Hello Community !
Need some advice on an idea that I have been pondering over for many days.
What I would like to do is split current setup into 2 mirrors.
1 @ US
1 @ EU
And file downloads will be directed to correct server as per users IP address geolocation. Should give much better load distribution and speeds for downloads.
Please speak your thoughts
Apr 13 Update : Well, I listened to majority who voted. EU AND US both mirrors !!
What about Asia?
Sorry Asia bandwidth costs are off the charts ! No provider giving decent amount of bandwidth in my monthly range !
Nobody voted for US only...what do people have against US ?
US mirror coming online in 24 hours !

i decided to support the peoples who made haret/linux/android possible.
android is working very well on all of our hd2's because of the work/time this people spent working on the bootloader and fixes.
i am the driving force behind this donation task (not dcordes or anyone else). this thread is my contribution to their awesome work.
THANKS TO Cotulla/dcordes/NetRipper/Markinus/LeTama
(all donations will be shared between this awesome contributors)
collected qoutes of the devs can be found in post 2 now for better transparency/visibility.
as you may know, we collected 1350 dollars within 14 hours (for da_g, wp7 donation fund).
remember: this donation was just to get hardware (hd2/jtag device etc) to work on the WP7-HD2-port (wich is still going on).
HARET/LINUX/ANDROID is nearly fully working on our HD2's RIGHT NOW.
THIS FUND IS TO THANK THEM FOR THE WORK THAT IS ALREADY DONE BY THE DEVS.

hi,
yes we were talking about it via private message.
I applaud hd2owner's approach and he has my full support for this.
I should add - some of you who were following the entire development process might have seen it - that i criticized this user before.
Back then it was about setting up a bounty thread for functional linux (android) on the hd2. I disliked it for several reasons, one being that i don't like being rewarded for work that has not been performed yet.
For me personally i think many have seen that i have been sticking with this from day one and i will not have a bad feeling about receiving something back for this.
So that way around, doing it as a reward instead of bounty fund it's all good and i am looking forward for this to work.
Also regarding the fact that i'm a student and do not have time to earn much money at the moment i will not have a bad conscience in participating.
A short word to those who have a hard time putting trust in this: If everybody will post the transaction id and amount donated here on the thread we will have full transparency.
This must be clarified more in the first post.
My personal suggestion is to approach the following other xda members who have substantially participated in the working linux on hd2 and ask them about joining.
We should share the reached cash money among us equally. Of course they have to agree.
Netripper, markinus, letama, cotulla.
Best regards and thanks again to hd2owner for getting this started and thanks to everybody willing to support.

just letting you guys know that i support this thread as well. I quoted the above part of dcordes, as i feel the same way. I appreciate donations, but only for work that has already made you guys happy. Donations for things yet to develop only makes it more like a job than a hobby.
i hope the other devs feel the same way.

i fully agree with what netripper said. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot during the development of the kernel, and it has always been my main motivation.
I will for sure appreciate donations even though my contribution can't be compared to what cotulla did. It should be clear that we wouldn't have what we have now without him.
I wanted also to apologize for not being more active on the forum but kernel hacking is an awful time sink and days are always too short.

hi great idea was thinking of doing this myself for them.1 thing tho I think we will receive more donations if people see a reply in this thread from dcords and cotulla ect so everybody knows your not taking the money yourself. Not saying you are just think we will get more donations this way.
thanks
Jamie

Why not just pay them direct?

Because then only cotulla and dcordes will get donations as there the only people you tend to hear about and there are a lot of people working on this project

1)what if dcordes and cotulla didn't reply to this thread?
2)if we donate directly to developers without any thrid parties,it'll eliminate every single suspect, such as who took the money?????
Maybe I'm wrong...
dcordes will show up for sure....
since i would actually see the amount in real-time on my account instead of having to wait for people to reply in this thread after donating and to rely on "the amount of money donated" of another person (donation link owner).
do you guys really think i would perform a stunt (and destroy my reputation here).....??? for 1500 dollars????

If there was no proof of a conversation between the OP and dcordes I wouldn't be contibuting so I agree with you but people need to realise that there are more than one or two people working on this. It isn't fair that some developers recieve a high percentage of donations over others which as putting in the same amount of time. If we can provide proof that all developers involved will get contribution then I don't see a problem and see this as a great idea.
we can perform a second donation round (no record time donation) for people who are angry (working on the subject).
every one of the co-workers will be happy... if not... he will be after round 2...
EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR COUNTS.
and i'm pretty sure some folks out there who are willing to donate don't see this now and want to donate later (after goal is reached).

Hopefully we can acheive the $1500 quickly I will be donating when the link goes up even tho you are well respected I think when dcordes posts to agree he has spoke to you about this then the donations will hopefully come flooding in
I am sorry, but until we further review this "project", I cannot allow "Donations" threads like these. Dcordes, Cotulla, and the rest all have "Donation" links in their signatures. The Da_G fund was different as the OP of that thread had linked directly to Da_G's Paypal. In this one, you are linking to some "other" Paypal account, which you claim will use to collect and distribute the funds.
I don't want to seem totalitarian or anything like that, but I am trying to protect people from possible scams. While I am sure that you are not a scammer, your "reputation" only goes back to October 2009, which means that you've been around for a little shy of a year. We will discuss this further with other Senior mods and admins and will reach a verdict soon.
Thanks for your patience.
@OP,
I will reopen the thread as per your request. My only condition is for the HD2 Android dev team members (beneficiaries in this case) to make a post in here acknowledging the veracity of this money drive.
As I said above, sorry for not trusting this up front, but I need to ensure that good will donations from our members are going to the right place.
safety first.. hehe...
btw: i'm also known as x1owner here since march 2009.
There was another thing called "chipin" for such kind of donations/fund-raiser.
Might worth a shot to check it out.
My suggestion:
Post donate links to all the developers/people who contribute to the whole project.
Then people can see who they donate to and choose from that.

thanks for your official statement.
can you please send those members a p.m. about this thread?
a official statement of all those people would be great.
i will guarantee full transparency.
every single donation will be in the list (1st post) until the goal is reached.
every donation that's flowing in after the goal is reached will be added to the second round (without the record-time-attempt).
If we get all the devs involved in this I think it will work well... only 3 devs have their donation links posted, and when people donate they generally will just donate to one person (and many times it will be a chef instead of one of the actual devs, who I believe should be donated to first.) , this way people can make one donation and it will be divided to all the devs who deserve donations.
I hope it all works out and we get all the devs participation.
