Hi all,
I need to remove the Google account from a mt3g running cm6.1
I have been digging for info for days. I'm now dizzy
I bought this phone used, already rooted, & running CM6.1
I just sold the phone and would like to delete all the account info.
settings- acc & sync- remove account, brings up that this account is required by some apps, and must reset phone to factory default under the privacy settings to remove. Tried that.
No joy. account is still there.
When I do the factory data reset, I start with a full charge, and plugged in, but the charge indicator light goes out. The phone hangs on the green my touch screen for 2-3 hours then shuts off. I think the battery just goes dead. I wanted to give it every chance to succeed. When I power up, same 'ol same 'ol. The account is still there and locked in.
The reset did however clear out the contacts and gmail's.
I have uninstalled all downloaded apps. Cleared data in all google apps, and market.
I have added an additional account and then try to remove the original it's still a no go. However I can remove the added account.
I like the cm6 rom and so does the phones new owner so I'd like to keep it.
I'm tempted to try to install the Ginger Yoshi rom, but If I'm going to take the time to figure out the process I'll do it on my current mt3.5jack
If I give up the phone to it's new owner like it is, Tell them to just not sync my personal account, I still have to give them My password for the Market to work.
Feeling pretty vulnerable with that deal
I have bought 2 used my touch's. One rooted and one stock. Neither had any account info on them. Surely this is possible?

I just tried to boot into recovery by holding down the home and power button to turn on the phone.
This took me to the splash screen that is the green "my touch"
screen.
The phone just hangs there. I had to pull the battery to free up the phone.
I waited 10-15 min before pulling the battery. How long should it take?
I also have the option to reboot into recovery from the shutdown menu.
This also just hangs up on the splash screen when it turns back on.
I just tried to power on while pressing the "down" volume button.
From there I had the option to "reset phone".
Just booted ... and no change. The account is still there and I cannot remove it?
Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried getting the phone to boot into recovery for a few hours.
All I can do is get it stuck on the flash screen or normal boot.
I waited 5 min each time I tried to boot into recovery, while stuck on the splash screen.
Do I need to have a sim card in the phone for this ?
I assume there is some glitch in the code causing this? I've been reading up about flashing rom's. I'm worried this glitch may cause a problem with that. I'm a noob, and If Flashing a rom hangs something up, I will end up being a real nuisance here
Loading a zip file from the sd card is no big deal but the radio kernel's and such are bit intimidating. Most of what I have read here seems to be focused towards advanced users.
I really like the cm6.1 rom. I will learn how to load on my personal phone next!
I just need to get this phone to it's new owner.
What is the down side of leaving the google account on this phone, and giving the owner the password. I can create a new google account for myself.
I assume that the new user can just have 2 accounts live on the phone.
They can still use their own account for their contacts and whatnot?
Just my password to get to the market. Will their purchases end up on my bill?

Right now the phone has a radio that is fast compared to stock.
Will that be lost?
The phone has titanium backup, Rom Manager, super user, and super manager loaded on it.

If the recovery is hosed you wouldn't be able to flash Yoshi. Don't leave the account on the phone. Just do what the other Guy said. Reflash the recovery using the ROM Manager app and then wipe data from the recovery menu. No need to overcomplicate everything.

I used rom manager. I selected to "reboot into recovery"
the phone starts to reboot, but get's stuck on the splash screen. Like always.
How long should I wait?
Any thing that I've tried that causes a non-conventional reboot, freezes the phone. I wait 10 min to one hour sometimes. I pull the battery then restart normally, and I'm back to same 'ol same 'ol ?
I just tried rom manager "flash clockworkmod recovery". It gave me a successful pop up.
I then shut down the phone. I held the home button then pressed the red power on button. Now stuck on the splash screen again.
I generally assume the problem is me, however I'm not so sure right now?
If this phone doesn't transform into a brick it will transform into a frisbee

I had to use rom manager to flash recovery. When doing this I was selecting
HTC magic. I started going through every variable.
Yep it was me. One option for recovery was "ION/MyTouch GSM" I was glazing past that one 'cause I saw "ION" and didn't recognize that.

