Hi Everyone
I am currently in the process of putting a Nexus 7 into my car dash as a headunit/stereo replacement... however, once its in, the buttons will not be accessible... Which leave me with the obvious problem, when the tab goes to sleep... how do I wake it back up? Are there any settings/apps that will allow me to wake the device just by touching the screen?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
You can use a magnetic on correct spot of the screen to wake/sleep.
I stills dont own a N7 so cant tells exactly the spot on screen OR any other way to acomplish that

I have the same problem. The way I currently deal with it is I've set the Nexus 7 screen to stay on when charging, and then to turn off after 15 seconds once it is no longer charging. So turning the car on wakes it up, and turning the car off puts it to sleep after 15 seconds.
The "keep screen on while charging" option is under the Developer menu.

Before I go to sleep, I plug my phone into my charger and hit the sack. After ~1-2 minutes without touching it, my phone's screen lights up mysteriously. It does not unlock or do anything special, the screen just turns on. Not a problem right? Just wait ten 10 seconds and the screen will turn back off? NOPE. That sumofabitch stays on forever and the screen does not go back off until I click the side button to do so.
How can I correct this?
Seems to be a little delay between you plugging your charger in and the phone lighting up to show you have put it on charge. As for the screen not going off. Check your sleep setting it maybe a few minutes.
I could not find the sleep setting?
Are there any other suggestions or inputs?
You have to turn on the Developer options to disable this feature.
To do this:
1. Go to settings -> About Phone
2. Scroll down to the bottom where you see "Build Number"
3. Tap the Build Number button 7 times.
This will activate Developer options in your settings. There is an option in there to disable the screen staying on while charging.
That box is unchecked.
I think another issue that correlates with this is when I unplug my phone. When I remove it from the charger in the morning, my phone will still say "Charging" for an hour or so after I unplugged it and used it.
Are you using stock rom and kernel?
Happens to me when I use a regular car charger, which I think it may be defective (the connector part)
Yeah from the sound of it your connector is loose, so randomly your phone will think it has been disconnected and reconnected to the charger. Changing your USB cable should fix it.

Also try changing daydream settings? If you go into display settings, there is a sleep setting.. What is that set to?
Hi everyone,
i had the same problem with my S2, but is there any way to keep the screen from turning on when the battery is fully charged? I understand it's a "feature" to make me unplug the charger, but it's really annoying when the screen turns on in the middle of the night. So far i've been placing the phone face down, so it won't wake me up, but that's not really the solution i'm looking for.

It does turn back off in a few seconds (after the screen times out), right?
Honestly not sure how this little light can wake you up
In any case, did you try some of the apps for the older galaxies, like Battery Silencer?
Another suggestion would be to turn on for the night the Blocking Mode in settings , and configure it to suppress notifications.

In developer options you need to turn off "always awake" or the phone "wakes up" when it has charged.
If you can't see developer options in settings / other, tap build number 7 times and it will appear
Thanks for the quick replies.

My sleep isn't very deep unfortunately... Yeah it dows turn back off after a few seconds, but it still wakes me up.
As far as I understood, those silencer apps and the blocking mode only supress the sound of the notification or do they also keep the screen from turning on?

The "always awake" option is already unticked, but the screen still keeps turning on for the timout period

I have that turned off on my phone, and it still wakes up for a few seconds when it's fully charged. Wakes up when I plug in the charger, too. Neither one is a big deal to me, though.

Ahhh .... must be a "design feature" then
I leave my phone in the computer room overnight (don't use it as an alarm) so I've not noticed.
hi all
like many others iv put my nexus 7 into the dash of my car. i was wondering if there is an app or way for my nexus to turn itself off when i turn the car off. iv figured out how to make the device turn on when power is restored to the device but still not sure how to turn the device off.
also would anyone know why when the nexus turns on, it immediately mutes itself? it is connected via 3.5mm jack 100% of the time and tasker opens up power amp but other then that i don't know what might be causing it. any help is appreciated on both issues
cheers

If you have tasker installed, create a state which is dependant on battery power - as an exit task tell the tablet to wait for 10 seconds, then call the misc->reboot action with type shutdown to turn the tablet off. The wait 10 seconds it to prevent it powering off when you are cranking the car...
If you just want to turn the screen off, not power the whole tablet down, there's a tasker action Display->System Lock which will turn the screen off..
You could also use tasker to change the system volume for you if you needed as a workaround...
*edit* - BTW - the tasker reboot options don't gracefully reboot / shutdown, so if you have apps running, there's a chance that you may lose data. To do a 'graceful' reboot / shutdown, you are better off using the secure setting plugin...
The screen on my wife's S4 from ATT stays on while charging.
If you press the power button, it'll go away for a while but then turns on again.
Disabling 'stay awake' in developer's options does not seem to help.
Is there any other way to keep the screen off?
Is there a danger of burning the screen?
The phone is not rooted.
Restore default settings may help.

Hi, I have had sweep2wake/double tap to wake for a long time now, and I've always had a problem with waking up in the pocket, but there's one thing that is weird. If I leave it in my pocket for too long, the screen will become unresponsive, eg I can press the power button to turn the screen on, but after that I can't use the screen. I have to reboot to get the screen to work again.
Anyone have a problem like this?
i do get that some times.
you can try placing all ten fingers on the screen at one time and then try the touch screen again.
works well for me when my touch screen hangs.

That is a well known issue and we can't do anything for it. you can use a flipcover case and avoid such problem or else sacirfice s2s/d2w feature.
I see, thanks
