Google Sync - One Way - Galaxy S III General

My dear friends,
Since when i bought my Galaxy S3 i google sync contacts with no problem between all my devices but from today morning i noticed one surprising problem i.e when i create a new contact on say the Galaxy S3 and another on my iPhone 4 and when i sync they all appear on both devices but when i DELETE both ways that of the Android remains and does not delete, which means i have to manually delete it on Galaxy. Please help and thanks.

There's likely to be an issue on the iPhone. It's not removing it from your gmail account. Check your settings.

No i do not think because when i check my google contacts on my computer it has been deleted!

Check that all contacts on the phone have a G symbol on them. When creating a contact on the phone, be sure it is a Google contact and that you are not creating a contact on the phone only.

Thanks but in creating new contact sometime "G" symbol is not available.

Then you need to change the default setting by clearing the defaults of the contacts app in settings, applications, all
You HAVE to have the G for sync to work.
Export all your contacts to sdcard and use that file on your desktop and import it Google Contacts. Use the merge duplicates after importing.

[Q] contacts messed up

Hey guys
I am currently running stock froyo on my legend. for some reason, sync with gmail is acting weird. not all number from the same contacts are syncing. for example 1 contact has 3 numbers on my phone and only 2 show up on gmail.
I also have encountered lately another problem: my country code is +961, some of the contacts numbers that start with +961 currently show 1961 instead. i m not sure of the origin of this problem.
Any help would be much appreciated
Go on a computer, login to gmail, go in where all your contacts are and choose remove all duplicates and all should be fine ;-)
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
thats not it man. i have no duplicates. I use gmail at work so my contacts are nice and tidy. no duplicates
Aha I see. Hmmmm.
I had something like that a while ago. I had to fix that **** manually. :-/
After looking further into the problem, it turns out that those numbers with the wrong code are imported from facebook. Those numbers cannot be edited.
I turned off facebook sync yet the stupid numbers remain there.
Any ideas?

Does it happen via data or WiFi?
Or both?
Did u verify that they didn't sync by going to desktop site to actually see if they didn't actually sync?
Is it all Google accounts, or just certain ones....
contacts, gmail, voice, pictures, books... etc?
Worse case, sign out and resign in to see if helps

From time to time I have problems with contacts not displaying the pictures and/or numbers etc.
I clear the data for the "Contacts Storage" in Apps and then re-sync. Maybe you could try that and see what happens - Just make sure that you can correctly see your contacts in Gmail on your PC or laptop first and they are backed up!

This sync error occurs both for mobile data and Wifi.
And the sync errors only for contacts. Gmail, browser, photos, and calendar successfully synchronized.
I have tried to sign out then sign in again, but not works, still unable to sync for contacts.
Thanks anyway.

maybe your contac database at gmail was corrupted make another gmail account and copy your contacts to the new gmail and try your phone with the new gmail to sync.
I seem to be seeing after looking that I have the same issue. So I did a couple things like signing in and out and that didn't work. I backed up my contacts and deleted my contacts and that didn't work. However I did find something that works.
1. Export your contacts to SD card so you don't lose anything.
2. Go to Settings and find your Google Account and uncheck Contacts to sync.
3. Go to Settings/Apps slide over to all apps.
4. Go down to Contacts. Force stop and clear data.
5. Go to Contact Storage. Force stop and clear data.
6. Go back to your Google Account and recheck Contacts to sync.
At that point you should notice it takes a few seconds longer to sync but when finished showed it completed. If you lose any contacts actually in the Gmail remember you exported your contacts so you still have them.
To export contacts:
Go to Contacts, hit Menu, then click Import/Export and save to SD card.
I recommend exporting contacts on a reasonable basis anyhow uncase anything happens to the phone and/or Gmail so you still have a hard copy on your SD card. You can never be to sure.
I hope this helps and remember to thank me by clicking the thanks.
Edit: I'm also finding if you are running HaxSync that the problem happens more. May be a bug.
Great alternative to HaxSync is Facebook Contact Sync. Link Below:

Another great alternative to HaxSync is Facebook Contact Sync. I will update my above post with the Play Store link.
It happened for me also with Haxsync when I used the upload pics back to Google option. I unselected it, readded the Google account and it was fine again.

