Captivate Glide
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i927_captivate_glide-4071.php
I had high hopes for this one. It has a lot of improvements such as a AMOLED screen, slightly bigger screen, and similar specs to the Galaxy S2. However, it is somewhat of a downgraded Galaxy S2 considering that it came out just recently as it lacks LTE support and it does not have a higher resolution than the G2. However Samsung is friendly to the open source community. Oh also no LED notification (Ahh!).
So if I had to pick now it would be the Captivate Glide but I am not going to. I am hoping that HTC will make the G3 and put all their top tier specs onto the QWERTY phone like they did with the G2, including a bigger and higher resolution screen, LTE support, quad core CPU, etc.
Long live the G2/Desire Z!
Oh and yes the Droid 4 is coming out. From the looks of it, it will be a Droid RAZR but in QWERTY.
Droid 4 sure looks interesting but will it make it to Europe ah probably will, under the name Milestone. I like the way the 4 basic android buttons are still present, hope ICS wont kill them in the future phones.
Not going to change my phone for a while tough DZ works great, had it for about a year now. And i suppose it depends also if these phones will get MIUI rom . But i'm interested to see HTC make G3, not just yet tough, next summer maybe. within a year i hope.
i was caught by this statement "However Samsung is friendly to the open source community. Oh also no LED notification (Ahh!)."
is HTC not dev friendly? me? yeah. sucks. they left Desire series. that includes our Z.
anyway going back to the topic. i prefer the Glide.
No offense but the g2's camera sucks. Video recording is like 20fps in areas slightly less than ideal lighting conditions and stills require a steady hand and ideal lighting.
The Captivate Glide sounded interesting at first. But the more I read, the more I'm disappointed.

Sounds like crappy exterior build quality, and bad keyboard. And as the OP mentioned, no LTE. Really not much of an upgrade from the G2/DZ, IMO.
And the 1 GHz CPU on the Captivate Glide seems obsolete out of the box, as the high end smartphones are going to 1.2 GHz and higher nowadays.
Like everyone here mention Droid 4 is awesome I dont like sammy software as i myself had epic 4g it was buggy on input that physical keyboard wasnt even optimize for the software like on full touch screen galaxy line. As im more in love with stock aka pure google or vanilla phones. I would wait for htc to release the G3 before deciding to get another plus all the apps i want i can get. Their no point upgrading if android market is supporting our phones. I love droid when it was the first one because of vanilla experience unless moto change their way i wont get the droid 4. Droid 3 is awesome but i dislike both Motoblur and Sense ui referring to htc phone on that. I rather have touchwiz before both. But it your pick on what phone your getting.
i wouldn't go as far as to say the DZ has a great screen. it actually kinda sucks. so I think the next best thing will be ANY phone with a keyboard, better screen, better camera, will probably be HTC (or moto now that google is running things there) and at the very least just as fast (but faster probably and probably dual core). so..... the MT4GS? lol

Yeah DZ rocks as long. Before i buy anything i probably wait for it to get MIUI. I don't like sense, not sure about motoblur/touchwiz, never used them. So i might even enjoy them.
Anyway i get the hardware i like and root it to get the firmware the way i like. I'd like to see G3 popping up in 9 months.
I honestly dont think the Htc g3 will appears for a while until t-mobile feel like making g2 users jump the wagon. Because mytouch slide 4g was the same screen size i didnt like that it had sense ui to be honest/.
Specs the mytouch 4g slide is better but i dont like sense ui, to me that not better in my opinion,if im going to root a phone i dont want to root it for Stock ui .
i want to have stock already just overclock it and use root explorer to delete the apps i dont like.

Google g1 was best phone that run all version of all time.
I dont think the nexus one will past beyond Ice cream sandwich and if it do android 4.5 os or 5.0 jelly bean will be it last update.

Guys what's the difference between the Mytouch 4g and the Q, can they use the same firmware or no???
Mytouch 4G is made by HTC running HTC sense with "Mysense" overlay. It is an older but more powerful phone with more ram and a better screen.
The Q is made by LG running LG **** with a "Mysense" overlay. It is new but has horrible construction and the screen tends to be unresponsive.
Hit thanks if i have helped.
P.S. NO, you cant flash Mytouch 4g roms on the Q
So basically no one cares about the Q, and is forever never going to have a customer firmware?
THat really sucks, there are a lot of ****ty phones on this forum that have there own forum, why not the Q, at least you can root it for godsakes.

hind sight is always 20/20.
If you want a phone with a lot of development then you need to 1) do research 2) buy a popular phone. not a cheap one.
doesn't matter I'll reject the shipment and once again by another phone on craigslist or ebay, I'll buy another Mytouch 4G, so I can have the EEPROM die on me again. This will be my 4th smartphone in a row. Whatever.

You're just coming across as that we are the reason the LG MyTouch has no development sector.

I bought my daughter the Lg "Q" a few months ago and to be honest it's pretty compatible to the glacier (mine) as far as hardware is concerned.
The problem everyone is having here is the fact that there are more advanced devices coming to the market and for people that can't just shell out $500+ for a new device get shafted on the forums. It should be the other way around the phone companies guilt you into a more expensive device if they can the forums should support the community as a whole.
There are exceptions with devices that don't have the quality that others do but this device does everything the glacier does. There should be a vote to see if there's enough people with the device to make a forum for it that way no one gets left out without a chance to be heard at least and if there's not then it was given a chance to be denied for a valid reason.

