I read about different GB Kernel Versions for CMX.
Sombody in the Dev. thread wrote, that he has the 2.6.32.9-g7110803
Tezets Version is: 2.6.32.9-g5db7937
And the Stock GB Version is: 2.6.32.9-g7d2667a
1. Can somebody tell me, what is the difference between all this GB Kernels?
2. Can you edit the Kernel from our MS2 because of the closed Bootloader?
Thanks for helping me to understand....

1. None, the numbers differ because they are from different editions compiled for different carriers and regions by moto.
2. Yep, our only hope is the 2ndboot method, currently in development.

Thanks for the quick answer.
Do you develope this 2ndboot method, or who does it? What will this exactly do?
...sorry for my curiosity, but I just want to understand and learn....

When it's done, we'll be able to boot our own custom kernels right from the moto kernel, using it like a "fat bootloader".
Right now it's unstable, only for devs, but it gaining color very fast...

as you all probably know paul-xxx released an ICS rom for our X8 which is apparently based on CM9 (correct me if i am wrong). however it has a lot of problems like WiFi, Camera etc. it also has kernel compatibility issues like gsm working on nAa kernel but not on alfs kernel and so on (again correct me if i am wrong). so i have decided that i will set about the task of building a compatible kernel for this rom. however that is not possible alone by me. i need the help of expert devs on X8. so let's start, shall we?
i can only can help you in testing , sorry im not an expert, i hope some people help you to compile the kernel !!!!
sorry my bad english !!
as i say any help is greatly appreciated. and could you ask other devs you know to help me out? thanks in advance.
I know that FXP is already doing something for MSM7227 for ICS
It is in their Git, maybe they are planing to port ICS to X10Mini/X10MiniPro/X8, or help on that.
I cant help because I am using W8 and I cannot unlock bootloader. I am sorry but I will help support you guys...
Hit the THANKS button if I helped!!

i have a question. in fact 2 questions.
1. can i use this guide to compile a kernel using this source except for the fact that the source will be different (in this case the ICS kernel source that you referred me to)?
2. since FXP kernel has compatibility issues with some roms, will a kernel using their ICS source be compatible with paul's ICS?
hope to see reply soon.

what makes you think so?
msm7x27:initial fork [freexperia]
i think this means that they forked the "base" kernel for Msm7x27, so it must be complete.
@souljaboy11792 If you botherd to look at FXP ICS source you will see it's only for es209ra (X10).You can't build this for X8 witout a lot of changes. And what's the point of this thread when you know nothing about kernel building.(Don't mean to be rude)

Hi all I will be working this a little. But don't expect anything to great. I don't have a whole lot of time to work on this. I bricked my phone and not having much luck getting it replaced. So I won't be working on this to much until I can get a new phone as I will be spending all my time working.
Most stuff posted here is probably gonna be untested.
I will be posting cm7, cm9, and cm10 builds here.
Idk if any of these work.
Don't get mad at me if they brick your device. Infact treat them with a high chance of brickage, unless otherwise noted.

"unofficial" is beta version that has some problem, "official" is perfect version that has no problem.

I understand theres not much of a point to this. The main reason for this thread is cm10 as all the other cm10 roms don't have the stock cm kernel. But since I build the other ones anyways i figured I'd post them. And I'll post install instructions.

You'll likely receive a lot of flak over re-hosting/posting stuff as you've seen thus far, but if you're offering something you've re-worked in any way(which is what I understand you're doing) then I'd stick with just that and link to other threads in your OP if necessary.
If you compiled from CM10 source here we have CM10 kernel for Captivate (no datadata partition).
This is very interesting.
Thank you very much: if compiling went well this is really an important step for JB on Cappy and now we can run also official Pawitp builds.

U are on GB? Rooted?
Ok now go to pink screen and connect to PC. If you can change the files inside IMAGE folder,Then your bootloader is already unlocked.
If you are On ICS B927/B928 then you will have to unlock bootloader i.e the pink screen to see the IMAGE folder contents which gives access to changing recovery.img and the boot.img(which many users consider as the kernel, but is not).
Many GB roms also come with locked bootloaders,to unlock then you have to flash another official GB like B521 to unlock the bootloader.

Hmmm.. How would I unlock the boot loader on ICS? And between gingerbread stock and ICS stock which one would you prefer? And why?

If you play a lot of hardcore games. Then stay in GB. If you like newer android versions then move to ics. Ics base is more ram consuming.