I can say without a doubt that HaxSync causes this problem. 3 phones now this has happened with and I can reproduce it.

[Q] How did Google get this info

Ok, so I got a new Nexus 4 and started it.
It asked me for my gmail account which I entered. However after the initial setup was completed I was shocked to find my phonebook contacts exactly the same as my old phone on my Nexus 4.
Does anyone know how did Google get hold of my phone contacts ?
Few things:
- The contacts I see on the phone are not gmail contacts. I have 400+ gmail contacts. The contacts I automatically got on the phone were the exact contacts in my previous Android phone (HTC HD2 rooted with ICS CM Nexus ROM)
- In my old phone I never synched contacts. I always had mail checked in sync settings. Calendar, contacts etc were not checked.
- I also own a Nexus 7 tab and that does not have any setting to store contacts.
- When I ordered the phone I selected the option to not link it to any google account.
Any idea ?
Well, phone contacts have been synced to your Google account for a long time now. You must have synced them at least once on your old phone.
Must have synced to your account before you turned off contacts sync.
It's possible that they're saved on your SIM Card.

While that is certainly a possibility but I am skeptical of that because
- As a practice I never sync anything except EMAIL on my gmail, hotmail, yahoo accounts. everything else is unchecked.
- My phone contacts are not synced with hotmail or yahoo but appear to be only on gmail even though I had the same settings across all accounts.
- There are contacts I have on my gmail which I didnt have on my previous phone. These are not present on the new Nexus 4.
you probably synced it on ur old phone when u flashed ics, since default is to sync when you got ur contacts back on ur old phone it probably didnt automatically
google didnt "steal" your info or anything unless you think of what they do with info as stealing
contact sync is actually awesome and really helpful, i wouldnt see this as a bad thing if i were u but everyone has their own opinions
thanks for the replies so far.
While I agree it is a good feature to have, but I use a third party app to achieve this or do export to SD and then import from SD to back up contacts.

Just use Google contacts, and unless you're some kind of super spy or something and foreign governments are hacking your contacts because everyone you know is so important.

When you initially setup an android phone it asks you if you want to backup and sync your data with Google's servers and you've must have done this before in the past. I also think contact sync is set to on by default its in settings>accounts>google>[email protected] I actually like the feature as all my apps and contacts are automatically downloaded to a new phone right at the start.

[Q] having issues getting all my contacts from evo3d to gs4

Hey guys, having a stupid issue here, I have SOME of my contacts from my evo3d that are not syncing with google, Most of my contacts synced and loaded to my new GS4, but not all of them, and it is not like it is just my most recent additions, just some random ones. I have had this happen before so i tried exporting all contacts to a .vcf and then importing all of them on the GS4... still some of them are not transfering, any ideas???
Are those contacts having some unusual characters in names or any other contact field, like ä, á, ă, š, ş and so on?
Btw, why don't you use the new Samsung tool to move data from your old phone to the new one?

nope no weird characters... the tool wont work since the usb on my old evo3d is going out
You can try exporting them to an SD card. ( In contacts > import/export > to SD ).
Or try doing it on Gmail directly by uploading the file to gmail once you export it to the SD.
If you tried these and it didnt work, make sure your contact settings is set to display all acounts or sources. ( Contacts > Menu > Contacts to display )

I always forget to change the location before save.
Can i change the default location?
I remember that my old se arc can change it.
I'm pretty sure it asks you where you want to save when you enter a new contact.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.
Not even sure why there is am option. Bugs me you can save stuff to the"phone" when it should be automatically saved to Google.

Ii always forget to change this setting when add new contact.
I don't have that problem. I only display my Google contacts and untick the other options. When I enter a number and save it, it automatically saves it to Google. :sly:

FWIW, it is my preference to exchange all email via an alternative mail server, for privacy and security.
My Gmail account does not exist on my phone, so there would not be a reason (for me) to use anything other than phone contacts, calendars, etc., bypassing Google altogether.

Yes I was having this problem saving new contacts. I thought it was a problem with root or my clean rom install them realized my contacts were saving to att phone book and new entries would not sync so I was entering the same contacts in practically every day. Had a duh moment them switched to my Google account to store my contacts.