I was trying to re-install stock apps that i deleted in order to get the OTA update, but in the process i accidentally deleted some thing i shouldn't have(no idea what it was). I had previously been running the odex optimized apps and framework by dc13, and after copying the stock apps to the system/app folder i attempted to delete all of the .odex files. this is where i accidentally deleted some thing essential. i rebooted and was face to face with boot loop. been there ever since please help, i dont want to be stuck with an expensive brick!

but how do i reinstall when im stuck in a boot loop? is there some way to execute adb?
Rename the file Update.Zip, put the file on the root folder of your SDcard. Power on the tablet with the volume down button held

A strange thing happened to me, i was working with the tab, and layed it
aside for a while, suddenly it shutted down, and rebooted.
(Not sure where i went wrong, or why this happened,cant remember doin anything out of the ordinairy)
Then i got stuck in this bootloop.
Tried to update, wich goes okee i guess, but after the reboot, i got stuck in a
different boot loop.
Im sure i didnt mess with the standard files that came with the device,
however i have another bootanimation, than stock, could this be causing the "second"
bootloop?
Kinda out of options now, hope you guys can shed more light to this, but i think
i have to return it to Acer for repairs.
Btw: great device anyway!
Just want to let you know that was not the correct update.zip for our Country you make consider going back to the USA rom. Or you will not receive the Correct Updates. If any at all. These are the files and instructions you will need to get back to stock and be able to receive all updates.

Okay so this is what i did as directed by the guys above.
1. Download this file. have to warn you though this service is horribly slow http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ww.filesonic.com/file/958397...pdate.zip.html
2. Put your external SD card into your computer, and copy over the file to the root of the card.
3. Rename the file update.zip(make sure it isn't named update.zip.zip)
4. Put the SD card back it the tab.
5. Make sure your tab is completely shut down.
6. Hold down the volume down button and press the power button.( dont let go of the volume down button till the screen turns on)
7. The recovery will boot and the update should hopefully restore your tab.
8.(optional but recommended) follow these steps in order to revert back to the latest OTA american version so that your able to upgrade to 3.1 when it comes out.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101859

Well sorry that didn't work, i am not to experienced with development for this tab, so im fresh out of ideas. It might help to start a new thread explaining that you tried to un-brick your tab via this method and that a boot loop still occurs. Maybe some super smart devs can help you.

yeah i did that right after i un-bricked it, but thanks for the heads up anyways.
For anyone else who has bootloop problems and finds his/her way to this thread, there is another option. Plug in a USB keyboard, then boot up the tab by holding the power button and volume down (the side closest to the power button) at the same time until text starts appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. Hit the home button on the keyboard, and boom! You are in a recovery screen. Use the keyboard to select factory reset, and your tab is back to the original state. You will lose root and all of your info, but you have your tab working again. There really should be a way to do this without adding a keyboard, but it works fine.

