Hey guys,
This puzzle is really stumping me:
- I have the TF101 running ICS.
- I can't figure out how to trigger the task switcher from the keyboard
- The lack of a keyboard function analogous to ALT-TAB makes the use of the TF101 as "laptop replacement" tough
I've tried looking in the settings for this ROM, and nothing appears to address this. I've also tried logical combination of the Fn, Home, Search, and Menu keys, as well as Shift, and Ctrl. Nothing seems to trigger the Task Switcher (probably because this tablet may not have shipped with ICS?)
Any thoughts?
If this ability isn't built-in somewhere, would there be a way to map a keyboard key to this function manually?
(I don't have the skills to delve into source code, or modify ROMs, or anything like that)
task switcher on the transformer is just alt-tab. it brings up the old gingerbread task switcher instead of the honeycomb/ics one but it still works
Also longpress on "Home" launches it
On JB and RaymanFx B4
Hey,
Thanks for the tip re: Alt-Tab. While it doesn't bring up the ICS task switcher, it's still better than nothing . Though the fact that ALT is on the right side of the keyboard only, will take some getting used to.
I'd still love to find a way to get the ICS switcher up, via the keyboard. Long press of HOME doesn't do anything for me
Cheers

i search forthis long time so let me know if there are some application that allows what i want. I know it can be only for root users.
I have an idea to application that allow user change function hardware keys.My idea is change search button to bring up app switcher.Be couse i really never used that button. I know many situation when we hold "HOME" to bring it up but it take me back to home+show preview screens +bring up app switcher (i know previews can be turned off by launcher but i want previews, they are cool). You dont need hold anything. It will be much faster switching betwean applications.
So you push menu to back to menu or bring up previews
and push search button to bring application switcher.
it is good idea?
sorry for bad english.
I was ready to start a thread with a similar recquest, so I do it here.
I've using a lot an application on my previous wm devices, called AE Button plus (http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php).
With this you could map any of hardware buttons of the device. And you could assign 4 actions to any button(click, doulbe click, triple click and click&hold) and it had many of system functions(reboot, bluetooth, wifi, gps on/off....).
On android I haven't seen any similar app(except button shortcut, which is very limited)
Is possible to have such an app on android? I hope that a developer start a project for a similar program. I found this app very useful.
I'm looking for a task switcher that shows all running apps (and not like the default android one which only shows the 6 most recent). The ones I've come across seem to require a long press of the search button to activate, but the SGS lacks a dedicated search button.
Does anyone know of one that uses another shortcut, long press home / double tap home for example?
This is exactly what I'm looking for, but I've been searching through in market place for something that let's me assign program to hardware key action. No luck so far. Any experienced folks know if it's possible to customize the phone this way?
I have used taskswitcher and prehome..both function pretty much the same way...tap home button once shows all running apps and hitting it once more from the app switch screen takes you to the home screen. I kinda prefer prehome as it seems to use less memory but then again theres really not much of a difference imo..hope this helped..

Great recommendation. Will try it out. Thank you very much for sharing is.
Lovely. Pressing home will show the truly still running task instead of recently used ones. It's lets you kill or switch to any active program.
So, long press home to show last 6 most recently used programs
single press home will invoke the task manager, allowing killing and switching.
Double press home to really go to home.
Sounds like what I want. Seems a little buggy, but I'm happy with it at least for now.
I know the G2 has the three hardware keyboard shortcuts, I was wondering if theres any way to make one of the(specifically the left one) another 'alt' button... seems like they put the alt button in a weird spot(to me at least, compared to older phones), and the shortcut button is always getting pressed instead of the alt button.
I looked through the menus to set the shortcut, but no 'alt' button there.. Any help would be appreciated.
Running eViL's MT4G rom, if that matters.
I don't think so. I would love to have this as well, though.
I don't like how there are configurable keys, but they can only be configured to launch apps. I would rather them be the [, ], or < key because I use those in some of my account passwords.
There is a way to remap the keyboard, so I would think would be a rather simple remap. You'll need to be rooted and all that. Check on the development subforum, it's there somewhere.
Hi,
I have found few topics about key mapping but I still don't know whether it is already possible to map any hardware button to a MENU (?) so it triggers the non-stock launcher. I mean, do I still need button savior to switch to the launcher?
I would like to root my nook but don't want to use TouchNooter. (I think it breaks some of the stock rom functions and it also brings apps I do not want).
I would prefer just the root with adb over usb (should be possible with a custom ramdisk attached in one thread here), 3rd party apps installation enabled (update sqlite db), and an external laucher of course. I think I can live without the market.
It would be great to have "small" (as less apps as possible) customized nook rom without "phone" related apps.
You can remap the buttons, and it's pretty easy. system/usr/keylayout, I believe, and then the file without the omap prefix. The last four lives are the side buttons. However, I find it quite handy to use the new n-button mod/app by XorZone -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289894
That mod/app changes the n-button to a home when pressed (returns to launcher), and a recent app pop-up when held for a few seconds. Very handy, especially if you don't intend to use the nook's onboard reader. (I'm using Aldiko instead, since the default reader doesn't refresh often enough to prevent ghosting...)
Remap the other keys to VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN (BACK and MENU can be handy too) if you don't plan on using the stock reader and you can then use your hardware buttons in Aldiko, the Kindle app, etc.
Personally, my left buttons are MENU and BACK, and my right buttons are VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN, and I don't use the stock B&N library/reader at all.
If you plan on using the stock reader, be sure to keep atleast one back and forward button at the default mapping...
On the topic of touchnooter, everything it comes with can be uninstalled when it's not needed. there really isn't much clutter there to begin with... As I recall, it may or may not break the B&N shop but I'm unsure if that problem still persists or what. Otherwise, it doesn't break anything.
On my Evo LTE running CM10 the recent apps button on short press opens settings and long press opens recent apps. I like this function vs having to have a shortcut on the desktop or getting to it from notifications. On most newer phones/tablets running ICS/JB there are mods that remap this function but I've not seen this anywhere for the Nexus. I"m running stock but rooted and would prefer to stay that way if i can. Does anyone either know how to do it or if there's a mod floating around that i was unable to find using "search"?
I would also love to customize what app is opened when sliding up from the soft keys, if that's related.

No that's not exactly what i'm talking about but i would like to do that as well. If i understand correctly if you hold any of the software key/button (IE back, home, or recent apps) and slide your finger up there is a dotted circle with google search button at the top. If i could place the settings app there that would get me by. As for now when i hit the recent apps button i would prefer that to be the settings button or being able to long press the button to open settings. I think what i want is a limitation of the launcher but who knows. Anyone who does have any idea how to do this please let me know. I did attempt to edit the keys file in system/usr/keylayout by trying to add an extra key for settings but it didn't work.
