Hi Guys,
XDA is blessed with a multitude of talented developers and is truly a gold mine of information which makes it the universal Android temple of knowledge (wow, I’m about to cry.) This said, the knowledge is sometimes hard to find in the enormous amount of posts written everyday (not really, just use the search engine. Nah, that‘s too easy). Anyway I decided to find some helpful guides and tutorial and put them all in the same thread (I’m sure it was done before but…)
NOTE: This is a work in progress. It is actually a first draft. Honestly, after reading some of those guides I realized I don’t have the knowledge or competence to say if they are good or not. So I choose the one written by recognized developers and/or the one directly related to the Galaxy S3. I’m really counting on some of you to help me find more useful guides and to tell me if some should be removed. Some guides come from other phones thread and some are a bit dated but I think they are still useful. (You tell me)
WARNING: These guides contain words and sentences that can clog ignorance and induce brain cells stimulation. Some side effects including an augmentation of the knowledge (quickly followed by an iritation of the noob), happiness, strong desire to test new ROMs and compulsive phone flashing might occur. If these side effects persist I suggest to click my thank button, build a new ROM and write your own guide. Read at your own risk.

Your post would be better merged as we are getting multiple how to posts that are not stickied and will get lost in the system .
Or at least ask a mod to put it as a sticky .

too bad there isn't any guide to tweaking your phone for longer battery life

I'm just trying to help. If the best way to help is to merge, let's merge (if Tiger agree). Anyway the post is still available here. (for the moment)
We certainly need better information for noobs etc .
Just like the guide for SGS2 below .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125282
However as 99% of those who should read a guide first refused to why should anyone bother .
Its easier to ask the same question that was asked an hour ago than to actually read and learn .
jje
This seems to be my sad conclusion.

Unfortunately, yep
Because XDA has got so big, and the android community seems to be full of pre-pubescant teens who 'want that fix now', or 'want that answer now'...you will never be able to get them to read a guide like this, no matter how detailed or informative
Good luck though, i like the effort you made
sadly it has been tried time and time again, although I'm quite in to contributing to a communal effort to produce something really concise, well laid out, and comprehensible, that can be worked on to make it really easy to use. Then seek approval for a sticky

Ah so, this is "THE TRUTH"? ha ha ha (inside joke)
Anyone knows why there is no GUIDE forum? You know we could have
GENERAL
GUIDES
Q&A
ANDROID DEVELOPPEMENT
ETC...
It seems such an obvious thing to do I wonder why we don't have that. Now we have a lots of good guides lost in a pile of post. Very hard to find sometimes.

There is a FAQ thread for this exact purpose. Besides, using the search function is good for the soul.
Hi there. I have a Galaxy Tab that I use strictly for testing some websites. I bought it without any kind of data plan or anything from AT&T - strictly wifi. In the rest of my life I'm mostly an iOS user, so I'm not familiar with the inner voodoo of Android at all.
I just want to update my Galaxy Tab from 2.2 to 2.3. Googling "how to update galaxy tab to 2.3" yields all kinds of insanity about flashing and rooting. I don't even know what this stuff means.
I'll appreciate any patient, step-by-step advice to get me down the road a bit. Appreciate the help in advance.
Dl and flash overcome. Follow instructions in the thread
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
Start by reading the sticky threads in each section....
Then head into the development section and find a ROM that is appropriate for your version of tab.
Follow the instructions in the thread.
Profit??
Any questions, please search thouroughly using as descriptive a query as possible, google is your friend, xda search is a tempremental beast.
If you still cant find an answer, head over to the Q&A section....
Good luck & Happy flashing.

Hello,
I have tried the above tutorial a few times and am getting stuck at the step you enter the CPUID. Upon entering my ID it comes back and states CPU ID is bad format. I am not including the 0x and just using my serial number. Any ideas? Thank you.

ATGadmin aka KJY2010 .
Offcorse you gonna deny this but I know better , already got confirmation on that .
Are you gonna link every post you do to AndroidTabletGeeks ?
I've been on your personal ignore list a while I think , not answering e-mail and skype.
Thanks for that , still got to figure out why but hé if that makes you happy !
Have a good one !
I appreciate that you and MD are trying to get your site off the ground, but why not share the information here and include the link to the OP. The picture guide is probably very useful to people and would benefit everyone to have it in both locations.
This looks like you are trying to poach people away. I know that may not be your intent, but the motives could appear suspect to some.
Also, there is a guide, without pictures, over in the developer section - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012

Not our intent at all.
If you check the "time stamps" on both posts (the one I posted at ATG, as well as the one you posted) you'll see that the post at ATG (not the post I made here) was done hours before the post at XDA.
Having just been through the nightmare involved with having to revert from the ICS leak, finding my way back to a rooted ROM, and finding mostly hostile remarks directed at those that couldn't figure it out for themselves over in the DEV forum, we came up with a very clear, concise, and explicit TUT on how to get back to a rooted ROM, complete with ALL files needed to do so over at ATG.
As far as the "appearance of being suspect" goes, that's one of the reasons we started our own "community", and not just a mere forum.
While we literally just launched the site mere days ago, and don't have many members as of yet, those that have joined have already made remarks attesting to this fact. Most if not all of our members are members of several forums, some including XDA. No reason to "poach", as we're just giving people alternatives to finding information about things that we all share the same passion for..."All things Android Tablet Related".
Just wanted to clear up why, and when this post was made.
ty
Exactly, since we already have on XDA those informations http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012 , this thread is now closed.

I read a lot, and found a post I wanted to thank him in the topic of my ROM. I registered just to find out, that you need at least 1 Post to thank. Ok, no problem. The last post was someone asking a question I could answer anyways. So i clicked on reply...
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.

I can understand that, I just wanted to point that out (and do my first post to do thanks ).
It would be cool to have another possibilty. Maybe a quiz or something like that to test qualifications.

Well, I finding a bit difficult to understand your thread...I don’t see point of unlocking the Dev area unless you are in the field. As far as I am concern the dev area will not give me much, especially with the silly questions I am still to ask.
"...to test qualifications..." what is the point? Many like me turn to XDA to find an answer to a problem and likely will to have the knowledge to stand an examination.
To finalize, my idea with the thread was to provide some information, there are plenty of people going under with their phones due to stupid mistakes.
People stuffing the forum with “spam” threads should check themselves, do a full wipe and then reboot…if you know what I mean.
one additional suggestion: "[GUIDE] How to Flash ICS and Survive"
This is what I said:

This is what really happened:
I registered [because i wanted to thank a post]. I logged in (after email confirmation) and searched for the thank button, but couldn't find it. So i went to google picture search, typed in "xda thank button" (there is always at least one person making a screenshot and a arrow on it) and found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590190
and on page 2:
It works now - seems that one at least needs one post before "Thanks" is unlocked.
So...nothing for quiet readers like me

Why should I have made a new topic about it?
I usually search first at google, than xda (because of localisation) and when I still haven't found an answer there have already 3 hours passed and I might really have a problem/question noone else ever had before.
Forums are no chat. Every Question and their answers will be saved. Asking a question again and waiting for answers takes usually much longer than just google it.
Just as example the first Post in Q&A of the Note:
