Just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for hands free messaging while driving. On the stock Mytouch the genius button and dragon dictation did a excellent job with hands free while driving. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good app that works with jelly bean. Thanks in advance.
The stock keyboard should already be able to voice text for hands free. It's works great for me.
EDIT: actually, my bad. I didn't read fully. I don't know if it works the same for jellybean. I'm on sense.

Yes it works for writing voice texts. With the stock Mytouch software if i had driving mode enabled it would read me new texts and emails and ask me if i wanted to respond and than send anything I told it to. Everything worked through voice. Does anyone know of anythign that works the same for jelly bean. (I have not used stock for a very long time so if i a m wrong i apologize but i think i am remembering correctly)

Hi guys,
apologies if this was covered somewhere but I have tried and tried the search function but couldnt get a relevant answer...
I was a Galaxy Tab user and just bought a Motorola Xoom tab this morning, I have realised there is no phone or SMS function in this (MZ601) version unlike the Galaxy Tab...
is there anyway I can achieve this?
please advise..
thanks

I have a Google Voice # and GrooveIP app (one time cost) and can make voice calls also have a way to send/receive texts.
I know there are apps out there but, was wondering if the function could be used from the simcard I already have...

Been reading through and came across an article about android 4.0 icecream cake which would allow dialling but not sure if its deliberate to keep this function disabled on tablets..
Any thoughts?

Desktop SMS (found on XDA) allows for SMS texts. Its dependent however on a working phone and dropbox. I use it on my wireless (non-3G) xoom. Skype works for calls in between skype clients. Thats my 2 cents.

Well, you can both dial and send/receive SMS messages, BUT:
0) you need to modify framework-res.apk
1) the phone app is not usable - you can dial and connect, but you can't hear the other party, as well as the other party can't hear you (tried both BT headset and no-headset)
2) enabling the GSM dialer breaks the Contacts functionality - it gets repalced by broken in-dialer contact management
3) the stock SMS app is missing; you can use either third-party SMS apps (HandcentSMS, GO SMS, etc., but ripped off another device) or modified emulator SMS apk (that is broken anyway; the texts are white [managed to fix that] and contact picking button calls an unsupported anywhere intent); you have to remove the default SMS receiver (yes, XOOM can receive SMS messages in default configuration) to prevent duplicate notifications.
GrooveIP requires a Google Voice number, but other than that you can use the Xoom to dial through GVoice on 3G/LTE or Wifi. I purchased it and have used it but the thing is, if i'm not video calling (Skype / Google Talk) why not just use my phone as it does it better?
For texting what I do use all the time is SyncSMS which was worked on here at XDA and is in the Market now from dolphinking. You have to have a dropbox account configured, but just set it up on your phone and tab and it's seamless texting. I love it.
I got to at least run on the atrix, we just need more people to mess with it and figure out how to get it working fully http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045

yeah thats the problem everyone has been having
I'm surprised there's not more activity on this. Has anybody looked into exactly what it would take to get this working on a non-AOSP build? Or is this just such uncharted territory that we don't know where to start? I'm obviously no dev, but I would assume we'd probably be able to get this working prior to getting an actual Jell Bean build stable on our devices. Hell, I'd buy a beer for the person or people that can get this working!
Got it on my Atrix running CM9. Running nice even without voice search. You can still use your keyboards voice search.

Every time I launch it I get a "Network Settings" error [which doesn't seem to be service effecting(except that it closes the google header and only brings up the text box)], and it won't allow me to use my keyboard's voice input (Stock AOKP keyboard). It will pull up info cards and set reminders and such, but it's not quite as flawless as all the review videos I've seen.
Before I got my Nexus, I used my Droid X as my primary internet browsing device. Now, of course, I use my Nexus for that but I don't have an easy way of sending links or pictures to all my friends (preferably straight to their SMS inboxes). I'm using Google Voice for texting but you can't send pictures. Anyone have any good alternatives? It would be nice to have a hacked stock Messaging app that can utilize your Google Voice number or something but I'm not sure how feasible this is. Also if anyone could assist me in getting calls to work through the Voice app I'd appreciate that too
Check out Tablet Talk in play store. Don't know if u can send pictures though.

So I found this app called tablet talk which is supposed to sync your phone to your tablet via WiFi and it uses your mobile phone number, so you can send text messages and see missed calls, etc. from your tablet..... has anyone used this app, or maybe something similar? If so, how does it work? Is it worth the money? If this is something that works flawlessly, then I can see it is a must-have for a user like me who would love to be able to receive and send text messages from my tablet. Just wanted some opinions on this app, or something similar. So far this is the only app that I have found that can do this.

Brilliant app, I used it all the time before I sent my nexus back. It connects via Bluetooth or wifi, but i always used bluetooth, it was easier to connect. Text messages show up just like they do on your phone, definitely work the money
Just use the free 15 quid credit that came with your nexus.

Yep. Love this app as well. Great for in car as well. Now I don't have to have both my tab and my phone mounted to my windshield. Just my tab and tablet talk....text messages and answering calls (Bluetooth headset of course)

Using it as well, very handy app. Between that and Groove IP, I generally don't mess with my phone when I'm at home.
Just as everybody else has said, it is worth the purchase. I usually throw my phone in my room and carry the N7 around with me when I'm home so it's nice getting texts and calls sent to the N7 that would have been missed.
Funny seeing this post, cause not to long ago i posted looking for an app like this and someone referred it to me....LOVE this App and use it everyday....you can also accept calls if you have a bluetooth headset paired....its awesome and would refer it to anyone looking to basically use theyre phone features on theyre tablet....

Thank you everyone for the replies. I did end up purchasing this app today and have used it quite a bit just for texting so far. Don't own a Bluetooth headset so I probably won't use it for calls, but its definitely convenient to not have to have both my phone and the tablet next to me npw,. I love being able to received my text messages on my tablet. Showed it to a friend and they really want it now too, but the problem is they have an iPad and a Samsung s3, so I don't know if there is an app that is cross-compatible. If anyone knows of one I'm sure they would appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks again everyone

You done need to use a Bluetooth headset unless you are in public. Otherwise you can just put it on speaker phone.

So I installed the 4.4 rom on my XT907 and it works great. Fast and super smooth. The only issue so far is that I can not seem to send pictures in a text. I've tried the stock app. handscent and Verizon messaging. None of them seem to be working. Anyone have any insight on how to work a round this?

Apparently MMS is broken. Nothing we can do about it ATM...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
That's what I was thinking and I know this is very early alpha but to be honest of that is fixed this rom is good enough for a daily driver. I also had a little noise when listening to Pandora One over Bluetooth I haven't had much of a chance to try anything with that this far. However the noise was not there while running the Carbon ROM 4.3 dailies.

There is also no options to change the apn settings. On the 4.4 thread in the general section, someone mentioned that mms works when using the phone w/t-mobile. The rom is also based off of the tmobile moto x. Hopefully someone will figure it out soon.
Ahhhh that makes sense then as I am on Verizon. I'm hoping that someone can get it working. I am very impressed at how well this works so far. Dhacker and the rest really do great work.

in the FWIW department, I don't use stock messaging for sending pics. given that google hangouts has taken over messaging capabilities, I just send pics via hangouts (granted, the other user must have hangouts as well, but since all androids have hangouts and hangouts is available for iPhone, I've just convinced my iPhone friends to get the app).
otherwise, I would normally send pics via e-mail or post them to my picasa web album and send folks a link instead - that way, it won't count against my mobile data.
Stupid question but, where is this Kit kat Thread/ rom?
EDIT: Doh, I found it in General, I was looking in Development. _thanks!
work around for receiving MMS (not sure if sending works) is to download 8sms (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkleft.eightyeightsms.mms&hl=en).
In setting add your phone number and chage MMS port to 80. Dont remember where I read this but it works for receiving MMS