I'm trying to say if there are as many people out there that would like a forum to work on it and it's enough for it to be worth looking into then there should be some system in place for voting on whether or not a forum gets put up.
Just because people don't have the money to bang out a spare $500 every time a new device comes out doesn't mean they should also get the shaft on a site that is solely community based.

I feel ya man, But as a rule of thumb HTC devices seem to always be supported better and longer on XDA, All the others maybe save for Samsung is always a crapshoot for development! And Its not just about specs. HTC hardware is just better known then LG's and has superior build quality. IF custom roms is your thing its best to research first to see if your phone has a forum and make sure it is a international phone. The more people that use it, the better chance of it being developed for.

Nice try, but not even close. The Mytouch 3g slide and 4g were OUTSTANDING phones... I still have them both. The mt4g is still one if the best phones out today. The mt4g slide was ok... Now I have to say, I love this phone. It is incredibly cheap and I refuse to let go of it. But it is getting dated, despite it running CM10 fairly well. I desperately want to upgrade, but I want a keyboard. I can't stand typing on a touch screen.
I know Motorola has a couple phones with keyboards, but IIRC porting a Motorola phone to a service like Boost is all but impossible. Something about the instructions for doing a few changes on Motorola phones isn't programmed into Linux or something. I know Qualcom chipsets are easy to change things in the phone, but Motorola is weird.
So basically I'm hoping for something from Samsung, LG, or HTC that isn't dated as hell. A good phone that competes with the touch screen only phones. Anyone see anything new?
All that is out or will be available in the near future is the LG Cayenne and Moto Photon Q.
Just saw this rumor!!!

October 23, 2012, 10:20 A.M., Tuesday, New York local time — Samsung is launching a new Galaxy S3 variant with Android Jelly Bean, and QWERTY keyboard?
Well it looks like Samsung is on the verge of adding yet another Samsung Galaxy S3 variant this year. Last week, Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, the smaller version of the popular Android handset with a dual-core processor and the latest version of Android, the Android Jelly Bean mobile operating system. Now, a new leak is suggesting that Samsung is testing a new Galaxy device that runs Android Jelly Bean mobile operating system too, but with a more unusual display resolution, 1280 x 672.

:good: Nice find .... we may still have hope ... :fingers-crossed:
^ Holy ****! if this is true, it looks like the Epic family (current & past) will all be on a new device, in the same place again! I hope this is true. if it is, we will have THE BEST development community and members, hands down. Wish for the best!

This would be great! The LG Cayenne sounds cool too!
It's kind of upsetting though. When we look at the Galaxy S3, the US was given one with a dual core processor, while anywhere else had the quad core exynos processor. The LG Optimus G has me intrigued, but again...no keyboard. LG seems to release a lot of keyboard models though. Perhaps?
It would have been good news if I hadn't heard about the Optimus G just last week lol.
Just an update, they're now speculating that will just be a phone with a fold-able LCD screen. I had so much hope for this one!

Looks like I'm going to be staying with the Epic for a while then. Photon Q with it's non-replaceable battery is a no-go for me, and the Cayenne doesn't look like that much of an upgrade from the Epic.
I feel a lot better about the Epic at this point in time than I did with the step-child Samsung Moment I had a year ago and I still haven't tried CM9 yet, still on TPR 2.1.

SMH....It looks like I will be holding on to "old faithful" until Sprint show me something that's worth upgrading to.

it's the end of the line for high end keyboard phones. even the once mighty verizon droid # series has been overtaken by the droid razr...

Probably not what you want because the battery is embedded and there's no microSD slot or HWKB but the pre order for the Optimus G is on the sprint site. It has a 1.5 Ghz quadcore S4 pro with 2 gigs of ram and 32 gigs of internal storage. With a 13 MP camera and a 4.7" screen.

It's sad when you see a phone like that that is barely better in the processor department, and worse in camera and other departments.
Also nobody likes LG phones. I bought the LG Fathom years ago, which had a lot of promise but was ultimately ignored by the community. Samsung seems to be the modding phone of choice. Motorola you can't port to other carriers without being able to change ESN, which Motorola is difficult about. There are some current methods that were made in the last year, but I'm not confident they work %100.
I'm going to miss my physical keyboard as much as the next guy, but a lot of my friends have said that changing to a touch screen keyboard was annoying for a couple weeks and then they could type just as fast. Try forcing yourself to use the touch screen keyboard for a week or two, and see if you get over needing the physical one. That way you don't buy a substandard phone because it's the only one with a physical keyboard.
That being said, I really wish there were more choices with hardware keyboards.

I agree. I used my girlfriend's galaxy S2 for a day. I wanted to kick a puppy. It's awful! With my Epic, I can do something, not look at the screen, and text. I'll be staring at the computer monitor at work while texting and my boss doesn't get mad.
Another 5 row QWERTY
There is another phone coming to Ting, a Sprint MVNO that is less expensive for many people. They do not subbsidize their phones.
I am currently running my Epic 4G on Ting testing their BYOD. Tethering even works won the stock ROM without any hacking!
Ting will soon be offering the LG Mach . https://ting.com/blog/device-update-lets-get-back-at-it/
For those who might be interested in Ting's BYOD, here is the latest update.

I know I am happy to be back on my Epic 4G again. I could barely tolerate the 3 row QWERTY I used when I first moved to Ting.
Get you hands on a note 2 and you'll forget about the keyboards. Big and easy with a 5th row. I'm a huge fan of the physical keyboard. I miss my epic, but don't let it hold you back. You do get use to the screen.
