Hi everyone,
I just Had an Idea on how to Semi-Dual Boot Any two roms.
The idea is based on backing up (Nandroid Backup) current ROM and Restoring The Other ROM Backup And When You want to go back it does the same but at the second time before Backing Up ROM(Nandroid Backup) The old backup is deleted so the idea needs about 1.5-2 GB..
It can Be Done Manually but if someone could create an app or a script which can do the whole process it would be way easier...
At The end it's only idea I wish some developer Gets Interested in it and get it in action...
Please Leave A comment of what You Think.
Every Simple idea. Makes a GeniusWork.
Gokhanmoral is already working on dual boot and hopefully we can see it soon. Btw its not that easy/efficient like the way you mentioned

I have searched for this answer but my question:
After alll the modifications and personalisations have been made to the HD2 have been made is there a way to back it up and then restore it to the last point of modification? (so that wat if a restore is needed it can be restored without having to re-do every single modification?)
Thanks

Hey! I'm a little new to the rooting and such on a
Android phone but yesterday I rooted and
installed Fresh Rom 1.1 on my Sprint Hero, and I
was wondering where is a good website to
download themes for this Rom? And if there is
any tips/cool things/ ect. ect. that you can do
with a rooted phone tell me please. Cause I'm a
noob as I said. . Thanks

best advice I can give is read the how to WIKI's BEFORE doing anything else. ALWAYS read the first post of any rom that you want to try then re-read it just to make sure you understand if there are any problems and or fixes. also ALWAYS make a nandroid BEFORE you change anything with your phone. after all that just watch the boards and check out all the cool stuff.
edit: and I forgot the search button is in the upper right of the screen and will save you a lot of grief from the flamers
Thanks dood.
I just rooted mine, too and all I can say is read read read read. Try different things you're cmfortable with, and just enjoy how much better it is rooted.

I am bad about messing with stuff and not having one. Shame on me.

Do you nandroid after changing anything? I did it as soon as I got root last night, but now I have loaded a custom rom and am thinking about adding mods and themes... should I nandroid every time I put a new rom on or is the very first nandroid sufficient?

Did you use fresh kitchen? I would make sure your recovery console is 1.6.2 as you can pick which nandroid you want to restore. Just nandroid before flashing a ROM or a Theme, so you can revert back to what you had before if something is not working.
The first nandroid you have should be the one with the stock ROM+root. I would take this and save it on your computer so you always have it.
I'd say that you should make a backup copy every time you change anything significant, or anything you do while booting in recovery.
Its probably not necessary to do it as often as I do, but I figure a few extra minutes of waiting for it to finish is worth not having the frustration of not being able to revert to a past state if something screwy happens.

I used the 'static wiki page how-to' for getting everything done, I think they supplied a link to this one: recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img, which I guess is outdated... I'll look for the 1.6.2 version instead. You are correct, my first nandroid is the stock + root and I did save this to my computer, but I haven't nandroided since then because I didn't think I needed to. I think I will nandroid again now that I am on 2.1 ROM and then nandroid whenever I mess around with the recovery / new ROMS. Thanks guys.
For the 1.6.2, do I just repeat the sticky how-to for installing this recovery? I don't want to mess anything up since I already have the 1.5.2 recovery installed. Will it just overwrite?
Hi there,
I have a question on backing up Nandroid. If I backup Nandroid let's say now, is it recommended to back it up again next time? Or every once in a while? What I'm planning to do is backup Nandroid every month. Is there any need for that at all or just one backup is fine? Thanks for the help.
There is no need to do a backup every month. Just do it when you are upgrading/changing to a different ROM or you're customizing something like flashing a new boot screen. If you do not have the intention to do such things then there is no point in doing a backup.
I see, thanks.
Hi
As you've prob guessed I'm a noob, hence the help.
Ive just recently rooted and unlocked my nexus 7 with wugfresh 1.6.2 and am now looking at putting a custom rom on it.
Ive followed the advice and put titanium backup on and backed up my apps and system data.
Having read the instructions for installing Smooth Rom 4.4, it states 'Please do not restore a 'system' data backup as it would overwritte some important files'
does this mean I cannot restore my apps from titanium backup as I cant restore system data as they where backed up together or is there some other way for me to do it ?
does titanium backup get wiped as well ?
All Help appreciated, this is my first rom install and I dont wanna **** it up.

The most important thing to do is to make a FULL nandroid backup before you begin.
The 2nd most important thing to do is to get that backup copied someplace else besides the tablet. (PC, USB key, etc) Screw-ups involving accidental erasure of the psuedo- SD card area on the tablet are commonplace with folks that are new to this. It won't do you any good to make a backup if you immediately erase it while fooling around with a custom recovery (or toolkit) that is new to you.
I suggest you learn to make backups using the custom recovery rather than relying on a toolkit.
If you are happy with the tablet in it's current configuration, then a back-up allows you to survive any ****-ups that inevitably follow as you can return back to a known state and proceed again having learned from your mistakes.
FULL NANDROID BACKUPS. COPIED SOMEPLACE SAFE (OFF THE TABLET)
As for TiB, the only thing that is 100% safe is to only restore apps & their data that are NOT pre-installed in whatever ROM you are installing. Note this means not restoring any of the Google gapps as well, as you may have had a different versions of those apps running on your current ROM than on the to-be-installed ROM, whether pre-installed or updated later.
Yeah it's a bit of work restoring apps one by one and re-configuring things. There probably are System apps that can have their data safely restored to the wrong version of the app - but there are absolutely no guarantees that correct operation of the app will follow that.
cheers and good luck
I'm wondering if there is any way to basically copy the entire phone.. os and all... and make a rom out of it? I just thought life would be so much simpler if I could do a fresh install of 4.4.2, root, recovery, do all the tweaks/settings and removal of bloatware I don't like and then install all my standard apps *minus games of course* and make it into a rom, I could save myself tons of time by not having to keep rinsing and repeating this long procedure whenever I run into major issues.
If you make a proper backup...then have to restore it, it will restore exactly how you had it at the moment you made the backup.
So....you can
If you say "Please" be sure and hit "Thanks"!!!

I used CWM and made a nandroid but it must not back "everything" up, because I had some issues after replacing numerous files and when I ran restore and it rebooted... had window after window popping up telling me "this stopped working and that stopped working"... nonstop... ended up having to do a complete wipe and reinstall.
Thats why I thought there might be a better method like making a rom as I mentioned in my original post.
Then you made your nandroid incorrectly.
Either you didn't select all the partitions (inclusing media) and the SE context.
OR the recovery you used is the issue.
I've created hundreds, if not thousands of nandroids and flash between ROMs/Builds all the time. [well not lately been working 15+hour days]
Take some time and read through the OPs and follow up discussions for the recoveries and ROMs and you'll find the right combo of recover/ROM.
I always make sure my nandroids restore before moving on to another ROM or build. IF they don't then I can rebuild current ROM (since I know exactly what is involved), try another recovery and see if it restores after complete double/triple wipe and install of another ROM base. If that works I'll note the recovery/ROM combo and then move on.
Just my two cents.