I will post the long version here, mainly because I have nothing better to do.
Here is the situation. I bought a NC about 6 months ago. I rooted it using Auto Nooter. I have no idea what ROM I installed to be honest. I'm very much a novice at this. And I'm quite stupid to boot, I might add. It has worked relatively ok since then. The ROM seemed a bit buggy and I had some initial troubles with constant reboots, in addition to some basic things not working and way bogging the thing down, but in general it was ok. I haven't used it much since unless I was traveling.
Today....I was traveling. Traveling to BFE. As such, I decided to bust out my trusty NC and download a new book while I was waiting for my flight. I did so, and something went a bit haywire. It seems that somehow, without prompting, the device has restored itself to the stock B&N ROM (1.1 maybe?). Yet - the Android OS is still there. For example I can click on my task manager app in the lower left corner of the homescreen and it shows that all of my apps are running and I can even switch to them. But my homescreen is defaulted to the B&N one showing my eBooks and I can't figure out how to get my Android launcher back. I have tried to reboot and it does the Droid boot up but reverts to the same B&N home screen.
I was thinking about trying to update to a new ROM since it had been awhile and I figured there must be something better/more stable out there now - Honeycomb or whatever. I guess this is the kick in the ass that I needed.
So now here I sit in a hotel room in BFE. There are no restaurants open past 9. There are no bars. There IS a Super Wal Mart but I think I'm gonna pass on that.
I figured I would look into this. Where to start? Should I re-set this thing to stock and then just pick a new ROM and re-root? Can I do any of this without having a SD card slot in my laptop - just using a USB cable? Will I lose any eBooks that I downloaded?
I await your sage advice.
rooting actually means gaining super user access to the current android rom. B&N, i believe is Froyo, so you did not install any rom so to speak. you were probably just rooted.
I think the issue is with the launcher and not that it is back to stock. What happens when you long press on the home screen?
If you plan to do anything, you will definitely need an sd card reader.
If you autonootered, then you were running stock, but rooted. With a custom launcher replacing the stock launcher, it sounds like.
At any rate, you were probably hit with the automatic update to B&N 1.2 (which is Android 2.2, iirc.) You almost certainly aren't rooted anymore, but it may allow you to run any apps that you already had downloaded, just from the stock app launcher.
When you get an SD card reader, you can check out Manual Nootering. It's basically the same as the old Auto Nooter, but for B&N 1.2. If you change the rom entirely (install CM7) or just run a different rom from an SD card, you'll avoid having B&N overwrite your root access in the future.
Thanks for the responses. I believe that you are correct. I actually was running 1.0.0. I used auto-nooter to root the thing and had it working with a custom launcher. I don't think it updated to 1.2. In fact I know that it didn't update to 1.2. I am trying to get it to do that right now.
I would like to install a new ROM or root or do something after it updates to 1.2 so that I have access to the Android market. What is my best way to do this? Should I just root again from 1.2? Should I install this CM7?
Can you help me understand the differences? Thanks again.

I went to update to 1.2 from 1.0. I removed my SD card and erased and deregistered device. I booted it back up and it thinks it's a phone. I put the 1.2 file in the root drive via USB, as I have read over and over that the thing should recognize the 1.2 file and reboot itself. It's not working. I erased and deregistered again. same deal.
Any advice?
I'd do a full factory reset, then try the update to 1.2 again.
A couple of things about the 1.2 update -- do not unzip the update file or rename it. Just drop it as-is into the nook. And make sure to eject the nook from your computer and unplug it.

I'd agree with akaCat that you should do a factory reset, BUT you can only do that if you still have the stock recovery utility, and it seems possible that you do not. Try to get the NC to reset by interrupting the boot 8 times. If it doesn't work, you may have installed ClockworkMod Recovery on your Nook Color in place of the stock recovery utility. You may have done so while rooting, or later from the ROM Manager app, perhaps even by accident.
Have you attempted to boot to recovery by holding down "n" while you power on the device, and continuing to hold power + n for about six seconds (1-one-thousand, 2-one-thousand, etc), then releasing both? If so, do you get a factory reset dialog (series of yes/no options) or a longer menu including items like "mounting and storage" and "flash zip from sd card?" If you get the longer menu, then that's ClockworkMod Recovery, and neither the 8-failed-boots-reset nor the automatic update are going to work.
If you do have ClockworkMod Recovery, don't do anything yet. Hopefully somewhere on the screen it tells you the version number, in the format 3.0.x.x. Just let us know that version number and power off the NC.
If you still have the stock recovery utility, then do the factory reset, boot into the stock OS, connect USB, drop the update file straight on the Nook (not in any folders), safely remove the NC from your PC, and let it sit. Hopefully it will reboot itself.
If not, the next step is probably going to involve preparing a bootable ClockworkMod SD and manually installing a CWM-compatible version of the update, or of a different ROM. I'm at 1.2 stock. I was able to reformat and erase my sd card. I went to load the .gz image onto the card (for CM7, per instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957) and I also loaded the nightly build. Then inserted card into NC and booted. Nothing.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Should I unzip either file?
One thing that might/might not matter....when I went to eject the SD card from my PC, I wasn't given that option so I just pulled it.
One more thing.....the instructions at the link above instruct you to "write the image to your SD card" but then go on to say "eject the SD card" and then further "insert the uSD card into your computer"

You can skip the long preamble down to "Ready? Let's get started."
You do need to unzip the disk image, and write it to the SD using a program like Win32DiskImager or WinImage. It's also definitely a good idea to safely eject the SD card from your PC.

