I have the n7 installed in the dash of my truck and I want to do 2 things.
First, use my n7 to answer and place calls via my EVO 3d. Use the n7 Mic and speakers. I tried tablet talk but it routes the audio through my EVO. Tried talkatone and google voice but nobody could hear me. And incoming calls don't come through.
Second, is there any way to have an external wired or wireless Mic , while still routing audio through the 3.5mm headphone jack?
Thanks!
Get a bluetooth speakerphone and connect it to your phone. Then use tablet talk to make calls.

That's a good idea, but I want the audio to go through the tablet which us hooked up to my speakers in my car.

But can you make/answer phone calls? I have found plenty of apps that allow you to text but im trying to make phone calls from my N7 but routed through phone using bluetooth
there has to be a way to do this
tablet talk doesn't allow you to actually call with the tablet. it allows you to control calls to and from a bluetooth device. I believe grooveip works pretty well for direct calls but you have to use your Google voice number

Google Voice and click to call
Using Google Voice, which I use for Text messages, and the click to call feature will have your phone ring, once answered the number you called will begin ringing.
Im looking for something that modern day cars can do. You can answer a call through the cars system using bluetooth and can also make calls through your phone but using the cars system to initiate the calls. So the technology is there for the phone and bluetooth but i cant find a tablet app.
Tablet talk initiates.
Youre not going to be able to use the tablet as a blue tooth device to talk through.
Tab initiates call....phone makes the call...you talk on your BT headset.
I just tried free version of Groove IP initiating and receiving Gvoice calls, and it seemed to work just fine. Thanks for the topic! I'd been meaning to figure this out too.
BT mic connected to the tab

I guess I don't know enough about how Tablet Talk functions or how BT works so this may sound really dumb, when you use Tablet Talk does the phone call and mic pic up get routed through the tablet? If so is it possible to connect the tablet to the phone with Tablet Talk AND have a BT mic connected to the Nexus 7? The idea would be for me to be able to have the tablet's output go through my car's AUX in and use the BT mic connected to the tablet for tablet voice commands and as the phone pickup when used with Tablet Talk essentially making the tablet the only thing I have to control in the car while driving.
I'm looking to do the same thing. I just installed a Nexus 7 as my "head" unit replacement in my car. Its great, but now looking at using it as other OEM's do in the car world and simply connect via bluetooth to the Nexus 7 to make and receive phone calls through my cell phone carrier. It does seem obvious this would be an existing app. Lets hope someone is watching and comes up with an app for this!!!

I am looking for a way to do what you just mentioned "connecting android tablet via BT --> DumbPhone which is connected to --> BT headset"
when i press the Call button in my android application it should make a call using the dumbphone .
Do you have any idea whether this is actual possible or not ?
I been using.groove IP works great I have sprint so Google voice is integrated with my sprint number so when I get calls it goes to my nexus 7 and I answer and make calls with it get text there to

I don't think the Nexus will support headsets with microphone, I treid ujsing my Sony headset with mic, also an older HTC set, although, they worked fine as headphones, no audio from microphone.
So, I suspect, the Nexus will not support these type of headsets............

Hi, all-
I'm trying to use my Motorola H720 mono bluetooth earpiece with my new Nexus 7. Specifically, I want to use it to handle all "phone-like" communications, such as G+ hangouts, Skype calls and GTalk.
The H720 pairs with the Nexus 7, which reports it's connected to "Phone Audio"... though the N7 doesn't actually have a phone function. As a result, all my audio for hangouts and Skype calls still gets routed to/from the N7's built-in mic and speaker.
Is there a way to make the H720 available system-wide on the N7, or at least use it in the apps I mentioned?
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed!

I have a similar need to use bluetooth mic with Skype. I can hear the audio through my Jabra BT8040 but Skype still uses the built in mic on the Nexus 7 and doesn't seem to offer an option to select a different mic.
So you're having only slightly more luck than I am. With Skype, when I switch it to bluetooth (vs. internal mic/speaker), it switches back, as if to say there's no usable bluetooth device available, even though mine is paired and connected to "phone audio".
So maybe our earpieces are only designed to work on "phone audio", and not other media... and on my phone (a Motorola Droid 2), the Skype app is able to use such a device, but on the Nexus 7 it can't. I've seen apps in the Play store that supposedly let you use mono Bluetooth earpieces like ours for any kind of audio media, which should fix this problem, if they work... which is a big "if".
In any case, I'm off to search for a bluetooth device that *will* work in this capacity on a Nexus 7. I didn't think it would be such a rare use case... bluetooth earpiece for Skype and other audio/video chats. Who knew?
If anybody can relay any experience with a particular earpiece that works for this, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks,
-Mark

Further research...
I just found a post in Google's "google-plus-discuss" forum, which this forum is preventing me from linking to until I hit post #10... it seems G+ isn't working with bluetooth devices at all (or at least it wasn't at the time of the above forum discussion). Apparently, bluetooth earpieces are working with GTalk, but I haven't been able to try that yet.
On a Nexus 7, having no bluetooth ability in G+ hangouts is a problem, because the built-in speaker is too quiet for me to hear the voices of people I connect with. Such is the nature of chat, with heads moving in and out of the pickup range of the mics. If the Nexus 7's built-in speaker were maybe 6dB louder, I'd stand a chance of hearing people, and wouldn't need a bluetooth earpiece to work... but as it is, it's too quiet.
It should work right since it is possible with the headphones that come with the iPhone. I know this is completely different since one is a car and the other is earplugs, but it should be possible right? Instead of using the nexus 4 speakers on calls I can use the car speakers. And use the phone's built in mic to talk. I appreciate your input dearly and thanks for any input!
Yes, that's exactly how it works. If your phone is still plugged in when you answer the phone call, the audio will come out of your car's speakers.
I can confirm as well. It works well and I leave my phone in the cup holder while on a call and people hear me just fine. No one has complained about hearing themselves either.
