You don't understand!
Android is free and open source, therefore easy to port from one device to another. That's not what they are doing!
The drivers which control most devices are closed source. They are reverse engineering the drivers so that poeple can have a totally free system, devoid of binary blobs.
But then you probably haven't read this, or understood it, either!

It ain't cheap! Anywhere between 350 - 700 US Dollars for the phone.
1Ghz cpu - 512 MB Ram and all you'd expect from a decent smartphone though.
You can buy the parts and assemble yourself though.
A developers dream phone! The Neo Freerunner.

You will find most any paid market app for free. Need I say any more
Edit: I by no means promote piracy. Usually what I will do is get on there, download an app, and try it out. If I like it, I will uninstall and buy from the market (i.e. I did this with Rom Manager, Root Explorer, etc.). If I don't like it, I will just uninstall and not use anymore. This is my way of showing love to the developers who have worked so hard to make my phone better

I also agree. It is out of developers hearts to offer free versions that have nearly all of the functionality of the full version and only ask for donations.
I paid for Rom Manager, because I thought his time and effort was well worth the $5 donation. Then you have some that would rather cut the developer out of the equation.

Still doesn't matter if you do Not everyone will be as nice as you. Cutting the dev completely out of the picture is wrong and shouldn't be done. Anyways the market has a 48 hour return policy on all purchases.

Just don't understand the logic I guess. Since you front the money for the app. You dont like it, you get your money back. Instead of supporting some clowns that have made them free for download. Lol
The market refund policy enables the same protection described.

Right here. Seriously. Here download the HTC source, get an ARM compiler. Grab a commit from a froyo commit. Cross your fingers and hope it compiles... If it doesn't, troubleshoot c code and get it to work. If there is a missing function then write it for GB. Then after it finally get it to compile, the slightest bug in sbc can break your phone.
By all means, I wish you the best of luck.

You've got working camera drivers for both 3.1 and 3.2 and we can't get someone to engineer a working ics kernel with cameras?
Would someone like to school me on what the big roadblock is here if you already have examples to work with? I don't have a problem donating some cash up front if dev time/interest is what's holding us back here

From what I understand its drivers for ICS coming from source. When Samsung releases ICS, camera can be fixed in AOSP.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
My understanding is that its not worth spending the time to engineer or reverse engineer the driver. Especially since it will be released by Samsung in the not to distant future. Just be patient or use a Honeycomb based ROM.

Put up a bounty if you're interested; state how much you're willing to donate, and put it in escrow. It can be done, and maybe a dev will take you up on it. That said, with ICS on the horizon any dev will be wary of putting in time if Samsung drops the code before they get the bounty. I agree with the previous person -- suck it up and wait. Use HC if you need the camera.
I was wondering this too... cameras work on a HTC evolution and Samsung captivate...no ics for those in official releases...