I followed this Ana chick's directions and I have CM7 booting up. I am now at the stage where I am trying to boot up in recovery mode so I can get the google apps and wifi thing going. I can't get it to work! I am holding down the "n"/home button and then the power button and it keeps booting up with CM7. I've tried it probably 20 times. Any help? Thanks!
Can someone also tell me how to access the book I just purchased and was in the middle of reading? Do I have to go somewhere and re-download?

I should add that though I can get CM7 to boot, I never get "The Power of Reading". It's just kind of a flash.
That's all normal--verygreen had to make a new uboot, which no longer shows "The Power of Reading" and also flies through a recovery boot so fast you could miss it. If gapps didn't install, just make sure the .zip is still in the boot partition and keep trying. I'm pretty sure holding power > reboot > recovery boot works now from within CM7, but I would go into Settings>Accounts and try to sign in to Google before assuming it didn't install.
If the book was a B&N purchase, once you have the market working, just install the Nook app and sign into your account, and you should be able to re-d/l the book, possibly even still synced to where you left off.

Easier than holding power a sec, poking "Reboot," then "Reboot to Recovery?"
Really, it's about the same either way, depending how handy ROM manager is on your system.
I decided to try and disable my lock screen while bored in class. Forget if I was doing it in CMW or just the normal menu. Now I can't get into my nook because it is locked, but there is no lockbar/password/dots to unlock it. All I have is the bottom bar and my clock showing (I have tried using them). Is there something I am missing to unlock, or do I have to delete something or worse case reinstall everything?
Reboot, and when the cyanogen screen first comes up, press 'n' and hold. It will go to the bootloader menu. Select boot to CWM within the second variable set.
You can restore a back-up at least from right there.

Ok, rebooted, pressed "n" and got the boot menu and here are my 3 things I can do...
1. Boot Device : is on eMMC (internal storage), can also choose SD (removable storage)
2. Boot Mode : is on normal (uImage/uRamdisk), can also choose Recovery (uRecImg/uRecRam), alternate (uAltImg/uAltRam)
3. Boot now
Yeah, it depends on where you have CWM flashed, SD card or internally. I am guessing from your above posts that is flashed to emmc. So in the second set there, set the option to recovery and then select boot now.
The menu works with the hardware keys the same as CWM. You shouldn't have to change the image unless you have a dual-boot and want to try entering a different ROM. If you have flashed CW to emmc, just set it to recovery and leave the rest alone. That will get you to the standard CWM menu.
Ok, I figured how to fix it by accident before I was able to use your advice. Hooked the nook up to my computer to see if I could get my files off before I tried anything, but before I was able to do anything I had to get the kids. Came back and rebooted and when it came on I was in USB mode selection and that allowed me to bypass the security I guess.

P.S. anyone know how to disable the lockscreen lol, using CM7 with ADW
Ha! Just got done getting my kid ready for a doctor visit and came back to see your problem solved. I wish taking care of hum fixed everything else automatically.
Use the settings/cyanogen settings/lockscreen page to disable tour lockscreen, and maybe set a gesture unlock or something just in case you find yourself in this spot again.

I did have a gesture lock, but wanted to disable it since it was annoying and prob wasted some of the battery (even a little savings is good for me).
I'm a bit of a newbie with rooting and flashing but have been pretty successful up until now. I installed TWRP 2.3.6.2 and CM 10.2 on my Verizon LG G2 about a month ago.
Since then I've been updating with nightlies with much success.
When the 11.0 build showed up in the CM updates list I downloaded it and installed. It failed and I had to flash an older 10.2 nightly. My device became pretty unstable after this. Most GApps were gone or somehow corrupted. I re-installed a number of them but Google Play still didn't work.
I tried updating again to an 11.0 nightly today and again it failed. I then flashed a recent 10.2 nightly that had worked for me and now my phone is stuck an infinite spinning Cyanogenmod boot screen.
I have tried every combination of holding power and volume down to try to get into TWRP to try flashing another nightly but my device just continues to reboot to LG then Cyanogenmod spinner over and over.
I decided maybe I needed to reinstall TWRP (looks like there's a new version from today). I tried to access my device with it plugged into my computer using fastboot and adb push loki_flash and it returned "device not found."
I'm totally stuck now... no idea what to do next. Would be so grateful for some guidance on how to get my device functional again.

One additional comment: I've tried doing Power + Volume Down during LG logo but it doesn't do anything.
I managed to get into a Hardware Key Control Mode screen by holding Power + Volume Up + Volume Down which had some options about answering calls or turning off alarm using hardware keys.
Cannot seem to do anything to get to TWRP.
To get to TWRP:
* Hold Power until the phone shuts off
* Hold Power+Volume Down until the LG logo appears
* Release Power+Volume Down then immediately hold them both down again

I somehow just managed to get to a screen that says "Factory hard reset. Permanently Erase User Data & Reset Settings? Press Power key to confirm, and any other key to cancel." It says "Rooted" in the upper left corner.
The screen doesn't respond to Volume Up or Volume Down and I just let it sit there for a few minutes. It reverted back to the infinite CM spinner.
At this point I'm pretty much at a loss for what to do -- and afraid to do anything to mess things up even more.

Thanks for this suggestion -- I'll try to get back to that screen and do this. Also the CM spinner was stuck for 8 hours last night... so definitely not a function of bit of a delay for first install of a custom ROM.

This screen is what you want to see. Push Power a couple of times. It won't erase your settings. It'll boot into TWRP.

Phew, that worked! Back into TWRP.
Any additional guidance on what I should be doing to try to get back into a stable version of CM? I have many builds of CM 10.2 in internal storage that I could pick from. But before I try another one of those should I attempt to clean things up at all? Seems like my current configuration must have some sort of conflict that's leading to all the instability. I do have Titanium Pro installed so I believe I should be able to get my apps + data back as long as I don't completely clean out everything.

I think what I would like to do now is update TWRP to 2.6.3.3 and then install 11.0 using this build: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/lg-g2-development/258385-rom-wip-cyanogenmod-11-g2-vzw.html
Not sure how to update TWRP from 2.6.3.2 to 2.6.3.3 though. When I originally set up TWRP I used adb / loki-push but it's a bit of a blur how that worked since I was just following step 1-2-3 instructions.
Sorry for being such a noob with this stuff. Any additional guidance would be awesome.
As I suspected, flashing any CM ROM now leads to an infinite CM spinner so I think I need a plan B to get my device working again. At least I can now get to TWRP thanks to the help above.
Not sure where to go from here.
Did you try to wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and system? Then install cm. I think this is why you got a bootloop :/

Yup, when I finally got into TWRP I did this and was able to install a version of CM 10.2 that actually loaded.
All my apps and settings are obviously gone now so it's a good time to make the leap to TWRP 2.6.3.3 and CM 11.0. Trying to figure out how to do that now (in the proper forum!):

I htink the wipe would have helped from the beg. Any time you jump roms I suggest doing a wipe. Also one thing you may want to look at is a backup of all your settings and everything, I use titanium and it has helped me out in situations like this in the past.

Thanks, makes a ton of sense.
I also use Titanium to backup. When I do a fresh install of TWRP and CM 11.0 can I restore my system data in addition to apps + app data? I'm not sure to what restoring extent system data could create conflicts with the CM 11.0 build. For example will all the Google Mobile Services system data from my CM 10.2 build create conflicts?
What I really want is to easily bring back ~150 apps + all of my SMS messages, Contacts, Email settings, Homescreen layout and settings, etc. Not exactly sure what's achievable.

You can safely use TB to restore user apps, their data and trebutchets data if you use that. Backing up sms and contacts with TB, I'm not sure about that as I used other app "super sms backup". And about emails I have no idea. Also it's not a good idea to restore settings, better to set them again

I owe you man! Saw the erase data screen and almost freaked out. Pressed power and it booted to TWRP.

You know, I was wondering as well of how to get to TWRP if a rom didn't boot. I got to that screen too and thought it would erase the phone. This is good to know and should be a sticky somewhere.
